Wellness Events

Yoga Try this beginner’s yoga class to gain strength, balance and flexibility. Modifications can be made to accommodate you at any level. Type 2 Diabetes BASICS Join us for Type 2 Diabetes BASICS, informative and motivating classes for anyone with diabetes or prediabetes who would like to self-manage their disease better. Questions? Contact Diabetes Coordinator Teri Reitz, RN, at 952-233-4209. Zaniyan: Crock Pot Monday Come assemble a nutritious meal for your family. Registration fee is $15. Please RSVP by the Wednesday prior to the Monday event or by the Friday prior to the Wednesday event to Chef Jason at: jason.champagne@shakopeedakota.org. Fitness Boot Camp No two classes the same! A mix of cardio/resistance intervals using various equipment with a stretching/ yoga finale. All fitness levels invited; beginners welcome! Questions? Diabetes Luncheon: The DASH Difference High blood pressure affects 50 million Americans, and is one of the leading causes of heart disease and stroke. Learn more on how you can lower your blood pressure with a DASH Diet from registered dietician DeeDee Francis.

Health in a Hurry Fitness Now you can squeeze in a workout in 15 minutes or less! Increase muscle strength, endurance, flexibility, and coordination. Participants move from one station to another at a steady pace. Each station will include both aerobic exercise and strength training. DSF membership is not required to attend. This FREE class is located in training rooms 4 & 5, every Tuesday and Thursday, noon -12:30pm. Come for 10 minutes or stay for 30. Sign up through Cornerstone or just show up. Fitbit Walk Maximize your Fitbit steps with the wellness coordinators! This 30-minute session will be a walking class with fitness tips. Questions? Contact the SMSC wellness coordinators at 952-233-2965. Zumba This Latin-inspired dance class combines fast and slow rhythms to work the entire body. Contact the Dakotah! Women should get a baseline screening done between 35-40 years of age. The SMSC Mobile Unit will be parked close by, offering mammograms for your convenience. Laugh out loud, sample a recipe, or talk with one of our wellness staff. Fitbits will be available. Register, pick up your Fitbit, or get your PTW 2.0 questions answered.
