Ram dedicates 30-years of service

Other long-serving staff also recognised for their contribution Motibhai Group sales manager Shiri Ram has vivid memories of his humble beginning in the company as a merchandiser 30-years-ago. “Three decades have gone by but it all seems like I just started yesterday,” Mr Ram said during a special award ceremony to recognise long-serving Suva based staff members of the company. “Just in eight months I was promoted from merchandiser to sales support officer and after further four months, I was given a bigger responsibility to look after the van sales section for the entire Suva area,” Mr Ram added. He said the van sales experience gave him the opportunity to deal with customers face-to-face and this was something very new for him. “I still remember my first day out in the field for van sales. I had managed to sell some Uni-ball pens and Canon calculators - the excitement and motivation I had gained that day was beyond comparison. “Challenges and obstacles were there, it’s all about how you as an individual overcome challenging situations and I believe the key factors for this is honesty, dedication and being humble.” Mr Ram said after sometime, he was promoted as a key accounts sales rep handling some very renowned brands. As years passed, Mr Ram was promoted as a sales manager, a title he holds to date. “Whatever I have achieved would not have been possible without my faith in the Almighty Lord as He is the reason behind my success and gave me encouragement to keep doing good. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the management and my family for being ever supportive in my journey so far.”

Group partners with key suppliers to assist staff members during crisis As the negative effects of COVID-19 continues to affect millions of people across the globe, the people of Fiji definitely have their share of the burden and challenges as well. While quick action from the various arms of the Fijian government has been successful in effectively containing the contagion from further spreading, thousands of workers have been affected through either reduced hours of work or loss of jobs in all sectors. Given the hardship faced by 1,400 employees of Motibhai Group, the company has partnered with some of its key suppliers to bring some relief to staff members through a hamper pack of consumer goods worth around $150 each. “After trying to figure out how we can provide additional assistance to our staff members during these trying times, we decided to approach our suppliers by seeking their support in making these special hamper packs,” Motibhai Group marketing manager Abraham Gomes said. “We wish to sincerely thank all our principal suppliers who came onboard with us to assist our staff members.” Suppliers who joined hands with Motibhai Group for this initiative are as follows:q q q q q

Three winners for trivia competition

A PROMOTION ran by The Fiji Times in April this year finally concluded with three winners announced for the competition. “The Uni-ball Trivia” sponsored by Motibhai Group successfully ended with the major prize being won by Catherine Singh of Lautoka while the second prize winners were Joseva Velavela of Cunningham and Jyoti Kiran of Kinoya. The Fiji Times marketing manager Annie Robinson said the promotion was held for the month of April during which readers were asked daily trivia questions. Ms Kiran said her husband had interest in participating in such competitions and he had placed entries with her name on it. “I won a Sony bluetooth speaker and I am quite happy with the prize,” she said. Mr Velavela said he was planning to buy one bluetooth speaker and it saved him the hassle after he found out he had won one. “I dropped in eight entries on the closing day and I think it was my luck that I won,” he said.

Government calls for greater awareness on menstrual hygiene The challenge posed by menstrual hygiene management for girls and women in general is real says minister for women, children and poverty alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa. “The challenge is even greater for women and girls in rural settings or in areas where clean water and toilet facilities are inadequate,” the minister said in statement to mark the Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 28. She said girls' and women's choices of menstrual hygiene materials are often limited by the costs, availability and social norms. “In Fiji, the challenge is further compounded by cultural beliefs of certain communities where it is a taboo to discuss menstruation openly. As long as such beliefs persist, the girl
