Keep on loving each other as broth ers and sisters. Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it! Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies. Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adul tery.

Message by Dr. Philp McVay Worship Led by Chancel Choir

Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you.     I will never abandon you.” So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper,     so I will have no fear.     What can mere people do to me?” Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Updates Around Shalimar” 06Philip’s Focus

Our special offering for our Ukraine family continues throughout the month of August. As of now, we have received over $11,000. Thanks for your generosity! Our goal is to raise $45,000 for the support needed this year. In addition to our financial support, our congregation has been “More

August is evolving as a month of special meetings and events. In this Beacon article, I want to communicate some of the dedicated events that have happened and are going to happen. These opportunities are varied but all important. We have a called Charge Conference scheduled for August 28, 12:30pm in the Sanctuary. The sole purpose of this meeting is related to the proposed selling of the parsonage at 12 Meigs Drive. All mem bers of the Church Council are the voting members of the Charge Conference. The Trustees, Finance Committee, and Church Council have all approved the sale. The Charge Conference is the final official approval needed to sell 12 Meigs. All are welcome to attend the Charge Confer ence. Our “Open House” was a big success last Sunday Night! We had a great turnout at our Open House. Our congregation heard of children, youth, and adult opportunities from some of our ministries. One of the biggest highlights was the presence of new people in our church. There were even some new volunteers secured. Overall, it was a fantastic way to kick off the Fall schedule. A special thanks to our Rev. Matt Langford, our staff, and laity for what might have been our best open house ever!

Emmaus is back! Last weekend numerous lay persons from our congregation volunteered to assist the Men’s Walk to Emmaus at Blue Lake. We also had two pilgrims from our congregation participate in the 72-hour crash course in Christianity. We are so excited Emmaus is back! There are upcoming walks scheduled. If you would like to know more about attending the Walk to Emmaus, please contact our church office. We will be happy to share more information on how you can attend.

generous to fully furnish the home. Alice Biggar reports the rental house has been completely furnished and transformed into a beautiful home through the generosity of our congregation. We had a prayer of conse cration Tuesday to prepare the home for the Tysiachnyi family. Also, as we gathered for prayer, we heard the beautiful Kingdom stories emerg ing and even multiplying of how God is providing for this family! What an exciting ministry of love is growing out of our church. In following the direction of the Church Council, a new task force has been formed. The purpose of this task force is to gather information and better understand current denominational matters. The goal of this team is to provide accurate information for our congregation. We had our first meeting last Monday. The team includes our four lay delegates to Annual Conference Mark Bethea, Dave Biggar, Jim Brantley, and Pat Gross. This team also in cludes Kyle Wilson (Lay Leader), Renata Steiner (facilitator), and our pastors. You can share questions and concerns with any of the people on this new team. Also, for those that want to know more about what is going on in our de nomination… Bishop David Graves is having a meeting for laity August 21, 4PM at Pensacola First United Methodist Church. All laity are invit ed to hear directly from the Bishop. No reservation is required. This Sunday, we will be preaching on hospitality through the teaching of Hebrews 13. This teaching will focus on entertaining angels unaware and “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Hope to see you in worship for what should be a great Sunday. . Shalom, Philip

13forBlessingsChildren NEW HOURS STARTING THIS WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 10TH Blessings for Children hours will be M/W/F from 10am-2pm. If you have been looking for a place to volunteer your time, look no further! Blessings for Children are in need of volunteers with the busy months coming around the corner! If you are interested or have any questions about volunteering please contact our new Blessings for Children Director, Rendi Bonner (Information Below). rendibonner@yahoo.com (850) 676-9020 He makes everything beautiful in His time. -Ecclesiastes 3:11

For all of you, remember what Dr. Suess said: “The more you read, the more you know. The more you know, the smarter you grow. The smarter you grow, the stronger your voice, when speaking your mind or making your choice.”

Our SUMC Library has so much to be thankful for and much to celebrate with you! For starters, we celebrate our faithful volunteers who keep things up to date and rolling along, people who donate books for our shelves and for sharing, and those who con tinue to check out our books. Your support of our library in many ways continue to bless and encourage us!

Please know that your church library is a delightful place on our campus, offering books, DVD’s, and a peaceful space to meet or sit for a while! It’s a cool and cozy place to bring your kids to encourage them to read while they snuggle up with a good book in our bean bags.

In addition to having fun and fellowship at Joyful Place, we like to fill our time with meaningful activities. In this picture a few of our friends and volunteers are portioning food items out for The Bread House. This functional and repetitive task gives us purpose and makes our friends feel important and valuable. We also enjoy writing cards to community members to recognize accomplishments and awards.

The recent Open House was a great opportunity for everyone to learn more about Joyful Place. We had interest from several people to volunteer with us, and we are so happy! Even with this, we are still needing to increase our volunteer pool. The number of friends at tending daily is increasing so therefore, we have a greater need for volunteers. This ministry is so needed in this community and now that the community is learning about us, our numbers will continue to grow. Will you help us grow and reach others? Please contact Leigh with any questions.

Are your thoughts holding you captive? I’ll never be good enough. Other people have better lives than I do. God couldn’t really love me.

Jennie Allen knows what it’s like to swirl in a spiral of destructive thoughts, but she also knows we don’t have to stay stuck in toxic thinking patterns.

God of Deliverance Bible study is a study on Exodus 1-18 which explores the exodus of the Israelites--the Hebrew people being deliv ered from bondage to freedom so they could worship the one true God.
