MISSIONS MOMENT - DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know the Missions and Outreach Committee needs your help? We are serving an average of 150-175 families a week in need of food from the Bread House. With the cost of food rising, we desperately need peanut butter, jelly, cereal, and fresh fruit, or potatoes and onions. We have made adjustments to our Menu to try to continue to help our customers who struggle with food insecurity.
If you aren’t able to shop, you may list “Bread House” in the Memo of your check to provide funds for us to shop on your behalf to support this mission. Thanks to our Congregation and friends of the Church at Shalimar for your continued support of this critical outreach to our community!
A new Sunday School Class/Small Group started last Sunday during the 11:00 hour for those who want to attend the new 9:30 worship service. The class will be held in FLC room 207.
The initial study will be on the book “The Screwtape Letters” by C.S. Lewis. We will listen to a theatre presentation of each letter and then discuss questions about that letter.
C.S. Lewis was an ardent atheist in his younger years. He had an inspiring journey to his faith and became a world-reknown Christian writer and scholar, best known for his works of fiction, including “The Chronicles of Narnia” series, and Christian apologetics.
If you are not familiar with The Screwtape Letters; here is a brief summary: In The Screwtape Letters, Lewis imagines a series of lessons on the importance of taking a deliberate role in Christian faith by portraying a typical human life, with all its temptations and failings, seen from devils' viewpoints. Screwtape holds an administrative post in the bureaucracy ("Lowerarchy") of Hell. Until the book's final pages, Screwtape acts as a mentor to his nephew Wormwood, an inexperienced and incompetent tempter.
In the 31 letters which compose the book, Screwtape gives Wormwood detailed advice on various methods of undermining God's words and of promoting abandonment of God in "the Patient" (whom Wormwood is tempting), interspersed with observations on human nature and the Bible. In Screwtape's advice, selfish gain and power are seen as the only good, and neither demon can comprehend God's love for man or acknowledge human virtue.
If you can’t attend the 11:00 session, note that the Christian Friends Class will also be doing the same study during the 9:30 hour in the Chapel/Conference Room.
We hope you will join us! For questions, contact Joe Kocanowski, 850-499-6747.
Susan McLain, a former Children’s Director at Shalimar, has written and published a children’s book. The Preschool has invited her to come read and sign books on Friday, November 1 at 11:45am in the Family Life Center.
Books will be on sale and there will be free bookmarks and treat bags for the children. All are welcome to attend!

31 Days of Praying for Your Pastor
Day 24: Pray God will give your pastors clear, biblical vision of what your church can be and should be doing for His glory. Pray they will communicate that vision clearly and confidently to the church. (Prov. 29:18; Mal. 3:11; John 15:16, 17:17; 2 Tim. 3:5)
Day 25: Pray your pastors will seek God for personal revival, and for revival in your church and community. (2 Chron. 7:14; Ps. 69:32)
Day 26: Pray your pastors will think biblically, with the mind of Christ.
Day 27: Pray they will earnestly seek God’s will and be committed to instant and complete obedience—ready for God to work powerfully in and through their ministry. (2 Cor. 10:3-5; Luke 9:23, 24)
Day 28: Pray they will strive for personal excellence and will believe God for all He wants to do in the congregation and pastor’s life. (Col. 3:23, 24; 2 Pet. 1:3)
Day 29: Pray your pastors will be people of faith and passionate for the love of God, not given to worry, fear, or an uptight or anxious spirit. (Prov. 3:5, 6; 1 John 4:18)
Day 30: Ask God to provide for the financial needs of your pastors and families. Pray they will be a wise steward of their finances as well as the finances of the church. (Ps. 37:25; Phil. 4:19; 1 Tim. 6:11; Heb. 13:50
