Pastor Alan is excited to share that one of our own, the Reverend Michelle Olson Johnson, will be sharing God’s Word at The Church at Shalimar next Sunday, September 1st in both the 8:00 Upward service and the Traditions service at 11:00! Rev. Johnson is Marv Olson’s daughter and serves as Executive Pastor at Skidaway Island Methodist Church in Georgia. Growing up in our church, she has served many years in ministry and recently was ordained as an elder in the Global Methodist Church.
KINDERGARTEN SUNDAY | September 8 | 11:00am | Sanctuary
Scripture is one of the most important ways we learn about God and His love for us. The Church at Shalimar will present a story book Bible to each of our kindergartners to mark the beginning of their faith journey.
KINDERGARTEN BIBLE CHALLENGE | September 9 – October 14 | Worship at Home Kindergartners and their families are invited to learn about God’s love by following a Bible reaching challenge together.
Join us Friday, September 6, at 7 pm, at Choctaw High School for some football! We are once again sponsoring the Style marchers, and we will be “taking over” this night. Our name/logo will be prominently displayed on the drum major stand, and we will be announced during the 1st quarter and after their halftime performance. Ben Savage will also be guest conducting the band during the 3rd quarter. Come help us fill the stands so our presence is felt as we seek to fulfill our mission of being a beacon of hope, love, and support for everyone.
Flower arrangements and roses can be given to the glory of God and displayed each week in the Sanctuary worship services. Reservations for altar flowers can be made using the reservation book in the Sanctuary Narthex or by calling the Church Office at (850) 651–0721
This weeks arrangements are from Jenny Shim “In loving memory of Don Shum, from the Shim Family.”
Now that the new school year has started, you may notice our Wednesday night Fellowship Dinner is a little more populated! That’s because this past week, our Student Ministry started their small groups again, and our Kids Club resumed their Wednesday Programming. Praise God for what He has done, and what He will continue to do through these ministries this semester. Thank you for your giving, support, and prayer in these areas as it helps to provide the many different resources that are needed to make these Bible studies happen.
This week, after evaluating multiple proposals, Trustees signed a contract to replace the SUMC signs that were taken down a few weeks ago. New signs should be in place in about two weeks. Replacing these signs is not in the 2024 budget, therefore we seeking individuals who would like support this project by making a donation in excess of their regular giving. Total cost of the signs is about $7000.
To make a donation, contact the church office.
The month of July has been a whirlwind as we worked to transition from our home in Fort Walton Beach to our temporary home in Wetumpka, just north of Montgomery. Also, we’ve been working to wrap up ministry at Shalimar while beginning everything with the folks at Wesley Church. I say all this to apologize for the lateness of this word to you!!
Rhonda and I are so grateful and thankful for each of you as we shared ministry together for 12 years. Our last Sunday with you on June 30 was absolutely wonderful and we thank you from the depths of our hearts for your kindness, encouragement, and generosity. Our whole family was overwhelmed with the food, decorations, words, flash-mob, gifts, and the love that was shown to us. We have never felt so loved and appreciated. Thank you to each of you for everything you did for us.
Our special thanks go to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee, the Youth Choir, the Chancel Choir, Chef Heyward, Ben Savage, Dave and Alice Biggar, and Charlie and Kathy Curry. We will remember this day with fondness for a very, very long time!!
I also want to thank my pastoral ministry partner, Rev. Dr. Alan McBride. Alan’s sending and words of encouragement at the end of both patriotic celebrations were touching, encouraging, and challenging. Alan has been and continues to be a great man of God who seeks to lead God’s people with love and conviction while leading with and proclaiming the strong Word of God.
Our prayers continue for each of you as you move into the future as God leads and guides. I know that God has great plans for The Church at Shalimar and that you will continue to worship our God in spirit and in truth. We thank our God for every remembrance of you and will continually say of our time together…
Praise God From Whom All Blessing Flow!
Brad and Rhonda Bradford
