O ur Visio n Christ-centered, multigenerational, family and community relevant ministries through worship, discipleship, and mission.

O ur Missi on REA C H, T EA C H, and SEN D We REACH out to our congregation, community, and the world to TEACH the word of God as provided in the Holy Scripture, and SEND our members and missionaries to be witnesses to God’s grace and His promise of eternal life to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Wors hi p Services Traditions At 8:00 and 11:00am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00am service. Conn ect At 9:30am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary we engage in a four-fold service of gathering praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns. Fre edom At 11:07am Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a non-traditional atmosphere. We come to God as we are to experience the freedom of not having to stay that way.

Philip’s Focus The Need of the Giver to Give The first focus of giving is God! The second focus is the need of the giver to give for spiritual growth. Growth in giving is not related to a church budget but rather discipleship growth in our hearts. Giving is a response to TRUSTING GOD’S GOODNESS. Our motive in giving should not be meeting a budget but rather to give to God which we do through the church! As we prepare our 2020 commitments, how do we know if we are being faithful to the Lord? The best place to determine how much to give is to follow the guidance of the Bible. Below is a variety of bible teachings about giving, generosity, the state of our hearts, and obedience to God.

 We cannot out give God. Everything we have already belongs to Him. The Psalmist says “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof” (Psalm 24:1). Think how absurd it would be to offer God what already belongs to Him. Yet God chooses to make us stewards of all in the world.  A tithe (10 percent of our income) is the most measurable standard of giving in the Bible. The tithe honors God above all with the first ten percent of what we have. Most tithers speak of tithing as a blessing that impacts every area of life positively as well as a needed spiritual discipline. “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room for it” (Malachi 3:10; NIV). If you have never tithed, I invite you to test it out for the first 90 days of 2020.  The willingness to make sacrifices helps us grow. When we sacrifice, we are able to worship more fully. King David said “I will not sacrifice that to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing” (2 Samuel 24:24).  The amount is not as important as the heart. If we have very little, we can still be commended by God. The widow who gave the mite was commended by Jesus for she gave all she had as condescending onlookers gave out of their abundance. Jesus also said “where your treasure is there is your heart also” (Matthew 6:21). Our heart is the focus when we give treasures in Heaven.  A spirit of generosity is also commended in the Scripture as “whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously” (2 Corinthians 9:6).  God loves a cheerful giver and joy is the right spirit in which to give. “Each of you should give what you have decided to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7). continued

These Biblical principles are solid and offer a great foundation for our growth in giving to the Lord. I would invite us all to take the next step in growth by giving to God through the church. If you are going through financial hardship, please do not let that prevent you from participating in the church. There are other ways to give until you can get to a financially better place. Please call on us to help. Thank you again for giving to the Lord! Shalom, Philip

Tuesday, 10 December – 11:15. At our December meeting, we will be treated with a Christmas concert by our pre-school kids. To accommodate their school schedule, we will begin at 11:15. We will also have Jerry Hollis lead us in singing some Christmas carols. Lunch will be provided by Chef Heyward, cost $7. Tuesday, 17 December – 9:45. Our December trip will be to the Pensacola State College Planetarium where we will see a show called “Season of Light.” The show “traces the history and development of many of the world’s most endearing holiday customs, all of which involve lighting up the winter season.” We will also learn about the winter constellations. This show will be both entertaining and educational, so you won’t want to miss it. Cost is $6.00 (exact change please). The big bus will leave promptly at 9:45 from the front of the FLC. Seating is limited to the first 33 people that sign up with the church office. Following the show, we will eat lunch at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse at the Cordova Mall. Tuesday, 14 January 2020 - 11:15. For the first meeting of the new year, we will have a presentation by Ed Crosby who will talk about bees; their life cycle and how they produce honey. Lunch will be provided by Chef Heyward, cost $7. Monday, 20 January 2020. Our planned trip to visit the Montgomery Hyundai Motor Manufacturing plant is cancelled. We just found out the plant will be closed on that day. We will look for an alternative location out of the local area since we have the buses for the whole day. Suggestions are welcome. Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow As we move at an ever quickening pace toward January 2020, which will mark Blessings For Children’s one year anniversary, please allow us to lift up our ministry’s mission statement: meet the needs of children in our community while encouraging and developing Christ-centered and church-involved relationships with their families. Over a year ago, as we collected clothing, personal care items, and school supplies to share with children in need, formulated processes and procedures for sharing, and recruited and trained volunteers, we weren’t sure what it would look or feel like to actually carry out the mission. The initial brochure introducing our ministry to our church family stated “we believe that the love of God will go out with each encounter we have with these families” and that statement has absolutely proved to be true. Let me share from all of us that most blessedly the love and hope of God has come into the #10 2nd Street home with each family that has entered our doors. Families have come to us with their needs, sharing their hopes and prayers, joys and sorrows, and their celebrations. We have seen the hardest things that life can bring; the death of a child, a parent going to jail, no place to live, and financial distress. We’ve also been there for the joy such as good grades in school, a new job, a place to live, and the birth of new children. In short, we have been in Christ-centered relationships with them. They come to us needing things for their children, but so often, they’ve returned excited to bring things that can be shared with others (outgrown clothing, toys, baby items). God’s blessings are flowing in and out of the #10 house and we give Him the praise and glory for the opportunity to be a part of His ministry. So many of you have already joined us over this past year with the support of your prayers, donations, financial gifts, and offers to volunteer. If you would like to support Blessings for Children in the coming months, please consider any of the following:

 Pray for this ministry and all who participate  Volunteer once a month (no computers, just helping people!)  3rd Sunday of each month, donate any of the items we distribute. Diapers, wipes, socks, underwear, toothpaste, toilet paper are always needed and a complete list of items we distribute can be found on our webpage (below). Bins are located in the sanctuary narthex or the Family Life Center lobby. Donations can also be brought to the #10 2nd St. house on Wednesday afternoons between 11:30 - 3:30 pm  Consider a financial contribution designated for Blessings for Children. We are so grateful to our church family and our Blessings for Children families. You are a blessing to this ministry and all who are involved!
