O ur Visio n Christ-centered, multigenerational, family and community relevant ministries through worship, discipleship, and mission.
O ur Missi on REAC H, T EAC H, and SEND We REACH out to our congregation, community, and the world to TEACH the word of God as provided in the Holy Scripture, and SEND our members and missionaries to be witnesses to God’s grace and His promise of eternal life to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Wors hi p S ervices T rad itions At 8:00am and 11:00 Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00am service. Conn ect At 9:30am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we engage in a four-fold service of gathering praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns. Fre ed om At 11:07am Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym, we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a nontraditional atmosphere. We come to God as we are to experience the freedom of not having to stay that way.

Philip’s Focus Time to Nominate this Year’s Hospitality Award Winner Last year, we created the first-ever hospitality award and presented it to David Dale. The award also took on the name of David Dale because he exhibited extraordinary gifts of hospitality. There is a plague in the Family Life Center lobby that displays this annual award. We have now reached a time to consider who should be presented this award in 2021.
We need your help in determining who should be considered for this award. Who in our church always makes it a point to welcome people? What persons offer extraordinary acts of hospitality? Does someone always make it a point to greet newcomers? Who meets no stranger and makes new friends fast? These are the kind of traits we are looking for from recipients of this award. In preparation for this year’s winner, you are invited to submit nominees between now through April 5, 2021. You can find a nomination form at shalimar-umc.org/david-dale-hospitality-award. You can submit the form online, print and return it to the church office, or call the church office. Please feel free to nominate anyone you think should be considered for this year. Include a sentence or two of why he/she should be considered for this award. All persons nominated will be considered, and our Lead Team will make the final selection. Once a person is identified, the Church Council will formally approve this year’s winner. The winner and presentation of the award will be planned for June 6, 2021, during worship. We look forward to receiving your input on all persons nominated. This award was founded to affirm the difference hospitality makes in our church! Also, the award raises the awareness of hospitality throughout our congregation. Would it not be great if everyone could be considered for this award? In the meantime, may all of us put smiles on our faces and offer a warm Shalimar UMC welcome! Thanks for being such a hospitable church! Shalom, Philip Dr. Philip McVay, Lead Pastor philip@shalimar-umc.org

The Easter Lily Project is a way to honor or remember someone and help others at the same time. All proceeds go to support the following missions. 1) Blessings for Children - In its third year of operation as a Shalimar United Methodist Church mission outreach ministry, Blessings for Children seeks to meet the needs of children in our community, ages infant through fifth grade. Our volunteers seek to share God’s love by providing new clothing, personal care items, and school supplies, along with Christian materials to encourage the entire family. 2) Bread House - In April 2020, Shalimar United Methodist Church established a ministry to provide food to the community as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The food pantry evolved to become the Bread House which is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday to provide canned food, produce, milk, eggs, bread, and meat for our neighbors in need. Frozen meat and additional produce became menu options as a result of our collaboration with Destin Harvest. The Bread House seeks to provide for people experiencing food insecurity by allowing them to visit as needed. To date the Bread House has served over 40-tons of food to over 8000 individuals. 3) Methodist Homes of Alabama and Northwest Florida - Methodist Homes of Alabama and Northwest Florida strive to "enrich the lives of older adults and all those who serve them in faith-
based communities” located in both Northwest Florida and Alabama. 4) Safe Connections - The 1996 Shalimar United Methodist Church Missions Committee initiated Safe Connections (formerly called the Judge Ben Gordon Family Visitation Center) to meet a growing community needs for families in crisis. Safe Connections provides a nurturing environment and trained monitors to ensure safety for vulnerable children during supervised visitation time and monitored custody exchanges. Safe Connections also provides parenting classes, resources, and referrals to parents to help them become the safe and stable parents every child deserves. In the face of extraordinarily difficult circumstances presented during 2020, Safe Connections rose to the challenge and accomplished 3,972 individual services with thoughtfully updated safety and health protocols. We will honor your loved ones in the Beacon and on service slides April 4, 2021. You may donate any amount. Send an email to office@shalimar-umc.org, download a form from the website, or drop off a note at the office with the following information: • Your Name • Donation Amount • Message you would like to place in Beacon honoring or remembering a loved one

Week 46: This week we had 26 new families visit us, which represented 92 new individuals touched by the Bread House. That is double the number of new families we had last week. This week was particularly crazy. We gave out more bags for groceries than we took in. Our shelves are bare! But it is all for a good cause. One lady shared that she was on her way to a job interview after having been out of work for some time. Robin (our Friday manager) told her she would pray for her, and the lady said, "Let's pray right now." So, they prayed together. Hopefully, we will find out if she got the job!
Photo 1: We want to welcome our newest volunteer, Gloria (in the green shirt). She still works but has Fridays off and wants to help when she can! Thank you, Gloria!

Blessings for Children
How You Can Help Refer Families The question often comes up about how the families that visit Blessings for Children at the #10 2nd St. house hear about our ministry. We have placed flyers across our community at places that support families and women with children to include: churches, Fresh Start, Sharing and Caring, the WIC office at the Health Dept., Head Start, consignment shops for children’s clothes, Opportunity Place, local schools, and shelters and agencies. We try to ask the families that visit how they heard about Blessings for Children, and more and more, we hear “my neighbor,” “my sister,” or “my friend told me.” And just as we see so often, a personal invitation is the best way to share information! If you work with a family that you know who may be struggling, have a neighbor with needs, your child has a friend doing without, you serve with a young military father or mother who may need a helping hand, or you volunteer at another agency/school and become aware of families with children who are dealing with hardships, please give them a personal invitation to visit our outreach mission on Wednesdays from 123:30pm. If you want Blessings for Children flyers to distribute where you work or serve, please contact Mary Jane Robertson (contact info below). If you know a family but need to arrange for another time or way to help them, please reach out. We thank you for being the eyes of Jesus as we see needs that we can help meet. If you would like to join us in helping our area’s children in need at Blessings for Children, here are some ways to consider:
• Please pray for the ministry and all who participate. Be on the lookout for families you can refer to us for assistance.
• Consider donating items we distribute to the children: diapers (size 4, 5, and 6 in
particular), pull-ups, wipes, school supplies, children sized t-shirts, socks and underwear, children’s toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and toilet paper. A complete list of items we distribute can be found at shalimar-umc.org/blessings -for-children. You can donate items by stopping by the #10 2nd Street house behind the church any Wednesdays from 11:30am - 3:30pm. Children’s bibles, bible stories, and activity books are always a joy to receive and distribute. Spanish language Bibles are always needed!
• A financial gift designated to Blessings for Children through the church allows us to replenish the needed items we distribute weekly.
New volunteers are always welcome, with no regular commitment required. For additional information Mary Jane Robertson Email: mjr53@cox.net Visit: shalimar-umc.org/blessings-for-children Phone: (850) 499-6173 Open every Wednesday 12 - 3:30 pm
