Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00am service. Conn ect At 9:30am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary, we engage in a four-fold service of gathering praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns. Philip’s Focus Current Status and Future Plans of the Church Steak Dinner, My Treat
On August 23rd, I want to invite you to attend a free steak dinner in which I will share the current status of our church and some future discipleship plans. This event will be capped at 100 persons for the dinner portion, but more room will be available if you decide to forego the dinner. The event will begin at 6pm and conclude at 7:30pm. Topics to be covered during the evening. 1. First, I will give information about the current status of our church. What are the facts about subjects such as membership, attendance, giving, and debt? What are our greatest immediate opportunities and challenges? How are our lay leadership groups functioning, and what is their status as we emerge from a Covid Year? 2. Second, I will update the latest news of the scheduled General Conference in 2022. There is a lot of speculation of a division of our
denomination sometime in the future. What impact will this have on the ministry of Shalimar United Methodist Church, if any? Again, I invite you to attend, and I will share the latest information available. 3. Third, my heart has been focused on developing a discipleship plan for 2022. Layers of the early plans for “Say YES in 2022” will be rolled out for the first time. I am very excited to share these plans with you where you will see everyone will have a chance to “put our oar in the water.” There will be a moment of witness of discipleship as well.
Well, there are 100 spots available for a free steak dinner! (Chicken will also be available for the nonbeef people). So please make your reservation by calling the church office at 850-651-0721 or emailing office@shalimar-umc.org as soon as possible. Reservations will remain open until we reach 100. Shalom, Philip Dr. Philip McVay, Lead Pastor philip@shalimar-umc.org

John Wesley the founder of the Methodist movement had 3 general rules that he hoped everyone who called themselves Methodist would strive to achieve. Join us for 7 weeks on Wednesday nights from 6-7pm, as we look at each of these rules and how we can apply these great teachings to our daily lives! It is a great way to learn more about our Wesleyan heritage as well as some practical ways we strive to be more like Christ in the world today! Led by Rev. Matt Langford in room 207.

After a year of Covid 19 lockdowns, who are ready to get active again in the name of the Lord?! Join us for a Run for God study! Even if you've never run before, you can join our class and learn everything from picking out the right shoes to completing your first 5K with us in November at Shalimar UMC! The Run for God Challenge is a guide to running and a 12-week training plan aimed at running a 5K, but with a Christian focus. The 5K Challenge introduces runners to the parallels of faith and fitness. The workout plans, discussion questions, and Bible verses make it both a practical resource and workbook for individuals and groups, especially new runners. Run for God is for all levels of runners, even those who have never run. Learn to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ while understanding the parallels of running and faith. SPLASH OF JOY I STUDY WILL BEGIN AUGUST 18TH
We are so excited to get back to study after a summer break. All of you ladies are invited to come to study the book of Haggai (which is only 38 verses long). This Old Testament study, TAKE COURAGE, by Jennifer Rothschild, will show us how the prophet Haggai reminded the Jewish people that they could take courage and work because God was with them. We will learn together how to walk confidently in our callings, stay motivated when obstacles make us want to quit, and defeat discouragement through God's presence. We meet from 9:30-11:00, and the location on our campus will be announced later. We will provide childcare with reservation only!! Books will be available for purchase on the first day of this 7-week study. Questions may be referred to Sara Michaelson 850-865-3343. Also, Melanie Bandy will be leading a Zoom class from the same book and same dates. If you are interested in doing the study by zoom, please contact Melanie, melaniejbandy@gmail.com, and order your book if you are not able to pick it up at the church.
Jude, Contending for the Faith in Today’s Culture Jackie Hill Perry Have you ever wondered just how much God can pack into one small book of the Bible? Well, join us as we explore the book of Jude, a one-chapter book with only 25 verses. There is a lot that God wants to reveal to us about contending for faith in a world of unbelief while protecting us from falling into the same deceptions that have negatively affected both the church and our culture. In this 7-session study, Jackie Hill Perry will help us learn to recognize God’s Word as an anchor in the ever-shifting cultural climate, to discover your God-given identity in a world of deception, and to see how this small, obscure book in Scripture still speaks to the church today. SPLASH OF JOY II will begin this study on August 25, 2021. We meet every Wednesday from 9:30 – 11:30, participating in both small and large group settings. We will meet in your 207 in the Family Life Center. WE invite you to join us as we study God’s Word and enjoy Christian fellowship with other women of faith. To register or for more information, please contact Cathie Buckman at 850-797-6936 or email at cathiebuckman@gmail.com.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (ESV)

Blessings for Children School Supplies All Year Long! Do you remember how exciting it was when you had brand new, sharpened pencils, all the colors a box of Crayola crayons could offer, fresh pens and a crisp supply of notebook paper to start out the school year? Well, it’s here! August 10th is the first day of school in Okaloosa County and our missions team, with our church family’s generous support, will be helping in-need students with backpacks and school supplies at our annual August 1st Back to School event. We hope to serve 200+ students that day but the school year is almost 10 months long and those school supply needs continue for many children throughout the year. That is why Blessings for Children offers school supplies, along with clothing (t-shirts, underwear, and socks) diapers, and personal care items each Wednesday, all year long. If you find yourself with “extras” of back-to-school items (crayons, scissors (children’s blunt or pointed), glue sticks, erasers, pencils, folders, or highlighters) please consider sharing any of those items with our Blessings for Children ministry. They will be a blessing to our families throughout the school year! If you would like to join us in helping our area’s children in need at Blessings for Children, here are some ways to consider: • Please pray for the ministry and all who participate. Be on the
lookout for families you can refer to us for assistance. • Consider donating items we distribute to the children: diapers (size
4, 5, and 6 in particular), pull-ups, wipes, school supplies, children sized t-shirts, socks and underwear, children’s toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and toilet paper. A complete list of items we distribute can be found at shalimar-umc.org/blessings-forchildren. You can donate items by stopping by the #10 2nd Street house behind the church any Wednesdays from 11:30am - 3:30pm.
•
Children’s bibles, bible stories, and activity books are always a joy to receive and distribute. Spanish language Bibles are always needed!
• A financial gift designated to Blessings for Children through the
church allows us to replenish the needed items we distribute weekly. New volunteers are always welcome, with no regular commitment required.

Hugs from the Library to all who answered our call for donations for the Back-to-School Bash! We trust it helped clear off some shelf space for you but most importantly, on behalf of our church, we were privileged to give many kids lots and lots of books! It was especially heartening to have a box of children’s Bibles to give to appreciative kids! And those kids and their parents were truly grateful. We saw so many polite children! With the “leftovers,” we will continue offering books to kids, and we will begin with our Sunday School classes very soon. Again, your generosity and sharing are making big “differences!” Applause! School is starting; schedules are changing; and new learning opportunities are beginning throughout SUMC. As always, our Library is right in the middle of it offering so much more than you can imagine. Drop-in and sit for a spell. Enjoy knowing that this gem of a space is very much a part of our church!
Prayer Prayer Room The Prayer Room is always available for your use. The code to enter is 1423. After each Sunday morning service, someone will be present to pray with if you would like. They will also respect your wishes to pray alone. Prayer shawls are available for your use. The Prayer Box with cards is available for you to leave a request for either the pastors or Prayer Team. They will pray for you or a situation you would like lifted up. There have been great reports of use for this special place. Prayer Chain You can add someone to the Prayer Chain, share an answered prayer or receive prayer requests and praises through email. We are excited to announce the prayer list can now be accessed on the website or app. Please call the office for the password to this page.
