Our Chancel Choir leads the 8:30am service. Conn ect At 10:15am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary we engage in a four-fold service of gathering praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns. Fre ed om At 11:07am Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a nontraditional atmosphere. We come to God as we are to experience the freedom of not having to stay that way.
Here's what you need to know this week. The Week of Sunday, September 27th
•
Worship Conversation - Philip and Brad are hosting a worship conversation Wed, Sep 30th, regarding our traditional service times here in the Sanctuary. This will be a time for people to ask questions and to hear the future dreams of worship. If you can't come in person, the meeting will also be on Zoom. Please visit the church website, or contact the church office if you need more information.
•
Discipleship - This past week, many of our groups and classes started in-person or online as part of Philip's discipleship focus. If you haven't found a place to grow in your faith yet, it's not too late to make it a priority in your life. It is hard in this COVID season to look toward our future. We invite you to commit, even it's just for the short term, to journey with others closer to God. You can learn more on our website by clicking the group link on the home page.
•
Attendance - We would love for you to register your attendance with us. You can fill out the webform found online shalimar-umc.org/worship-attendance, or you can send an email to Faith@shalimar-umc.org.

These are some of the things I am aware of happening throughout our church this past week. There is more that I missed, and I do not know everyone that meets in one week in our church. As you can see, we are coming back in-person as a church! Even more important is the beautiful spirit in our congregation right now! We are moving forward, renewing, offering new initiatives, and I believe that our church will finish very strong in this most bizarre year! Thanks for all you are doing in being the church at its’ best right now! Shalimar UMC has loyalty and resolve! And best of all, we serve an AWESOME GOD who is reshaping us even as I write this to be a stronger church for HIM! Shalom, Philip

Last week the Bread House had a first. It was the first time it was closed since it’s opening during Covid-19! The picture below shows exactly why. You couldn’t get to it! Hurricane Sally caused the number of bags (both in and out) to be down from the previous weeks. When the Bread House reopened on Friday, we had a lot of visitors. As I talked with someone about our newest Mission initiative, I discovered that many in the congregation had not experienced the joy of feeding the least of these. I gain so much happiness seeing the smiles on people faces as we help alleviate stress with a simple bag of food. So please let members of the congregation know the value this Outreach program is doing for our community.
If you haven’t stopped by the Bread House, please take the time to visit us! If you want to help, please call or show up and learn how to help! As always, thank you for all you do to help “the least of these”! Blessings! Blessings for Children 1 Peter 4:10 "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others...." Through this church family's generosity and support, Blessings for Children strives to meet the many needs of the children in our community by providing limited clothing, diapers, personal care items, and school supplies, along with receiving prayer concerns that our church's prayer team lifts up to our gracious Heavenly Father. As much as we would like to, we cannot meet every need a family may have. However, scripture tells us in 1 Peter, "each of us should use whatever gift we have received to serve others‌." and while this takes place daily throughout this church, I want you to know how those gifts were shared recently at our ministry. Two women came to the Blessings for Children house to see what our ministry could do to help the eight children they were struggling to provide for together in one home. While we were able to assist in the ways we could as a ministry, there were other needs we had no idea how to meet. They had no air conditioning in their home and a broken refrigerator. But because this church family is deep in gifts and skills and willingness to serve and share, we called Pastor Brad to see if there were other ways our church might help. He came right over to the house to talk with the women, heard their situation, and prayed with them while offering to reach out to others in our congregation with specific skills and gifts that might help with their particular needs. And did they ever help! Ed Keller, John Foeller, and William Schenck went right over to their home. They identified and repaired the problems with the air conditioning. Then went above and beyond in providing a replacement refrigerator! The rest of verse 1 Peter 4:10 goes on to say, "....as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms." Blessings for Children is so grateful to all in our church family who are faithful stewards in sharing their gifts, skills, and time to meet needs wherever and whatever they are! If you would like to join with us at Blessings for Children in sharing your gifts, skills, and service, please consider any of the following: Please pray for the ministry and all who participate. Consider donating items we distribute to the children: Diapers and pull-ups, wipes, school supplies, children sized t-shirts, socks, underwear, children's toothbrushes, toothpaste, body wash or soap, and toilet paper. A complete list of items we distribute is on our website at shalimar-umc.org/blessings-
for-children. You can donate items by stopping by the #10 2nd Street house behind the church any Wednesday from 11:30 am - 3:30 pm. Children's bibles and bible stories and activity books are also a joy to receive and distribute! Spanish language Bibles are always needed! A financial gift designated to Blessings for Children allows us to shop for needed items. New volunteers are always welcome! There is no regular commitment required.
