News from the Guild

I am beyond thrilled to be leading the Gadsden Service Guild as President. I have looked up to the Service Guild members ever since I was a little girl, when my mother was in the guild, and I am so proud to be a part of this caring group of women today. This year, we have over 50 women in our organization. Despite the fact that these women have full time jobs, run their own businesses, have children, etc, they find the time in their busy lives to give back to our community through service. You may have heard of some changes going on in the Guild this year, and I would like to take a minute to explain them to you. First of all, we have done away with the "placement" system. After polling the charities that we fund each year, we discovered that they would rather have our support in different ways. To that end, we are now spotlighting one of these charities each month at our meeting, and helping them with a special project. Sometimes we may be hosting a fundraiser, others we may be collecting supplies, and others we may be showing our support by attending an event. Each member is required to participate in 7 out of 9 of these community service activities each year. Another change we are making is the addition of a VIP Preview Party sale the night before our annual rummage sale. After investigating a similar event hosted by numerous Junior Leagues, we decided to try one of our own. We hope you sustainers are as excited about this as we are! We will be serving wine and hors d' oeuvres while you have early access to our fabulous deals. Tickets are $10, and you can contact Kim Hamby, Assistant Ways and Means Chair, to purchase yours. (kimberlyann50@gmail.com). Sale prices are doubled that evening in efforts to jump start our fundraising. We were able to raise over $19,000 last year and we hope to be able to surpass that amount this year with the addition of our new event. Finally, this spring, we are planning a sustainer event, similar to the sustainer luncheon of years past. We intend on having a Sustainer Wine and Cheese on May 6, 2014, at the Country Club. It will be free for you to attend! We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our Guild members, show off what we've been doing this year, and honor you as well! Invitations will be sent, so keep an eye out! If you have any ideas, suggestions, or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me. I want to uphold the legacy of the Gadsden Service Guild as best I can, and the best way to do that is to listen to and learn from those that came before us. Thank you so much for your service and support!

Diamond Sponsor $1000+ Printed name on sponsor poster 5 tickets for preview party 10 tickets for admission The Annual Rummage Sale will be November 2, 2013 at Convention Hall. Not only is the rummage sale our largest fundraiser, it also allowed us to allocate over $19,000 last year to thirteen Etowah County agencies and non-profits. We need your help more than ever this year to be able to reach our fiduciary goal and assist the community by being able to partially fund these programs. Any assistance you can give will be greatly appreciated! If you are able to donate, sponsor or volunteer please contact Brittany Megois at 256. 390.3870.

We have been blessed with the opportunity to have Convention Hall the entire week of the sale. Because we are adding many new categories and will be organizing more in-depth this year, we are only offering one opportunity to drop off your personal rummage. Large items {furniture, appliances} that need to be transported can have a pick up scheduled by contacting Brittany Megois at 256. 390.3870. All additional rummage {clothing, toys, ect.} can be dropped off Sunday, October 27 between the hours of 2-4pm. We will not be able to accept rummage that is dropped off at any other time.

Our new Community Service Opportunities are allowing us to be more available for the Etowah County organizations we serve. Our first project was Sunday, October 6, where we hosted the reception for artist James Meliick at the Mary G. Harden Center for Cultural Arts. Bobby Welch, Exec. Director for the Center for Cultural Arts, attended our first meeting to explain the way funds from Service Guild have been used by the Center.
