We invited key persons from Sabah Tourism Board for a luncheon on 7 December 2022 in Café TATU. The main purpose of this get-together was to continue to grow and build a strong relationship with tourism industry partners.

Back again for the 3rd year, our resort was once again the selected venue for the 27th KK Music & Dance Festival 2022. With the theme – BACH TO THE FUTURE, this year’s festival saw more than 1,000 participants taking part in music and dance competitions, making this their biggest festival to date, since its establishment in 1973!

GINGERBREAD VILLAGE��

Underprivileged children from the Hope Village, Tuaran, and Woori Jib, Putatan, decorated the gingerbread village TAH created on 7 Dec at Café TATU, after their Christmas high tea that we hosted.

Then, on 8 Dec, the children sent the gingerbread village to Sabah Tourism Board, together with Santa, Mr. Yusuf, and TAH's CSR and Sales & Marketing teams.

F&B_CULINARY APPRECIATION DAY Own Our Success :

The F&B and Kitchen teams celebrated the holidays in the ballroom recently. They shared 2022 business results and the outlook of 2023. We cherish our success with everyone.

Urutan Malaysia "Train The Trainer" Course with RRR, by AmSPA

TAH installed solar powered lights at the Tanjung Garden recently. We are using renewable energy by harnessing the sun for our outdoor garden lights.

Advantage of solar lights

* Zero electricity usage

* Fairly cheap technology

* Last for more than 12 hours per full day charge

Disadvantage of solar lights

*Despite the same rating as normal lights, the light output is not as bright.

New Embrace Beneficiary, Kaiduan Papar Primary School

TAH will be adopting Kaiduan Papar Primary School as its latest Embrace beneficiary. This current adoption is in addition to our current Embrace beneficiary, Kitobu Inanam Primary School which we adopted since 2021.

The adoption of Kaiduan Papar Primary School will start next year. The partnership will extend over 5 years where the resort will focus on providing its pupils with a more conducive studying environment by equipping the school with sufficient supplies and equipment for lessons.

• Primary school established in 1957 with most of the school buildings upgraded in 2021.

• Location: 1 hour from the resort by road. Road leading to school is mostly unpaved and can be challenging for a sedan/ small car with inexperienced driver to access. Inaccessible by tour buses.

• School has 127 pupils ages 6-12 years old.

• Each year has one classroom with an average of 15-20 pupils per classroom.

• Pupils come from nearby Kadazandusun villages. They have to walk to school (up to 2 hours each way!) and leave as early as 5am to make it in time for school. The only way to the school is to cross a hanging bridge.

• Has a school village hostel that currently accommodates 40 pupils (20 girls and 20 boys in separate dormitories).

In Sept 2020, there was a very bad flood that affected the school. Flood water reached almost 5 feet high! Many equipment and books were completely destroyed. Luckily it happened during school holidays so it did not affect the children. However, it took the staff of the school weeks to completely clean the school. In 2021, the government replaced damaged school buildings from the flood. However, the school continues to face several problems. Including availability of safe drinking water.

SHANGRI-LA GLOBAL INITIATIVE "SAY NO TO PLASTIC"

Hotel Shop's sustainability initiative – The Hotel Shop has stopped selling mineral water in plastic bottles since 14 December 2022. We have replaced them with boxed mineral water.

SHANGRI-LA CIRCLE ENHANCE MEMBER BENEFITS

SLC enhanced member benefits was launched on 1 December 2022. Only Jade, Diamond and Polaris members are entitled to these enhanced benefits. This is to encourage our SLC Gold members to stay more with Shangri-La and upgrade their tier member to the next level to enable them be eligible to the enhance member benefits.

HQ encouraged Each country to introduce their local delicacies as welcome amenities for Diamond and Polaris SLC members. TAH chose to give the local treats featured below as welcome amenities. These are presented in a local ethnic motif box.

HOUSEKEEPING & LAUNDRY

During the peak occupancy ,our team has come up with the great idea to enhance the sofa bed set-up by adding a twin topper on top of the sofa bed mattress. This makes the sofa bed more comfort to our guests, especially young adult. This is now part of our best practice.

HOUSEKEEPING & LAUNDRY –

19/12/22 was a challenging day without our Flatwork Ironer. We sent washed linens to RRR for ironing. Thank you, RRR, for lending us a helping hand! They allowed us to use their flatwork ironer after their operation hours. TAH's team was there from 11pm to 6am to iron our linens.

20/12/22... The problem was rectified by E'lux team. All operations resumed back to normal at around 3pm.

URUTAN MALAYSIA "TRAIN THE TRAINER" FOR TAH & RRR

This Urutan Malaysia "Train The Trainer" course is designed for trainers to learn both theory and practical skills on the newly created "Urutan Malaysia". Created by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, the Malaysia massage treatment will be featured in all spas operating in Malaysia. It will be the signature Malaysia treatment, like Thai massage is for Thailiand.

The Malaysian Signature Massage combines the best healing techniques from Chinese, Indian, Malay and indigenous massage techniques.

Procedure is in accordance with Ministry of Tourism and Culture specifications.
