Project Goals Campaign for Good
This project will aim to analyze and address the overall issue of lack of mentorship and the effect it has on underpriveleged New York City youth. Utilizing the research done to understand the impact of mentorship, this will become a visual campaign that recruits mentors and connects them to children that can benefit from a role model in their life.

Overview Mentorship
Lacking one-on-one mentorship is a problem that affects the lives of hundreds of thousands of children in New York City. It is a problem that closely impacts underpriveleged youth who don’t have a role model in their lives to learn from and aspire to be. Many low-income children are from single-parent households, immigrant families, or families that did not finish their own education. This makes it difficult for those children to navigate the education system without a one-to-one mentorship from someone who can guide them through the process. Public schools often suffer from over-crowding and lack the resources to give each child the attention they may need to finish their education. Mentorship can provide them with that much needed attention and helps the children stay on the right track. CAMPAIGN FOR GOOD

Bigs of NYC Mentorship Currently there are 520,799 children living at or below the poverty level in New York City. 149,000 are from singleparent families. The “Big” program aims to make sure every boy and girl in New York City in need of a mentor has a “Big” of his or her very own. BBBS of NYC is considered the founding agency of the nation’s youth mentoring movement since 1904.

Girls Write Now NYC Youth Girls Write Now is building a community of confident women, a community that takes girls seriously for who they are as well as who they will become. It is community of women writers from ages 13 to 83. Together, they write the future, one girl at a time. Introduces NYC public high school girls to women writers and digital media professionals from every discipline.

NYC Service Volunteering NYC Service promotes volunteerism, engages New Yorkers in service, builds volunteer capacity and mobilizes the power of volunteers and national service members to impact New York City’s greatest needs. It is a division of the Office of the Mayor, launched in April 2009 in response to President Barack Obama’s national call for volunteerism and a goal of engaging 100 million Americans in service by 2020. HIP Child Education Having Involved Parents or HIP created a campaign to help promote parent-child interaction in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They set up large puzzles, word searches, mazes, books, rulers and more around the streets of Milwaukee. Called “guerrilla classrooms,� the displays are designed to teach real-world applications on various subjects like math, science, geography and reading.

Target Audience Young Professionals

Strategy BBBSNYC Create a campaign to promote mentorship via a conference for young professionals to become mentors of the Big Sibs organization. The conference will allow young professionals to learn and understand what it means to be a mentor. They will be recruited through various companies under which they are employed. The conference will provide workshops for attendees to hear stories from alums of the program and other professionals in the organization. After the event, mentors are asked to apply for the Big Sibs program if they choose.
