ELEVATOR PITCH
Everyone believed heros were real when they were children, that's why they like to play hero games. However, most of the hero game apps on the market are violent. And parents are worried that these apps might mislead kids. Hello Hero is an application that combines kids' stories with a heroic experience; kids play through the stories as a hero and have to find as many clues and objects as they can in each level. The game leads kids to solve problems with their intelligence and talents instead of violence.
7
THESIS ABSTRACT Problem Almost every kid has the same dream, which is becoming a hero in the future. Nowadays, more and more parents allow their kids to use tablets for study and play However, many parents find that kids spend lots of time with violent hero games. Parents are very worried that their kids will be misled by these games. They may be afraid that kids will only solve problems through violence in the future. Instead, they encourage kids to play other educational apps, but kids don't have any interest in those because they think these apps are very boring. However, parents don't want their kids to spend much time playing violent games that have no educational value at all.

THESIS ABSTRACT Thesis Project Proposal Hello Hero is a tablet game for kids, combining fun with a values-based story. From the app, kids can transform to a hero and help many characters in their day-to-day life. Progress is very hard. They will face many different challenges they need to face and overcome. Also, they should make their own efforts to help the characters. Through this app, kids will know there are many ways to be a hero instead of just through violence. It can guide kids to learn and practice values-based life skills like honesty and kindness. This app also can develop kids' creative problem solving and let them have a lot of fun.

STATEMENT OF INTERESTS Video games have become the fastest growing type of entertainment for children. As I’ve watched my nephews and nieces always playing video games on smartphones and iPads, I’ve often considered how it will affect their long-term development. We all know that violent video games can have a negative impact by triggering children to transferring feelings of aggression to actions in the real world. However, I believe good video games can have a positive effect. I’ve implemented many positive themes and elements into my game Hello Hero to maximize the benefits.
violence is discouraged in this game. Some of these rules and challenges can definitely transfer to real life. Hello Hero is designed in a way that players need to concentrate and sustain their effort over a period of time. The game teaches them to try again and again, therefore they will learn perseverence in the face of challenges. I built this project with Flash and Unity. I used action script 3.0 and C# to code it out. The biggest challenge that I faced was to learn how to use Unity and C#. After using C# to code them, I need to set them in inspector.
Hello Hero has an interesting mix of everyday school and life experiences with a heroic story. For example, little kids want to go back home, but some older kids always bully them. Players can act like a hero by protecting their younger friends! Kids feel excited to mix their school life and hero experiences together and also find challenges to solve problems; they experience intrinsic motivation which promotes their development of initiative. Rules and challenges are well designed. Children score higher when they are better on logic and creativity; 11

Why kids like heroes? (From parents & kids) 1. The turtles are very cute. I like their weapons and Kung Fu. 2. Batman does not like other super hero. He has no super power. He just uses his own power to help 3. others. He is very simple.
34
