Terberg in 2013 - At a glance New products, new services, and new facilities have been introduced this year; all of which are essential ingredients to support the planned expansion of the Terberg business.
WELCOME “Welcome to the 3rd Newsletter from Terberg DTS (UK) Ltd. I genuinely hope that you enjoy reading this latest issue and trust that it gives you a detailed insight into the day-to-day business of the organisation. Terberg DTS is currently enjoying a substantial period of expansion, both in terms of the products and services that we now offer, as well as the facilities and total support that is available to our extensive customer base. The unit offers both road and rail functions and can operate with loads from 400 to 2800 tonnes. New products, new services, and new facilities have been introduced this year; all of which are essential ingredients to support the planned expansion of the Terberg business. Once again, please enjoy reading our 3rd newsletter.”
Terberg Charity Ball 2013 raises £10,000 “This year’s charity ball was yet another resounding success, raising a massive total of £10,000 for good causes. Held at the Crow Nest Park Golf Club in Brighouse; a superb location that was enhanced by the beautiful weather we had that weekend. The event was hosted by Terberg DTS Managing Director Alisdair Couper and his partner Trudi Akroyd. Over 80 people attended the evening, enjoying canapés and drinks, followed by a three course gourmet meal. Many great prizes were donated for the charity raffle and the penny auction gave everyone the opportunity to successfully bid. Entertainment during the evening was provided by a magician, a disco, and a comedian, with the headline act - a very talented local band called ‘The Fabulous BBKings’ - was superb and featured our very own Dan Pollard playing guitar and really showing us how talented he is. Many thanks go to all those who supported the event by attending, by donating prizes or by sponsoring the event with a cash donation - there are too many names to mention but, on behalf of Terberg DTS, everyone’s generosity is very much appreciated.” Al Donald, Terberg DTS Charity Ball 2013 Organiser

Following the charity ball, the Halifax Courier ran an article on the Terberg DTS donation to local good causes in which Alisdair Couper said “instead of giving money to charities and paying admin charges, we want to give the money direct to the causes. It’s basically an open forum for people who need a little bit of help. This is a totally new initiative and hopefully other companies might see this and want to make a pledge of their own.”
Launch of Kinglifter
2013 saw the development of the new range of truck-mounted forklifts that are being marketed under the Kinglifter brand in the UK. Manufactured at the Terberg Kinglifter plant in Holland, the new range of truck mounted forklifts fits all popular makes of trailer and rigid bodywork available in the UK and Ireland, and is renowned for its lightweight construction and proven versatility.
Development of Terberg’s Fire Division Making a show of ourselves Exposure of Terberg in the marketplace continued throughout 2013 with the company attending the CV Show, Multimodal, and IMHX, all of which were held at the NEC, as well as attending DVD at Millbrook. In September, the Fire Division will be exhibiting at the Emergency Services Show, whilst later in the year Terberg DTS is a headline sponsor of the APOA conference.
Terberg has now developed a brandnew website for the Fire Division
http://firevehicle.co.uk and quite uniquely, it has been purpose designed and is purely devoted to the Fire and Rescue market sector. New service vans are now on the road, and the product range and portfolio of customer services enhanced to reflect the success of the business.
Growth of Rental In the challenging distribution sector, Terberg has experienced a distinct shift in purchasing habits; with vehicle rental becoming a far more attractive proposition than the customary methods of outright purchase. As a result, over the past few years, Terberg has strategically developed its fleet of top quality rental trucks for the distribution sector, and is now the largest supplier of specialist vehicles to the distribution sector, with the highest availability in the market place.
Enhanced aftersales In 2013 Terberg has continued with the investment in its service and parts business with the addition of further service vans and mobile service engineers, together with increased stock levels, both at head office and at external locations.

“In the Spotlight” Expect Distribution of Bradford SPRING
In 2011, Expect Distribution in Bradford acquired its first Terberg YT182 distribution tractor, which was followed by a further YT180 in 2012. Two years on, ‘Terberg Today’ went to see Neil Rushworth, the company’s Operations Director, to measure the impact of this decision to specify purpose designed shunters. TT: Before Terberg, how did you handle trailer movements on site? NR: We used to assume that shunters were mainly for bigger operators, in places like sea ports and massive distribution centres. In common with many operators, we managed with whatever road going vehicle we had available in the yard. Although this served a purpose initially, it was far from ideal, especially in tight spaces for the manoeuvring of trailers and, as we got busier, there were more and more incidents taking place. TT: What triggered the decision to acquire your first shunter? NR: We expected occasional incidents to happen, it’s unavoidable in a busy yard, but the frequency became very noticeable, especially at night time in particular, when there are a large number of trailer movements, in comparison to daytime, when the fleet is out. TT: What have been the main benefits of operating a purpose designed shunter?

Neil Rushworth, Operations Director
NR: First and foremost, the number of incidents and accidents has reduced dramatically. However, it has also freed up more space on site: we have been able to narrow the trailer bays giving us better utilisation, as space here is at a premium. We can also use the shunter to deliver and collect trailers from customers that are on this industrial estate or in close proximity to our location. TT: Did you purchase the shunter? NR: No, we took it on a five-year hire agreement, as this is the business model that we use for all our material handling equipment as well as for our transport fleet. It fixes costs for us, as far as possible. TT: How do you find dealing with Terberg? NR: The service we have received is excellent. For both servicing of the vehicles and customer service in general, Terberg is extremely professional. They are the type of supplier that we like to partner with.
TT: Last but by no means least; Terberg has also supplied you with snowplough and gritter attachments for the YT182. NR: Yes that right. It’s a lifesaver for us for those occasions when we can’t get access to the yard. There is only one access road in and out of our site, and it’s on a slope, so the snowplough is essential to tackle the bad winter snow conditions here in West Yorkshire. Also the main road outside the site is often not gritted by the local Council. Expect Distribution provides a refreshing, dynamic approach to palletised distribution, warehousing and third party contract logistics from its sites in Bradford, Halifax and Low Moor. The Terberg distribution shunters are based in Bradford, where there are 75 vehicles based, covering rigid and tractor unit/trailer combinations, and Halifax where 9 vehicles are located on a site that has a particularly high number of trailer movements.
Around the Country
Great Bear Distribution Great Bear is a leading 3PL logistics business with a fleet in excess of 200 vehicles and 400 trailers. Their 26 distribution centres have a total area of almost 400,000m². The company has been working with Terberg for many years and currently operates over 20 Terberg tractors, covering both YT180’s and 182’s. Their fleet includes both purchased and hired units, all of which are maintained by Terberg DTS.
“The supply of shunting tractors is core to the success of the Terberg business as the company offers a comprehensive range of new and used tractors for distribution and sea port operations, either for outright purchase or for hire.” Richard Woodings, Head of Sales, UK & Ireland
Iceland Foods Iceland has over 750 frozen food stores throughout the UK, served by a highly efficient distribution network, and has been using Terberg tractors for many years. Terberg DTS recently supplied them with three YT182 distribution units. Like many customers in the UK, Iceland prefers to rent rather than purchase tractors.
Kinglifter Product News “Kinglifter as an ideal fit in our current product portfolio. It appeals not only to our existing customer base but also to potential new customers. For 2013, Kinglifter has a new mast design - a clear view pantograph, which allows unobstructed use of vision, giving not only safety advantages, but helping stability and improved efficiency.”
Ford Motor Company The Ford engine plant in Bridgend, Wales produces a range of engines for Ford and Jaguar cars. The site expanded its fleet with five YT182 distribution tractors on a long-term hire contract with Terberg DTS. These units have been adapted to facilitate Ford’s specialist trailers that are specified with air operated raising roofs to maximise loading capacity. The contract also includes full maintenance services.
