NAVAL AIR STATION WHIDBEY ISLAND is located in two sections near Oak Harbor, on Whidbey Island. It was commissioned as an active U.S. Navy installation on 21 September 1942. The area was home to Upper Skagit Indians long before the first Europeans, mostly fur traders, passed through in the late 1700s. The first settlers came in 1869 or 1870, and the town itself was founded and named in 1877. In 1884 Mount Vernon became the Skagit County seat. In 1998, Mount Vernon was rated the #1 "Best Small City in America" by the New Rating Guide to Life in America's Small Cities.

Downtown Mount Vernon is known for its annual Tulip Festival Street Fair, which is part of the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. The climate of Skagit County is similar to that of Northern France, with millions of tulips grown in the Skagit Valley.

BURLINGTON began as a logging camp in 1882, incorporated in 1902. Now locally famous for its proliferation of shopping malls and for having some of the best youth sports fields in Washington. For more than 75 years, Burlington has entertained thousands at the Berry Dairy Days three day festival started by the Burlington volunteer firemen. Berry Dairy Days is a celebration of the local agriculture and dairy industry that has shaped Burlington & the Skagit Valley for many years. Today, Fairhaven Avenue is the center of Burlington's old downtown, and provides a gathering place for the whole city during the annual summer Berry Dairy Days. (June 18 - 21, 2015)

Sedro-Woolley & Upper Skagit SEDRO-WOOLLEY is known as the "Gateway to the North Cascades" because it is located on the western edge of the majestic Cascade Mountain Range in northwest Washington State. It is situated north of Seattle, just south of Bellingham on Highway 20, along the banks of the Skagit River. Sedro-Woolley celebrated its 100th year, honoring the city's incorporation on December 19, 1898, which officially merged the neighboring towns of Sedro and Woolley. It is home to the longest running 4th of July celebration in Washington State. The celebration includes Loggerodeo, an International invitation only, pole climbing & chain saw carving competition. Up to 20,000 visitors attend this event each year! Founders Day is celebrated each year in September and is another well attended event by the local community.

UPPER SKAGIT includes a number of small towns along Hwy 20 East from Sedro-Woolley. You'll pass through Lyman, Hamilton, Concrete, Rockport and Marblemount. There is much history documented in this area and worth the research for history buffs. State Route 20 is the northernmost route across the Cascade Mountain Range in Washington and is commonly referred to as the North Cascades Highway. This Scenic Byway offers travelers a wide array of beautiful vistas and is part of the Cascade Loop, a 400 mile driving tour through the Cascades.

The Skagit Eagle Festival is a month long celebration during eagle-watching season. Activities take place in Concrete, Rockport and Marblemount every full weekend in January. The festival features a variety of free tours, walks, and a special presentation about a year in the life of an eagle. It is not uncommon for you to see up to 100 of these majestic birds. Arts & crafts, wine tasting, river rafting, music, dance and a wide variety of other outdoor and indoor activities are available.
