GET FIT!
Looking for a good workout to do at home? Rhonda Nelson, our very own fitness instructor, has created a program designed to shape, tone, destress and help you GET FIT! Her popular classes are now taught online through private links to YouTube videos so you can work out at home at a time that is convenient for you! Each class in this series combines simple cardio, strength training, and yoga/pilates for a complete body workout—and no need to worry about your fitness level, as Rhonda shows you options to suit your individual needs. Set to fun, upbeat music, each video will have you feeling energized and refreshed—ready for more!
Recommended materials: dumbbells, yoga mat or rug. Must have access to the internet.
Links to two new videos will be released to students every Monday of each week for 15 weeks.

Rhonda Nelson
Facilitator Rhonda Nelson has been in the fitness industry for over 35 years. She teaches all forms of aerobics, step, weights, rhythm drumming, pilates, and yoga. She is a personal trainer and has taught many students to become fitness instructors over the years. Her specialty is in teaching lifetime fitness to all who attend her popular group fitness classes. Her positive attitude is infectious, and she makes working out enjoyable and effective for all who attend.

MEDITATION FOR HEALTH
Have you heard about the benefits of meditation: reduces stress, anxiety, promotes emotional health, improves attention span, improves sleep, and controls pain. Are you ready to give meditation a try? Our class holds space for beginning meditators. It introduces the basics of meditation, with a focus on learning a variety of meditations and techniques to develop your own, comfortable practice beyond our sessions. Teri Hartley
Facilitator Teri is an RYT Yoga and Certified MBSR instructor teaching Yoga, Meditation and Mindfulness classes for just under two decades. She teaches an approachable method, and believes strongly that someone with no prior experience in yoga or mindfulness can become more balanced in daily life with these simple practices. In addition to her classes at Shasta College, she has the CBC-Y, Compassionate Care - Yoga, designation and utilizes the CBC foundations as a Crisis Counselor.

INTRODUCTION TO TAI CHI
This is an opportunity to learn China’s most revered exercise for health and longevity! In this introductory class you will learn the basic principles of Tai Chi’s slow moving and gentle exercises which are known for promoting relaxation, improving body awareness, balance, flexibility, and reducing stress. Age or physical condition is not a factor in learning Tai Chi. Students may repeat this class as often as they would like.

Michel Czehatowski
Facilitator Michel began studying Yang Family (or Yang Style) Tai Chi in 1975. He is proficient in the Single and Double movement forms (two person partner forms) of Tai Chi. His teachings promote and emphasize softness (relaxation) and listening (awareness). He enjoys sharing his knowledge of Tai Chi, health, and Chinese culture with others.

Shotokan Karate is the authentic traditional karate for the mind, body and spirit!! Don’t miss Shotokan Karate for teens and adults. Get stronger physically and mentally!! This class focuses on Basics including stances, blocks, punches, kicks and Kata (pre-arranged fighting forms). Instructors are Hiroko Mori (5th Degree Black Belt) and Brad Marsh (4th Degree Black Belt) of Shotokan Karate of America. For men, women and youths ages 10 and up. Facilitator Brad began training in 2000 in the Shotokan Ohshima method under Hiroko Mori, Godan (5th Degree Black Belt), and was awarded rank of Yodan in 2016 by Ohshima Sensei. Brad has been leading practices and teaching classes at Redding Shotokan Karate since 2002.

CHINESE MEDICINE: ANCIENT MEDICINE FOR MODERN HEALTH
Arguably, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is the most ancient medicine continuously in use in the world. Join Dr. Levings in this brief survey of the historical development of TCM into its current form; its five branches of treatment, including acupuncture; and the role it might play in your health restoration and maintenance. By the end of this course, the student will: 1. Have an introductory knowledge of the difference between Chinese medicine and western medicine. 2. Have a basic idea of how Chinese medicine and western medicine might be integrated for best outcomes. 3. Be able to independently practice the QiGong exercise Opening the Four Gates of Energy.

Facilitator Dr. Levings started her professional healthcare career as an RN and earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Grand Canyon University. She holds a Doctoral Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She is an adjunct professor at Yo San University.

She received her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, AZ and completed her residency program in Scottsdale, AZ. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Southern Maine, a Master’s Degree in Nutritional Biochemistry from the University of South Florida, College of Medicine as well as, an Advanced Fellowship in Anti-Aging and Functional Medicine.

FEELING SAFE, BEING SAFE
Emergencies happen when we least expect them. Knowing what to do in advance so you can react quickly allows people to feel safer and be more prepared during an emergency. Feeling Safe, Being Safe teaches you what you need to know to prepare yourself, your family and your pets for an emergency evacuation. You will learn how to pack a “Go Bag” and the other steps you can take now to ease the stress of an emergency evacuation. You will also learn important insurance information for renters and homeowners, the three levels of evacuation and the importance of planning now. This class was designed for people with disabilities, but it is useful to anyone concerned with being prepared during an emergency.

ABUSE PREVENTION
Abuse is a violation of the right we all have to healthy, supportive and safe relationships. The Center for Disease Control reports that approximately 1.3 million women are physically abused each year in the United States. People with disabilities have the highest rates of abuse. In this class, you will learn how to protect yourself and others from abuse. This interactive class also teaches you what abuse is, types of abuse, how to spot an abuser, and how to set personal boundaries so that you can protect yourself from abuse. You will also learn how to report abuse if it happens to you or someone else. This class is designed for people with disabilities, but provides valuable information about abuse for everyone.

ME AND YOU
Me and You teaches adults with developmental disabilities about healthy vs. unhealthy relationships. This class focuses on self-esteem, mutual respect, disability pride, true friendship, boundaries and more. It also offers a great support system and a safe place to learn.

Facilitator The We Care A Lot Foundation believes people with developmental disabilities have important hopes and dreams that deserve to be supported. People with developmental disabilities can, and will, make positive contributions to their communities when given a chance and the right support. We Care a Lot Foundation helps create opportunities for people to pursue their hopes and dreams while offering invisible support, so they can be contributing members of their communities. Since 2005, We Care A Lot Foundation has provided advocacy and employment opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities in Far Northern California. Approximately half of the employees of the foundation are peer instructors who are individuals with developmental disabilities. Peer instructors train others with disabilities as well as the general community on important topics such as abuse prevention, emergency preparedness, healthy relationships, voting, and bullying prevention. We Care A Lot Foundation also supports 5 People First chapters which is an advocacy organization for individuals with developmental disabilities.
