CONSIDERING A MOVE?

As you settle into fall, spending more time indoors—you may start to wonder if you have the right home for your lifestyle. We’d be happy to discuss a potential move. Take advantage of our 22+ years of experience and reach out any time with questions at 847.275.0277.

RELOCATION ADVICE Destination: Home

WHETHER YOU’RE UPSIZING, DOWNSIZING, buying your first house, or looking for a place to retire, choosing the right neighborhood is central to your buying decision. But how do you know what’s right for you and your family? We recommend starting with a list of priorities to decide what is a “must-have” vs. a “nice-to-have.” Websites like niche.com are a great resource, and show rankings and data related to schools, crime, income, cost of living, and other factors for different cities and neighborhoods. Other factors you should consider include: value range and cost of ownership (you may not want to be the most expensive house on the block); proximity to your work, parks, and other conveniences; being in a good school district (even when you don’t have children, it helps with property values); and of course safety (crime-mapping sites such as CityProtect, SpotCrime, NeighborhoodScout, and AreaVibes are all good options). Want to know more about neighborhoods outside of Illinois? We can help with that too! We have great resources throughout the country that can give you a better sense of what it’s actually like to live there. n — Shaunna Burhop

OUR COMMUNITIES

IF YOU ARE OF A CERTAIN AGE (ahem) you may recall a childhoodfavorite show that started with these famous words: “It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor. Would you be mine?” We thought it would be fun to share some favorite things from our neighborhoods—and why we love where we live—but we also want to learn a little more about yours too! Email me at shaunna.burhop@bairdwarner.com and tell us the name of your neighborhood plus one of your favorite things about it, and we’ll enter you into our drawing to win a $100 gift certificate to your favorite local restaurant. n — S.B.

Shaunna’s Neighborhood:

Ivy Hill, Arlington Heights

Her favorites: “Catching beautiful sunsets while walking my dog Tucker near the open greenspace that runs through the neighborhood; quick trips to Trader Joe’s; and how neighbors demonstrate a sense of pride talking about living in Ivy Hill. I also love seeing firsthand how residents update their homes—this gives me valuable information when consulting with potential sellers.”

Emily’s Neighborhood: Weathersfield, Schaumburg

Her favorites: “I love exploring the paths on walks with my dog Finn—parks and nature are built into this neighborhood—and attending special events at Schaumburg Boomers stadium. Plus there’s easy access to great shopping at Woodfield Mall, and you can’t beat the Metra for quick trips into the city.”

Tracy’s Neighborhood: Hunting Ridge, Palatine

Her favorites: “I’m proud to serve on our HOA where we organize events to help foster community and provide opportunities for neighbors to get together and socialize. One of my favorite events is “Haunting Ridge” where we hold various Halloween-themed events throughout October.”
