Kids preschool age through eighth grade are invited to Odell Public Library’s Summer Reading Club 2022. Weekly to-go activities will begin Monday, June 13, and go through the week of July 11. Stop in and learn about the fun and free ways to keep kids learning over the
summer. Plus there will be free books and fabulous prizes! Upcoming activities include a kickoff pool party at Morrison High School, StoryWalk in the Park, art and science activities and Reading BINGO. Born: September 22, 1943 in Clinton, IA Died: April 30, 2022 in Albany, IL EILEEN REEDY, 78, of Albany, IL, died Saturday, April 30, 2022, at her home. Her memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with Rev. Father John Stack officiating. A memorial visitation will precede the service starting at 3:00 PM until the start of the service. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials have been established to Planned Parenthood and Clinton Humane Society. Eileen was born September 22, 1943, in Clinton, IA, to Ralph “Bud” and Fern (Point) Reedy. She was educated in the Albany and Fulton schools. She later attended nursing school in Clinton at the former Mount St. Clare College. She graduated with a Bachelor

of Science in Nursing. She began her career as a radiology technician and worked as a nurse and nurse practitioner in various states throughout her life. One of her greatest achievements was being a flight nurse on the helicopter. She ended her career with Mercy Hospital in Clinton, IA, continuing education in respiratory therapy and radiology technician. Eileen was an avid book collector, traveling all over with her niece to obtain new books, first editions and signed copies. Between the two, their collection is well over 10,000 books. Survivors include her niece, Jill Seifried of Albany, IL; two great-nephews, Michael (Sheila) Seifried of Texas and Patrick Seifried of Cedar Rapids, IA. After two and a half months of training at the Albany Fire Protection District station, the spring 2022 NREMT Basic Class wrapped up last week. Nine students passed the initial training course and will move on to clinicals and ride time before taking their national exam. The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians courses were taught on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays by Brooke and Dan Posateri of Albany, with assistance from other volunteer instructors. Congratulations to the students for completing the NREMT, which sets them on a path to be EMTs in their communities. Sauk Valley Community College to have EMT training program DIXON – Sauk Valley Community College will be holding an Emergency Medical Technician Basic training course in the fall. The program will run from Monday, Aug. 1, to Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the Sauk Valley Community College campus. The EMT program is designed to train police, fire, rescue personnel and people interested in the techniques of prehospital emergency care. Students will gain the knowledge and skills to provide basic emergency medical assistance to people in need. The course will combine reading, lecture, computer-based and online learning, significant study time and practical labs. Skills that attendees will learn from the course include patient assessment, splinting, airway management and appropriate interventions. The course will include 84-plus hours of classroom training, clinical experience and field experience for students. After completion of the course, candidates are qualified to take the examination for certification in Illinois.
EMTs must have good physical stamina, endurance and body conditions to handle significant walking, stooping and lifting. Students also must be able to balance items and patients that weigh a minimum of 125 pounds. To become certified as an EMT, candidates must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or equivalent at the time of the course’s completion. Participating students will complete 25 hours of clinical practice with at least 10 hours of patient contact hours outside of the scheduled class time, The course will cost $799. Textbooks will be an out-of-pocket expense for students. Class sessions will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Aug. 1 through Dec. 14. Classes also will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, Monday, Sept. 19, and Saturday, Oct. 1, and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5.
