The 1990 amendments to the Clean Air Act require potentially major sources of air emissions to obtain federally enforceable operating permits. A FESOP permit allows a source that is potentially major to take operational limits in the permit so that it is a non-major source. The permit will contain federally enforceable limitations that restrict the facility’s emissions to non-major levels. The permit will be enforceable by the USEPA, as well as the Illinois EPA. Attorney general: COD violated Open Meetings Act in 2011 Hartman says board failed to inform public of new deal for Breuder at 2011 meeting By NATHAN LURZ nlurz@shawmedia.com The College of DuPage Board of Trustees violated the Open Meetings Act when it approved a 2011 contract extension for President Robert Breuder, according to the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. A nonbinding opinion written by Assistant Attorney General Matt Hartman and dated July 24, 2015, stated the board did not adequately inform the public before extending Breuder’s contract during its meeting July 12, 2011. By NATHAN LURZ nlurz@shawmedia.com The DuPage County Health Department is monitoring the small number of West Nile virus cases it has seen this year in mosquitoes. Spokesman David Hass said the department has seen a total of four positive tests in Downers Grove, Westmont, Addison and Naperville. The county has created a Personal Protection Index to direct the public on proper response to the virus. DuPage County is at Personal Protection Index level 1, with an abundance of active mosquitoes and climate conditions favorable for the development of the virus. There has yet to be a human case of the virus in the county this year, according to the department website. The virus is spread when mosquitoes bite infected birds and then bite humans. Q & A with the Hearing Doctor Sudden Change in Hearing
Q: I woke up with a decrease in hearing in one
of my ears. Should I see an Audiologist or wait a week or so and see if my hearing gets better?
A: There are certain
reasons to seek care immediately when it comes to your ears and hearing. In some cases we have a small ‘window of Dr. Terri Lightbody opportunity’ to treat the (630) 580-5777 ears and possibly regain some of the lost hearing. It all depends on what is causing the change in hearing. It is very important to immediately schedule a hearing evaluation if you experience any of the of the following: • A sudden change in one or both ears • Stuffiness or the sensation of water in the ears • Sudden onset of tinnitus (ear noises) • Ear pain or discomfort • Asymmetrical hearing loss (one sided) • Dizziness or vertigo

By NATHAN LURZ nlurz@shawmedia.com
Sometimes a change in hearing is caused by cerumen (ear wax) buildup. Cerumen impaction can cause hearing loss, ear pain, an increase in tinnitus awareness, and even dizziness. Removing the cerumen solves the problem. A change in hearing can be caused by a vascular incident like a change in the blood flow to the delicate inner ear organs. A middle or inner ear infection can also cause a decrease in hearing ability, more awareness of tinnitus, and balance issues. Certain disease processes can also cause any of these symptoms. Meniere’s Disease is characterized by asymmetrical hearing loss, stuffiness, vertigo, and tinnitus. A sudden change in hearing or any of the other listed symptoms is not normal and needs to be evaluated right away. If you have any questions about your hearing or need to schedule an appointment, please call our office at 630-580-5777.

After years of absent or temporary leadership, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County has announced its new executive director after a unanimous board vote July 28. Michael Hullihan, 60, will take the reins of the district after seven years as public works director and village engineer in Oak Brook. Hullihan said it was the “best job in the Michael world.” Hullihan “I frequent the forest preserves with my dog. We go to puppy parks and enjoy being out in the district,” he said. “I’ve been a lot of places, and this is one of the best-run forest preserve districts with some of the best facilities I’ve seen anywhere.” The board approved a one-year, $165,000 contract 6-0, making him the district’s first executive director since the Board of Commissioners forced Arnie Biondo into retirement and out of the position in August 2014 after only eight months on the job. Hullihan was picked by a committee including the Board of Commissioners and senior staff, with a final selection by President Joe Cantore. Hullihan will begin Aug. 24. Hullihan said he believed his career trajectory had positioned him as a good fit for what the district wanted and needed. He believed his first job, building public works in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – where he retired as a lieutenant colonel – would be particularly helpful. “It’s about introducing the public to safe interaction with nature and while doing that instructing them and teaching them,” he said. “The skill set is the same. There are a lot of smart people in the forest preserve district with some very specialized technical abilities. ... You have to lead in one direction and get the mission accomplished.” In a statement, Cantore was upbeat about the addition to district staff. “Mike brings exceptional leadership skills to the district and will help ensure it remains a leading agency in conservation and preservation,” he said. “His executive experience and background will help advance this organization on behalf of all DuPage County residents.”

Incarceration is often the worst solution SPRINGFIELD – “Ma’am I’ve got some good news for you. Your grandson is being released from prison.” I made that phone call about 15 years ago after covering a session of the Illinois Prisoner Review Board and watching the board members vote to release a long-serving inmate. The elated grandmother dropped the phone receiver and screamed, “Thank you, Jesus! VIEWS Thank you, Jesus!” I could hear Scott her feet thumping and relatives Reeder hollering with joy. Cheers roared across the phone line. And then there was silence. The grandmother came back on the phone and whispered, “Which one of my grandsons is getting out?” Our society has created a culture of incarceration that permeates impoverished neighborhoods throughout Illinois and the country. No nation incarcerates more people, or a higher percentage of its citizenry, than the United States of America. Not China. Not Russia. Not Iran. The Land of the Free has become the Home of the Incarcerated. Growing up on a farm in downstate Galesburg, I would look out my bedroom window at night and see the eerie glow of prison lights just down the road. I wondered why folks there were locked up. They seemed to come from a world different than my own. Many were there for drug crimes and other nonviolent offenses. When it comes to drugs, wealthy and middle-class folks end up in rehab and low-income ones end up doing time. Middle-class people have “youthful indiscretions,” while those from poor families have felonies. It’s part of that pernicious concoction of race, class and hopelessness that perverts our justice system. The Brookings Institute found that blacks are far more likely to be arrested for selling or possessing drugs than whites, even though whites use drugs at the same rate. And whites are actually more likely to sell drugs. This mass incarceration for nonviolent offenses doesn’t serve our society well. It perpetuates the cycle of poverty. The Illinois Department of Corrections reports that 62 percent of inmates are parents. Seldom is a family better off when a nonviolent mom or dad is behind bars. Alternatives to prison must be deployed. Prisons are taking a devastating toll on our state’s inner cities and escalating the financial burden on taxpayers who are forced to support a system that breeds poverty and destroys families.

Mourners stand in line July 25 at Lisle’s DuPage African Methodist Episcopal Church to get into the wake and funeral for Sandra Bland, who died in police custody in Texas earlier this month.
OUR VIEW
Bland family shouldn’t have to wait forever for the truth When a tragic death is compounded by a sense that it was a result of rank injustice, combined with a long history of similar injustices committed against the black community, the grieving that follows is understandably tinged with anger. And there’s no doubt that the family, friends and neighbors of Sandra Bland have every right to be angry. Even if it’s proven conclusively that the Naperville resident did commit suicide in a Texas jail cell, the video of her traffic stop and arrest show an interaction with a police officer going terribly wrong, and seemingly through no fault of her own. Remember, too, that this video is the last footage her family will ever see of her. In her last moments of freedom she was being intimidated, treated like a criminal – all, supposedly, over an improper signal for a lane change. But while everyone who knew and loved Sandra Bland is undoubtedly angry now, and will be for some time to come, the focus of her funeral services July 25 at DuPage African Methodist Episcopal Church in Lisle

was on who she was, and what a loss that is for that community. It would have been easy to play to the assembled cameras, to make inflammatory remarks, to make the gathering about the speakers instead of the departed and her loved ones. Any such urge was for the most part resisted, and that’s more than admirable. It’s astonishing. Sandra Bland’s family has shown remarkable patience, even as they’ve firmly demanded real answers from the Waller County, Texas, officials about what happened. Their respectful determination gives great weight to their point of view. We should not expect them to be patient or even respectful forever, however. The black community in this country is accustomed to dirty dealing and mistruths from officials, and they’ll be watching out for that, as well they should be. Hoping for justice is probably too much to expect in a case like this. It’s already an injustice, no matter what happens next. But we do hope that the full, complete and unaltered truth will come out of Waller County, whatever that truth may be.

The producers vs. the parasites
To the caller complaining about Gov. Rauner’s so-called austerity. I’m sorry, but the producers owe the parasites nothing. The welfare state creates grateful recipients and resentful donors. It’s time to eliminate entitlements and subsidies and promote charity instead.
Politicians are above the law
The feds ease off on the investigation into Hillary Clinton having kept classified emails on her personal server. She said there were no classified materials on her server – that should not have ended it. Ordinary people like us must follow federal law. Special people like politicians don’t need to. Case closed. So what else is new?

Michael Madigan and John Cullerton are to blame
Rep. [Michael] Zalewski’s concern for safety, crime prevention, disabled people and other services provided to various people as he stated in his news release is commendable. It follows the talking points that are dictated by Michael Madigan and used in his news statements. Madigan is trying to press the issue to justify a tax increase on the middle class, as usual, and try to deflect blame onto Gov. [Bruce] Rauner. The governor did not create the financial problems that exist in Illinois. They are the product of 30 years of Madigan and John Cullerton controlling the state legislative houses. It may behoove Zalewski, who is a member of the finance committee, to read the state’s constitution regarding appropriations of public funds not exceeding estimated available funds. If we keep going in the same direction under Madigan, Illinois will be financially destitute.
In defense of teacher salaries
I don’t understand why there’s so much griping about teachers. I’m not a teacher, but my daughter has a third-year teacher in the Chicago suburbs whose starting salary was about $34,000. That’s a rather meager salary for someone who invested a lot of money to get a bachelor’s degree. If we as a society are not willing to offer new teachers (more than) a meager salaTrump and veterans Donald Trump, you’re totally wrong on your ry, that will only discourage our brightest students from becoming teachers. Our thinking of what makes a hero. Every one young people know that more money of our men and women who serve in U.S. Armed Forces is a hero. By C.R. Walker Glen Ellyn residents are blessed to have many beautiful parks. What many probably don’t realize though is these parks are in such lovely shape because of the generous work of volunteers who have worked to preserve and maintain them. The Glen Ellyn Park District’s AdoptA-Park program invites school groups, non-profit agencies and other organizations to clean up trash, inspect play grounds, report hazards, as well as plant flowers and trees to its parks. If you’re looking to give something back to the community, and willing to collaborate with others, this is a great volunteer opportunity for your group. Churches, youth groups, local businesses and other organizations have all participated and made a positive difference while nurturing local natural resources. Visit www.gepark.org for more in-
formation, including guidelines and to download an application. Understanding that not everyone can get a group together to Adopt-APark, but knowing that many individuals would like to help in a similar way, the Glen Ellyn Park District also schedules Restoration Work Days. The next scheduled ones are for August 8 at Churchill Park and August 29 at Glen Ellyn Manor Park from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. As a volunteer, you will need to bring a pair of work gloves to help clear invasive plants, maintain trails, plant native plants and seeds, as well as clean up debris. This is a great opportunity for any individual, as well as for families and other service groups. The parks would be nowhere as beautiful as they are today if it weren’t for these special Saturday morning work days. Invasive plants and the loss of native species, as well as the disturbance from some human visitors, make the role of volunteers significant in restoring these popular places.

Teachers work far more hours than their contracted 180 days: Meetings before and after school, planning time, required professional development, grading, administrative paper work and before/after school activities, which sometimes include tutoring. Yes, we do “technically” have about two months off during the summer. But are we really off? During the summer many teachers are seeking additional resources, working in their classrooms to prep for the upcoming school year, taking courses to further perfect their craft and enrich their students’ learning experience or working a summer job to supplement their teachers’ salary. Mind you, teachers are 10-month salary employees. Let’s put a teacher’s average salary into perspective: The average teacher’s salary nationwide is $50,000. I would say that’s a super deal!

Every time some nut case shoots people, whether for weird religious reasons or for other reasons, politicians scream for more gun control. When they do this, they are covering up the fact that federal laws are already in place to address such crimes. We have the laws we need; what we don’t seem to have is federal prosecutors to apply the laws and keep the monsters off the street. If those laws had been applied earlier, many of those people would not have been out of prison to murder people.

Another Press Stunner Earns Chicago 1-1 Tie at Washington Dunn scores late to prevent Spirit’s first home defeat of 2015 Germantown, Md. – The NWSL-leading Chicago Red Stars nearly handed third-place Washington Spirit its first home defeat of the season on Saturday night, with forward Christen Press giving Chicago the lead in the first half with a stunning long-range shot. League leading goal scorer Crystal Dunn tied the match in the final ten minutes of an entertaining game that saw Chicago deliver another strong showing to remain undefeated in four straight matches. The Red Stars, had the first promising look of the matchup in just the sixth minute of play: goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris did well to palm away a powerful shot from Canucks striker Adriana Leon. Washington created a chance of its own four minutes later, but Laura del Rio’s driven shot from inside the box was kept out by Canada international, Karina LeBlanc, who cleared the ball from her area. Press would give the Red Stars the lead in the 30th minute courtesy of her second goal in as many matches since winning the World Cup with the U.S. The 26-year-old found herself with time and space inside the Spirit’s half, she took a few touches from well outside the box before unleashing a rocket past an outstretched Harris and inside the left upright. Taryn Hemmings’ excellent work on the right could have given Press another goal in stoppage time of the first half, but the forward’s near post flick was deflected wide. Forward Jen Hoy had one last look for Chicago before the break: World Cup Golden Ball nominee Julie Johnston dribbled into the box on the right and delivered the ball to the former Princeton standout, whose attempt from close range was blocked by a Washington defender. In the second half, Red Stars center back Johnston had a pair of excellent clearances on both sides of a dangerous 56th-minute shot by the Spirit’s Dunn, who unleashed a left footed shot from just outside the area, only to see the ball whistle over

the frame. On the other end of the field Vanessa DiBernardo navigated around a defender on the right and picked out Hoy, whose close range attempt forced a point-black reflex save from Harris. Moments after Chicago defender Samantha Johnson’s 80th-minute challenge against Washington’s Dunn in the box was ruled to have been fair, the Spirit striker tied the match from the run of play, pouncing on the rebound from a blocked Christine Nairn effort. After controlling the ball, the 23-yearold Dunn drove a low, left-footed shot inside the left post that gave goalkeeper LeBlanc no chance to save it. Chicago immediately responded, but rookie sensation Sofia Huerta saw her right-footed curler from the left side of the box saved in spectacular fashion by Harris, who left her feet and tipped the ball out from behind her before it could find its way inside the far post. The Spirit subsequently created a pair of chances to win the game. First, substitute Hayley Raso released a cracker of shot that took a deflection and went wide of the left upright. Then, Ali Krieger found Dunn on the right, who then drove into the penalty area before firing toward the near post to force a diving save from LeBlanc. It took one last goal-line clearance from the Red Stars’ Johnston for the visitors to bag a valuable away point from the draw, which puts Head Coach Rory Dames’ squad two points ahead of second-place Seattle Reign FC in the standings. The Chicago Red Stars look to defend their top spot in the NWSL standings when they return home for an August 1 clash with defending NWSL champions FC Kansas City that is likely to feature several World Cup winners on both teams. He said the office is aware of the opinion and is considering whether to pursue legal action. “The Attorney General’s admonition to observe the Open Meetings Act is welcome and followed,” Hamilton said in the statement. “We are here for the faculty and the students, because education is COD’s purpose, not insider enrichment.”

The ignorance about teacher pay
This goes out to all the people speaking in ignorance about the work ethic of teachers and how much they are being paid. What they don’t realize is that teachers work many hours beyond the time spent in the classroom. They have to constantly jump through hoops to satisfy state and federal mandates. What is worse is that they have to deal with ungrateful politicians and ignorant members of the community who believe they make too much money. These people need to either get informed or keep their mouths shut.
Griping about teacher salaries
I’ve been reading a lot of griping ... about teachers’ salaries and the low number of days and hours they work. I was a teacher for 40 years. I have three university degrees in my subject field, including the doctorate and post-doctoral work in the lab for nearly seven years. My favorite so-called level of teaching was middle school. I don’t understand some people’s concern about teachers’ short days. To get projects and tests back to students in two days or less requires long nights of grading, so the students have something approaching immediate knowledge of their progress. One hundred thousand dollar teaching salaries were dreams for me. I didn’t get anywhere near that. The summers were usually spent in factory jobs to replenish the family bank account. But everything else about teaching made it the most important and enjoyable career I could’ve heard of. If I had a do-over, I wouldn’t change much at all.

HINSDALE – It didn’t take long for the newly opened Fuller House to distinguish itself from other restaurants in downtown Hinsdale. A large and lively outdoor patio set the scene before my date and I entered an equally vibrant pub atmosphere. Greeted just inside the front door by the hostess, we first noticed the expansive bar centered on the ground floor of the two-story establishment. With the restaurant just a stone’s throw from the train station, it simply screams to be a gathering spot for the after-work crowd. Fuller House offers a variety of specialty cocktails, plus a solid craft beer selection we enjoyed sampling. Hungrily taking up our menus, we scanned the wide array of salads, pizzas, burgers and other hand-held items, opting for an appetizer to start. We considered the woodfired pretzel sticks with honey mustard and pimento cheese sauces, as well as a cheese and charcuterie plate, before settling on Wisconsin cheese curds with a zesty Southwest ranch dipping sauce. Lightly breaded and fried to a perfect crispiness outside, the curds had a wonderful texture. Several main courses tickled our fancies. My date contemplated the fried buffalo chicken sandwich with blue cheese crumbles, along with several of the wood-fired pizzas prepared in the blazing oven in plain sight on the edge of the dining area. She ultimately decided on the 10inch arugula and prosciutto pizza with lemon, garlic and an olive oil drizzle. None of the flavors were hidden – the earthy taste of the arugula, the saltiness of the prosciutto and the creaminess of fresh mozzarella – all intertwined in a delightful combination. Nearly every entree sounded appetizing to me, including the fish and chips, brisket tacos and pulled pork sandwich, but the burgers were

Abundance of offseason sports gives athletes plenty of options By SCOTT SCHMID sschmid@shawmedia.com
Options abound
Sports Performance is one of the elite volleyball clubs in the country. Its 18U red team that features Daniele Messa (St. Francis), Natalie Schilling (Glenbard West) and Erica Walker (Wheaton North) won an AAU national title in June. Molly Haggerty, a Nebraska recruit who will be entering her senior year at St. Francis, has been playing club volleyball with Sports Performance [her 18U Elite team also won an AAU national title] since the age of 12 and is quick to credit that environment and the coaching of Rick Butler and Troy Gilb for a lot of her individual development. “I’ve learned a lot about volleyball and my IQ is stronger,” Haggerty said. “I used to be a setter and then moved to outside hitter, so [club] helped me develop all of my skills to be an allaround player.” It’s not just volleyball players who have a plethora of competition options in the offseason and are benefiting from extra coaching.

It used to be that elite high school athletes had three jerseys in their closets – one for a fall sport, one for a winter sport, and one for a spring sport. Many high school athletes today still have three jerseys in the closet, but increasingly those jerseys are home and away high school jerseys for one sport and a uniform for a club team. More and more high school athletes are choosing to specialize in one sport with year-round competition aided by a plethora of AAU and club programs. The downside is fewer well-rounded athletes representing their high schools and a possibility of burnout and injury, but there are plenty of benefits for high school athletes willing to specialize in one sport and play for clubs and on AAU teams in the offseason.
AAU basketball is busy in the summer with players competing in tournaments across the country for area teams such as Chicago Lockdown, Illinois Wolves and Mercury Elite for boys and Illinois Lady Lightning for girls. The Lady Lightning have teams for grade school players plus a slew of squads for high school players. Mercury Elite has several boys teams at multiple age levels plus three girls teams at the 14U level, a far cry from when the program first started nine years ago. “In the last three years, it’s gone from probably three to four teams to where it is now with 19 teams,” said founder Dave Ruggles, whose program has players from across the suburbs. “We started with one team and we grew it from there.” Traveling teams also are huge for baseball, softball and soccer players, and the competition just as fierce. Some soccer players choose to forgo their high school teams altogether and focus solely on club ball, getting high-level instruction and college exposure with clubs such as Eclipse Select and Chicago Fire Juniors. Top Tier Baseball draws heavily from Chicago and the suburbs but also includes players from downstate Illinois and northwest Indiana. Similarly, Longshots baseball is based in Downers Grove and DuPage Training Academy is in Carol Stream, but both draw from wide areas. The Beverly Bandits, Downers Grove Rebels, Illinois Chill and Lemont Rockers are just a few of the many travel softball programs that feature players from throughout the suburbs.

Lots of sports options for athletes looking to specialize Athletes who decide to specialize in one sport have plenty of options to choose from. Club and AAU teams not only offer top-notch competition, but also the chance to get noticed by coaches at the college level. Here are just some of the several organizations in the area that provide playing opportunities outside of high school and junior high.
nois Wolves also have a local tie with Mike Mullins founding the organization in 1999. Mullins had two sons, Bryan and Brendan, play at Downers Grove South before going on to play, and now coach, college basketball. Wheaton resident Dave Ruggles founded Mercury Elite and has had a number of local players go through the program, including son Josh who recently graduated from Wheaton Warrenville South.

Longshots Baseball, based in Downers Grove, has sent hundreds of players to college programs in 22 years of operation. Based out of Acceleration Sports Performance in Naperville, 29ers Baseball has a local flair, and DuPage Training Academy in Carol Stream draws from across the western suburbs, including several players from Glen Ellyn and Wheaton.
Basketball
The AAU basketball scene has grown significantly in relevance in the past 20 years and a number of locally based teams are part of that growth. On the girls side, Lady Lightning is one of the premier programs. It starts with programs beginning in third grade and goes all the way through high school. The team typically has a number of Montini players, but draws players from all around the Chicago area. Lady Lightning had 11 players make college commitments in the Class of 2015.

No,” said Glenbard South softball coach Julie Fonda, who added that the increased number of traveling teams has impacted in-house leagues. “But if you want to be a college softball player, you have to do it. You don’t have a choice. That’s where the recruiting happens. It doesn’t happen during the high school season.” In the short term, a strong showing in a tournament in front of college coaches is a

Even if a scholarship doesn’t come at the end of the summer, playing against elite competition in the offseason is a great way to improve. The invite-only Beverly Bandits team is an extreme example of a travel team. In addition to players from south suburban Chicago and northwest Indiana, the Bandits have players that hail from Indianapolis, northern Wisconsin, Virginia and West Virginia. With so many far-flung players, practice during the summer is nearly nonexistent. Not all high-level teams
eschew practice time. The Mercury Elite and Longshots baseball fit practices into their schedules. Andy Schultz, who just completed his second season as the head baseball coach at Glenbard West, also is employed with the DuPage Training Academy, where he teaches lessons and coaches a 15U squad. “I teach the same stuff, just a little bit more scaled down because it is freshmen versus varsity guys,” Schultz said. “I get into more basic fundamentals with the 15U guys but I teach a lot of the same things – how to play the game at a fast pace and at a higher level.”
Recent changes in the soccer club landscape have had a major effect on high school teams. On the boys side, U.S. Soccer moved its Development Academy league, a nationwide collection of elite clubs in the under-18 and under-16 age levels, to a 10-month season starting in 2012. That meant players had to choose between playing for their club or their high school, and a number of top players have gone the club route. On July 18 the Chicago Fire’s U-18 team won the national championship. The team played the bulk of its schedule in the Midwest-based Mid-America Division along with other Chicago area teams, Sockers FC and Chicago Magic. The playoffs took place all over the country. As for girls soccer, the Elite Clubs National League is similar to the boys version. The year-round, travel-oriented league formed for the 2009-10 season. Local club Eclipse Select won the U-16 ECNL title last year. Unlike on the boys
Both sides of the line?
Softball
Bandits softball, which includes the Beverly Bandits locally, has invite-only teams across the country. Illinois Chill is more local but plays in tournaments throughout the country. The Lemont Rockers and Downers Grove Rebels feature several local players.
High school tennis teams typically boast some solid talent, but the level of competition at United States Tennis Association events gives athletes another outlet to test themselves. Kolie Allen from Glenbard East, Martin Joyce from Hinsdale Central, and Meg Kowalski and Gianni Ross from Lyons Township have found success on the USTA circuit this summer after starring for their high school teams during the most recent school year.
Volleyball
Illinois is a hotbed for volleyball (Loyola University won the last two NCAA men’s titles, besting Lewis University this year), and club programs such as Sports Performance in Aurora and 1st Alliance, which practices at The Max in McCook, stoke the fire with nationally competitive teams. Both have double-digit Division I players go through the programs in each graduating class and attract talent from all over Chicago. the form of college opportunities, but that’s for each athlete to decide. “I want them to [play travel ball] but I do think you need a little bit of a balance,” Schultz said. “I understand the importance of travel baseball for kids who want to play college baseball. But I also want them committed to building our program [at Glenbard West]. I want what is best for them individually but I don’t want them sacrificing the good of our program.”
There are plenty of options available for high school athletes looking to stay competitive in their sports in between high school seasons, each one offering a little something different. Some programs focus on playing in highly-competitive tournaments with the thought being the competition will make players better, while other programs balance skill development and live competition. There is something to be gained from staying sharp in the offseason and playing outSports editor Jason Rossi side of high school, and there are some tangible benefits in contributed to this report.
