Sunshine Preschool closes after 44 years WHEATON – On May 21, 38 chattering preschoolers took to the risers in the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church for the last time in the 44-year history of Sunshine Preschool. The first preschool opened by a church in the city, Sunshine held its final graduation ceremony last week. “It’s been a sad week closing things down,” said Linda Krier, the school’s interim director. “There’s a lot of tradition here at this school.” Krier said Sunshine made the decision to close when faced with cost-prohibitive but newly-required fire code upgrades, declining enrollment because of competition and the death of longtime director Anne Marie Brinley. The school had 85 students this year from across the community, Krier said. She said
veteran at Sunshine, said the school made it a priority to teach students who otherwise wouldn’t have a chance to go to preschool by partnering with the church to provide scholarships. “We’ve had a lot of refugee families – a wonderful, diverse group,” she said. “A lot of children would learn to speak English around here just by being around the other children.” Sunshine’s inclusiveness and passion for children kept Padera at the school for years, and she said last week’s graduation ceremony was both joyous and sad. “We all had such respect and love for each other, it was a great group to work with,” she said. “There was so much love and warmth being here Erica Benson - ebenson@shawmedia.com ... Q & A with the Hearing Doctor Awareness of Hearing Loss Q: Why is May Better Hearing & Speech month?
A: It is an event to promote awareness for hearing and hearing loss, which oten is referred to as the “invisible ailment”. Hearing loss is the second most common complaint Dr. Terri Lightbody of individuals above (630) 580-5777 the age of 50 behind arthritis. Hearing loss typically develops gradually over a period of years, therefore it isn’t an easily recognizable problem. Your hearing is vital is your overall well-being because it is the key link to connection to family, friends and co-workers. A hearing problem disrupts communication, stiling personal progress in various stages in life, educational, social and career achievements. In promoting awareness for healthy hearing, audiologists seek to help those who struggle with communication diiculties so that an individual may resume a normal social life. Without intervention, the efects of hearing loss are virtually pervasive in all aspects of life.
Some examples of problems that have been reported to arise from untreated hearing loss: •
Increased stress & anxiety
•
Insecurity
•
Social withdrawal & isolation
•
Depression
•
Inappropriate responses to questions
•
Decreased work performance
•
Memory issues and dementia
We know that those with even a mild hearing loss are twice as likely to develop dementia than those with normal range of hearing. With the sense of hearing impaired, the brain experiences lessened brain activity, which can lead to brain atrophy. he “use it or lose it” principle applies to hearing. It is our sense of hearing that provides that social connection to others. Is it time for you or someone you know to have a hearing evaluation?

Read to the Rhythm at Wheaton library Now’s the time to revel in OUR VIEW
nice weather, great events
In the depths of January’s icy freeze, no doubt many of us wondered why anyone would choose to live in such a frozen wasteland. In February and March, the mercury slowly climbed, but still our teeth chattered and our ice scrapers were required most mornings. Even April brought its share of unexpectedly cool weather. None of that matters now. Short-sleeve weather is here, and now we remember why we wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. As this year’s Memorial Day parades and cookouts recede from view, many of us are taking stock of what to do with the rest of the nice weather stretching out ahead. Maybe a trip to somewhere interesting, a visit to distant family or even a jaunt to a foreign nation. There’s an abundance of options. While you’re making out your list, don’t forget to factor in all the great local festivals and events right in our area. For instance, in the coming months you can look forward to: • Taste of Wheaton from June 4 to 7 • The Hinsdale Fine Arts Festival on June 13 and 14 • Rotary Grove Fest in Downers Grove from June 25 to 28 • FitzGerald’s American Music Festival from July 3 to 6 in Berwyn
Eileen Crowley is the head of Young Adult Services at Wheaton Public Library.

• Taste of Westmont from July 9 to 12 • West Chicago’s Railroad Days parade on July 12 • DuPage County Fair from July 22 to 26 You can find a lot more than these in our online calendar at planitlife.com. These are much more than backup plans for when your out-of-town plans fall through. Many of these events will draw folks from out of the area to our towns. It’s an opportunity for you to get out into your community, mingle with your neighbors, maybe stumble across some aspect of your own hometown that you’d never noticed before. And, incidentally, patronizing local events is a great way to vote with your dollars for local businesses and groups. Any time you can spend a few bucks locally, you’re helping to keep your local community vibrant and thriving. Just one more way it benefits you. By fall, the number of great events will begin to dwindle again, holidays aside. There will come a weekend when you’re stuck inside, listening to the winds howl, knowing that even if there was some great event going on somewhere, you’d rather not brave the elements. Don’t let yourself regret that you passed up a chance to take advantage while the weather was nice.

School will soon be out for the summer, which means plenty of time for reading. Although kids may be more interested in extra video game or playdate time, it’s important to encourage reading during the summer. Whether you call it summer slump, summer slide or summer setback, it’s real. “Experts agree that children who read during the COMMUNITY summer gain reading skills VOICE while those who do not often Eileen slide backward,” according to Crowley Reading is Fundamental. A 2010 study by Dominican University found the students that participated in their public library summer reading programs scored higher on standardized tests than those who did not participate. Fortunately, we have great things planned this summer at Wheaton Public Library. Our Read to the Rhythm Summer Reading Program encourages a love of reading, learning and music. The Teen SRP is open to those entering sixth through 12th grade, and online registration is open now. Children (birth through fifth grade) can pick up reading logs beginning June 13 in the Children’s Department. Don’t let the kids have all the fun! Online registration for our Adult SRP begins June 13 as well. During the next few weeks, I will be visiting the four District 200 middle schools and our children’s librarians will be visiting the elementary schools to talk about summer reading. We invite you to take a moment to ask your children about those school visits and plan a time (June 13 or after) to stop by the library to register for the SRPs together. Speaking of togetherness … Reading doesn’t have to be a solo activity. If you’re taking a road trip this summer, try listening to an audiobook together in the car. Hoopla Digital, our newest online offering, has audiobooks (and movies and music, too) that can be streamed or downloaded to a smartphone, tablet or laptop. What sets Hoopla apart from our other download services is there is no waiting and no holds. See something you want? It’s available right away after creating a free account with your WPL card number and PIN. Visit www.hoopladigital.com to get started. Take a look through our library newsletter (find one in your mail this week) for more info about Hoopla, the SRPs and the fabulous events we have planned for all ages this summer. In regard to the writer that wants to thank the College of DuPage trustees [Kim] Savage and [Nancy] Svoboda for the service to the College of DuPage, you must kidding! … These two were instrumental in creating the chaos currently taking place, which includes wasteful taxpayer money, embarrassing publicity, investigations into possible wasteful and illegal spending matters by the administration and the very board of trustees … they were part of. Not to mention patterns of behavior by the very president they chose and supported. May I suggest to anyone else that feels they need to thank these individuals and others who served on the board before this last election that they just fade away with their tails between their legs along with Mr. [Robert] Breuder.

First Division Museum explores ‘Five Years in the Jungle’

America’s experience fighting some 50 years ago in Vietnam wounded both our soldiers and the country as a whole. The healing process has been long, sometimes painful, and many still are suffering. While time can heal old wounds, remembering the past also serves to honor those who served. This summer, the First Division Museum at Cantigny Park in Wheaton honors those who served with a special exhibit of the U.S. Army’s 1st Infantry Division’s part in that not-solong-ago conflict. “This exhibit – ‘Five Years in the Jungle’ – is not to steer up sad memories but to honor those who served,” said Bill Brewster, the museum’s curator of collections. “We are not just telling the story of war but of the period in time both in the battle zone and at home, using music and various visuals.” While the entire museum tells the full history of the “Big Red One” (one of the nicknames of the First Divi-
sion), the special exhibit focuses on its involvement in Vietnam from July 12, 1965 – when the division first landed – through its redeployment stateside in January 1970. Brewster said the First Division – the oldest continuously serving division in the regular U.S. Army, organized in 1917 – said the greater majority of the pieces shown are of either Viet Cong (The Peoples Liberation Armed Forces) or regular North Vietnamese Army origin. “What pieces of U.S. memorabilia we are showing have been donated by veterans from around the country,” Brewster said. “Many of those Americans who returned from Vietnam just wanted to put that experience behind them. They didn’t want souvenirs to remind them.” Such was the case for Jim Thompson of Orland Park, who recently viewed the Cantigny exhibit. “I was a young lieutenant stationed in Hue near the border of North and
South Vietnam. Like so many of my fellow servicemen, all I wanted to do was to get home and start my life. I didn’t think of souvenirs.” But souvenirs there are. The exhibits include everything from weapons and uniforms to such items as cooking pots and books. Also, two interactive display boards feature photographs and music of that era. Two of the more interesting displays are toward the back of the exhibit hall. One is on the floor. A 30-by-30-foot map of South Vietnam that highlights all the important battles and bases that are part of the First Division’s history. “We commissioned a [6-by-6-foot] map detailing these pertinent points,” said Shane Keil, the museum’s collections manager. “Then it was blown up into the four-piece map you now see on the floor.” On the back wall is a photo taken from above a mountaintop of a helicopter landing zone on which an 800-foot long and 300-foot wide (at its widest) nu-
meral one was carved out of the jungle. “It was to signify that the First Division was on station,” Brewster said. Brewster believes he is more than just a collector of history but a storyteller. “We are telling this story, through the eyes of the First Division, of the sacrifices made by the men and women who lived and died while in Vietnam,” Brewster said. “Each item has a story, particularly those donated by [First Division] veterans. And if it gives those who visit some comfort, we have done our job.” While “Five Years in the Jungle” continues for the public through Nov. 1, 2015, the First Division Museum will host a national reunion of First Division Vietnam veterans this June. For more information about the exhibit or the reunion, contact the museum at 630-260-8185 or www.firstdivisionmuseum.org.

ransitioning to a senior living community can be filled with mixed emotions from everyone involved. You may have many questions. Is it really necessary at this time? Will we get the help and care from the staff when we need it? Will my loved one like the other residents and make new friends...? The answer to all these questions is yes. New friends are made all the time. We witness it every day here at Lexington Square. Most caring communities take time to ensure their caregivers are extremely helpful and at your service. It’s stressful and difficult for a love one to accept that they need more help with daily activities. They often feel a sense of loss. They’re experiencing loss of independence, loss of their home, and loss of the ability to perform basic tasks. It’s best to respect these new emotions, and be sympathetic to their situation. Fear of the unknown can intensify any other emotions they have. Over time, as they adjust, these emotions often turn to joy and excitement as they experience how beneficial community life can be. Discover more about what to expect during a transition and important questions to ask the communities you’re considering. We’ve put together a free guide called: “7 Questions to Ask When Screening Senior Living Communities - and Two Points to Consider Before Making Your Final Decision”. It’s an unbiased guide to help. Survey: For single women, 55 is the new 35 By Melissa Erickson More Content Now
F
orget the adage “Youth is wasted on the young”; today’s single, female baby boomers are happy, confident and healthy. Seventy-six percent of single women over 55 feel younger than their age, according a survey by retirement community homebuilder Del Webb. Seventy-four percent of respondents said they’re as happy, or happier, than they were at age 35, and nearly half (45 percent) believe their best years are yet to come. In fact, more than one in five (22 percent) say they feel more attractive than they did at 35. Highest obesity rates Recent data from the Trust for America’s Health showed that the baby boom generationis the most obese of any age group. According to the study, in 17 states more than 35 percent of boomers are obese, and in 41 states, more than 30 percent of boomers are obese. “While baby boomers are living longer these days, they may be living sicker,” said national health expert Dr. Lori Shemek. “Boomers’ attention to looks bypassed their attention to their weight’ leading to a generation that is living longer, but sicker.”
Eat more greens Something as easy as adding more greens to your diet could help slow cognitive decline and improve memory, according to new research. “With baby boomers approaching old age, there is huge public demand for lifestyle behaviors that can ward off loss of memory and other cognitive abilities with age,” said Martha Clare Morris, assistant provost for community research at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. “Our study provides evidence that eating green leafy vegetables and other foods rich in vitamin K, lutein and beta-carotene can help to keep the brain healthy to preserve functioning.” Reasons to not retire Baby boomers are changing retirement, according to a recent study by the Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies. Sixty-five percent of boomers plan to work past age 65 or do not plan to retire. Slightly more than half (52 percent) plan to continue working after they retire. Given widespread savings shortfalls, it is not surprising that 62 percent of the boomers surveyed who plan to work in retirement and/or past age 65 indicate that their main reason is income or health benefits. What is surprising is that 34 percent plan to work for enjoyment, including 18 percent who want to stay involved and 16 percent who enjoy what they do.

Rogan says that a common indication of hearing issues is when members of the family begin complaining. “Most people simply don’t know what they don’t hear,” Rogan says. “It’s important for people to not fear the screening process because early intervention always has a better outcome.” With a long history of helping others in the area Rogan looks to continue providing modern hearing solutions for the residents of the area. “I really like it here,” Rogan says. “I get a lot of enjoyment out of helping others improve their lives through our services.” The Susan Rogan Hearing centers are located at 419 N. La Grange Road, Suite 1, La Grange Park and 319 W. Ogden Ave., Westmont.
New Solutions to your Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy
Neuropathy Recovery I Workshop
FREE
f you suffer from a single one of these torturous symptoms- numbness, tingling, burning or sharp nerve pain, then read on. A new breakthrough treatment could change your life. Neuropathy can affect every part of your life - walking, sitting, sleeping, socializing, your ability to enjoy your relationships and so much more. If you have tired “everything” (Anodyne therapy, physical therapy, Lyrica, Neurotin or other meds) without getting the results you want then this may be the most important information that you ever read. There is a simple reason that most treatments fail, because at best they only cover up your symptoms and do not help your damaged nerves. Peripheral neuropathy is a condition that affects people in every walk of life. It is estimated that 20 million Americans and 60% of diabetics suffer from this disorder. There are many kinds of neuropathy, the symptoms of which include burning, tingling, weakness, numbness, paralysis, and dull to excruciating pain - especially in the hands and feet. Although many neuropathies have no known causes, neuropathy is often associated with other conditions. Examples are: Diabetes, shingles, toxins, autoimmune disorders, bulging discs that compress on nerves, spinal stenosis, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and poor nutrition. Statin drugs and chemotherapy can also cause neuropathy. For the last three years Dr. Susan Kelenyi, DC of Glen Ellyn, IL has worked extensively with peripheral neuropathy patients. Dr. Kelenyi describes peripheral neuropathy as damage to the nerves, which transmits information from the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body. “This can result in pain, loss of feeling, and inability to control muscles, such as difficulty with walking. As with any other condition, there is no “one size fits all” remedy for those suffering from neuropathies and treatment may vary depending on the cause and severity.” However, many individuals can and do find relief using natural remedies. And this is where Dr. Kelenyi steps in. Of the many causes of peripheral neuropathies”, says Dr. Kelenyi, “ a major one comes from a metabolic condition. You cannot drug your way out of a metabolic condition. It requires a change in lifestyle.” Dr. Kelenyi says, “Diet is crucial when addressing peripheral neuropathy, especially in diabetics and autoimmune disorders. Harmful foods to be avoided include alcohol, sugar, processed foods, fast foods, junk foods, sodas of all types, foods sprayed with pesticides, and trans-fatty acids. Sweeteners and additives contained in diet soda and processed foods such as MSG and aspartame can negatively impact the nervous system.” As a Board Eligible Chiropractic Neurologist, Dr. Kelenyi performs specific metabolic and neurologic tests to help determine what is causing the problem. There are a few primary types of neuropathies: Large or small diameter or both as well as motor. If jerking is involved then it can be as much a problem in the brain due to trans-neural degeneration as it is in the peripheral nerve. A thorough and comprehensive exam ensures an accurate diagnosis. Dr. Kelenyi states that her peripheral neuropathy recovery program is a combination of different cutting edge techniques and protocols. “We use revolutionary breakthrough protocols in the treatment of Peripheral Neuropathy… one of the therapies offered is Horizontal Therapy which is the latest, breakthrough in the science of electro-medicine and the most advanced and effective form of bioelectric treatment available to date. I’m very proud to be the first in the area to offer this to my patients ...pain management without drugs or surgery to get lasting results.” Additional therapies may include: oxygen, vibration, spinal decompression, cold laser therapy along with brain balance therapies to create a layered approach to “wake up” the nerves so they can function again and re-educate nerve pathways that have gone “hay-wire”. Dr. Kelenyi says, “Our solutions are non-drug, non-surgical approaches, that are researched based and based on prior clinical success. The reason we achieve excellent outcomes is because we take both a metabolic and neurological approach in our program.” She says it’s a very rewarding way of practicing. “We get chronically ill people coming from all over the Chicagoland area, even out of state, to our clinic. The most important thing for these patients is results. We get results.”
TUESDAY, JUNE 2ND AT 11:00AM
Ask yourself… • Has your condition affected every part of your life? • Have you tried “everything” (Anodyne therapy, physical therapy, Lyrica®, Neurotin®, or other medications) without getting the results you want? • Do you suffer with other secondary symptoms such as falling, dexterity, muscle atrophy, etc.? • Would you rather ix the underlying problem rather than cover it up with drugs?
Topics to be discussed • What is and what are the main causes for Peripheral Neuropathy • Diabetes & Peripheral Neuropathy • If you are taking “statin” drugs - what your doctor doesn’t tell you could hurt you • If your nerves are damaged what does that mean for the rest of your body • Why your lab results do not tell the whole story • How you can live pain free with a clinically proven program
RSVP Required. Seating is Limited. Call

GAME REPORT RED STARS VS. FC KANSAS CITY SAT. MAY 23
RED STARS: 2
KANSAS CITY: 1
Copyright Daniel Bartel
Red Stars Roll on in 2-1 Away Win over Defending Champs Chicago, Illinois – The NWSL-leading Chicago Red Stars remained undefeated against defending champions FC Kansas City on Saturday, bagging a 2-1 away win in the highly-anticipated blockbuster clash of the weekend. Sofia Huerta scored in her third consecutive match and defender Taryn Hemmings had the late game-winner for the visitors in meeting that had been delayed due to inclement weather and was played in pouring rain that didn’t let up at any point during the 90 minutes. Chicago nearly conceded a goal in the 7th minute, as shot-stopper Michele Dalton breathed a sigh of relief after being pressured by Sarah Hagen and attempting a clearance that bounced off the FCKC forward and rolled just wide of the right post. The Red Stars created their first quality chance in the 32nd minute. With a defender wrestling her for the ball, Arin Gilliland managed to sprint to the by-line and send in a low cross that was touched on frame by Jen Hoy and parried wide by goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart. Chicago would get on the board mere moments later, Vanessa DiBernardo swinging in a corner kick from the right that would see the 23-yearold earn her league-leading fourth assist. The ball was met inside the penalty are by rookie Huerta, who redirected it through traffic and inside the left post courtesy of an exquisite touch with her right foot. Huerta’s fifth strike of the season sent the reigning NWSL Player of the Week to the top of the NWSL goal-scoring charts, where she is tied with Washington’s Crystal Dunn. Home side Kansas City had a promising opportunity of its own in the closing stages, as a long ball long through ball released Hagen and the forward released a powerful, right-footed attempt from the top of the box that whistled wide of the far post. U.S. international Hagen continued to threaten
after the break, making a strong near-post run in the 52nd minute to get her foot on a cross from the right flank, only to see her redirect roll trickle just wide of the left post. Kansas City kept up the pressure and could have scored on either of a pair of 56th-minute cornes, the second of which saw Hagen smash the ball dangerously over the bar on a close-range volley at the far post. FCKC finally drew level in the 68th minute, Erika Tymrak sending in another corner from the left and fellow U.S. international Amy LePeilbet back-tracking to head the ball down and past surprised goalkeeper Dalton for a well-taken goal. The Red Stars showed a strong response to the equalizer, as Head Coach Rory Dames’ managed to keep their mighty opponents from taking control of the match and pushing for the lead. Instead, defender Hemmings gave Chicago all three points by nodding home the rebound following a Danielle Colaprico corner kick from the left and a header by center back Michelle Lomnicki that had been tipped against the post by netminder Barnhart. Kansas City’s only quality look in the closing stages was a Yael Averbuch rocket on a free-kick from 35 yards out, the Red Stars’ Dalton doing well to leave her feet and tip the ball over the frame. It would be the game’s final chance, as the visitors subsequently slowed down the pace and held on to a crucial victory that saw them increase their lead at the top of the NWSL standings. The Chicago Red Stars look to remain unbeaten through seven regular season games when they travel to take on current Shield holders Seattle Reign FC on Saturday, May 30. The club’s next home match is on June 20 against Washington Spirit. Single-game and season tickets for the 2015 campaign may be purchased by visiting www.chicagoredstars.com or by calling 773-698-6001.

Tiger trio takes home state medals By SCOTT SCHMID sschmid@shawmedia.com CHARLESTON – Naomi Yamane made her first trip to the IHSA state track meet count in a big way May 23 as the Wheaton Warrenville South senior brought home a medal. Yamane was one of three Tigers to stand on the award stand after placing ninth in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 6.5 inches. “It’s amazing,” Yamane said. “It was great for me to experience the state meet at least once in my life. That was my goal since freshman year. Being with the best of Illinois is definitely a confidence booster, too, because some of these girls throw 40 feet and I would never thought I would be competing with them on the same day.” Teammate Hannah Kats also advanced to the final flight of the shot put and finished 11th with a distance of 394. Having Kats there helped Yamane. “It helped a lot because it was the same routine, especially because I had my own teammate there,” said Yamane, who also participated in the prelims of the discus. “It made me feel a lot more comfortable. I know a lot of the girls from other meets, too, but having someone I’ve known since kindergarten really helps. We were in the same kindergarten class so we’ve known each other for a really long time.” Alexandra Enright came in sixth in the high jump after clearing 5-5 for her state medal. “I tied my [personal record] for my high school season,” said Enright, who also had a time of 46.52 in the prelims of the 300-meter hurdles. “Over the summer I was two inches higher, but I was still satisfied with [state]. I was in the gray area [of medaling], where it was if I have a good day I will, but if I don’t, I don’t. Going into it I was a little nervous, but I like the result for sure.” Heidi Nassos also medaled after a fourth-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 11-9. In addition, Nassos competed in the prelims of the triple jump and posted a mark of 35-4. The 4x800 relay team of Sara Atkins, Emma Schroer, Stephanie Gorski and Kendall Laveen took part in the preliminaries May 22, posting a time of

WHEATON – The motto throughout the spring for the Wheaton North girls soccer team has been ‘all-in.’ Those words certainly rang true in the Falcons’ 4-0 victory against Wheaton Warrenville South on May 22. Receiving goals from four different players, to go along with a splendid defensive effort, the squad added a Class 3A regional title to go with their DuPage Valley Conference championship. “It was every single player,” said Lexi Pelafas, the leading goal scorer for the season who made the score 3-0 in the second half with a breakaway goal. “Everybody was all-in together. We didn’t come in nervous, we were playing like it was a regular game. That was the difference and we’ve improved so much since we played them [a 2-1 Falcons win in early April].” Hannah Atkinson opened the scoring nearly halfway through the first half before Margaret Hupp converted a rebound that bounced off the crossbar to make the score 2-0 with 10 minutes left before intermission. After Pelafas found the back of the net 10 minutes into the second half, Maggie Liechty closed out the scoring with a shot from 25 yards out. “One of the things we started tracking [earlier in the season] was winning balls in the air and winning 50-50 balls,” Wheaton North coach Tim McEvilly said. “From the opening whistle, we did a great job of challenging every ball. You have to dedicate yourself to making things difficult for the opposition and that pressure helped create chances for us.” The win was the 16th of the season for Wheaton North. “The game wasn’t about playing South,” McEvilly said. “The game was about winning a regional championship and putting another exclamation point on what has been a great year.” The Falcons were scheduled to take on St. Charles North on May 27 in a Schaumburg sectional semifinal. The winner will take on St.

The squad loses five seniors in AJ Jakuszewski, Tori Adomshick, Maya Giaquinta, Rachel Conrady and Nikki Molino. “I’m very proud of them,” coach Guy Callipari said. “They overcame a lot of adversity and in the
last seven or eight games, they really came to find out who we were. “Four of our five seniors played all four years [on the varsity] and they’ve represented themselves so well,” Callipari said. “You look at a kid like AJ [Jakuszewski], she didn’t need to play high school soccer but wanted to be a part of a family and everything associated with that. They’ve done every-
thing we asked them to do.”
St. Francis The Spartans captured the Class 2A De La Salle regional title with a 6-1 victory against the host school May 22. Kendra Pasquale scored a pair of goals while Kate LeMantia, Kaitlyn Joniak, Claire Hensley and Alexis Preusser also found the back of the net.

Village of Glen Ellyn DuPage County, Illinois Hill Avenue over East Branch DuPage River Section No.: 10-00154-00-BR On January 29 2015, the Illinois Department of Transportation (DOT), Bureau of Local Roads and Streets approved the design for the Hill Avenue Bridge over the East Branch DuPage River improvements as presented in the Project Development Report prepared by Bollinger, Lach & Associates. This project consists of the removal of the old two span bridge which was originally constructed in 1956 and the construction of a new three span bridge at the same location due to the existing structure being considered structurally deficient. The proposed structure will provide for 12’ lanes in each direction with a 3’ shoulder on both sides of the bridge. The profile of the bridge will be raised approximately 2.5’ at the bridge to avoid adverse hydraulic impacts to surrounding properties. The Hill Avenue bridge will be closed during construction and traffic detoured for the duration of the project, which is anticipated to begin in 2016 with traffic tentatively detoured along Crescent Boulevard. The Project Development Report and other documents pertinent to the design of the project are available for inspection, review, and copying (at requestor’s expense) at the Village of Lombard.
