with a season of Shakespeare’s most popular plays, featuring beloved romances, iconic heroines and an award-winning new play with a Shakespearean twist. The summer season begins with “Twelfth Night,” the comedy about thorny love triangles, mistaken identities and a pair of twins lost at sea. Opening indoors in the Paseo Arts District Theatre on February 7, the show centers around how love is blind, said Executive/ Artistic Director Kathryn McGill who is set to direct. “I love this play; it’s one of my favorites in the canon because of the music, the games and the comedy but also the gentle discussions about love,” said McGill. The season opener will also feature original live music from Stephen Hilton and Kaleb Michael Bruza. The cast features Greg White* as Malvolio, Jessa Schinske as Viola, Stephen Hilton as Sir Toby, Jordan Nicholes as Orsino, Sarah Lomize as Olivia, Kaleb Michael Bruza as Feste, Nicholas Sumpter as Andrew Aguecheek, Lindsay Rollins as Maria and Onnika Hanson as Antonia. “Twelfth Night” is recommended for audiences 8 and older.

Movies OPENING This
Weekend in Shawnee! "THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING" Old school magic
meets the modern world in this epic adventure. Alex (Louis Ashbourne Serkis) thinks he's just another nobody, until he stumbles upon the mythical sword in the stone, Excalibur. Now, he must unite his friends and enemies into a band of knights and, together with the legendary wizard Merlin (Sir Patrick Stewart), take on the wicked enchantress Morgana (Rebecca Ferguson). With the future at stake, Alex must become the great leader he never dreamed he could be. (Rated PG for fantasy action violence, scary images, thematic elements including some bullying, and language). (2:09). OPENS FRIDAY, JANUARY 25 AT THE CINEMA CENTRE 8.
"SERENITY"
Baker Dill (Matthew McConaughey) is a fishing boat captain leading tours off a tranquil, tropical enclave called Plymouth Island. His quiet life is shattered, however, when his ex-wife Karen (Anne Hathaway) tracks him down with a desperate plea for help. She begs Dill to save her - and their young son - from her new, violent husband (Jason Clarke) by taking him out to sea on a fishing excursion, only to throw him to the sharks and leave him for dead. Karen's appearance thrusts Dill back into a life he'd tried to forget, and as he struggles between right and wrong, his world is plunged into a new reality that may not be all that it seems. (Rated R for language throughout, sexual content, and some bloody images). (1:46) OPENS FRIDAY, JANUARY 25 AT MOVIES SIX AT SHAWNEE MALL.
"ON THE BASIS OF SEX"
The true story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, her struggles for equal rights, and the early cases of a historic career that lead to her nomination and confirmation as U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice. The biographical drama stars Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer. (Rated PG-13 for some language and suggestive content), (2:00) OPENS FRIDAY, JANUARY 25 AT THE CINEMA CENTRE 8.
"THE FAVOURITE"
Early 18th century. England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne's ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen's companion. Their burgeoning friendship gives her a chance to fulfill her ambitions and she will not let woman, man, politics or rabbit stand in her way. The period comedy drama was nominated for 5 Academy Awards including "Best Picture". (Rated R for strong sexual content, nudity and language). (1:59) OPENS FRIDAY, JANUARY 25 AT THE CINEMA CENTRE 8.
"THE GRINCH" Based on Dr. Seuss' beloved holiday classic.
The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl's generous holiday spirit. Funny, heartwarming, and visually stunning, it's a universal story about the spirit of Christmas and the indomitable power of optimism. Academy Award® nominee Benedict Cumberbatch lends his voice to the infamous Grinch, who lives a solitary life inside a cave on Mt. Crumpet with only his loyal dog, Max, for company. With a cave rigged with inventions and contraptions for his day-to-day needs, the Grinch only sees his neighbors in Whoville when he runs out of food. Each year at Christmas they disrupt his tranquil solitude with their increasingly bigger, brighter, and louder celebration. Featuring the voices of Benedict Cumberbatch and Angela Lansbury. (Rated PG for brief rude humor). (1:26) OPENS FRIDAY, JANUARY 25 AT THE HORNBECK THEATRE DOWNTOWN.
"THE LEAST OF THESE" As the social fabric of life in
rural India disintegrates in the late 1990s, journalist Manav Banerjee (Sharman Joshi) moves with his pregnant wife to the town of Orissa in hope of a better life and the promise of a lucrative career. When speculation mounts that local Australian missionary Graham Staines (Stephen Baldwin) is illegally proselytizing leprosy patients, Manav agrees to investigate undercover for the newspaper. What he finds is a series of revelations that are difficult to fathom and even harder to explain, and Manav is forced to make a choice between his own ambition and the truth. In the end, his actions spark a tragic event that is felt around the world. Based on a true story and shot on location in India, "The Least of These" beautifully illustrates the power of love, hope and forgiveness to overcome hate. (Rated PG-13 for thematic elements/disturbing images), (1:52) EXCLUSIVE SNEAK PEEK THURSDAY, JANUARY 31 AT 7PM AT THE CINEMA CENTRE 8.
"DRAGON BALL SUPER: BROLY" Goku and
Vegeta encounter Broly, a Saiyan warrior unlike any fighter they’ve faced before in this Japanese made animated action fantasy. (Rated PG for prolonged frenetic sequences of action and violence and for language). (1:40) FRIDAY, JANUARY 25 ONLY AT THE CINEMA CENTRE 8.
ALSO RETURNING FRIDAY, JANUARY 25 AT MOVIES SIX AT SHAWNEE MALL Three “Best Picture” Oscar Nominees: “A STAR IS BORN” (R) (2:16) Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga. “VICE” (R) (2:12), Christian Bale, Amy Adams. “BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY” (PG-13) (2:14) Rami Malek.

“Ansel Adams and the Photographers of the West” opens February 1 at OKCMOA OKLAHOMA CITY - Through 46 richly detailed prints, “Ansel Adams and the Photographers of the West” tells the story of one of America’s most influential and well-known photographers who spent his life capturing the beauty of the West. His style and passion influenced both his contemporaries and the following generation of photographers, 12 of which – including Edward Weston, Brett Weston, Eliot Porter and Laura Gilpin – are featured in this exhibition. “Presenting the wilderness of the West as a place to protect in all its beauty, Adams was the visual artist who pioneered what is now known as the modern environmental movement,” said Francesca Giani, curator of modern and contemporary art. “Adams saw the American wilderness as a remedy to the chaos of urban life. He relied on photography to depict well-frequented tourist areas as pristine wildernesses, to be protected for the benefit of humanity. He also played an important role in the growth of the Sierra Club and led numerous campaigns, lobbying tirelessly for the protection of the environment.” The artists featured in this exhibition followed Adams’ example and developed personal bonds with America’s wild places. Each relied on photography to convey a distinct vision of the land. Their work showcases the natural beauty of our nation’s parks and nature captured throughout California, Washington, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona. The exhibition features seven gelatin silver prints by Adams, including favorites “Moon and Half Dome,” “Mount Williamson, Sierra Nevada, from
Manzanar, California” and “El Capitan, Winter Sunrise, Yosemite National Park, California.” Additionally, the show includes a significant portion of Brett Weston’s “White Sands” portfolio and Porter’s “Glen Canyon” portfolio. “Ansel Adams and the Photographers of the West” will be open on the second floor of the Museum through May 26. The Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Public tours will be offered Feb. 10, March 16, April 18 and May 12. The February and March tours have already sold out. Pre-registration for the April and May tours is recommended. The exhibition also serves as inspiration for the Museum’s April Third Thursday event, Black & White, on April 18, from 5 to 9 p.m. About the Oklahoma City Museum of Art
