Podcasts to Listen To: Backstory and the best storytelling podcasts to listen to In the coming months, many people will be hitting the road or taking to the air to join family and friends for the holidays. Although there will be plenty of excitement at the thought of spending quality time with the ones we love, getting from point A to point B can be an arduous task. To help you pass the time in between the miles you might be traveling this holiday season, here are a few storytelling podcasts to listen to.

"A PRIVATE WAR"
In a world where journalism is under attack, Marie Colvin (Rosamund Pike) is one of the most celebrated war correspondents of our time. Colvin is an utterly fearless and rebellious spirit, driven to the frontlines of conflicts across the globe to give voice to the voiceless, while constantly testing the limits between bravery and bravado. After being hit by a grenade in Sri Lanka, she wears a distinctive eye patch and is still as comfortable sipping martinis with London's elite as she is confronting dictators. Colvin sacrifices loving relationships, and over time, her personal life starts to unravel as the trauma she's witnessed takes its toll. Yet, her mission to show the true cost of war leads her -- along with renowned war photographer Paul Conroy (Jamie Dornan) -- to embark on the most dangerous assignment of their lives in the besieged Syrian city of Homs. (Rated R for disturbing violent images, language throughout, and brief sexuality/nudity), (1:50) OPENS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16 AT THE CINEMA CENTRE 8.
"INSTANT FAMILY" A couple find themselves in over their heads when
they adopt three children. Mark Walberg and Rose Byrne star in the comedy/drama. (Rated PG-13 for thematic elements, sexual material, language and some drug references). (1:59) OPENS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16 AT THE CINEMA CENTRE 8.
"WIDOWS"
"Widows" is the story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands' criminal activities. Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica (Viola Davis), Alice (Elizabeth Debicki), Linda (Michelle Rodriguez) and Belle (Cynthia Erivo) take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms. (Rated R for violence, language throughout, and some sexual content/nudity). (2:09) OPENS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16 AT MOVIES SIX AT SHAWNEE MALL.
"THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS"
“THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS”: Lewis Barnavelt, after losing his parents, is sent to Michigan to live with his uncle Jonathan. He discovers his uncle is a warlock, and enters a world of magic and sorcery. But this power is not limited to good people: Lewis learns of Isaac Izard, an evil wizard who constructed a magical clock with black magic, as long as it exists it will keep ticking, counting down to doomsday. He died before he could finish the clock, but he hid the clock in his house, where Uncle Jonathan now lives. Now Lewis and Jonathan must find the clock before it finishes its countdown and ends the world. Jack Black and Cate Blanchette star in the comedy fantasy adventure. (Rated PG for thematic elements including sorcery, some action, scary images, rude humor and language). (1:45) OPENS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16 AT THE HORNBECK THEATRE DOWNTOWN.

Downtown in December Kicks Off with Bricktown Tree Lighting Festival Presented by SONIC (OKLAHOMA CITY) – Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership will host the 17th annual Bricktown Tree Lighting Festival presented by SONIC, America’s Drive-In on Friday, Nov. 23 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the Third Base Plaza at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, 2 S. Mickey Mantle Dr. The event serves as the official kickoff to the holiday season and Downtown in December, as Mayor David Holt lights the Christmas Tree with Santa Claus. The Tree Lighting Festival has continued to grow each year since 2002. One of the year’s most anticipated annual events, the Bricktown Tree Lighting Festival, will showcase a variety of local performers, food trucks, face painting and visits with Old Saint Nick. “This year’s Tree Lighting Festival is a special one because it’s Mayor Holt’s first time lighting the tree as mayor and we have more on-stage performers than ever before,” said Jill DeLozier, Vice President of Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership. “We love creating events and spaces where people gather to make memories, take photos, and enjoy the seasonal activities downtown.” Lyric Theatre’s cast from “A Christmas Carol” will open the show by singing carols, followed by a student from the Lyric Theatre Academy to sing an Oklahoma-favorite, “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.” New this year, the East Asian Sainrithya Dance Academy will be performing two dances. The Kalakshetra dance form was founded by Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale in Adyar, Chennai in 1936. This style of dance is noted for its highly intricate and complex footwork along with angular, straight, and ballet-like kinesthetics. Oklahoma native, community leader and hip-hop artist Jabee Williams will make a special appearance to perform a short holiday-themed set before Mayor Holt takes the stage at 6:00 p.m. to light the Christmas Tree. Singer songwriters Maggie McClure and Shane Henry of the Imaginaries will perform holiday music as attendees enjoy free activities around the beautifully illuminated Christmas Tree. Junction Coffee and Hijos Taqueria will on site for guests to purchase food, coffee and hot cocoa during the event, and Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse will be giving away complimentary holiday treats. The Bricktown Tree Lighting Festival presented by SONIC is free and open to the public thanks to the generous support from SONIC, America’s Drive-in. "We are delighted to sponsor the Bricktown Tree Lighting for the third year," said Christi Woodworth, Vice President of Public Relations for
SONIC. "We love inviting the entire community to our neighborhood, Bricktown, to officially kick off the holiday season." This event is also sponsored by JE Dunn Construction and Tinker Federal Credit Union. For more information and a full list of events happening during Downtown in December, visit www.DowntownInDecember.com. The Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership (DOKC) is a non-profit organization that promotes and markets downtown Oklahoma City in conjunction with numerous downtown stakeholders. DOKC also manages the downtown Business Improvement District, funds public art projects and hosts more than 20 annual community events. For more information, visit DowntownOKC.com.
