OKM Music Announces its 35th Anniversary Festival After launching its 2019 season on-line last week, the OKM Music Festival is officially announcing its 35th Anniversary Festival. One of Oklahoma’s long-running music festivals is celebrating its 35th anniversary this summer, and organizers have been preparing a very special festival from June 8-14. The entire family is invited to enjoy a free street party to kick off the festival, a Concert Under the Stars, a Bluegrass evening, a wonderful Classical Series and the beloved Woolaroc Concert. ‘RED DIRT DINOS’ ROAR INTO SCIENCE MUSEUM OKLAHOMA Dinosaurs that once roamed the state’s landscape are roaring into Science Museum Oklahoma this spring as “Red Dirt Dinos: An Oklahoma Dinosaur Adventure” returns to Oklahoma City. The region’s largest Cretaceous carnivore and an herbivore that called southeastern Oklahoma’s Atoka County home are among the animatronic dinosaurs at the center of “Red Dirt Dinos: An Oklahoma Dinosaur Adventure,” now open at SMO. Created exclusively for the Science Museum Oklahoma-based Oklahoma Museum Network, the exhibit features three interactive, lifelike robotic dinosaurs and a variety of hands-on components that help visitors better understand some of the giant creatures that called Oklahoma’s red dirt landscape home. The exhibit is returning to SMO after stops at each of the museums in the statewide Oklahoma Museum Network. “The Red Dirt Dinos are a favorite among our guests — we’re excited to have them back on our stomping grounds here at SMO,” said Sherry Marshall, president and CEO of Science Museum Oklahoma. The exhibition features three dinosaurs: Acrocanthosaurus, a carnivore and the official dinosaur of the state of Oklahoma; Tenontosaurus, a long-

tailed herbivore; and one of its predators, Deinonychus, a carnivore with sickle-shaped, switchblade-like claws. “The dinosaurs operate using infrared technology — they can detect movement of people in the exhibit and even distinguish between children and adults. They not only react to visitors but also to other dinosaurs within the exhibit — it creates an awesome, immersive experience,” added Marshall. In addition to the dinosaurs, “Red Dirt Dinos” features a hands-on excavation site, a paleontologist’s tent and archaeology tools, a dinosaur egg scanner, a giant crawl-through log, and lifesize replicas of the skull and skeleton of the Acrocanthosaurus and Velociraptor. “Red Dirt Dinos: An Oklahoma Dinosaur Adventure” will be on display at SMO through Labor Day. The exhibit is included with general admission. Science Museum Oklahoma is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Daily general admission for Science Museum Oklahoma is $15.95 for adults (ages 13 to 64) and $12.95 for children (ages 3 to 12) and seniors (65 and older). Annual memberships begin at $105. For more information about Science Museum Oklahoma, call 405-602-6664 or visit www.sciencemuseumok.org.

Gene ‘Iron Man’ Smith to present his passion at Artesian Arts Festival Native American artist Gene “Iron Man” Smith says patrons who purchase art are getting much more than the piece that persuaded them to open their pocketbooks. “When you buy a piece of art, you’re buying that person, you’re buying their mind, their passion, their blood, sweat and tears,” Smith said. Smith, based in Norman, Oklahoma, is a metal artist whose creations can weigh over 500 pounds. His “brushes” are a cutting torch, welding machine, rubber mallet, hammer and anvil. When he references “blood, sweat and tears” going into his sculptures, he means it. “It’s tedious and hard on the hands,” he said. “My art is cut, curved, convex and concave. I don’t like anything straight because that’s too easy. I’ll beat on a piece of metal and curve it and shape it until it’s to the form I want.” Smith will be joining over 100 other Native American artists showing their works at the 2019 Artesian Arts Festival in downtown Sulphur, Oklahoma, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, May 25. Smith’s full size horse sculpture medaled at the 2018 Artesian Arts Festival. This year he is working feverishly to complete “Rain Dance,” a life-sized running warhorse complete with war party symbols and carrying an 8-foot spear and a war shield. Realism in presentation is always his goal. “I like for my creations to look realistic,” he said. “I like it where you can’t see a weld, where it’s smoothed out. It takes a little bit more time and effort, but that’s the point I try to get to. I like that challenge.” Another challenge is squeezing enough hours out of each day to work on his projects. Smith currently works fulltime at Haliburton in

Duncan, Oklahoma, as a welder. “My day starts at 2:30 in the morning and sometimes ends at 11:30 at night,” he said. “My art project time is after I get home from work. I’ll work for an hour or hour-and-ahalf and by that time it’s 9:3010:00, time to shower and get to bed.” His first piece was a flower made from material used in chain link fences. His wife loved it and then one of her co-workers wanted one. Soon he was creating different kinds of Native American art which sold almost as fast as he could make them. The Sulphur, Oklahoma, native says his heritage is half Dakota-Sioux and half Choctaw. Along with Smith’s art, numerous other Native American cultures will be displayed through a diverse array of art media. More than 21 art disciplines will be represented at the 2019 Artesian Arts Festival. These include paintings, basketry, jewelry, sculpture, metalwork, beadwork and textiles. Various art demonstrations and/or discussions will take place within the ARTesian Gallery & Studios. These will include such famed artists as Oklahoma and Chickasaw Hall of Fame inductee Mike Larsen. Entertainment provided at no charge during the Artesian Arts Festival will include a children’s tent for make-and-take items and a senior arts and crafts area with several offerings from elder artists. Two stages will provide a venue for live performances. Opening ceremonies will include a demonstration by the Chickasaw Nation Dance

Troupe, with other tribal dance troupes performing throughout the day. More than 15 food vendors will offer varied culinary delights. Shuttles will be available to transport patrons to and from the Chickasaw Cultural Center. Oklahoma Shakespeare Continues the 2019 Season with The Comedy of Errors Laughter will ring out under the stars as Shakespeare’s hilarious tale of mistaken identity takes the outdoor stage in June with “The Comedy of Errors” directed by D. Lance Marsh. A young man and his servant arrive in town, unaware that each of them has a separated-at-birth identical twin already there. This can’t end well—or maybe it can, but not before the unexpected double vision leads to furious wives, confused mistresses, scandalized family members, and general mayhem. This production is "family friendly" and parents are encouraged to bring children 8 years and up to experience their first taste of Shakespeare. Portraying the very confused sets of twins are Jordan Nicholes as Dromio of Syracuse and Tyler Malinauskus as Dromio of Ephasus, Sam Pinson as Antipholus of Syracuse and Dustin Dale Barlow as Antipholus of Ephasus. The cast also features Rachel Ryan Nicholes as Adriana, Rachel Necessary as Luciana, Mark Johnson as Duke Solinus, David Pasto as Egeon, Jenna Mazzaccolli as Courtesan and Alison Gregory as Emilia and Doctor Pinch.

This year in honor of our 35th anniversary season, every child 12 and under will be admitted absolutely free alongside an adult ticket-buyer, to see Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors at the beautiful Myriad Gardens Water Stage in downtown Oklahoma City. Single ticket prices are $20 for adults with discounts available for groups of 10 or more, seniors, students, military, and educators. Tickets are available at www.okshakes.org or by calling 1 (800) 838-3006.

His closest friends and fellow actors deeply miss him and his beautiful plays. When a pirated, badly botched Hamlet (“To be or not to be, there’s the point . . .”) plays on a nearby stage, they realize Shakespeare’s lines are disappearing into the forgetful memory of time. What they need is a book—a definitive copy of his original plays, but to make one, they’ll have to battle an unscrupulous publisher, a boozy poet laureate and their own mortality. Lauren Gunderson’s look at Shakespeare’s First Folio is a lively, funny, poignant love letter to theatre and the printed word. Winner of the 2018 Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award

When a sail appears on the horizon, he reaches out across the ocean to the ship that carries the men who wronged him. Creating a vast magical storm he wrecks the ship and washes his enemies up on the shore. When they wake they find themselves lost on a fantastical island where nothing is as it seems.

Two sets of twins, each with the same name—what could go wrong? Everything, apparently. Leave logic behind and delight in the confusion of Shakespeare’s beloved comedy, where servants misplace their masters, wives overlook their husbands, and sons forget their fathers. The blunders double, triple and cube until chaos reigns—and everyone is pretty sure that everyone else is completely insane. It's amazing the hilarious havoc two sets of twins can unleash on an unsuspecting town.

Join us for a celebration of the life and love of Jane Austen, as seen through the eyes of her most beloved characters, this Holiday season! Dance, sing, and eat sweet treats among a wonderful cast of characters decked out in their finery for the Christmas holidays. Celebrate and play along as you witness her most famous love stories come to life before your eyes. Bring your dancing shoes and dress in your best, or just come as you are and enjoy the show.
