Artesian Arts Festival Set May 26 in Sulphur Native Art Highlighted at 5th Annual Event
Sulphur, Oklahoma – More than 100 prominent artists representing Native American tribes throughout the United States will be featured during the Artesian Arts Festival, Saturday, May 26. Hosted by the Chickasaw Nation at the Artesian Plaza, activities begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m. The Artesian Arts Festival has continued to expand each year since its 2014 inaugural year, to become one of the fastest growing Native American art markets in the United States. A celebration of all types of art, with an emphasis on Native American art and artists, the Artesian Arts Festival features diverse art media and a variety of visual art including paintings, basketry, jewelry, sculpture, metalworking, bead work, textiles and pottery. Open to artists from all federally recognized tribes, 110 Native artists selected for the juried show will compete in as many as 21 categories. Shawnee’s Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center (Shawnee, Okla.) – The Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center is excited to welcome both new and annual events to the community this May. There are several unique events and family-friendly entertainment opportunities to enjoy.

Outlaw Motor Sports is kicking off their summer dirt kart racing series Saturday, May 5 and will also race on May 12. Gates will open at 10 a.m. General admission is $10 for adults, $6 for children ages 6-12 and admission is free for children age 5 and under. Races will begin at 11 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m. The Shawnee Oklahoma Rotary Club will hold their 4th annual Lobster and Leis fundraiser May 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. Funds raised from the event will support the Shawnee Rotary’s education, literacy and leadership programs as well as scholarships. Event attendees will enjoy a lobster boil, pulled pork, assorted sides, dessert and an open bar. The event will also feature a photo booth, games, dancing and music provided by a DJ. The Expo Center will welcome a Cat Show May 26-27 hosted by the MuskogeeCats Cat Club. The public is invited to enter their cats prior to the event no later than 6 p.m. on May 21. Entry fees do apply and can be found on The Cat Fan-
