Bricktown Beach Returns for Its Third Season River Spirit Casino (OKLAHOMA CITY) – After another successful season, Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership (DOKC) and The Bricktown Association, with the help of JE Dunn Construction Group, are bringing back the Bricktown Beach for its third year. The temporary summer attraction is located on the Third Base Plaza at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in downtown Oklahoma City. Construction is complete, and the beach will open May 24. Like the past two years, the project will include a pop-up beach with over 150 tons of sand complete with umbrellas, lounge chairs, sand volleyball equipment, and outdoor games. There will be additional seating on the perimeter of the volleyball court and a small boardwalk through the beach itself. A new addition this year is a “Beach Hut” that will be staffed by Downtown Guides, who will check out game equipment and be there to help visitors with any questions they might have about the beach. The Bricktown Beach is a community effort to activate an underutilized space in the heart of Oklahoma’s original entertainment district, and it will be a place to play, relax and connect with others. The Bricktown Beach will create a new purpose for the space and make it more useable for downtown residents, visitors, and employees. “The Bricktown Beach has turned into one of the district’s signature placemaking activities, and it brings lots of different types of people at all times of day to the space. We are already receiving calls about when it will open this year, if the beach can be used for private parties, and more. The public has really embraced the idea of
taking underutilized public spaces and turning them into something cool, even if its temporary, and we love to see that,” said Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership’s Vice President, Jill DeLozier. “The OKC Dodgers are excited to continue partnering with Downtown Oklahoma City on this fun and unique addition to Bricktown for the summer. We are always looking for creative ways to make the ballpark a destination and this DOKC program does just that,” said Jenna Byrnes, Senior Vice President of the Oklahoma City Dodgers Baseball. Founded in 1924, JE Dunn Construction Group has its Oklahoma City office in Bricktown. Jeff Napoliello, Director of Business Development at JE Dunn, has made community engagement a high priority for JE Dunn. “JE Dunn looks forward to annually collaborating with Downtown OKC and the OKC Dodgers on the design and construction of the Bricktown Beach. As it heads into its third year, it’s been fun watching how the beach has grown in popularity, as the community really supports this unique placemaking venue in the heart of Bricktown,” said Napoliello. The Bricktown Beach is open through the end of August. On
Thursday, May 24 the Big 12 Baseball Tournament will be hosting a Tailgating Party at the Bricktown Beach. Guests can mark their calendars for July 20 at 8:00 p.m. for the Concert at the Bricktown Beach featuring My So Called Band. Both events are free and open to the public. The Concert at the Bricktown Beach is sponsored by the Oklahoma City Dodgers and Brewer Entertainment. “One of the best things about the Bricktown Beach is that visitors can make the space their own,” said Mallory O’Neill, Director of District Management for Downtown OKC Partnership. “People play volleyball, board games, and cornhole, and others come just to relax with their families and friends. It’s so fun to see kids playing in the sand and people lounging in hammocks and moving chairs for conversation groups. It’s exactly what we were hoping for.” The Bricktown Beach is free to enter and is open to the public 24 hours a day, courtesy of the Downtown Business Improvement District and The Bricktown Association, and is sponsored by JE Dunn Construction Group, the Oklahoma City Dodgers, and the City of Oklahoma City. For more information, contact Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership at (405) 235-3500 or visit www.DowntownOKC.com. Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership (DOKC) is a non-profit organization that cleans, protects, promotes and markets downtown Oklahoma City locally and regionally in conjunction with numerous downtown stakeholders. DOKC also manages the Downtown Business Improvement District, funds and creates public art projects, and holds annual events. For more information, visit www.DowntownOKC.com.
