How to Choose A Foundation Repair Company After “location, location, location” the element a home is most in need of is a foundation. For without a strong and solid foundation, you don’t have a home. It is truly the basis for all that is your home. So when your foundation needs repair, it is essential that you choose an experienced, high-quality contractor to get the job done right. Your foundation may consist of cement blocks or granite slabs depending on the location and time your home was built. More modern foundations consist of a poured concrete slab. The structure of your foundation and the type of work required will determine which contractor is best for you. In addition, you will need to know if the problem is related to cracking or leaking, as these problems require different repair work. Some foundation repair companies specialize in fixing leaky foundations. They typically will install pumps and drains. Other companies fix architectural aspects of the damage. They perform repairs by pouring concrete, replacing blocks and installing jacks. Choose a company that will help you with your foundational needs. If your foundation has several issues, then select a company that will provide various services. Another thing to consider is whether your home has a basement. If your basement is finished, you may need additional services after the job is completed. You may require a contractor to help with floor laying, carpentry and finishing. If the basement is rough or unfinished, then the level of work will be substantially less.

Contact contractors to inspect the damage and give you a written estimate. You should receive estimates from at least three different companies in order to compare prices. During these meetings, make sure the contractor understands the required repairs and the time frame it will take to complete the work. You may not always want to go with the lowest estimate. The low cost may be due to poor quality of materials or lack of experience by the contractor. Ask the contractor about the types of materials he will be using and whether those materials are long-lasting. If you know anyone in your social network who has had foundation work done, ask them about contractors. Were they happy with the service? Is the work holding up? Would they use the contractor again? Referrals will help you determine which contractors are best. If your friends give rave reviews to a company, then look closely at their services. Before any work starts, the contractor should provide you with a current insurance certification. You need to verify that the contractor is covered for any accidents involving workers or damage caused to your home. Otherwise, you may be liable. If the contractor cannot provide you with this certification, check with their insurance company to find out what they cover. If the contractor is uninsured, begin searching again. Professional contractors are always covered by insurance. It takes time and effort to research contractors but it will save you time and money in the long run. You will feel comfortable with the knowledge that your foundation is in good shape, and the rest of your home or office will be stronger.

How to Choose A Feed Store If you own a small family farm or a major ranching operation — or even have several pets at home — taking care of your animals begins with nutritious, healthy food. So finding a good feed store can make a world of difference for raising and caring for your animals. As always, choosing a retail/wholesale store or outlet involves some research and review. Here are some things to look for when selecting a quality feed store.

QUALITY Just like humans, animal health is directly impacted by the quality of food they ingest. While most feed stores will carry a range of products at different price points, it’s a good idea to select the best food you can afford for your pets or livestock. All feed products contain nutrients with a mixture of carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, proteins and minerals, and they also contain filler such as cheap grains and animal byproducts. The best feed brands have the right nutritional mix to grow strong, healthy animals, with more beneficial substances and less filler. When you buy better quality food, your pets and livestock will have fewer allergic reactions, be able to digest their food better and will ultimately live healthier lives. That means strong muscles, teeth and bones, along with stronger immune systems that can fight off diseases more effectively.

KNOWLEDGE Look for a feed store that offers not only quality brands, but also knowledgeable expertise to help you pick the right product for your animals’ needs. The best stores are run by people with years of first-hand experience raising pets and livestock. They’ll know which products are the best fit for your goals, whether it’s bulking up your cattle, raising healthy horses, or growing a shiny coat for show dogs. A good feed store will be staffed by people who know their products inside and out, including which ones are the best value for your situation.

SERVICE Like any retail operation, service can vary widely between different feed stores. You’ll want to find a store that puts their customers’ needs first, taking the time to get to know you and going the extra mile to make sure you’re satisfied. Some things you may notice: • Serving the community: Some feed stores are more like a central meeting place for the community. They may have bulletin boards for farmers and ranchers to exchange information, and they’ll sponsor local events or youth sports teams. A store that partners with and supports its local community is always a good sign.

• Staff recommendations: A good feed store will have employees who know enough about their products to offer informed, meaningful advice. • Special orders and mail orders: If the feed store doesn’t have the product you need in stock, they should be able to place a special order for you. They might order a specialized feed for you and then notify you when it arrives. • Delivery: Some feed stores may offer a delivery service to their local customers, making it easy and convenient to get the products you need.

SELECTION Beyond offering feed products, the best stores will have other products that help with agriculture. From fencing to seed, tractors to gardening supplies, many feed stores offer a wide range of other products. The best feed stores can be a one-stop shop for all your farming and ranching supplies. If they don’t have it in stock, they can help you order it, offering service with a smile for no extra charge. If you find a store with top-quality feed products, a knowledgeable and experienced staff, and service and selection that go above and beyond the basics, you’ll know you’ve found a great place to do business.

How to Choose A Real Estate Agent Finding a reliable, reputable real estate agent is essential when you are considering buying or selling a home. These professionals can guide you through complicated negotiations and contracts to secure you the best deal you can get. They’ll also be able to inform you of the precise steps you need to take just before buying or selling. It goes without saying that you shouldn’t make any property decision under the advisement of an agent you don’t trust. So, do your homework and pick an agent you can have faith will get the job done right.

REAL ESTATE AGENT VS. REALTOR A real estate agent may or may not be a realtor, but every realtor is required to be a licensed real estate agent. To become a realtor, a real estate agent has to join the National Association of Realtors (NAR). This allows him or her to attend industry meetings, get NAR newsletters, and access software and educational tools. Realtors adhere to a strict code of ethics and have solid knowledge of the real estate business. These professionals have been trained well, which means they will provide you with the best service.

and conducting open houses to invite the public for home viewings.

Sometimes agents are good at helping clients purchase homes, but not as skilled at selling them. Keep that in mind when searching for the right professional.

If you are purchasing a home, the agent should listen to your guidelines and price ranges.

You might also contact local brokers or search the NAR directory online. Always work with credible, responsible agents. Otherwise you are wasting your time.

COMFORT LEVEL At the initial consultation with a prospective real estate professional, focus on your comfort level while interacting with them. Do you get the feeling they are genuinely concerned about your needs? Or are they focused on their commission? Do they know the current housing market? Can they negotiate a contract? It is important that you feel comfortable with the agent. You must trust that this person can behave ethically and help you secure a good deal.

COMMUNICATION AND PLANNING

WHERE TO START LOOKING

Your agent should be an effective communicator. If you are selling your home, your agent should develop an effective marketing plan, explain it to you, and respond to any questions or concerns you have.

The marketing plan will probably involve placing advertisements

Above all, your real estate agent needs to provide updates on progress. Do not work with someone who does not return phone calls or emails.

MORE RESOURCES To get a better idea about the process of buying and selling a home, conduct some research on your own. Real estate magazines contain good information and can be a great way to start your research. There are also a lot of good resources on the Internet, such as www.Realtor.com, which is associated with NAR and which contains free, useful information. You may find housing statistics, market forecasts and tips, but nothing beats the power of networking. You need to find people with similar interests who will help you in your endeavor. Upon successfully buying or selling your home, keep your real estate agent's contact information on hand. You may want to refer other people to him or her. You may also need their services again someday.

How to Choose Granite Countertops Granite countertops are now an almost-standard demand for those in the market for a new home. Adding granite countertops to your existing home also instantly increases its value while changing the look of your kitchen and bathrooms. One of the things real estate agents frequently cite as a major selling point for homes is a kitchen that features the timeless durability of granite counters. That’s why granite has quickly risen to become one of the most popular surfaces used for kitchen countertops today. If you’re in the market for new countertops, you should definitely consider granite. Here are some things to keep in mind.

Educate Yourself All granite is not created equal. While all granite around the world is produced naturally from the same geologic processes, resulting in a variety of colors interspersed with quartz crystals, there is quite a wide variation in the material itself. Choosing your granite purely from pictures in a catalog or from small samples could result in disappointment. Seeing the selection in person can inform you about all the types of granite available and how they vary in color and mineral composition. Going into one of our supplier warehouses allow you to hand pick your slabs.

granite-like look. The countertops you assumed were granite in a hotel or at a friend’s house could have actually been a man-made material. A good countertop company can help you understand the strengths and weaknesses of every type of material on the market. Keep in mind, though, that man-made doesn’t necessarily mean less expensive.

Fitting Your Design Depending on where it comes from, granite can range in color from black to white, and every shade of brown, blue and red. There is also tremendous variation in the veining and crystal composition of each slab. While picking the right stone can be a matter of personal choice, there are some basic rules to follow. Just like with paint colors,

Is it Granite? As the popularity of granite has skyrocketed in the past decade, so have the alternative products that are designed to have a

lighter stone colors can make a small room look bigger and more open. Likewise, dark colored granite can make a small kitchen feel even smaller. If your kitchen is big, roomy and well-lit, your choices are almost endless because any slab has the potential to look good in it. But for smaller, darker kitchens, your choices will be a bit more limited because dark countertops can make the space feel gloomy and hemmed-in. You should also look for a color that contrasts and pairs well with your cabinet materials. Depending on the look you’re aiming for, dark colored granite can look amazing when paired with lighter stains of wood cabinetry. The other colors in your decor will play a role in your choice, too, from the flooring to the paint on the walls and even the kitchen hardware and appliances you’re using. Some countertop companies will even offer the experience of a decorator to help you make the right choice. If you think you might sell your home in the near future, you should think about what potential buyers might think about the countertops you select. You wouldn’t want to choose something that could fall quickly out of style or be a particularly strong, polarizing color if you might be selling the house soon. Conservative choices should win out in this case. Be careful with your selection and educate yourself about the wide variety of granite styles and products on the market, and you can add beauty and value to your home for years to come.

Enjoy the timeless beauty and elegance of our durable stone, marble and granite surfaces. 618 KICKAPOO SPUR • SHAWNEE, OK SCOTT • STEVE • MARY

How to Choose An Optometrist WHY you need an eye exam. Whether you feel you have clear vision or wear glasses or contact lenses, regular eye exams can ensure your long-term health and happiness. Unfortunately, many tend to ignore eye care until it is absolutely necessary. So even if you don't have noticeable trouble with your eyesight, it is still important to have a routine examination. Getting your eyes checked often makes it possible to discover vision issues early. It can also help you identify vision problems you may not have even known you had. The scary fact is that most eye diseases don’t have symptoms until late in the disease stages when vision can no longer be improved to its previous state. Early detection and treatment of eye conditions is the most critical aspect of saving visual outcomes.

Travis Kliewer, O.D.

Trevor Conklin, O.D. Kyle Karnish, O.D.

WHEN do you need an eye exam? Not only can your local eye doctor help detect and prevent eye disease, but they can also help your child learn more efficiently. Eye exams should begin at the early age of 6-12 months old. At this age an eye doctor can check for any abnormalities. Children should again be checked at age three for adult like visual outcomes. During the school years it is very important to have an eye exam every year as growth and changes with the eye are frequent. During adult hood most individuals should be checked yearly as the aging eye develops the majority of eye diseases.

WHAT you should expect during an eye exam. Be prepared to have your general health insurance information as well as any vision insurance. Depending on the ocular findings during the exam some insurances require to be billed through the vision insurance and some through the medical insurance even if you carry both.

Britton Adams, O.D.

Experience E xperience Modern Modern Eye Eye Care Care Shawnee Vision Source offers comprehensive eye care services and in-demand lenses and frames to Shawnee and the surrounding communities. Call to connect and access the quality of vision care you deserve.

To start the eye exam a thorough patient health history including your medications and health conditions will help give an appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan. After your health history you may be dilated with an eye drop and/or have pictures of the inside of your eye taken. During the exam your eye doctor will check for your maximum potential of vision and check the outside and inside health of your eyes using a variety of equipment. At the conclusion of the exam you may be directed on your need for glasses or contacts. There are several tricks for picking out a great looking and feeling set of eyeglasses. When picking out glasses find a frame style that compliments your face shape and compliments your skin and hair tone. Your lenses for your glasses can be one of the most important pieces of great vision. The first option is what material to use. Plastic lenses are the most economical option but offer the least visual benefit over other lenses like polycarbonate or high index lenses. One of the most important additions to your lenses would be a non-glare lens. Non-glare lenses usually provide the very best vision as well as scratch protection. Overall your routine ocular wellness exam should be a painless and enjoyable experience. Don’t let yourself miss out on all of the beauty and fun in the world. See your local optometrist now and start enjoying life again.

Here are just some of the points from our arcles on the dangers of underground and steel structures: A recent record torrenal downpour, causing flooding in Oklahoma, made many underground shelters impossible to use. How to Choose A Flooring Dealer Choosing new or replacement flooring will immediately change the look, feel and value of your home. It’s an important decision and there are plenty of great options, including carpet, hardwood, bamboo, laminate, stone and tile. You will need guidance on which brands and types are durable as well as what material best fits your needs and lifestyle. This is where a good dealer can help you determine which flooring is best for you. Here are some things to consider as you shop for flooring. When picking the best flooring and respective dealer, try not to be overly frugal. You must think about longevity. Your budget may be tight and you might be concerned about pricing, but you must get the best value possible. What if something happens in 10 years and you have no warranty to repair or replace the damage? Or if the installers make a mistake and leave your flooring permanently damaged? So be sure to look at additional support and services. Find a dealer who has a great reputation and long track record of excellent customer service. Spending extra money is worth purchasing a product from a flooring dealer you can trust. You aren't just buying flooring. You are also creating a relationship. When looking for a flooring dealer, look on the internet or your local phone book. On the internet, you can find review sites to see how local flooring

dealers compare. You can also check advertisements in your local newspaper to find specials and deals. Keep in mind, though, the internet can be misleading when it comes to finding a qualified floor dealer. Just because it is one of the top search engine results doesn't mean that the company is reliable. Instead, look on consumer review sites. Then check with the Better Business Bureau to see if the company has had any complaints lodged against it. If so, look to see how they were resolved. You might also check with the Chamber of Commerce. After making a list of potential dealers you are considering, give each of them a call. Inquire about the background of the company and how long they've been in business. You may ask for referrals from previous customers for references. Find out about the installation services they use and the dealer’s reliability. Do they use in-company groups or outside contractors? Also, find out about prices and warranty coverage. If you visit their offices, they might even show you a scrapbook of prior work.

Experience should play a role in which company you ultimately select. Quality of materials, comparable or lower prices and good references will all make a big difference in finding the right flooring dealer.

How to Choose A Dog Trainer Top 10 Common Dog Issues. By-Khara Schuetzner, MA, CPDT-KSA, CNWI owner of The Doggie Spot 1. Not socializing Dog Action: Not taking the dog to meet people, places, things, or other animals. Results: Dog could be fearful of noises, types of animals, or other people. For example, you are traveling with your pup, and your room is on the second floor. Your dog has never been in a hotel lobby, the luggage cart causes the pup to bark or back away, and the pup refuses to get on the elevator. Solutions: Each week try to shoot for at least 50 different people, places, objects, and animals. Any combination of meeting new things in the puppies life. You want to make it a positive experience so make things a game for your pooch. Go to a store, find a shopping cart and walk around out front with Dog and shopping cart. If the pup is scared just be patient with the pooch or start the cart and at a distance and slowly when the pup looks at the cart, Mark (good/yes/click) and reinforce-praise, treat, play-whatever your Dog prefers.

treats in your hand on the side you want your dog to be walking on. When you step forward if the dog is with you, say (good/ yes/click) stop and give a treat. If your arms start to go straight out stop completely and wait until the dog backs up or puts slack on the leash. Another option is to recall your dog back to you, mark and reinforce, then continue to walk.

5. Scolding Dog for peeing and pooping everywhere Action: Not keeping a close eye on the dog in the house or not crate training. Results: Your dog does not develop a regular schedule. Your dog will learn to do his/her business in a different place, where you don’t see it. Your dog will pee when you get near it due to fear of being scolded.

2. Letting Dog have free roam in the house

Solutions: Crate training helps the dog establish a routine for housetraining. If you work long hours there are people who can walk your dog for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Another option is creating a space for the dog to be during the day with a bed, play area, and potty area such as pee pads or litter box. If you are home when the dog is doing the elimination, keep the dog tethered to you and watch for signs of extra sniffing, circling, or the dog butthole getting bigger or winking. Take the dog outside and walk a bit and stop. Once the dog goes mark

Action: Giving the animal too much freedom in the house leads to chewing, and bad housetraining manners.

(good/yes/click) and reinforce with a treat, kibble, or toy. If the dog still has issues contact your veterinarian.

Results: Your Dog will seek things out to chew on while teething. Your Dog will get into things, when unsupervised because the Dog has no boundaries. If you are not home or not paying attention to pup, could have peeing and pooping in the house.

6. You let Dog chew on some things but not other things

Solutions: Confinement training and crate training allows a safe space for your Dog to be when you are not paying attention to the pup. Give him/her a bed, chew toys and/or pee pads or litter box. A safe area eliminates any unwanted behaviors such as chewing on shoes when you are not paying attention. Another great thing is you have lots of people over this gives your pooch an area to go when the Dog wants to sleep or take a break.

3. Letting Dog beg at the table Action: Giving out table scrapes at table or talking to Dog it’s so cute..look at him/her. Results: At first the begging at the table is cute, but as the Dog grows the begging turns into paws on tables or houseguest. It could lead to counter surfing on the table when you are not home.

Action: The sock is okay for the Dog to chew, but your shoes might not be okay. The empty toilet paper roll is fine, but not unrolling the toilet paper roll not fine. Results: Dog will do what the dog gets reinforced to do. If you smile or laugh at something the dog has been chewing on you just reinforce that behavior. Solutions: Give your dog chew toys that are appropriate for him/her. Don’t buy toys that look like shoes or other objects you do not want your dog to chew on. When puppy’s teething try making a stuff kong and freeze it. You can use stuff kongs or other interactive toys to keep your dog from chewing. Never chase after the dog to get the item being chew, instead grab something close by and make it a game by shaking it and rattling it until the dog drops the other item and comes to you, mark for the good behavior of the dog coming to you and reinforce.

8. You let dog sleep with you because he whines from the crate Action: Dog is whining in crate and you let the dog out of crate because you either can’t sleep or you worry about the dog. Results: Dog learns whining in the crate gets the human to open the crate. This could create separation anxiety when the dog gets older, because the dog does not learn to be alone. Solutions: Try putting a dirty shirt in the crate with your dog at night, so the dog has your smell. Another option is a warm water bottle wrap in a towel to give the Dog some warmth. One company makes comfort pups, for puppies that mimic the mothers heart beat, gives warm, and has smoothing smells on the toy.

9. You rush to your dog when s/he won’t stop barking (and there is nothing physically wrong) Action: Dog barking and you come in to see what is wrong and starts yelling at the dog. Results: Dog learns barking gets owner into the room. You start yelling at the dog to stop barking and the dog learns owner is barking with them. Dog learns any barking retrieves human to my area, hence getting attention. Solutions: When the dog is barking, try a recall. Say your dog’s name and when the dog comes, mark and reinforce. If the barking is loud, go to a window and speak quietly as you describe what is out the window, when dog is calm, mark and reinforce.

10. Dog hates getting toenails clip. Action: You try to trim your puppies’ toenails and Dog whines, bites, or pulls away. You let Dog have it’s paw back and do not clip. Results: Dog learns whining, biting, or barking when someone is holding my paw, they will let go. Dog has to go to vet to get toenails done. Solutions: Doesn’t matter at what age start now teaching your dog to have his/her’s paws handle. First touch his/her paw, mark (good/yes/click) and give a treat. If the dog fights you handling the paw, be patient and wait until the dog stops struggling before releasing the paw. You can also use an electrical toothbrush to mimic toenail clippings. Hold the toothbrush out let the Dog investigate it, mark and reinforce, then turn the toothbrush, placing the back side of the toothbrush on the back of the paw, on and near the paw, give a treat to the Dog. Slowly work up to holding the toothbrush on the dog’s paw while treating.

Solutions: You can use crate training or you a place cue, such as go to mat. Use a mat a few feet from the table and point to the mat and when the dog looks at the mat, mark (good/yes/click) toss a treat on the mat. Slowly work up to the up to the dog being all on the mat. Then when you are eating you can send your dog to the mat.

7. You let the dog jump up on people

4. Letting Dog lead while leash training

Results: Dog jumps on greeting people, which give the dog attention. Dog learns jumping on people gets attention.

Action: Dog has a toy and you chase the dog around the house to get the toy.

Solutions: Teach another behavior such as a sit, when the dog comes up to jump ask for the sit, you mark and reinforce. Teach a touch where the dog targets a hand with treats at first instead of jumping. Touch allows the dog to get attention from a person without jumping on them

Results: Dog learns to possess items and not to give them up.

Action: when on a walk, you let your dog pull you. You start walking like Frankenstein arms. Results: As a dog the force on the leash and your shoulders are not to bad, but as the dog grows you could be pulled down. Solutions: Start in small steps. Pick a two points and put some

Action: As soon as the dog sees you, it jumps on you and as you get excited to see the dog you encourage the behavior without knowing it because you are petting the dog or pushing the dog to get down.

11. Dog does not give up a toy.

Solutions: When the dog has an item teach a drop/out cue. You can hold on to the item while Dog chews on it, say “out/ drop”, mark (good/yes/click) and reinforce with treat of higher value. You are teaching the dog to trade up and release the toy.

How to Choose Hospice Care Hospice care is care directed to your comfort and daily support of yourself and family when you are dealing with an illness that you and your physician have decided is beyond a cure. According to the Hospice Foundation of America, a third of all Americans choose hospice care when they reach this condition. But hospice isn’t only for the patient. Loved ones also benefit from hospice care, as workers will support them through some of the most difficult moments in life. You will find hospice workers in assisted living centers, nursing homes, hospitals and residential facilities. More than half of patients receive care in their own homes or the homes of friends and family. While all hospice centers are regulated by the government, each facility has meaningful differences in personnel, policies and facilities. Here are some things to consider when selecting hospice care: • You can choose which hospice company to use. If you do not know which hospice that you want, you can call two or more possible companies and have their representative come to describe their program at no cost. This will give you the opportunity to ask special question that are meaningful to you. • All the hospices in your area that are Medicare certified and state licensed will offer all the required services in a similar fashion however each hospice has the opportunity to add services they have found helpful in pervious cases that are not required by the state or Medicare. Massage therapy, IV therapy, specialty equipment that is unique for your needs as well as many other care modalities.

• A quality hospice program will give you all the time and personal attention you need to ease your mind with a focus on enhancing the life you have still to live. • Part of picking hospice involves having the right feeling. If the hospice staff is personable and makes you feel comfortable, that’s a good sign. You need a group of professional, competent, hospice workers that gives you the security and trust it takes to complete this effort successfully at home with the people you love.

Referrals Every patient who receives hospice treatment must be qualified by a physician. This means there is a life expectancy of six months or less. Since some physicians may hesitate to broach the subject of hospice care, you may need to bring it up yourself. Ask whether hospice care would be appropriate and which services might be most helpful. Hospice care has been growing since the 1980s. Many people are realizing that it is possible to die with peace and dignity in the environment of their choice. Hospice can help the end-of-life experience be a little easier for the patient and loved ones. Electing hospice does not take away your Medicare or insurance benefits for other health care needs. The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization has long said that people with the same or similar conditions that choose Hospice when compared to those that do not utilize hospice tend to live longer lives.

Building or Buying a New Home? Read this First Building a new home can either be a great and rewarding experience or a nightmare with major problems. By doing your homework, before hand, you can prevent costly problems, serious stress and have a finished home that you are proud of. Be sure you do a thorough research of the Builder. Even if you purchase a completed new home you need to know the workmanship of the builder that built it. All new homes are beautiful on the outside, but it is what is in the walls and foundation or the lack of, is what you need to be concerned about. Here are a few ways to research your possible Builder; A wealth of information is at your finger tips on the internet. Check court records. www1.odcr.com. See if the builder has been sued extensively by either Home Owners or by suppliers. You need to be sure he is going to pay all bills related to your home. If he doesn’t, then you can end up with liens on your new home for materials or labor that you have ready paid for. Also call his major suppliers to be sure that he is in good standing with them. The best suppliers to call would be the ones that provide the Builder’s concrete, framing materials, roofing and/ or flooring. Does the Builder carry workers compensation insurance? This is very important. As the property owner you are responsible if anyone that has an accident and gets hurt. The Lawyers will come after the property owner unless the coverage of workers compensation is in place. Also you need the protection of general liability insurance to cover any other problems such as a fire due to negligence or damage caused by a defect and

of course a death caused by a defect or negligence. Visit with your own insurance agent. They can explain the importance of being protected and what can happen if the insurances are not involved. Don’t take the Builder’s word for it. Ask for certificates of coverage from the insurance carriers. These will need to be mailed directly to you by the Builder’s insurance agent. Your name will be on the certificate as a certificate holder. Don’t accept just a worker’s comp exemption certificate. Of course your insurance agent can explain that also. It is law that a builder has to provide both insurances to any municipality that provides the permits and inspections, before they issue a permit. Don’t let the Builder talk you into pulling the permit in your name. That makes you responsible to the city for any and all problems that arise. As a property owner you don’t have to provide the insurances but a Builder does. If the builder asks you to pull the permit then he probably doesn’t have the required insurance. Be carefully with reviews and references that the Builder gives to you. They can be his friends or family. In addition to checking online reviews, the best way to check out a builder is to visit the neighborhoods that he has built in extensively. Go at a time that people are at home and maybe out and about. Go to their door if necessary. Just ask them how their experience with this Builder was. Ask if they are mostly satisfied with their home and the Builder. Did he take care of any warranty issues quickly and efficiently? Did he answer his phone or quickly retuned the calls? Would you recommend the Builder? Did he really care for their needs or mostly his own needs? If you can find some homeowners that have been in their house for 3-5 years, they

will know how the home has stood up. Is the Builder a member of the National and local Home Builders Association and is he a certified builder? A certified Builder takes continuous education classes keeping up to date on codes and building practices. Check them out on the OSHBA site. www.oshba.org Be careful about the lowest price. Low priced Builders have a tendency to lower the quality of the home, such as lesser quality concrete, foundations, lumber and some use 2nd grade roofing. They will also use lesser quality labor. Some don’t put steel in the slab which can cause the concrete to separate. Of course the home has to also be beautiful but it also needs to endure time to protect your investment and resell value. Bottom line for researching the Builder; Check court records, www1.odcr.com ,for his business name and personally. Check online reviews and also visit the neighborhoods he builds in. Be sure his insurance agent sends you certificates of insurance for comp and gen. liability insurances. Have the Builder to pull any building permits in his name and not yours. Check to see if the Builder is a member of the Oklahoma Builders Association. And is he certified? www.oshba.org My wish is that you enjoy your new home building experience. Rick Austin

How to Choose A Medical Clinic Medical clinics are often busy places with lots of patients who need care and professionals doing important work. The best clinics, however, don’t make you feel rushed and take the time to make sure your needs are fully being met. Picking the right medical clinic can yield far-reaching benefits for your mind and body, so shop carefully to find one that can deliver the health services you need in a professional and friendly way. Here are some things to consider when choosing a health clinic.

Credentials Like with any services in the health-care field, you want to make sure the doctors and nurses at the clinic hold the right credentials to practice in your state. Check with your state’s medical board to make sure your doctor’s records are listed there. Most medical boards have a way of searching online to see which degrees and board certifications medical professionals hold, making it easy for patients to verify their background and specialties. The medical staff’s experience and reputation in your community matter, too. The best doctors have a long track record of happy patients and good medical outcomes, so ask your friends, family and coworkers about which doctors or clinics they recommend.

Listening Aside from their medical training and experience, one of the most important things that sets a great medical clinic apart is the staff’s ability to listen to your needs. The doctors and nurses at the clinic should make you feel comfortable asking questions and sharing your concerns with them. Listening carefully to your needs doesn’t just help them understand your potential medical problems, but it’s also a matter of good, old-fashioned customer service. The best clinics will also be able to help you take care of financial issues. Your clinic should be able to help you understand their payment policies and clearly answer questions about your bills.

High Standards While most medical clinics can provide the same basic services, the best ones have high expectations for how they run their operation and care for patients. In most cases, after your first visit you’ll be able to tell how much pride the clinic takes in its services. Is the office, including the waiting area, kept clean and organized? Do the employees and medical staff have a professional appearance and demeanor?

Do they respect your time by keeping appointments on schedule and communicating clearly when there’s a delay? Do the employees seem to enjoy their work? Well-run clinics value the personal lives of the people who work there, something that can lead to a better overall experience for patients. When you see a clinic that sets high standards for taking care of their staff, they’ll be likely to have high standards for how they treat you, too.

Community Wellness Finally, a good medical clinic will have a bigger goal in mind: making the whole community a happier, healthier place to live. Many clinics are involved in their communities by supporting health-related events or sponsoring youth sports teams and other activities. Even more important are the wellness groups that clinics can create and support. Whether it’s yoga classes, lessons on healthy eating, or support groups for people and caregivers dealing with serious health problems, the best clinics are about a lot more than just routine doctor visits. When you find a clinic filled with caring, highly competent and community-minded medical professionals, you’ll know you’ve picked a good one.

How to Choose An HVAC Company It almost never fails that your heating and air conditioning systems break down during extreme weather. That’s a nightmare most of us have experienced, so it’s essential you have a professional, reliable HVAC company on standby to remedy any issues. The best HVAC contractors are helpful and reliable, but a poor contractor can cost you extra money and heartache. Good word of mouth will go a long way toward helping you find the best professionals in your area. Create a list of candidates and call the Better Business Bureau, your state's board of contractors or the builders' association to check on their reputations. Your town's building inspection office may also have information for you. Avoid companies who have many complaints on their record.

nized professional and trade organizations. Some wellknown organizations include the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute, and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers. Membership in one of these organizations is not automatic. Applicants are required to have certain certifications, meet professional standards and meet or exceed other requirements before they are admitted. Before any work begins, verify that all the required building permits are in place. Most companies will file permits on your behalf at the local building codes office. But don't assume that it has happened. Check with the permitting office first. Work done without proper permits could result in a fine and time delay.

Upon narrowing the list, call the remaining ones and ask about pricing, guarantees and warranties. Also inquire about how long it would take to complete a job and the manufacturers' brands they use.

Have a load calculation done before installing a new system in any building. The best companies perform a thorough calculation rather than estimate. Buildings change over time due to foundations cracking or settling. It will affect the efficiency of any equipment.

If you are purchasing new equipment, find out if you need a separate service contractor or if routine maintenance and repairs are included in the price of installation. Does the company provide around-the-clock emergency service?

The HVAC company shouldn't use the old unit to determine the proper size of a new one. If your old unit was inadequate, you will want to install a unit that is a different size. Speak with your HVAC installer to determine the right size and model for you.

High quality HVAC companies are fully licensed, bonded and insured. If a worker is injured or causes damage to your property, that insurance should cover it. Otherwise, you could be liable for the damages. Your insurance premiums would likely increase as a result.

Ask your HVAC contractor to perform annual checkups to verify that the unit is running at peak efficiency.

Reputable HVAC companies will usually belong to recog-

With these tips, you can choose a reliable HVAC business that will help you for years to come.

For example; Picture a basketball full of BB's sitting on your kitchen floor. It only covers a small portion of the floor. Now, picture the basketball breaking open and all those BB's spilling out. They spread out over the entire floor. This is what our proprietary nano system does — it breaks large lipid balls full of cannabinoids down thousands of times to the molecular level. The smaller the particle size, the easier it is for the cells of your body to absorb it. Every time you cut the particle size in half, you increase its surface area. Think of the exponential surface area when you reduce particle sizes hundreds of times. This process will not only make hemp oil concentrate much more potent, it will make delivery time to the cells a matter of seconds; not hours!

Americans Have Been Misled About Hemp Facts

We support farms that are growing Non-GMO crops and understand the sustainability of hemp as a crop. Hemp is naturally resistant to most pests. Therefore there is no need for

The cannabis plant species can be grown as hemp (which has a weak amount of natural THC — the widely known psychoactive property) or marijuana (which over centuries has

been selectively bred for higher and higher THC ). Hemp has been grown for over 5,000 years for its fiber – used for rope, twine, fabric and so on. Since at least 1500 BC, hemp has been widely used as medicine. Many scholars believe that the gall and vinegar, or myrrh wine, offered to Jesus immediately after the crucifixion was, in all probability, a preparation of hemp. Queen Victoria used hemp extracts for menstrual cramps and anxiety. Her reign from 1837-1901 paralleled the explosive growth of hemp based medicines. From 1842 to 1900, cannabis made up half of all medicines sold. From 1850 to 1937, the U.S. Pharmacopeia listed cannabis as the primary medicine to treat more than 100 separate illnesses or diseases.

Recognizing Hemp’s Potential In 2003, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services filed a U.S. patent on CBD (#6630507) that covers CBD treatment for various neurodegenerative and inflammatory disorders. Because of the February 6, 2004, Federal Court Ruling Nos. 03-71366, 0371693, every US citizen can legally use CBD (extracted from industrial hemp high in CBD without illegal amounts of THC). The American medical community had come to believe (or been “brain washed”) in the years following

the 1937 Marijuana Tax Act that cannabis had no use as a medicine. Only now have they come full circle on cannabis, realizing what their predecessors knew 100 years ago. CBD oil is simply the most exciting outcome from this current thinking regarding cannabis. Their belief is that CBD oil is not negative or illegal but that it should be embraced and used for its many health benefits. As a result of his investigative reporting, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN, completely changed his stance on medical marijuana, cannabis and hemp. (Prior to his research, he thought people “needed” medical marijuana to justify getting “high”). Dr. Gupta featured CBD miracle stories in his special documentary series called “Weed” that first aired in 2013. The world was astonished by the people he profiled and the positive effects CBD oil has proven to have on human health. Dr. Mehmet Oz, known from “Oprah” and current host of his own TV show and ABC News Chief, Health and Medical Editor, Dr. Richard Besser have also been convinced of the beneficial properties of CBD.
