Including checking himself out of the hospital earlier than advised, Brady is determined to get back up onto the literal and proverbial horse as quickly as possible as being a cowboy is all he knows. But deep in his heart he knows that returning to the rodeo in particular is something that is probably not in the cards without increased risks, which is eventually confirmed by his doctor who tells him that he cannot sustain another serious head injury without some major consequence. He does not even want his friends and family to treat him with kid gloves in being able to do any of those physical activities which are part and parcel for him. Brady Jardreau stars. In the OASIS, you can go anywhere, do anything, be anyone-the only limits are your own imagination. The OASIS was created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance), who left his immense fortune and total control of the Oasis to the winner of a three-part contest he designed to find a worthy heir. When Wade conquers the first challenge of the reality-bending treasure hunt, he and his friends-aka the High Five-are hurled into a fantastical universe of discovery and danger to save the OASIS. Pawnee Bill Wild West Show Couple Shares Love of History By Teresa Black Bradway
as “the Greatest Lady Horseback Rifle-Shot of the World.”
If Gordon W. “Pawnee Bill” Lillie and his wife, May, visited their Wild West Show, they would see a married couple reminiscent of themselves 130 years ago.
Alyce Vigil Webb was born in Pawnee where her mother, Donna, and family members still live. After high school graduation in 2008, she worked at the Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum. The facility includes the Lillie’s 14-room mansion, the ranch blacksmith shop, a 1903 log cabin, a large barn, an Indian Flower Shrine, a museum and Wild West Show arena.
Kevin and Alyce Webb met at the Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum, became friends, dated, worked together as cast members in the Wild West Show, then married. They will be in Pawnee Bill’s Original Wild West Show when it thunders into the arena on Friday, June 8, and Saturday, June 9, for special shows celebrating its 30th anniversary. Preshow entertainment begins at 7 p.m. and the Wild West Show starts at 7:30 p.m. Most days, she is Dr. Alyce Webb, history professor at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa. Kevin Webb heads maintenance of the ranch with its bison herd, longhorns and Clydesdale horses. The ranch is owned by the Oklahoma Historical Society, one mile west of Pawnee. But, once a year, Kevin Webb becomes the sensational American showman Pawnee Bill when the Wild West Show comes back to life. He gallops into the arena in a fringed buckskin jacket, lifting his hat to the crowd. American Indian dancers, Cossack riders, sharpshooters and trick riders thrill the crowds. During the two-hour show, Pawnee Bill returns to save the stagecoach, rescue settlers from outlaws, and exchange gunfire with attacking banditos. Alyce Webb is her husband’s assistant in a whip act in the show. Before the show, she is a “saloon girl” selling soda and water in a plywood saloon. As a stagehand she dashes into the arena between acts to change targets and props. The original Pawnee Bill Lillie (1860-1942) was a legendary performer who took Wild West Shows around the United States and Europe, at times a partner with Buffalo Bill Cody. Around 1913, Pawnee Bill brought the show home to his ranch where he re-created the mythical Wild West. Pawnee Bill’s wife, May Manning Lillie (1869–1936), might see some of their “Cowboy and the Lady” love story in Kevin and Alyce Webb. May was a fifteen-year-old Quaker girl in Philadelphia when she met Gordon Lillie and fell in love. They courted for two years, married, and she joined the show

“I volunteered at the museum,” Alyce said. “That’s where I met Kevin. That was his first year to be Pawnee Bill.” Kevin, she said, “taught me to love the ranch.” She moved to Stillwater to study history, but each summer she returned to the ranch. Her doctoral dissertation examines the cast of the Pawnee Bill Wild West Show with an emphasis on women. Alyce recently received the award for outstanding dissertation on Oklahoma history from the Oklahoma Historical Society. Her research has brought her speaking invitations at the Buffalo Bill Centennial Symposium in Cody, Wyo., and at the Pioneer Woman Museum in Ponca City. Kevin is an educated cowboy, as was Pawnee Bill Lillie. A fifth-generation farmer and rancher, Webb graduated from Eastern Oklahoma State College with degrees in animal science and farm and ranch management. He was hired at the Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum and joined the Wild West Show. During the year, he looks after the ranch and talks to school groups and visitors. “I love history,” he said. “I enjoy the history of Pawnee Bill.” Alyce joined the 50-member cast of the Wild West Show, which made “every summer an adventure.” Alyce first played a mermaid complete with fish tail who sat on a rock lily pond, to the delight of little girls who came to the show. “I worked in the museum for a couple of summers,” Alyce said. “Kevin and I became friends.” They started dating and Alyce became his assistant in his whip act. “I started holding targets,” she said. “I held up a full sheet of newspaper and Kevin cut it down with a whip. Then, I’d hold the half sheet, then a quarter sheet.” Sometimes the whip hit her. “It’s a show,” she said. “I tried to never let anyone know.” Kevin and Alyce Webb share a love of history of the West, but in different ways, she said. “We complement each other,” she said. “He is intent on the ranch.” Alyce and Kevin Webb married June 27, 2015, in Pawnee. They see their future at the ranch and in the Pawnee Bill Wild West Show. The Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum is a division of the Oklahoma Historical Society. The mission of the Oklahoma Historical Society is to collect, preserve and share the history and culture of the state of Oklahoma. Founded in 1893 by members of the Territorial Press Association, the OHS maintains museums, historic sites and affiliates across the state. Through its research archives, exhibits, educational programs and publications the OHS chronicles the rich history of Oklahoma. For more information about the OHS, please visit www.okhistory.org.

Museum Summer Classes Keep Kids Cool and Creative The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art offers a lineup of classes sure to keep your child’s hands busy and their minds engaged this summer! “The museum offers classes for children ages 3-18,” explains Curator of Education Donna Merkt. Museum summer classes begin June 1 and are offered through July. “There are three types of classes: Teen/Tween Art and Theater Clinics for ages 11-18, Creative Arts Camps (both art and theater) for ages 5-13, and Primary Partners classes for ages 3-6 with their favorite grown-up partner,” said Merkt. Camps and clinics are 2-3 hours daily, over a week, while the Primary Partners classes are each one hour. “We’re really excited about our Da Vinci camp this year!” exclaims Merkt. “We’ve partnered with Thick Descriptions, a science-based STEAM organization, to ensure that the participants get a well-rounded exploration of science, technology, and art.” Students in the class will consider how Renaissance artist and scientist Leonardo da Vinci designed his flying machines and other creations.
members and scholarships are available for any child receiving assistance. Learn more or register online for summer classes at www.mgmoa.org/classes. To determine if your child qualifies for a scholarship, please call 405-878-5605. The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is located at 1900 W. MacArthur, Shawnee on St. Gregory’s campus.
