LOCAL AND STATE-WIDE ONGOING EVENTS & EXHIBITS:

Movies Opening This Weekend in Shawnee!

"CRAZY RICH ASIANS" The story follows Rachel Chu (Constance Wu),

an American-born Chinese economics professor, who travels to her boyfriend Nick's (Henry Golding) hometown of Singapore for his best friend's wedding. Before long, his secret is out: Nick is from a family that is impossibly wealthy, he's perhaps the most eligible bachelor in Asia, and every single woman in his ultra-rarefied social class is incredibly jealous of Rachel and wants to bring her down. (Rated PG-13 for some suggestive content and language), (2:00). NOW SHOWING AT MOVIES SIX AT SHAWNEE MALL.

"ALPHA" An epic adventure set in the last Ice Age, ALPHA tells a fascinating, visu-

ally stunning story that shines a light on the origins of man's best friend. While on his first hunt with his tribe's most elite group, a young man is injured and must learn to survive alone in the wilderness. Reluctantly taming a lone wolf abandoned by its pack, the pair learn to rely on each other and become unlikely allies, enduring countless dangers and overwhelming odds in order to find their way home before winter arrives. (Rated PG-13 for some intense peril), (1:36) OPENS FRIDAY, AUGUST 17 AT THE CINEMA CENTRE 8.

"AN INTERVIEW WITH GOD" Paul Asher, an up-and-coming jour-

nalist, returns home from covering the war in Afghanistan and finds his life is falling apart - his marriage is failing and he's in the grips of a personal crisis he doesn't yet understand. Even more pressing, a soldier that Paul befriended in Afghanistan is struggling at home and Paul is desperately trying to help him. But, Paul's life takes a strange twist when he's offered an interview that he finds impossible to resist - an interview with someone who claims to be God. David Strathairn and Brenton Thwaites star. (Note: This special entertainment is not available for Tuesday Admission Discounts).

"MILE 22" In a visceral modern thriller from the director of Lone Survivor, Mark Wahlberg stars as James Silva, an operative of the CIA's most highly-prized and least-understood unit. Aided by a top-secret tactical command team, Silva must retrieve and transport an asset who holds life-threatening information to Mile 22 for extraction before the enemy closes in. (Rated R for strong violence and language throughout). (1:35) OPENS FRIDAY, AUGUST 17 AT MOVIES SIX AT SHAWNEE MALL.

"UNCLE DREW" After draining his life savings to enter a team in the Ruck-

er Classic street ball tournament in Harlem, Dax (Lil Rel Howery) is dealt a series of unfortunate setbacks, including losing his team to his longtime rival (Nick Kroll). Desperate to win the tournament and the cash prize, Dax stumbles upon the man, the myth, the legend UNCLE DREW (NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving) and convinces him to return to the court one more time. The two men embark on a road trip to round up Drew's old basketball squad (Shaquille O'Neal, Chris Webber, Reggie Miller, Nate Robinson, and Lisa Leslie) and prove that a group of septuagenarians can still win the big one. Rated PG-13 for suggestive material, language and brief nudity). (1:43) OPENS FRIDAY, AUGUST AT THE HORNBECK THEATRE DOWNTOWN.

Septemberfest 2018 Celebrates 22nd Year of Governor's Free Fall Community Festival The Oklahoma History Center and the Friends of the Mansion will be cohosting the governor’s 22nd annual Septemberfest on Saturday, September 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This free fall festival is open to the public and features more than 60 events and demonstrations. The Oklahoma History Center will be the primary location for activities, and tours of the first floor of the Governor’s Mansion also will be offered. This year’s Septemberfest theme is “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘Oklahoma!’” This celebrates both the 75th anniversary of the Broadway debut of the famous musical and the exhibit now on display at the Oklahoma History Center.

River Spirit Resort Announces Bob Dylan to Perform October 12 Bob Dylan is set to perform at River Spirit Casino’s concert venue, Paradise Cove. Bob Dylan’s career has lasted the better part of fifty years now. That’s pretty remarkable. What is more impressive is that Dylan has remained not only active for almost all of that period, but controversial. He has never gotten by on sentimentality or nostalgia. He has never repeated his successes. For better or for worse, Dylan has always pushed his work ahead. Tickets go on sale August 17

Septemberfest was initiated by Governor Frank Keating and the Friends of the Mansion, Inc., in 1997. The original intent was to share “Oklahoma’s House” with Oklahoma’s citizens. Septemberfest has attracted people from all over the world and it continues to grow in popularity. “This is an opportunity to showcase Oklahoma’s wonderful history and culture and things that make Oklahoma unique,” said Governor Mary Fallin. The governor will be on hand to read a variety of stories to children. Visitors will enjoy arts and crafts, chuck wagon cooking, living history, face painting, laser tag, museum exhibits, pony rides, square dancing, live performances and much more. No ticket or registration is required for this free event. The Oklahoma History Center will close at 3 p.m. on September 8. The Oklahoma History Center is located at 800 Nazih Zuhdi Drive in Oklahoma City. For more information, please visit www.okhistory.org/historycenter or call 405-522-0765. The Oklahoma History Center is a division of the Oklahoma Historical Society and is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, National Archives and is an accredited member of the American Association of Museums. The mission of the Oklahoma Historical Society is to collect, preserve and share the history and culture of the state of Oklahoma. Founded in 1893 by members of the Territorial Press Association, the OHS maintains museums, historic sites and affiliates across the state. Through its research archives, exhibits, educational programs and publications the OHS chronicles the rich history of Oklahoma. For more information about the OHS, please visit www.okhistory. org.

Tiger Safari Celebrates 15 Years! To celebrate Tiger Safari’s 15 year anniversary we are offering the public a special deal! All kids 12 and under will get in free on September 23rd! You’ll be able to come see all our brand new additions to our park like our baby kangaroo, Owl monkey, and black and white ruffed lemur. We also have several new attractions like our reptile building, tiger jeep encounter, and tiger overlook deck.

Our reptile building houses over 20 different kinds of reptiles from anacondas and pythons to tegus, monitors, and iguanas. Our Tiger jeep encounter has a tiger that jumps right in the backseat of a jeep, while you sit in the front seat, but don’t worry there is glass between you two! Our Tiger Overlook deck is two stories high and overlooks all our big cat cages in an uninterrupted view like no other.

Stay Tuned: A delightful celebration of crafting on ‘Making It’ In the first episode of “Making It,” a competition that celebrates the “worldwide phenomenon” of crafting, host Amy Poehler says that her and co-host Nick Offerman decided that life is stressful enough so why not “create a show that makes you feel good?!” Mission accomplished. This charming show is nearly impossible to watch without a smile on your face. Poehler and Offerman, who perfected their comedic partner skills on “Parks and Recreation,” are hard not to like. They inject the competition with silly banter, wry observations and funny jokes but also have a genuine appreciation for the competitors’ skills. Poehler makes fun of her lack of knowledge while Offerman, a master woodworker who creates furniture, is the seasoned craftsman. It’s a set-up for corny jokes but also a way for viewers to connect to the action regardless of their knowledge base. And if you don’t know what decoupage is, a definition pops up on screen. Each week is divided into two challenges: A fast craft and a master craft, which is a themed collection. The judges, Daphne Isom Johnson, a trend expert on Etsy and Simon Doonan, a well-known visual merchandiser famous for his Barney’s window displays, award the weekly competition winner with a patch because the “real prize is a job well done.” But because it’s really not, the person named “master maker” at the end of the series wins a cash prize of $100,000. The judges aren’t harsh and weekly eliminations are kind. As the contestants get to work with wood and paper and felt to complete challenges like creating a three-dimensional representation of themselves as an animal, Amy and Nick roam around the room, chatting with each one. They discover that Amber, who has a PhD in clinical child psychology wrote a craft blog that went from a hobby to a career and that Jeff, who started out as an economic development officer at the United Nations got an opportunity to turn his passion for making gifts out of paper into a visual merchandising job. Marveling at Jeff’s story, Amy says, “You never know how your life is going to turn out.” It’s the aspirational side to the show, where dream jobs are possible. For the 3D challenge, Amber makes a unicorn and Jeff creates a bee. Another contestant, Robert, constructs a striking shadow puppet theater representing the animals inside his head. Whimsical, sophisticated or cutesy, each craft is duly appreciated by Amy and Nick with appealing sincerity. "Making It" is on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC.

We are also having our first annual boofari at tiger safari! We will have hay rides and a pumpkin patch for kids to pick their own pumpkin. This will be going on in the month of October, more info can be found at boofari. com, or tigersafari.us 963 County St. 2930 Tuttle, OK 73089 405-414-9365 • www.tigersafari.us
