Hello Art is one of our oldest means of communication and therefore it is one of the most important avenues to explore where we have come from. However, it is also an avenue to explore one’s self and a deeper understanding of the world around us. Art allows for, not only an exploration of the subconscious, but also an exploration of the external factors that work to shape our subconscious. What my body of work does is explore man, not so much as an emotional being, but as a being that drives history and culture and a being that explores an environment by building and reacting to it. In my observations, this reaction can be expressed through politics, religion, and simple human habitation. My objective is not only to see this impact, but also to study the factors that bring it forth from the deeper confines of our minds. And the first place I begin is one’s self. My most resent work is a conceptual series dedicated to observing the factors that have led me to the person I am today. The Surrealist movement, particularly the pictorial imagery and literature of Salvador Dali and AndrÊ Breton, are the main influence in my work. Both these men perceived their world as a whole though absurdity and the dream state. However, they both came to their own actualization in recognizing the external factors of religion, politics, and the environment that had created their subconscious expressions of dreaming. Through the exploration and dream-state principles of Surrealism, I have endeavored to understand the subconscious, helping to find and display artists, environments, politics, religions and cultural references that have guided my thoughts, as well as my approach to life, and my artistic expression. Through this work I want those who see it to understand how there is rationality behind the absurd. To recognize and self evaluate what factors have led others Surrealist artists to their philosophies and ideologies. And more importantly, I want people to envision a world where the external factors and the absurdity of dreams can and do co-exist to form the person they perceive themselves to be.
