Alexander Wang Fall/Winter 2018-2019 Ready-to-Wear
Alexander Wang is an Taiwanese American fashion designer that was born on December 26, 1988. At the age of 18, Wang moved to New York City to attend Parsons School of Design. Wang worked for Teen Vogue and Vogue and also became the creative director for Balenciaga in 2012. In 2007, Wang presented his first women’s ready-to-wear collection fashion show in New York. In that same year, Wang created a line of handbags. It was announced lated in 2015 that Wang would leave Balenciaga to focus on his own work. Alexander Wang is known for his modern looks and mostly using black in his garments. Alexander Wang’s 2018 Fall/Winter ready-to-wear collection presented garments that stuck to his brand of being edgy and powerful but also could be appropriate for the common office workplace. The audience at the show were placed in cubicles while they looked at the assertive and Matrix inspired looks walk down the runway. Calvin Klein
Fall/Winter 2018-2019 Ready-To-Wear
This American brand started off as a coat shop called Calvin Klein Limited. This shop was opened up in 1967 by Calvin Klein and his friend Barry Schwartz. In 1971, Klein’s brand started to grow even more but it wasn’t until the 1980s that Klein’s success started to ourish and become the brand we know today. This led Klein to expand his business and led to him creating a Fragrance, Jeans, and Underwear line. In Klein’s Fall/Winter 2018 Ready-To-Wear Collection, creative director Raf Simmons wanted to take inspiration from the American Stock Exchange. The fashion show took place in a barn with Andy Warhol paint- ings hanging on all of the walls and Sterlin Ruby sculptures hanging from the ceilings, and mounds of popcorn covering the oor. The collection is supposed to remind people of safety and protection. This collection included reman jackets, re ective material, mylar survival blankets, rubber hazmat boots, and hand-knit masks. Chloé
Fall/Winter 2018-2019 Ready-To-Wear
Chloé is a French luxury fashion brand that was founded in 1952 by Gaby Aghion. This brand is known for its feminine womens wear, elaborate hand-bags, and supermodel lled run- ways. What drew customers into Aghion’s stores was that she made clothes was ready to wear and could be bought off of the rack. Natacha Ramsay-Levi, who is the creative director for the Chloé brand, was inspired by the new Chloé girl. This new girl is strong and rebellious but is softened by sensuality. This can be shown in the cut out details and plunging necklines in the pieces of this collection. This collection was meant to appeal the younger vintage girl. A lot of the colors used in this col- lection are warm colors. For example, burnt orange, rust, and red. For the fabrics, there were a lot of heavier fabrics used like wool, furs, and suede. These fabrics bring out the strong and powerful girl that Natacha Ramsay-Levi was trying to embody. Christian Dior Fall/Winter 2018-2019 Ready-To-Wear
Christian Dior was a French fashion designer and was born on January 21, 1905. HIs brand was known for being very intricate and luxury. The House of Dior was established on December 16, 1946 and Dior showed his rst collection in 1947. The brand now sells ready-to-wear, leather goods, shoes, jewelry, accessories, perfume, and make-up. Christian Dior’s Fall/Winter 2018 ready-to-wear collection was created by creative direc- tor Maria Grazia Chiuri. This year marked the 50th anniversary of the Paris student protests of 1968. That sparked the inspiration of the collection. Chiuri wanted to pay tribute to past and future fem- inists and activist for all of their dedication and work to get where we are today. She came up with this idea after nding a black and white photo of a young women holding a protest sign outside a Dior store. Chiuri took details and embellishments from the 1960s and added the Dior luxury touch to them. Comme Des Garcons Fall/Winter 2018-2019 Ready-To-Wear
Comme des Garcons is a company that was founded in Tokyo in 1969 by Rei Kawakubo. This brand at rst was known for its use of distressed and black fabrics but expanded and be- came well known in the 1970s. There was a menswear line added in 1978. Comme des Gar- cons values the quality and effort of handmade products. This is wear the theatricality of their pieces comes in. In the Fall/Winter 2018 ready-to-wear collection, Kawakubo created a line that was girly but also very theatrical. The line was inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay, “Notes on Camp”. The show was joyful and had a magical and colorful charm to it. All of the pieces had very exaggerated proportions and were very theatrical. Christian Siriano Fall/Winter 2018-2019 Ready-To-Wear
Christian Siriano is an American fashion designer who was born on November 18, 1985 in An- napolis, Maryland. Siriano’s brand really took off when he was named the youngest winner for the fourth season of Project Runway. After the show, Siriano launched his namesake brand in 2008. By 2010, Siriano made $1.5 million in revenue. His name and his brand continues to grow as the years go on. Christian Siriano’s Fall/Winter 2018 ready-to-wear collection emphasized the theatrical quality of couture. There was a mix of eye-catching fabrics with unique and embellished textures. Sirano wanted this collection to celebrate all people of all different colors, shapes, and sizes. Supermodel Ashley Graham was featured a lot in this runway show. Siriano laced his collection with lot of powerful messages in his collection to make a big impact on his audience. He used inspiration from his People are People mantra and the #MeToo movement. Fendi
Fall/Winer 2018-2019 Ready-To-Wear
Fendi started as a fur and leather shop in Rome that was founded in 1925 by Adele and Edoardo Fen- di. Now it is an extremely well known Italian luxury fashion brand that sells furs, ready-to-wear clothes, leather goods, shoes, perfumes, and accessories. In 1965, Karl Lagerfeld became part of the brand and became the Creative Director for Fendi. The brand is continuously advancing and coming up with new ways to con- tinue to be successful. In 2014, drones were used in the runways shows which shows they are in trend with new technologies. The Fendi Fall/Winter 2018 ready-to-wear collection was created by Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi. This collection has pieces that were described as uniforms with romantic characteristics. They used men’s fabrics and big boxy shapes to really emphasize women in menswear. Fendi focuses on selling to a women who has a strong sense of their femininity so the use of the big shapes in the collection shows the power of a women and will continue to attract that kind of customer. The collection is nished off with the Fendi double-F beige-brown logo pattern spread through the collection. Marc Jacobs
Fall/Winter 2018-2019 Ready-To-Wear
Marc Jacobs is an American fashion designer who was born on April 9, 1963. He now has over 200 retail stores in 80 countries. Jacobs launched his rst collection in 1986 and by then he was the youngest fashion designer to get awarded by Council of Fashion Designers of America’s fashion’s highest tribute of “New Fashion Designer”. Jacobs also worked as the creative director of Louis Vuitton from 1997-2014. Marc Jacobs’s Fall/Winter 2018 ready-to-wear collection has inspiration from 1980s Haute couture. There was a nostalgic sensation to the collection that left the audience confused. Jacobs usually doesn’t put his personal beliefs into his work but this collection had a lot of political and environmentally controversial topics weaved into it. The mood of the show was set by having the room completely pitch black with only spotlights shining on the runway. The silhouettes are very big and boxy. Miu Miu

Miu Miu is a high fashion Italian brand that was headed in 1993 by Miuccia Prada. Miu Miu is actually a branch of the Prada brand and is a brand devoted to empowering women. The workers at Miu Miu do events that help support women in the lm and fashion industry. The rst independent Miu Miu store was opened in China in 2009. The rst independent store in the United States was opened in Houston, Texas in 2011. The Miu Miu fashion show for Fall and Winter 2018-2019 was meant to embody a rebellious girl from the 80’s. The bright colors and mix of tweed and leather bring out the eccentricity in this 80’s girl. There is a unique mix of colors in this collection. There are purples, greens, reds, and greys mixed into the different pieces. For the fabrics, there are a lot of fabrics used that were very popular in the 80’s. For example, leath- er, tweed, houndstooth, and denim are all incorporated into this collection. Valentino Garavani is an Italian fashion designer who was born in Lombardy, Italy on May 11, 1932. Valentino is known for his glamorous red elegant dresses. Valentino made his rst internation- al fashion debut in Paris in 1962, However, the fashion house for the Valentino brand was founded in 1965 and was opened by Valentino and his business partner at the time, Giancarlo Giammetti. In the Fall/Winter 2018 ready-to-wear Valentino collection, creative director Pierpaolo Pic- cioli created a collection the embodied a new fresh tailored look. There was a strong romantic vibe in the collection that had volume with crisp lines and had provocative shapes without showing skin. The decoration was minimal as the collection was meant to focus on the intricate details that went into the construction of the garments.
