PERSONAL STATEMENT

PS

I graduated with a BSc (hons) of Architectural Design in September 2013 from City University College of Science and Technology (CUCST) and prior to that, I did my Diploma in Architecture Technology at same place. Ever since I was young, I had always been fascinated by the combination of art and function which architecture is made of. Though I don’t ind architecture easy, I enjoyed my education and work experiences very much, as it has been wonderful and rewarding. After my graduation in Diploma in Architecture Technology in 2008, I having offered as permanent staff as an Technical Assistant Architects at same place I having internship, it was a big irm and well-known company, I have gained more experience and skill during I at this company, especially in design skill and working drawings, such as authority drawings submission, prepare presentation board for Architect and prepare concept development design with full supervision, with inquisitive nature in myself, I could develop and gained my personal interest in architecture. It was a stepping-stone for me; as I had just graduated and needed an insight to the real world. After 1 year and half at SA Architects Sdn Bhd, I get offered working at abroad in Doha, Qatar with Muhibbah Engineering (M) Bhd, which is responsibility to construct for Catering Facilities building for New Doha International Airport. For me it was great opportunity to grab it, I never dream for working abroad before, this is such as valuable experience, even this a bit different with my role of study and ield before, but there are still same root of construction industrial and for me this is new experience to learn, explore and gained my knowledge. My position as an Junior Planner under planning and control department, I have to in-charge and responsibilities in-term of daily, weekly and monthly construction progress report this is regular work, beside that I have to monitor site of progress such as structure work and architectural work to make sure all work in scheduling and in order. At the same time I have to coordinate with subcontractor work and attend site meeting to report work progress to my head of department to make sure all work in track and follow the master of scheduling made. Even this is a new experience and environment; for me I try to catch-up everything I have to and develop my credibility to my head of department. Mr Rewa Mahar, his Head of department, whereas much helping me and give point to teach me about and method of planning and control in construction industrial. I’ve been success make him impress during in the supervision and intention by himself. After through all the assessment and task given, I could handle the works and responsibilities with minimal supervisions. Working in constructions ield its enhance my knowledge and experience in-term of construction method, planning and scheduling construction work, and technical knowledge in every aspect such as structure system, m&e, piping work and architectural work, all kind of this make me develop and increase in-term of technical knowledge and construction method. After 1 year and half in Doha, Qatar, I make decision to back homeland, Malaysia; for further study. Before I pursue my study, I choose temporary working at medium architect irm in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur; this is purposely to polish and call back my design skill and gained back my experience in architecture practice, because architecture is my personal interest and my major future to become professional architect. When i was in this irm, I’ve been handling with several proposal projects, such as medium till medium-high scale projects. I have do more residential and commercial work, with preparing schematic and planning design, liaised with local authority to make sure design complied with regulation, and liaising with other consultant and client by attended the progress meeting.

After I did my practice work, I decided to pursue my undergraduate study with major study of Bsc.(hons) Architectural design at City University College of Science and Technology (CUCST) for 2 years, with holding Diploma in Architecture Technology before, I have qualiied to enrol as second year study with exemption subjects. With leveraging past experience, I did extensive study with diligent and work hard. I give my full commitment through my study with helping and guided by experience lecturer. On September 22, 2013, I was awarded as best student by PAM (Malaysian Associated Architects) during annual exhibition students work. With persistence and diligent in my study I have completed my study with impressive accomplishment I developed a strong interest in sustainable and green design especially that I had implement in my architecture design work and make research about Dr Ken Yeang work, who is the pioneer of sustainable design in Asia. And make some case studies and research studies about Bjarke Ingels, who is the well-known Architect from Denmark, his work give me signiicant ideas through my project studio and new soul in designing factors and process. I believe environmental aspects should be a major part of the designing process, it beneits not only the users but to the environment as well. Malaysia is slightly behind in sustainable technology and I have ambitious plans to introduce the latest sustainable technology to Malaysia and implement it into my design when I practice in Malaysia professionally. I believe this will satisfy my personal interest in architecture and also fulils my desire of having a job dedicated to help the society. I’m currently continued working at same irm before. I love travel, because travel brings power and love back into our life. I’ve been to China, there was well known as emperor dynasty one time, I visit the historical place such as Forbidden City, The Great wall and The palace, there was great Chinese architecture inluence. Then I’ve been travel to Doha,Qatar which my work place. And I’ve been travel to Brisbane and Gold Coast, Australia, it such wonderful country with nicely planning development and city, I love visit this country because of this country more particularly develop with eco-system living and nature with modernism inluence through their buildings. It is a very humbling experience, I have always love venturing because I’ve discovering that more I got at foreign places and learning different history and culture, and make me understand my own roots and come from. My travel has also helped me develop good background knowledge in this scope of area. Special hanks for those have a time to read this humble statement; Truly and sincerely, MOHD SHAZMIE MOHD ROSZALAN Email: mohdshazmie@gmail.com Website: issuu.com/shazmie Website: http://www.lickr.com/photos/mohdshazmie/ H/p: +60192179556 (primary) Line 2: +60104365171 (secondary)

Mountain Villas

The house is intended to be part of a series of rock outrcrops extended from the rough slopes of the mountains. When observed as clusters on the hillside at dawn they generate ray of light source from the transparent areas of the house, visually interpreted as telescopic living spaces and rooms guided by concrete directional walls. The directional walls open up a central space which is transparent and double volume. The two wings forming the V shape is to have different viewing angles for the villa, portraying an idea of a villa as an object on the hills with a two way visual quality; a place to look and also a place to look from. Centrepiece of the villa is a double volume ‘Majlis’ sitting lower than entrance court to maximise views of the spectacular glacier mountains. Privacy is maintained from the guest areas of the house using horizontal and vertical screen walls, arranged in a directional manner to capture hte most of viewing pleasure on and around the mountains.

EXPERIENCE WORK UEM BHD Cluster Home @ Cyberjaya, Selangor, Malaysia Project Brief The elevated main pedestrian circulation ‘eco-deck’ becomes the single most important unifying element for the whole development. Circulation roads are kept out of view under the deck creating a development that is visually a ‘sea’of greenery and luscious landscaping. The ‘deck’ organizes and connects all the blocks and allows one to transverse the entire site from one end to the other without encounteringvehicular trafic. This is one area where social interaction is promoted. This elevated deck also incorporates and open into landscape ‘semi-private’ courtyards enclosed by the inwards looking residential blocks. Water features are incorporated together with water fountain and then together with trees, serves to cool the deck areas creating a more usable and sustainable deck. The integration between the elevated decks, courtyards and open spaces, provide a casual and relaxed environment for friendly encounters and social integration and encourage a ‘celebration of outdoor living’. To add light and ventilation to the carpark and circulation below, the deck is punctuated at intervals to draw light and air below.

ARCHITECTURE DESIGN 3 STUDY WORK ARCHITECTURE DESIGN 3 : PART 1 : URBAN TRAIL PETALING STREET, KUALA LUMPUR Synopsis of task

In architecture, the human activities and socio-cultural are among

the important aspects that inluence the design process and the options one can offer. In an urban context, these aspects have even greater inluence in creating the genius loci of the place. The distinguishable images of the place through the avenue of vistas, the nodes, the focal point, the landmark, the streetscape, the open space, the routes and the signage are among the urban elements that enliven the urban area inluenced by these aspects. In order to understand these aspects and its inluence to the urban design, one has to experience the elements themselves by taking a walk down the street of the urban area. To illustrate something comprehensively, one has to be extra observant and meticulous in analyzing things.

Shadow of casting studies

ARCHITECTURE DESIGN 3 - SITE ANALYSIS Climate of Kuala Lumpur Kuala Lumpur has a Tropical Rainforest climate which is warm and sunny, along with abundant rainfall, especially during the northeast monsoon season from October to March. Temperatures tend to remain constant. Maximums hover between 31 and 33 °C (88 and 91 °F) and have never exceeded 39.3 °C (102.7 °F), while minimums hover between 22 and 23.5 °C (72 and 74 °F) and have never fallen below 14.4 °C (57.9 °F). Kuala Lumpur typically receives minimum 2,600 mm (100 in) of rain annually; June and July are relatively dry, but even then rainfall typically exceeds 133 millimetres (5.2 in) per month. Flooding is a frequent occurrencein Kuala Lumpur whenever there is a heavy downpour, especially in the citycentre and downstream areas. Dust particles from forest ires from nearby Sumatra sometimes cast a haze over the region. It is a major source of pollution in the city together with open burning, emission from motor vehicles and construction work

Climatological Information

Malaysia wind direction

CITY UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY Southwest Monsoon Wind Movement May-June

Synthesis analysis result To cater the climatic problem at this site, the design should consider the sunheat, wind, rain and humidity.

This site is less affected by the southwest wind since it is located at the middle of area and wind velocity has been iltered by surrounding building context

Northeast Monsoon Wind Movement Nov-March

This site is much affected by the Northeast wind since is located radially angle and recieving more wind velocity, least prevented with tall building.

Shading devices and overhangs need to be provided to protect the building from direct solar heating and rain. Since most of the wind is coming from the North, the opening should be provided more on the facade. Since that area less emphasizing of green/landscape, the design of building should consider all that thing to implement thermal comfort and circumstances with realm

The proposed new development at precint 8, putrajaya of exclusive housing located at rapidly developing area with are series housing and commercial. according to site analysis, putrajaya is a planned city, located 25 km south of Kuala Lumpur, that serves as the federal administrative centre of Malaysia. Putrjaya had manageble by perbadanan putrajaya, whic is responsible for development at surrounding putrajaya.Putrajaya was shifted in 1999 from Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya, due to the overcrowding and congestion in the Kuala Lumpur areas. Now putrajaya has fully develop and more eficiency in term of public transportation system, hybrid trafic system and green system approach

METHODOLOGY This semester required design and planning a Housing project which is multi-functional and medium height building. With the added value of Exclusive Housing, there will be exposed to alternative problemsolving approaches that might generate a better living environment. The projects are speciically designed to realize the wide spectrum of creativity. Various approaches to design and the needs to look for new paradigm in housing design in the Malaysian Architectural scene is important as it gives exposure of international architecture.

DESIGN PHYLOSOPHY Yes Is More

ARCHITECTURE STYLE Architecture alchemy “Idea that by mixing traditional ingredients, when you combine them, they become gold”.

Sustainability “Focus on designing buildings where sustainability increases the quality of life”.

Hedonistic Sustainability “hedonistic sustainability is what happens when you stop thinking about buildings as structures and start thinking about them as ecosystems”.

PRECEDENT BUILDING 8 Housing, Denmark Based the research studies of this design of house,i have acknowledge a several ideas of hedonistic sustanability featuresin this houses, whereas 2 big courtyard with green spaces for outdoor purposes, and another one is inhabitat greenroof system, within two element has been apply for this design house, they have creat automatically ecosystem with term “hedonistic sustainability”

By saying yes to everybody, more interesting and demanding schemes are developed, rather than saying no and focus on one requirement.

Evolution not Revolution Ideas gradually evolve by adapting and improvising to the changes of the world.

Process A great idea may not provide the best solution. However, it may be the right answer for other questions, so it is never wise to throw anything away.

Ideas Often mixes conventional ingredients such as living, leisure, working, parking and shopping into new forms of symbiotic culture.

MARITM YOUTH HOUSE This one of my statement features design in the proposal, this is about gently deck system, whereas approach by big wooden deck and covered the entire site, this is to a generous public space and social space, so then the ideas is to turning a problem (poll tion) into a potential (the public space)

CITY UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY CONCEPTUAL IDEAS & DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

WHAT ARE “HEDONISTIC SUSTAINABILITY”?

THE 8 RESIDENCE SIGNATURE

HEDONISTIC SUSTAINABILITY INFLUENCE

This term having inspired with precint 8, putrajaya itself with “8” or Eight,so then generally design based on “EIGHT” shaped to create symbiosis between the realmand respectfull with circumstances with are nature inhabitat there. The 8 residences having emphasizes or translated into “hedonistic sustainability” to make that building give zero energy into other building context

MASSING DEVELOPMENT

Based on my research study of housing, i have make several research about type of housing, and then i have choosen one of Architects, which is much emphasize into “Hedonistic sustainability”,regarding with his statement, “ hedonistic sustainability is what happens when you stop thinking about buildings as structures and start thinking about them as ecosystem”

THERMAL COMFORT STUDY

The design process start with solid massing block which is entire site pushing up

Pinched the solid bloc until look like an 8 shape and will deine 2 big courtyard

The elevated terrace concept allowed breezie air directly into parking area and will release out into courtyard through out the hot air at open void of courtyard.

NATURAL VENTILATION The result has give much attractive view from the apartment through the waterfront

so then playing with the height of side to provide nice view through the lake and also make it cross axis through the lake and prominade area

The breezie wind easyly and fairly blow into the building and open deck area, this might create symbiosis of ecosystem
