Hispanic Entrepreneurship Training Program structure:
The 2024 Hispanic Entrepreneur Training Program (HETP), now celebrating its tenth year, runs from January to May with a total of 14 classroom sessions, including two in-person events: one class session and the graduation ceremony. This year, 55 entrepreneurs participated, representing over 14 counties, with one participant from New York. Notable county representation includes 12 from Bergen County, 11 from Hudson County, 4 from Essex County, 5 from Union County, 6 from Middlesex County, and 4 from Passaic County. The program encompassed a diverse range of industries, including construction, education, restaurants, business consulting, websites and social media, manufacturing, cleaning, health & wellness, technology, and travel & leisure.
Classroom sessions were combined with class instruction, including guest speakers, panels, workshops, and community-building exercises. Halfway through the program, in March 2024, each business owner went through a detailed individual assessment to identify their main hurdles and areas of focus for expansion and growth. Based on those specific needs, the students were paired up with a group of subject-matter expert coaches who provided individual guidance between May and July 2024.
Throughout the program, each student gained a deeper insight into their business through comprehensive assessments and developed customized coaching plans tailored to their personal and professional growth. Despite the ongoing challenges in the post-COVID-19 era, our mission remains to provide small businesses with access to essential resources for their success. Although engagement has been more challenging in the hybrid format, which combines online and in-person elements, we have effectively maintained participation and achieved a 95% graduation rate. This approach has enabled small businesses to continue operating while benefiting from the program.
This year, we introduced a new learning software that provided students with access to previous recordings, new masterclasses, and updated content throughout the course. We enhanced the program to better address the evolving needs of business owners in recent years. By surveying HETP participants, we gained insights into their new challenges and needs in the post-COVID-19 landscape. The updated curriculum covered essential topics such as virtual networking via LinkedIn, business planning and canvassing, access to capital, cybersecurity, operations, financing, legal considerations, and marketing strategies.

The Coaching Process
General Business Area Assessment
1 2
The students fill out a general coaching assessment form. This is done live during class. The objective is for them to let us know in which business areas they need assistance.
Personalized Business Assessment
The students will schedule a personalized 20-minute Zoom session to create a plan based on their immediate business goals, and to address their specific needs in chosen business areas from step #1.
3
Current Goals and Needs Evaluation
After the assessment, we create a personalized plan with a clear objective that involves different coaches experts in each area, to help drive the sessions toward their goals and needs.
4
Personalized Plan Assignment
Each student receives their plan via email with instructions and copies sent to all involved coaches. Additionally, it is logged into the business journey system to track their learning and milestones.
5
Coaching Sessions
The students start with the plan and let us know about their success stories.
