At Shebbear, we place a great emphasis on our varied and extensive Co-Curricular programme, offering over 70 different clubs over the year for our pupils to choose from. These activities are divided into four areas of interest: Action, Arts, Adventure and Academic and there is something to suit everyone!

Our Sport & Outdoor Education Department offers a wide range of team sports, giving every pupil the opportunity to take part in a physical activity that is rewarding and interesting. The activity programme enhances and develops individual and teamwork skills that are demonstrated in games lessons.

Golf

New for September 2022! Mr Grey will be running a modern pentathlon activity, with this term’s focus being on shooting and cross country training. This multi-discipline Olympic sport is increasing in popularity and consists of fencing, freestyle swimming, equestrian show jumping, pistol shooting and cross country running.

Curiosity, confidence and courage are embedded into our school values and ethos, and our adventure activities inspire pupils to be all of these things. Learning outside the classroom through adventurous activities is known to have significant educational benefits, helping to develop technical, intellectual and social skills and overcoming fear, anxiety and physical stress - so venture out of your comfort zone and give some of these exciting activities a go!

The Duke of Edinburgh Award and Ten Tors Challenge are both offered at Shebbear College. Both are highly regarded by colleges, universities and employers. More information can be found on their websites (www.dofe.org / www.tentors.org.uk). This weekly activity offers training in camp craft, first aid, navigation and general expedition skills which are applicable to both awards. In addition you will have the opportunity to seek guidance on the skills, volunteering and physical sections of the DofE award on a drop in basis.There is a focus on DofE in the Michaelmas and Trinity terms with Ten Tors being the main event in the Lent term.

Mr Quance offers a fantastic woodwork programme where students can learn how to shape, carve and produce wood products. Recent lessons have seen bird boxes and shelves being constructed.
