EMOTIONAL & VERBAL ABUSE are forms of domestic violence
Your experiences are valid.
GASLIGHTING Refusing to take accountability for actions, calling you "crazy," or accusing you of misremembering things/making things up, twisting your version of reality.
Common Types
Domestic violence is about power and control, not just physical abuse.
ISOLATION Gradually pulling you away from friends and/or family, trying to convince you that you should spend all your time with them, demonizing other people in your life to try and sabotoge your relationships with them.
CONTROLLING CHOICES
48.4% of women and 48.8% of men have experienced at least one form of psychological aggression by an intimate partner during their lifetime. In 2020, 95% of contacts to the National Domestic Violence Hotline reported experiencing emotional abuse.
You are not alone.
Demanding to know where you are and who you're with, telling you where you can/can't go, what you can/can't wear, who you can/can't talk to, sabotaging work opportunities or controlling when and where you work.
THREATS & HUMILIATION Insulting you, breaking down your self-esteem, telling you that "no one else will ever love you," threatening to leave you or cheat on you, threatening to harm themselves or others if you leave them.
SILENT TREATMENT / STONEWALLING Refusing to communicate after an argument, trying to make you "earn back" their attention or affection, passive aggressive behaviors, refusing to answer questions, discuss concerns, or acknowledge you
