2020-2021 Giving Highlights

•Seventh Consecutive Year Increase in Alumni and Friends Giving Gifts from individuals total $2,138,055 and represent 86% of all gifts to SVA, with alumni gifts totaling $1,956,725! YOU made it a banner year for unrestricted and worthy student giving. And because of YOU no qualified student is/was turned away—even in the midst of a pandemic. THANK YOU for sustaining Shenandoah Valley Academy!

•Seventh Consecutive Year 100% Board of Trustees Giving THANK YOU for your generosity and leadership, Trustees!

•Seventh Consecutive Year 100% Faculty and Staff Giving THANK YOU for tirelessly investing in your students and school, Faculty and Staff!

•Bainum Family Worthy Student Gift For a third year, the Bainum Family Foundation honored its co-founder and family matriarch, alumna Jane (Goyne) Bainum ’38, with a tuition assistance grant for worthy students. Their generous $75,000 legacy gift is life-changing and supported students and their families at the most critical time. THANK YOU, Bainum Family, for your generous leadership investment in worthy students!

•2020 Year-End Match Giving Challenge For the sixth year, generous donors pledged to match all unrestricted and worthy student gifts dollar-for-dollar up to $150,000 at year-end. Alumni and Friends, your giving response of $212,390 to the Match Challenge was incredible. Total Match giving was responsible for more than $362,390. What a big difference this made for worthy students. THANK YOU for your consistent, generous support, Match Donor-Investors!

•Zirkle Gymnasium Renovation-Addition In addition to sustaining unrestricted and worthy student gifts this school year, you gave another $1,736,080 to the renovation and addition for Zirkle Gymnasium. After making the prudent decision to pause the project in Summer 2020, the plan was to move forward with construction in the Fall. However, rising costs threatened to cause additional delays. But one of you – a committed and dedicated alumni donor – stepped forward and gave to cover the project shortfall allowing the Zirkle Gym project to move forward after only a nine-month delay. This progression of events, we believe, has made this a miracle project and here’s why: Today Zirkle Gym is a fully funded, fixed price contract, ZERO DEBT project, with 96% of gifts given by graduates of SVA! Thank you to leadership donors and ALL who invested in the gift of this wonderful campus transforming improvement for students!! (See pg. 3)

For the 2020-2021 school year, when most needed, your prayers and financial investment for SVA soared!! Your generosity yielded a miraculous result, shoring up this very special school and its precious students in uncertain times. Dear Alumni and Friends, what an incredible difference you make “For Shenandoah, Shenando-ah!” We are so very thankful for you!!

With heartfelt appreciation,

Janel Haas Ware ’86, Director of Development & Alumni Relations
