28 February - 12 April Chris Rigby is a landscape painter whose work embraces the physical process of representing the nature of things. The work in this exhibition follows on from his 2012 exhibition 30 Days of Light at Shetland Museum and Archives and
Between Rocks & Hard Places represents a deepening of his relationship with Shetland. During a wet and windy five week stay last year he returned to explore much that he had missed the first time round while making further exciting discoveries in his favourite locations such as Muckle Roe.

Love Is Strange (15) 25 March
After nearly four decades together, Ben (John Lithgow) and George (Alfred Molina) finally tie the knot in an idyllic wedding ceremony in lower Manhattan. But when George loses his job soon after, the couple must sell their apartment and - victims of the relentless New York City real estate market temporarily live apart until they can find an affordable new home. Forced to stay with neighbours and relations, Ben and George struggle with the pain of separation, whilst simultaneously facing the challenges of the intergenerational tensions and capricious family dynamics of their new living arrangements.
Pelo Malo (15)
15 April
Nine year old Junior (Samuel Lange Zambrano) has stubbornly curly “bad hair.” For his yearbook picture he would like to have it straightened, like a fashionable pop-star, but his obsession with his looks unleashes a tidalwave of homophobic panic in his mother, Marta (Samantha Castillo).
Still Life (15) 1 April
Life for the unassuming John May (Eddie Marsan) has always revolved around his work for the local council in South London, finding the next of kin of those who have died alone. Profoundly dedicated to his work, he believes that everyone deserves a dignified exit, and writes eulogies and organises funerals for those who wouldn’t have them otherwise. But when a new case - an elderly alcoholic in a flat directly opposite his own - hits him harder than usual, he journeys outside London to track down the man’s long-abandoned daughter (Joanne Froggatt, Downton Abbey). Against the odds, the two lonely souls are drawn to each other - and John’s outlook starts to open to life’s possibilities.
The Philadelphia Story (U) 8 April
Set among the upper class in 1930s Philadelphia, this irreverent classic romantic comedy features radiant performances by the legendary Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn and James Stewart. On the eve of her marriage to an uninteresting man, a headstrong socialite jousts verbally with her charming ex-husband, drinks too much champagne, and flirts outrageously with a handsome reporter.
The Duke of Burgundy (18) 22 April
Sex, bondage, and butterflies: two women explore the extremes of carnal desire in this kinky, deliciously twisted tale of erotic obsession. In a crumbling European estate, butterfly researcher Cynthia (Sidse Babett Knudsen) and her lover Evelyn (Chiara D’Anna) repeatedly enact a sadomasochistic role-playing game, with Cynthia as the stern mistress and Evelyn her subservient sex slave. But as the lines between fantasy and reality begin to blur, and Cynthia grows increasingly uneasy with Evelyn’s insatiable appetite for punishment, their relationship is pushed to the limit.
My Name is Salt (U) 29 April
Award winning documentary by director Farida Pacha. Year after year, for an endless eight months, thousands of families move to a desert in India to extract salt from the burning earth. Every monsoon their salt fields are washed away, as the desert turns into sea. And still they return, taking pride in producing the whitest salt in the world.

Malakoff a Shetland Arts Case Study
Shetland Arts’ bi-annual Open exhibition for amateur, professional and student artists and craft-makers is followed, in the intervening year, with an exhibition by its four category winners. With funding and support from Shetland Arts, the winners from 2014’s Open - Susan Timmins, Ana Arnett, Cheryl Jamieson and Fionn Arnett - have taken engineering firm Malakoff Ltd. as the starting point for their show.
18
And with great enthusiasm and support from the staff at Malakoff Ltd., the artists have developed new work exploring aspects of the company’s operation. Susan Timmins explains about her photographic installation, “It reflects my experience of the Malakoff over a five month period: red buildings, red boiler suits; welding, grinding, cutting; blasting, painting; diving; boats winched up the slip, boats released; nuts, bolts, pipes, rods; flashes, sparks; voices echoing, singing, whistling; sudden silences. I was always mindful that the camera is intrusive and that my questions were numerous. I am very grateful to everyone at the Malakoff for their patience and good humour.” Cheryl Jamieson explains, “I’ve always loved da Nuthoose at da Malakoff and this led to me designing panels that are nut-shaped. It’s been a great experience for me, especially working with the others, and I’m Im looking forward to seeing how it all ag e: comes together. “ Ch ery lJ am ies on
