SATURDAY 10 FEBRUARY, 7.30pm Mareel £15
Northern Flyway is a newly created performance by Inge Thomson and recently arrived Shetland resident Jenny Sturgeon, exploring the ecology, folklore, symbolism and mythology of birds and birdsong. Drawing on such sources as the extensive field-recordings of musician/composer and birdsong expert Magnus Robb, the duo have worked with singer/multi-instrumentalist Sarah Hayes (Admiral Fallow) and the renowned vocal sculptor Jason Singh to create this brand-new piece. Jenny’s background as a biologist and Inge’s home island of Fair Isle, have contributed to an evocative piece, combining vocal and instrumental composition with sonic experimentation and lush visuals. Northern Flyway will also be performed at the Tron Theatre as part of Celtic Connections 2018.

Mountain SUNDAY 28 JANUARY, 1.30pm A unique cinematic and musical collaboration between the Australian Chamber Orchestra and BAFTA-nominated director Jennifer Peedom, Mountain is a dazzling exploration of our obsession with mountains. Only three centuries ago, climbing a mountain would have been considered close to lunacy. The idea scarcely existed that wild landscapes might hold any sort of attraction. Peaks were places of peril, not beauty. Why, then, are we now drawn to mountains in our millions? Mountain shows us the spellbinding force of high places – and their ongoing power to shape our lives and our dreams. Mareel £9 / £7.50

Molly’s Game (15)
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (15)
A smart and entertaining directorial debut from writer/producer Aaron Sorkin, creator of The West Wing, starring Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba.
It’s been seven months since her daughter was murdered and Mildred Hayes is fed up. Fuelled by grief and outraged that the investigation has gone quiet, she provokes the local police department with a series of messages plastered on three disused billboards outside her home town. So begins a rapidly escalating and very public feud between Mildred and the town’s venerated police chief.
This exhilarating drama is based on the true story of Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier who ran the world's most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being arrested. Her players included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob.
Holocaust Memorial Day
The Commuter (12A)
Destination Unknown (12A)
A smart and intense action thriller starring Liam Neeson and Vera Farmiga.
A special screening to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
Insurance salesman Michael is contacted by a mysterious stranger on his daily commute home, and challenged to uncover the identity of a hidden passenger on his train before the last stop. As he works against the clock to solve the puzzle, he realises he is unwittingly caught up in a criminal conspiracy, one that carries life and death stakes for himself and his fellow passengers.
This powerful documentary blends intimate testimony with archive footage to bring the stories of twelve Holocaust survivors to the screen. We meet those who survived in hiding, those who fought as partisans, and those who endured camps. Their stories do not end with liberation – we learn how they survived the chaos that came afterwards, and of their attempts to build new lives. They and their friends run amok, unsupervised and frequently getting under the feet of Bobby, the tough-but-tender manager of the Magic Castle Motel, where Moonee lives with her explosive 22-year-old mother Halley.

When her husband Walter dies, 85-year-old Marjorie decides to replace him with a Prime – an artificially intelligent avatar that looks and sounds exactly like Walter did when he was 40. This Prime provides Marjorie with much-needed support and warmth, but for her daughter, it feels like an interloper.
