Over 35 years ago the construction of the Sullom Voe oil terminal transformed the lives of many Shetlanders. Ted 2 (Cert: TBC)
COMEDY
Entourage (15)
Magic Mike XXL (15)
The much-anticipated big-screen version of the award-winning hit HBO series reunites the show’s original cast, led by Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara and Jeremy Piven. Movie star Vincent Chase (Grenier), together with his boys, Eric (Connolly), Turtle (Ferrara) and Johnny (Dillon), are back...and back in business with super agent-turned-studio head Ari Gold (Piven). Some of their ambitions have changed, but the bond between them remains strong as they navigate the capricious and often cut-throat world of Hollywood.
Picking up the story three years after Mike (Channing Tatum) bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, Magic Mike XXL finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.
TED 2
Seth MacFarlane returns with this hilarious sequel to 2012’s record-breaking comedy, Ted. Three years on from the events of Ted, the potty-mouthed bear (MacFarlane) has married his girlfriend, Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth), and together they decide to start a family. He asks his long-time friend John (Mark Wahlberg) to help them out via artificial insemination, but in order to qualify to be a parent, Ted will have to prove he’s a person in a court of law.
MUSIC ON FILM AMY
(15)
Director Asif Kapadia presents a compelling look at the life of late singer Amy Winehouse. When Amy Winehouse passed away in 2011 at the age of 27, her death rocked the music world. Winner of five Grammy Awards for her album Back to Black, Winehouse’s distinctively smoky tones made her one of the most popular music artists of the last 20 years. Her singles “Rehab”, “Stronger than Me” and “Love is a Losing Game” were all award-winning successes and helped her establish a worldwide fanbase. Amy delves behind the headlines and explores the life of this troubled yet hugely talented performer, tracing her rise to superstardom from childhood to breakthrough success and beyond. What emerges is a haunting, gripping portrayal of success, and a woman whose personal demons often overshadowed her triumphs.
Boychoir (PG) From acclaimed director François Girard (The Red Violin) comes the inspirational story of a rebellious kid with a remarkable gift who is challenged by a demanding teacher to make the most unlikely of dreams come true. Stet, a troubled and angry 11-year-old orphan from a small Texas town, ends up at a Boy Choir school back East after the death of his single mom. Completely out of his element, he finds himself in a battle of wills with a demanding Choir Master who recognizes a unique talent in this young boy as he pushes him to discover his creative heart and soul in music. Starring two-time Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman, Oscar winner Kathy Bates, two-time Emmy winner Eddie Izzard, three-time Oscar nominee Debra Winger, Josh Lucas (A Beautiful Mind) and Kevin McHale (Glee).
Love & Mercy (12A) Biopic starring John Cusack, Paul Dano & Elizabeth Banks. Love & Mercy presents an unconventional portrait of Brian Wilson, the mercurial singer, songwriter and leader of The Beach Boys. Set against the era-defining catalog of Wilson’s music, the film intimately examines the personal voyage and ultimate salvation of the icon whose success came at extraordinary personal cost.

Minions (U)
Inside Out (U)
When Earth is taken over by the overly-confident Boov, an alien race in search of a new place to call home, all humans are promptly relocated, while all Boov get busy reorganising the planet. But when one resourceful girl, Tip (Rihanna) manages to avoid capture, she finds herself the accidental accomplice of a banished Boov named Oh (Jim Parsons). The two fugitives realise there’s a lot more at stake than intergalactic relations as they embark on the road trip of a lifetime.
Evolving from single-celled yellow organisms at the dawn of time, Minions live to serve, but find themselves working for a continual series of unsuccessful masters, from T. Rex to Napoleon. Without a master to grovel for, the Minions fall into a deep depression. But one minion, Kevin, has a plan; accompanied by his pals Stuart and Bob, Kevin sets forth to find a new evil boss for his fellow minions to follow. Their search leads them to Scarlet Overkill (Sandra Bullock), the world’s first-ever super-villainess. They travel from the frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in mod London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind from annihilation.
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions - Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
SONG OF THE SEA
Song of the Sea (U)
10
From the creators of the Academy Award-nominated The Secret of Kells comes a breathtakingly gorgeous, hand-drawn masterpiece. Based on the Irish legend of the Selkies, Song of the Sea tells the story of the last seal-child, Saoirse, and her brother Ben, who go on an epic journey to save the world of magic and discover the secrets of their past. Pursued by the owl witch Macha and a host of ancient and mythical creatures, Saoirse and Ben race against time to awaken Saoirse’s powers and keep the spirit world from disappearing forever. As enthralling for adults as it is for children young and old, Song of the Sea is a wonder of magical storytelling and visual splendor that is destined to become a classic.

Mareel Cinema Thursday 2 July Hailed as a remarkable, groundbreaking work during two sell-out runs at the National Theatre, the feature film adaptation of London Road reunites the award-winning team, directed by Rufus Norris (Broken) with a script by Alecky Blythe and music by Adam Cork.
With an ensemble cast that includes Olivia Colman, Kate Fleetwood, Anita Dobson and Tom Hardy, London Road documents the events that shook Suffolk in 2006, when the quiet rural town of Ipswich was shattered by the discovery of the bodies of five women. The residents of London Road had struggled for years with frequent soliciting and
kerb-crawling on their street. The film follows the community who found themselves at the epicentre of the tragic events, and is based on interviews conducted with the road’s real residents. Using their own words set to an innovative musical score, London Road tells a moving story of ordinary people coming together during the darkest of experiences.

A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence (12A) 1 July
Swedish language, English subtitles. Sam and Jonathan are two travelling salesmen peddling novelty items - mostly unsuccessfully. Like modernday Don Quixote and Sancho, they take us on a kaleidoscopic journey through multiple human destinies. It is a trip that shows us beauty in one moment, pettiness in another and the humour and tragedy within us all, one that evokes the grandeur of life as well as the ultimate frailty of humanity.
Girlhood (15) 8 July
Fed up with her abusive family situation, lack of school prospects and the “boys’ law” in the neighborhood, Marieme starts a new life after meeting a group of three free-spirited girls. She changes her name, her style, drops out of school and starts stealing to be accepted into the gang. When her home situation becomes unbearable, Marieme seeks solace in an older man who promises her money and protection. Realizing this sort of lifestyle will never result in the freedom and independence she truly desires, she finally decides to take matters into her own hands.
Coherence (15) 15 July
On the night of an astronomical anomaly, eight friends at a dinner party experience a troubling chain of reality bending events. Part cerebral sci-fi and part relationship drama, COHERENCE
Coherence is a tightly focused, intimately shot film whose tension intensely ratchets up as its numerous complex mysteries unfold.
Phoenix (12A) 22 July
German language, English subtitles. June, 1945. Badly injured, her face destroyed, Auschwitz survivor Nelly returns to her hometown, Berlin. She is accompanied by Lene, an employee of a Jewish agency and Nelly’s friend from the pre-war days. Having barely recovered from facial surgery, Nelly ignores Lene’s warnings and sets out to find her husband, Johnny - the love of her life who, by refusing to abandon their marriage, protected her from Nazi persecution for so long. Nelly’s family has been murdered in the Holocaust. Johnny is convinced that his wife, too, is dead. When Nelly finally tracks him down, he recognizes nothing but an unnerving resemblance and doesn’t believe it could really be her. Hoping to secure her family’s inheritance, Johnny suggests to Nelly that she take on the identity of his late wife. Nelly agrees: She becomes her own imposter. She wants to know whether Johnny loved her - and whether he betrayed her. Nelly wants her old life back.
Clouds of Sils Maria (15) 29 July
Juliette Binoche, Kristen Stewart, and Chloë Grace Moretz light up this exhilarating, behind-the-scenes look at art, acting and aging from acclaimed director Olivier Assayas (Carlos). Maria Enders (Binoche) is a renowned actress at the peak of her career. But when she’s cast opposite
a young Hollywood starlet with a penchant for scandal (Moretz) in a new production of the play that first made her famous, Maria must come to terms with what it means to be a middle-aged actress in a youthobsessed industry. Retreating high into the mountains with her personal assistant (a revelatory Stewart, first-ever American winner of a César acting award), Maria confronts her personal demons and prepares for the most important role of her life. Set amidst the scenic splendor of the Swiss Alps, Clouds of Sils Maria is propelled by tour-de-force performances from three actresses at the top of their game.
The Long Good Friday (18) 5 August
John Mackenzie’s classic ganster drama featuring standout performances from the late Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirrem. In a gripping and often violent drama about the London underworld and the Irish Republican Army, a leading gangster comes up against more than he can handle. Harold (Bob Hoskins) is a powerful mob boss whose turf covers the London waterfront. Harold guarantees the security of a major land development project that involves a large investment from U.S. corporations. Just when everything seems to be going as it should, the Easter weekend dawns and Harold’s right-hand men are violently murdered while much of his property is blown up. Completely at a loss to explain these attacks, it takes some digging before he discovers that the government’s urban planning chief and a blackmail scheme have made him a random target of the IRA.

Shetland Youth Arts Festival A Shetland Arts Case Study
Shetland Youth Arts Festival - 70 young people, 18 workshops, 6 art forms, 4 bands, 2 days and 1 gig In May, Shetland hosted the first ever Cashback for Creativity Youth Arts Festival, held at Mareel, Shetland Museum and Islesburgh Complex. The weekend saw 70 young people from across the isles participate in a series of workshops including: drama, film and editing, song writing, music, craft and dance. On Friday, the young people all met at Mareel. Participants took part in two taster workshops in the afternoon and in the evening, gathered for a live gig organised by the Shetland Young Promoters Group featuring the bands AutoPilot, Mis Behavin’, FB and Blind Summit (winner of the 2015 Battle of the Bands). The gig showcased the range of talent on display and
18
musical talent within the isles whilst providing an opportunity for many of the young people to experience their first live gig. On Saturday, the young people could specialise in an art form, and worked with the workshop providers to create a showcase to be shared at the end of the Festival.
Feedback from young people, parents/guardians and the wider community has been incredible. The project team would like to thank the workshop providers, staff team, partners and funders for their support. The event provided young people with the opportunity to learn new skills and show off their creative talents, and we would hope that many of them will now connect into community based groups to allow their talent to continue to flourish. #ShetlandYAF #YouthWorkChangesLives
