Edinburgh String Quartet “North South East West” Wednesday 15 November An emotionally charged programme featuring the most intense of Haydn’s Op 20 quartets; a work which has been described as Janácek’s “Manifesto on Love”; and Tchaikovsky’s second quartet, regarded by the composer in the year it was written as his finest work. This concert will also feature a new quartet by Tom Harrold as part of the Edinburgh Quartet’s “North-South-East-West” Project in which the Quartet will be joined on stage by local amateur string players.

Neil Georgeson returns with another eclectic yet integrated conceptual programme which focuses this time on dance music. Including Johann Strauss' incandescently famous Blue Danube waltz in the form of Schultz-Evler's spectacular and fiendish Fantasy, and Stravinsky's Three Movements from Petrushka, a colourful and exceedingly virtuosic reworking of his famous ballet. Also featuring Grieg's masterful reworkings of Hardanger fiddle tunes, as well as contemporary pieces making innovative use of technology by Johannes Kreidler and Patrick Nunn, and music by Chopin, Haydn and Schubert.

Here at Mareel there is always a buzz of activity behind the scenes as our music, audio and film students enjoy the hands-on experience of working in a real venue. Join Shetland College UHI Music Students as they perform a variety of musical styles at their first live event of the academic year.
> Creativity Club Stage 1 is changing! Shetland Arts introduces Creativity Club, a series of arts workshops for 7 - 11 year olds that will encourage creativity and learning across many different artforms. The first five-week block will explore a range of drama skills, while developing confidence, encouraging creativity and having lots of fun! The sessions will culminate in a brand new performance for friends and family in the Mareel Auditorium, devised by the children themselves. Sessions run for 2 hours (with a short break in the middle) and are often very active, so participants should wear clothes that they can move comfortably in. Saturday afternoons, 1pm - 3pm in Mareel from November 11th to December 9th. And keep an eye out for information on the next block of Creativity Club - film animation!

The band, known for tracks like She's So Lovely and This Ain't a Love Song, will perform the record in full on the tour. Scouting for Girls have made three albums since their debut, including Everybody Wants to Be on TV (2010) and Still Thinking About You (2015).
