Chrissy was a sickly child, so no one expected her to live to a ripe old age. Nevertheless, this Scottish woman is now 95, frail but full of life. Today, Chrissy's 91-year-old boyfriend Bill is coming over for a nice evening that will pass by according to the slow rhythm of age. This is an intimate, heartwarming portrait of love in older age, full of recognisable, comedic moments.
Oscar Wilde wrote, "All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does. That's his." With these words, Ken Wardrop opens the documentary in which he travels to America to investigate the role mothers play in the lives of Oklahoma's tough guys. From the drug addict trying to reconnect with his mother, to the man whose mother has Alzheimer's, Wardrop's compassionate observation reveals the universality that underlies this most particular relationship.

> Comedy
Hunt for the Wilderpeople
(12A) A box office smash in New Zealand and a favourite at this year’s Screenplay, Hunt for the Wilderpeople is a warm and affecting comedy with a serious message. Ricky Baker, a defiant young city kid, is sent by child welfare services to live in the country with foster aunt Bella and cantankerous foster uncle Hec (Sam Neill). When Bella suddenly passes away and child services decide to take him back to a care home, Ricky runs away into the bush with uncle Hec in pursuit. When child services jump to the conclusion that a mentally unstable Hec has abducted Ricky, triggering a national manhunt, the two have to overcome their differences to survive.
Sausage Party (15)
The twisted brainchild of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, creators of Pineapple Express and This is the End, this outrageously profane comedy might look like a magical Pixar movie – but it's most definitely not for children. Down at Shopwell's supermarket, the food items have just one goal in life: to be picked by customers. They believe these benevolent giants will then whisk them off to paradise. All they have to do is remain pure and pristine until they're chosen. That means Frank the sausage is unable to consummate his relationship with alluring bun Brenda. But Frank and his friends are about to discover the awful truth about what awaits them!
> Thriller
The Girl on the Train
(15) A brilliantly taut thriller based on the bestselling novel by Paula Hawkins. Rachel (Emily Blunt), devastated by her recent divorce, spends her daily commute in to work in New York distracting herself by fantasising about the couple who live in a house that her train passes every day. To her they seem like the perfect couple, and she creates a wonderful dream life for them in her head. Then, one morning, she witnesses something shocking happen there. The next day, she wakes up with a horrible hangover, and no memory of the night before.
Inferno
(12A) Tom Hanks reprises his Da Vinci Code role as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon in director Ron Howard’s thrilling adaptation of author Dan Brown's bestselling novel Inferno. When Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories. Together, they race across Europe and against the clock to try and stop a madman from unleashing a global virus that would wipe out half of the world's population.
> Drama
The Girl with all The Gifts
(15) A smart and stylish take on the zombie movie from Scottish director Colm McCarthy. In a scientific facility in the near future, uniformed children live in bare concrete cells, strapping themselves into wheelchairs for delivery to daily classroom instruction. These youngsters are ‘hungries’, victims of a highly infectious virus that has devastated mankind. They are also subjects for head scientist Dr Caldwell, who believes that they hold the key to a cure for the virus. One little girl, Melanie, excels at lessons and loves her teacher, Miss Justineau. When the centre is attacked by a crazed mob of hungries, Melanie, Miss Justineau and Dr Caldwell escape and go on the run.
Hell or High Water
9
(15) A superb contemporary Western featuring a magnificent performance from Jeff Bridges. Texan brothers Toby (Chris Pine) and Tanner (Ben Foster) come together after years of estrangement to rob branches of the bank threatening to foreclose on their family land. For them, the hold-ups are just part of a last-ditch scheme to take back a future that seemed to have been stolen from under them. Justice seems to be theirs, until they find themselves on the radar of Texas Ranger Marcus (Bridges), looking for one last grand pursuit on the eve of his retirement, and his half-Comanche partner, Alberto (Gil Birmingham).

THE END is an explosive new dance performance choreographed by Jack Webb, 'One To Watch' winner at the Sunday Herald Scottish Culture Awards 2016.
THE END aims to confront the dramatic notion of end points: the end of the world, the end of life as we know it, the end of good, bad and all in between. With a stunning, pulsating soundtrack and a sleazy, dead-of-night set, three dancers explore their own sense of mortality, excess, connection, disconnection and endurance, with mob interjections from a team of local participants.

Trolls
(TBC) From the creators of Shrek comes the smartest, funniest, most irreverent animated comedy of the year. Chevalier (18)
Green Room (18)
Things to Come (12A)
El Sur (The South) (PG)
In Greek with English subtitles. In the middle of the Aegean Sea, six men on a fishing trip on a luxury yacht decide to play a game. During this game, things will be compared, measured, songs will be butchered and blood will be tested. Friends will become rivals and rivals become hungry. At the end of the journey, when the game is over, the man who wins will be the best man. And he will wear on his smallest finger the victory ring: the Chevalier.
In French with English subtitles. Isabelle Huppert gives a wonderful performance as a self-possessed woman confronting unexpected changes in her life and work in Mia Hansen-Løve’s heartfelt and perceptive portrait of middle age. Nathalie is a philosophy teacher in a Parisian high school. Passionate about her job, married and with two children, her time is divided between her family, work, her former students, and her very demanding mother. One day, her husband tells her that he is leaving her to live with another, younger, woman, and Nathalie realises she must reinvent her life rather than be defeated by it.
Captain Fantastic (15)
Viggo Mortensen steals the show in this intelligent, warm and humorous drama. Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, isolated from society, devoted father Ben (Mortensen) dedicates his life to transforming his six young children into extraordinary adults. But when a tragedy strikes the family, they are forced to leave this self-created paradise and begin a journey into the outside world that challenges Ben’s idea of what it means to be a parent, and brings into question everything he's taught his children.
A brilliantly crafted and wickedly fun horror-thriller starring Patrick Stewart and Star Trek’s Anton Yelchin, who sadly died earlier this year. Down on their luck punk rock band The Ain't Rights are finishing up a long and unsuccessful tour, and are about to call it quits when they get an unexpected booking at an isolated, run-down club deep in the backwoods of Oregon. What seems merely to be a third-rate gig escalates into something much more sinister when they witness an act of violence that they weren't meant to see. Now trapped backstage, they must face off against the club's depraved owner, Darcy Banker (Stewart).
In Spanish with English subtitles. A welcome digital restoration of Victor Erice’s exquisitely beautiful, profoundly moving drama from 1983. Recalling her youth in northern Spain in the 1950s and her relationship with her beloved father, Estrella realises how little she knew about him. Raised in the south, he’d had his secrets... Delicate, nuanced, mysterious, Erice’s second feature (after The Spirit of the Beehive, made ten years earlier) reveals his abiding fascination with memory and missed opportunities, longing and loss, the passing of time and the links between private dreams and political realities.
Son of Saul (15)
This searing, immersive drama from Hugarian director László Nemes won the award for Best Foreign Language Film at this year’s Oscars. Auschwitz, 1944. Saul Ausländer is a member of the Sonderkommando, Jewish prisoners forced to assist the Nazis in the machinery of extermination. He dedicates himself to one last desperate act of moral redemption, setting himself against both the Nazis and his fellow inmates. Immaculately assembled with ingenious use of sound and a tunnel vision style of cinematography, Son of Saul is both deeply harrowing and an unforgettable cinematic experience.
