When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years. To combat the Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, controlled by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenceless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) - to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as the last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
England during the Civil War. A small group of deserters flee from raging battle through an overgrown field. They are captured by two men: O’Neil and Cutler. O’Neil (Michael Smiley), an alchemist, forces the group to aid him in his search to find treasure that he believes is buried in the field. The group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear the treasure might be something other than gold, they slowly fall victim to the terrifying energies inside the field. A Field In England stars Michael Smiley (Kill List), Peter Ferdinando (Tony), Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen), Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), Richard Glover (Sightseers) and Ryan Pope (Ideal).
Italian language film with English subtitles. Legendary directors the Taviani brothers won the Golden Bear at the 2012 Berlin Film Festival for this, their first film after a five-year hiatus. Each year the inmates of Rome’s high security Rebibbia prison, incarcerated mostly for mafia crimes, put on a play. The film follows the rehearsals and performance of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, blurring the boundaries between reality and art, as snippets of the performance blend with interviews with the prisoner actors. Beautifully shot in alternating black-and-white and vibrant colour, Caesar Must Die is a moving film that mines the depths of Shakespeare’s text to find the vital themes of crime and redemption, so resonant with the film’s cast.

The Smurfs 2 3D & 2D
This Is The End
Showing from Fri 2 Aug
Showing from Fri 2 Aug
Tickets on sale: Tues 30 Jul
Tickets on sale: Tues 30 Jul
In this sequel to the hybrid live action/animated family blockbuster comedy The Smurfs, the evil wizard Gargamel creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties that he hopes will let him harness the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence. But when he discovers that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants - and only a secret spell that Smurfette knows can turn the Naughties into real Smurfs Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette and brings her to Paris, where he has been winning the adoration of millions as the world’s greatest sorcerer. It’s up to Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity to return to our world, reunite with their human friends Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her! Will Smurfette, who has always felt different from the other Smurfs, find a new connection with the Naughties Vexy and Hackus - or will the Smurfs convince her that their love for her is True Blue?
Seth Rogen (The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up) teams up with regular writing partner Evan Goldberg (Superbad, Pineapple Express) to take a directorial stab at that rarest of genres: the apocalypse comedy. And a brilliant stab it is too! As a series of apparently natural catastrophes begin to devastate Los Angeles, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Jay Baruchel, Emma Watson and other young celebs – all playing themselves – gather at fellow brat packer James Franco’s place to party out Armageddon. Much booze and knucklegrazing humour are obviously a given, but when supplies of both run out, along with what passes for food, relationships begin to take the strain. Eventually the survivors are forced to leave the house, and to face up to the realities of their situation and the true nature of friendship.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters 3D & 2D Showing from Fri 9 Aug Tickets on sale: Tues 6 Aug This sequel to Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief (2010) is based on the second in Rick Riordan’s fantasy series about a 12-year-old boy with dyslexia and ADHD who discovers he is the son of Poseidon. In the second film, Percy and his fellow demigods journey to retrieve the Golden Fleece, their only protection against the beasts that populate the Sea of Monsters. Most of the cast from the first film returns for Sea of Monsters, including Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson, Brandon T. Jackson as Grover Underwood, and Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth Chase. The film is directed by Thor Freudenthal, who takes over from Chris Columbus, director of the first movie.
The Heat Showing from Fri 9 Aug Tickets on sale: Tues 6 Aug FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is a very skilled and effective investigator, but is despised by her fellow agents for her arrogance and condescending attitude. Hale (Demián Bichir), Ashburn’s boss at the New York FBI field office who is being promoted, sends her to Boston to investigate a drug kingpin named Larkin with the promise that she would be considered as his replacement if she can solve the case while showing the ability to work effectively with others. Once in Boston, she is partnered with Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy), a skilled but foulmouthed and rebellious police officer with the Boston Police Department. Ashburn’s by-the-book philosophy clashes with Mullins’ rugged and violent style of police work. But when they join forces to bring down the ruthless drug lord, they become the last thing anyone expected: buddies. Directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) and written by Kate Dippold (Parks and Recreation).

We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks
Tickets on sale: Tues 6 Aug
Showing from Fri 9 Aug
In the fame-obsessed world of Los Angeles, a group of teenagers take us on a thrilling and disturbing crime-spree in the Hollywood hills. Based on true events, the group, who were fixated on the glamorous life, tracked their celebrity targets online, and stole more than $3 million in luxury goods from their homes. Their victims included Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, and Rachel Bilson, and the gang became known in the media as “The Bling Ring”. In The Bling Ring, Oscar Winning filmmaker Sofia Coppola takes us inside the world of these teens, where their youthful naiveté and excitement is amplified by today’s culture of celebrity and luxury brand obsession. The members of the Bling Ring introduce us to temptations that any teenager would find hard to resist. And what starts out as youthful fun spins out of control, revealing a sobering view of our modern culture.
Tickets on sale: Tues 6 Aug Filmed with the startling immediacy of unfolding history, Academy Award-winning director Alex Gibney details the creation of Julian Assange’s controversial website Wikileaks, which facilitated the largest security breach in US history. Hailed by some as free-speech heroism and by others as terrorism, Assange’s revelations couldn’t have happened without the help of Breanna (aka Bradley) Manning, the brilliant, troubled young soldier who downloaded hundreds of thousands of documents from classified US military and diplomatic servers, revealing the behind-the-scenes workings of the government’s international diplomacy and military strategy. We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks is a riveting, multilayered tale about transparency in the information age and our ever-elusive search for the truth.

The director and star of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise march forward in time to update the legend of The Lone Ranger, with Johnny Depp playing the character Tonto. Introduced as a washed-up sideshow oddity, Tonto is asked to explain how John Reid transmuted into the wrong-righting masked hero, and his subsequent account forms the basis of this beautifully realised film. It embraces many staggering set pieces, kicking off with bandits derailing a train transporting their notorious leader to the gallows. Armie Hammer (The Social Network) is suitably upstanding as the Ranger/Reid, whose past is nonetheless revealed as less noble than had been imagined.
In this horror based on actual events of 1970, the Perron family move into their remote dream house, but things soon take a turn for the sinister. Mysterious bruises afflict Mrs Perron (Lili Taylor), and it’s clear they’re living with an unseen malign force. In desperation they call in acclaimed demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson, Insidious, and Vera Farmiga, Orphan), who are themselves pretty spooked by the increasingly nasty goings on, but who are determined to exorcise the demons. Director James Wan’s (Saw, Insidious) latest and best spine-tingler cunningly mixes suggested and actual shock to ramp up the tension to new levels. Period clothes, cars and decor give The Conjuring an added, and therefore terrifying, authenticity.
In this inspired, genre-twisting new film, Oscar-nominated writer/ director Sarah Polley discovers that the truth depends on who’s telling it. Polley is both filmmaker and detective as she investigates the secrets kept by a family of storytellers. She playfully interviews a cast of characters of varying reliability, eliciting refreshingly candid, yet mostly contradictory, answers to the same questions. As each relates their version of the family mythology, present-day recollections shift into nostalgiatinged glimpses of their mother, who departed too soon. Polley unravels the paradoxes to reveal the essence of family: always complicated, warmly messy and fiercely loving.

Elysium Showing from Fri 23 Aug Tickets on sale: Tues 20 Aug In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa Showing from Fri 23 Aug Tickets on sale: Tues 20 Aug Steve Coogan’s famous local radio DJ / one-time talk show host Alan Partridge is one of the UK’s most-loved comedy characters, and he’s coming to the cinema screen in this summer’s unmissable British comedy Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa. When Alan’s radio station, North Norfolk Digital, is taken over by a new media conglomerate, it sets in motion a chain of events which see Alan having to work with the police to defuse a potentially violent siege. Will Alan talk round disgruntled colleague Pat Farrell? Will there be shots fired in anger? Will Alan become a public hero or simply another footnote in the history of broadcasting?

Wadjda Showing from Fri 23 Aug
Back to the Future
Tickets on sale: Tues 20 Aug
Showing from Fri 23 Aug
Arabic language film with English subtitles. Meet Wadjda, a streetwise ten-year-old girl whose carefree demeanour frequently lands her in the headmistress’s office. She spots a bicycle in the local shop and determines to scrounge up enough money to buy it so she can race the boy-next-door - a culturally unacceptable action with potential societal repercussions. Wadjda enters her school’s competition with an eye on the cash prize, and while her school continues to crack down on the individual rights of its students, Wadjda stands steadfast in opposition to a society loathe to recognize selfexpression. This groundbreaking film, shot entirely in Saudi Arabia and the first by a female Saudi filmmaker, Haifaa Al-Mansour’s Wadjda offers a moving, rarely seen picture of everyday life in Riyadh. With a central character so unique to the screen, Al-Mansour has crafted a subtle counterpoint to the images of women and girls the world is accustomed to seeing.
Tickets on sale: Tues 20 Aug Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) doesn’t have the most pleasant of lives. Browbeaten by his principal at school, he must also endure the acrimonious relationship between his nerdy father and his lovely mother. The one balm in Marty’s life is his friendship with eccentric scientist Doc (Christopher Lloyd), who is working on a time machine. Accidentally zapped back into the 1950s, Marty inadvertently interferes with the budding romance of his teenaged parents. Our hero must reunite his parents-to-be, lest he ceases to exist in the 1980s. Terrific fun!
