The Hangover Part III
Showing from 7 June Cert: 15 Duration: 100 minutes The staggering success of the first two Hangover movies means that the final part of director Phillips’ hilariously hapless trilogy has lots to live up to, and it doesn’t disappoint. Alan, Stu, Phil and Doug are all present, again played by Galifianakis, Helms, Cooper and Bartha, abetted by Jeffrey Tambor as Alan’s father Sid, and Heather Graham as Jade, Stu’s accidental wife from episode one. It begins on an oddly sober note at Sid’s funeral, but soon we’re back in Las Vegas, the Wolfpack’s spiritual home, for more primo-quality, alcohol-fuelled mayhem.
The Stone Roses: Made of Stone Showing from 7 June Cert: 15 Duration: 96 minutes
In 2012 a resurrection no one thought possible took place when legendary band The Stone Roses reformed after 16 years. With unprecedented access to previously unseen archive footage, Made Of Stone is a revealing journey through the life of one of the most revered and influential bands in British music history. Acclaimed filmmaker Shane Meadows brings his unique directorial style, humour and emotional depth to the film, capturing the band at work and in their everyday lives as they rehearsed for their much-anticipated reunion, which culminated in three triumphant homecoming gigs at Manchester’s Heaton Park in front of 220,000 adoring fans.
Populaire
Showing from 7 June Cert: 12A Duration: 111 minutes French language film with English subtitles. If you combined the wit and charm of The Artist with the period feel of Mad Men (and a little bit of Rocky’s competitive edge thrown in for good measure) the result would be enjoyable rom-com Populaire. Set in 1958 Normandy, the film centres on Rose Pamphyle (Déborah François) who follows her dream of becoming a secretary. Applying for a job at an insurance firm, she doesn’t impress the suave Louis Échard (Romain Duris) initially, but he spots something in her typing abilities that ignites his competitive spirit and enters her into the local speed-typing competition. As Pamphyle’s trophy shelf gets heavier, so does the pair’s love for each other.

Spring Breakers
The Gatekeepers
Epic 3D & 2D
Brit (Ashley Benson), Candy (Vanessa Hudgens), Cotty (Rachel Korine) and Faith (Selena Gomez) have been best friends since grade school. They live together in a boring college dorm and are hungry for adventure. All they have to do is save enough money for spring break to get their shot at having some real fun. A serendipitous encounter with rapper “Alien” (James Franco) promises to provide the girls with all the thrill and excitement they could hope for. With the encouragement of their new friend, it soon becomes unclear how far the girls are willing to go to experience a spring break they will never forget.
Hebrew language film with English subtitles. Nominated for Best Documentary at the 2013 Academy Awards, this fascinating and moving film opens a window onto 50 years of Israeli history as seen through the eyes of the Shin Bet, the state’s security agency whose activities and membership have hitherto remained shrouded in secrecy. Constructed around revealing interviews with six surviving former heads of the agency, blended with archival footage and computergenerated reconstructions, The Gatekeepers explores key moments in Israel’s history. From the Six-Day War right up until the present day, the film reflects on the Shin Bet’s role in the development of the state and its responses to the ongoing conflict in the region.
A young girl named Mary Katherine (voiced by Amanda Seyfried) lives in a cabin in the woods with her father Professor Bomba (Jason Sudeikis). One day, the professor does not return from a hike in the forest, so Mary Katherine sets out to look for him. She comes upon a group of falling leaves. Catching one of them, she is shrunken down. In her minuscule state, she discovers a group of warriors known as the Leafmen. Soon she is forced to assist them in a war against forces of evil known as the Boggans and their villainous leader Mandrake (Christoph Waltz), while trying to find out how to return home. With voices from Josh Hutcherson, Colin Farrell, Beyonce Knowles, and Chris O’Dowd, this is a star-studded film for all the family.

Man of Steel 3D & 2D
Fast & Furious 6
Every child growing up feels ‘different’ sometimes and asks who they are and why they are here, but for young Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) the answers are hardly reassuring. Sent to planet Earth by his father (Russell Crowe), Clark is raised by his adoptive parents to always do the right thing. As a young man he finds that doing the right thing means using his alien powers to fight General Zod (Michael Shannon) and become a symbol of hope – for humanity in general and Lois Lane (Amy Adams) in particular. Co-written and co-produced by Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight Trilogy), Zack Snyder’s reboot of the DC Comics franchise is darker and more serious than previous versions, without sacrificing any of the adrenaline-pumping spectacle that we would expect from Krypton’s greatest son.
The Fast & Furious franchise has evolved into more than just a series of wild car chases, and in number six much of the story takes place in London. Sure, the old firm of Dom (Vin Diesel) and Brian (Paul Walker) are here to do the dirty work, but the twist this time is that their old adversary Agent Hobbs (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) wants them to neutralise a team of lethal mercenaries led by the ruthless Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). Having just trousered $100 million for eliminating another criminal mastermind in episode five, Dom and Brian don’t really need the work, but Hobbs’ offer of full pardons is tempting, and the discovery that Dom’s ex-lover Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) is Shaw’s deputy amply justifies their involvement.

Without warning, young Oscar is tragically orphaned during an attack from a rival group of chimpanzees. Afterwards, he attempts to survive on his own, and to be accepted by the other chimps. But Oscar struggles, until he is surprisingly adopted by the Alpha Male of his group.
The Big Wedding
I’m So Excited!
With an all-star cast led by Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl, Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, Topher Grace, with Susan Sarandon and Robin Williams, The Big Wedding is an uproarious romantic comedy about a modern family trying to survive a weekend wedding celebration that has the potential to become a full blown family fiasco. To the amusement of their adult children and friends, long divorced couple Don and Ellie Griffin (De Niro and Keaton) are once again forced to play the happy couple for the sake of their adopted son’s wedding after his ultra conservative biological mother unexpectedly decides to fly halfway across the world to attend.
Spanish language film with English subtitles. A technical failure has endangered the lives of the people on board Peninsula Flight 2549. The pilots are striving, along with their colleagues in the Control Center, to find a solution. The flight attendants and the chief steward are atypical, baroque characters who, in the face of danger, try to forget their own personal problems and devote themselves body and soul to the task of making the flight as enjoyable as possible for the passengers, while they wait for a solution. Life in the clouds is as complicated as it is at ground level, and for the same reasons, which could be summarized in two words: sex and death.

World War Z 3D & 2D

Based on the cult novel of the same name, the film follows United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt) as he traverses the globe, racing against time to stop a devastating epidemic that has already toppled governments and armies, and that threatens to hurl humanity itself full pelt into a zombie apocalypse. Fusing awe-inspiring action spectacle with the nervy jitters of the best zombie horror flicks, this mega-budget opus promises to be one of the big hits of the summer, and is an absolute must-see for Pitt fans and action aficionados alike.

According to Mud, his true love Juniper (Reese Witherspoon) is awaiting his arrival in town, and together they plan to make a daring escape. Despicable Me 2 3D & 2D
Showing from 28 June Cert: Not Yet Rated Duration: 100 minutes Gru and his minions are recruited to trounce an evil supervillain in this hilarious sequel to the hit animation. Last time we met shiny-domed, pointy-nosed, spindlylegged megalomaniac Gru (Steve Carell), he was tamed by a trio of adorable orphan girls. But Gru’s life of happy domesticity as an adoptive father isn’t going to last. He’s abducted by Lucy Wilde (Kristen Wiig) of the Anti-Villain League and whisked to the organisation’s HQ in her cool underwater car. Here the League’s supremo, Silas Ramsbottom (Steve Coogan), explains that Gru’s detailed knowledge of the evil mind is needed to help defeat a sinister new supervillain named Eduardo (Al Pacino). What’s more, he’ll get to play with lots of great new gadgets and weapons! Steve Coogan and Al Pacino join the starry voice cast of this sequel to the much-loved 2010 box office smash. Expect to see plenty more of Gru’s scene-stealing little yellow minions too!

Byzantium
Showing from 28 June Cert: 15 Duration: 118 minutes Innocent-looking Eleanor (Saoirse Ronan) and her mother Clara (Gemma Arterton) are actually 200-yearold vampires fleeing the consequences of Clara’s murderous bloodletting, although Eleanor feeds only on the suicidally consensual. They descend on a rundown seaside hotel inherited by Noel (Daniel Mays) and Clara soon turns it into a bordello, ostensibly in order to finance Eleanor’s education. Very different from Interview With A Vampire, Neil Jordan’s latest melds dark historical thriller with romance as Eleanor reveals her true self to an eager suitor (Landry Jones), who then gives the game away to their English teacher (Tom Hollander) and all hell breaks loose. The flashbacks, beautifully realised by Moira Buffini’s script and Sean Bobbitt’s moody cinematography, add forceful weight to the women’s predicament, with a great final twist.
Aguirre: The Wrath of God
Showing from 28 June Cert: PG Duration: 95 minutes The most famed and well-regarded collaboration between New German Cinema director Werner Herzog and his frequent leading man, Klaus Kinski, back on the big screen. This epic historical drama was legendary for the arduousness of its on-location filming and the convincing zealous obsession employed by Klaus Kinski in playing the title role. A few decades after the destruction of the Inca empire, a Spanish expedition leaves the mountains of Peru and goes down the Amazon river in search of gold and wealth. Soon, they come across great difficulties and Don Aguirres, a ruthless man who cares only about riches, becomes their leader. But will his quest lead them to “the golden city”, or to certain destruction?

The Audience
National Theatre Encore Showing on Thursday 4 July Cert: 12A Duration: 180 minutes Helen Mirren reprises her Academy Award-winning role as Queen Elizabeth II in the highly anticipated West End production of The Audience. For 60 years, Elizabeth II has met her prime minister in a weekly audience at Buckingham Palace. A meeting like none other in British public life, it is entirely private. Both parties have an unspoken agreement never to repeat what is said – not even to their spouses. The Audience breaks this contract of silence and imagines a series of pivotal meetings between the prime ministers and their Queen. From Churchill to Cameron, each prime minister uses these private conversations as a sounding board and a confessional. Sometimes intimate, sometimes explosive, the private audiences chart the arc of the second Elizabethan Age. Twelve politicians have come and gone through the revolving door of electoral politics, but from young mother to grandmother, the Queen remains constant, waiting to welcome her next prime minister. The Audience reunites writer Peter Morgan and Academy Award-winning actress Helen Mirren, following their collaboration on the critically acclaimed movie sensation The Queen. It is directed by Academy Awardnominated director Stephen Daldry, and is presented in the West End by Matthew Byam Shaw for Playful Productions, Robert Fox and Andy Harries.
