WEEK 6 READING: SURFACES THAT CAN BE BUILT FROM PAPER IN ARCHITECTURAL GEOMETRY Question 1: What are the three elementary types of developable surfaces? Provide a brief description. (Maximum 100 words) Three elements contained Cylinders, cones as well as tangent surfaces of space curves. Developable surfaces can be mapped ismetrically into the plane. A developable surface has the same Gaussian curvature as the planes, that is why there are just three elmentary tyoe of surfaces. In addition, rulings in developable ruled surface must be a torsal ruling.

Question 2: Why is the understanding of developable surface critical in the understanding of architectural geometry? Choose one precedent from Research/Precedents tab on LMS as an example for your discussion. (Maximum 100 words) the understanding of developable surafce is significant due to the fact that they could be made to flat materials , even important in ship building and fabrication of venblation. One example is cloud canopy in federation square made by Madisson Architects. the combination shape of roof make it easier to control daylight.

PANELLING 2D PATTERN

2d Panelling, Pattern: Triangular

2d Panelling, Pattern: Box

2d Panelling, Pattern: Diamond

3

VARIABLE 2D PATTERN

the custom shape was a rectangle combined multiple lines.

the basic shape of 2D Panl is created by two circles contained in rectangle.

This 2D panel is my favorite, the basic shape was made by 4 circles and use Trim command in Rhino to remove the parts outside

3D PANEL TEST PROTOTYPE & TEMPLATE

The test 3 panel made by hand.

Nice first try of 3D panel for personal speaking.

WEEK 7 READING: DIGITAL FABRICATION Complete your reading before attempting these questions:

Question 1: What is digital fabrication and how does it change the understanding of two dimensional representation? (Maximum 100 words) Digital fabrication is the manufacturing process using machines which controlled by computers. The significant meaning for digital fabrication is it make machine more reliable and can be programmed in consistently manufacturing digital products.the 3 dimentional modeling of digital fabrication could also encourage and enegize the development of architectural thinking and turn it into construction.

Question 2: Suggest two reasons why folding is used extensively in the formal expression of building design? (Maximum 100 words) Folding has a long history used in product design and carft-making practice. the advantage of folding in builing design is the higer efficent of multi-scale. Another aspect is that the using of foding naturally produced some 3 dimentional vocabulary and expand the ideas of building design.

EXPLORING 3D PANELLING

The final model I Made was a combination of 2D part and 3D part. the combination make up a smile face, which is the most fantastic part in this model.

7

UNROLL TEMPLATE OF YOUR FINAL MODEL

the folds for the final model was contained in A0 paper .

PANELISED LANDSCAPE

The final model finished! There may have some flaws due to handwork , but all in all a stunning model
