Week Three

Reading: Kolerevic B. 2003. Architecture in the Digital Age

Kolerevic described three fundamental type of fabrication techniques in the reading. Outline the three techniques and discuss the potential of Computer Numeric Controlled fabrication with parametric modelling. (150 words max)

The three type of fabrication is Two-dimensional fabrication, Subtractive fabrication and additive fabrication technology. Computer Numeric Contril fabrication is a very pricese way of building the model or artwork. The potential of CNC is great in substituting the human work with 0 mistake if the parameter preset is accurate. It could restore the model made in computer into real life, and this technology could be used in other areas in the future, like building a house for real.

Week Three Surface Creation

see through several examples to find the most appropriate with well structured waffle, the chosen one has the merit of relatively stable, and the bottom side and top side of surfaces are paralle, the change is occured in the distance, to create a cliffy waffle reflect in the angle.

3

Week Four

Panels & Waffle

this model used two 3D paneling, one of them is used the triangular panel, it show the variation in size from the bottom to top. the another is hollow-structured panel, the light would through the opening and see the contrast of waffle and panel.

the structure of the waffle is made with two surface, one of it is flat and one of it is cliffy. the combination made the waffle point in one side. The interesting part is the edges of two surface is relatively pararell, and the difference is about the distance of them, it create the angle of the waffle . from this view, it shows the transition of height of the 3d panel and it reflect most of volumn of this model.

4

Week Four Laser Cutting

the waffle structure is baked from Grasshoper, and the constrain is reflect in the shape of two surface (it is not work when the surface with crazy angle.) the panel is difficult when there has variation in different grid of paenls. It required to join them in very small amout in one time.

5

Week Five

the 3D model is created by boolean a cube with sphere and cone to show the complexity. Next, trim the model in half to see the crossection of model. In order to create a closed space, trim the model in 45 angle, to create a roof of the parvillion.

6

Week Five Isometric

The concept of this model is created based on the concept of natural cave, while I add geometric element inside the model to create it with the contrast between abnormality of cave and regular geometry. The model is boolened by the sphere and cone. When people walk through this space, they could see the sky through the holes at the top with particular shape. the thresholds is also corresponding to the opening at top. The feature of the cave allow the holes go through each level of the pavillion, then the water could run.

7

Week Six

Task 01

Task 01 Matrix choose the iteration of surface, attractor point and different panel to record the workflow of waffle. Because it could tell the idea why designer choose to do it in this wa

8

Week Six Task 02

Task 02 Matrix The three verision choosed to show is the manipulation of grid, distribution of sphere as well as boolean script. It tell how the interior spcae was created based on the decision I made.
