How to create fire text

Page 1

To create this effect, I use GIMP, a freeware which can perform most function Adobe Photoshop can, it’s easy to download and install, here’s the link, http://www.gimp.org/downloads/ So, let’s start, by typing in any text you want, because I’m lazy, I’m gonna reproduce this using only one alphabet, When you open GIMP, this is what came out,

See the right side toolbox? Click on the ‘A’ thing, then click on the white paper, this will show up,

Type in any words you wish, then click close. Let’s say I type Z,

I use the font: sans bold Then click on image button, and click indexed, then choose black and white 1 bit color,

Then click ‘convert’. Why did I do this? You can get an elaborate explanation in another pdf named ‘GIMP basics’. You can steal it at the ‘Discussion’ section of my fb page, here’s the link, http://Poink.kube.com.my ok, next, click on image

mode

RGB.

Then, click on ‘ Bucket Fill’ tool at the right side toolbox,

, choose any color other than black or white, then click on the text.

After that, choose black color, select ‘Bucket Fill’ click on the background. Then, choose white color, select ‘Bucket Fill’ click on the text. The purpose of this whole process is to make the background black and the text white. Important: on the left side toolbox, there’s a ‘Layers’ display, when you are trying to color the text, click on text layer in the layer box and when you color the background, make sure you select the background layer in the layer box. This rule goes for everything you want to do using GIMP. • I’m not sponsored by GIMP.

After that, choose the smudge button at the right side toolbox,

Click at the text and push to create the wavy effect, you can choose the brush size, I recommend bigger brush size to help you along.

The end product should look something like this,

After that, click on ‘Image’ at the top toolbox, and select ‘merge visible layers’ then click ‘Merge’

Then, click on ‘Colors’ on the top toolbar, and select ‘Color Balance’,

Adjust the colors accordingly, for the fire effect, I choose Cyan: 100 (Red) Mangenta: 30 (Green) Yellow: -30 (Blue) You can play around with it to create different colors effect, I find it quite fun ☺

The end product looks like this,

You can try other stuffs like filling the background with different colors. I’m not showing it here… Oh, there’s one more thing you can explore, just click on the ‘Filter’ on the top toolbox, then try the different effects such as ‘Distort > Wind’ or ‘Artistic’… you can get some interesting results. Oh, Just to tell you where this comes from, I’m running an online store customizing personal designs on your chosen styles of clothes and bags, you can steal more design techniques at the ‘Discussion’ section of : http://poink.kube.com.my Don’t worry, it’s free to steal.
