Words From The Publisher
Dear Readers,
I can hardly believe that I am launching this magazine. But for the past 20 years, our company, Clark's Consulting Firm, LLC has assisted and partnered relentlessly with so many entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs that we were unintentionally poised for this moment. However, I want to give credit where credit is due. What really gave me the "green" light to move forward with this project was Dr. George Fraser and the great men and women I met at his PowerNetworking Conference. Dr. Fraser hosts one of the largest networking conferences for black entrepreneurs in North America. It was cited by Forbes Magazine as being the top 5th can't miss conferences for entrepreneurs. This is why I am extremely honored that he and one of his strategic partners have agreed to serve as our honorary advisory board members.
As we release this issue, we have been in a pandemic crisis with the coronvirus for 8 months, so I thought it was fitting to honor the healthcare industry for the courageous and outstanding job they have and are doing in the community. Everyday they are risking their lives so that others might live. I am delighted to introduce to some and present to others one of the most incredible God-fearing competent medical doctor, Dr. Ellawese Smith. Dr. Smith has been practicing medicine for over 32 years, and have served in numerous professional positions in the healthcare arena including being head of a hospital.
Another one of my favorite people that I wanted to honor in the premier issue is the Late Mrs. Lila Cabbil. Mama Cabbil, as many would call her, was the co-founder of the Rosa Parks Institute. Mama passed last year and it was ironic that she passed in the month of February, which is Black History Month. Mama spent her life fighting for the poor and equality among the races. She was so amazing. If you were fortunate enough to have met Mama Cabbil, your life was enriched just by being in her presence. We traveled together. We ministered together. We presented together. But one of the greatest honors she bestowed upon me was asking me to serve in the capacity of National Prayer Coordinator for the Rosa Parks' Protecting Freedom Initative in 2008, to prayer for President Barack Obama for 381 days to steer the nation toward racial-reconciliation. Eventually, she became my mentor. I will forever be grateful.
Lastly, you are going to encounter in this issue reflective writings and an array of aspiring black authors and entrepreneurs. The goal for this magazine is to highlight black Americans who are aspiring to become entrepreneurs as well as established entrepreneurs.
Hope you enjoy reading this magazine as we enjoyed preparing it!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

Do You Honor Yourself or Others?
ccc
“That night I wrestled with myself trying to decide to honor the woman in me and choose a man that, from the very beginning, was respectful of me and helped me become a better person. Or, do I honor the mother in me and choose to return to a life with a man that I wasn’t sure had a God-driven mission or could be supportive of my achievements.”
Excerpt from Red Alert: Is He the One? Pocket Guide to Finding the Love of Your Life
By Tanya E. HoodThis struggle was very real for me. I sat up all night trying to decide:
1. Do I make a choice for me that would impact the rest of my life? or,
2. Do I make a choice for my children that would impact the rest of my life?
As women, we often choose others over ourselves. We find it difficult to truly honor who we are and what we really want. This should have been an obvious choice. My ex-husband was uncertain of his life mission. At that point in my life, I had learned enough to know that a man without a clear purpose can be the most miserable person you will ever meet. He will make you miserable too, especially if you know where you want to go in life. A man who cannot be supportive of your achievements because he is floundering in a sea of uncertainty over his own life is not a healthy partner to have and to hold forever.
I was at a crossroads in my life because despite knowing this truth. I wrestled with myself, debating what I perceived my children would need. I tussled with my ability to endure unstable circumstances, so my sons can have their father near. I grappled with my own insecurities of what I perceived were the thoughts of a man that I knew loved me, but did he love children that were not his own.
As women, we must always, at any cost, choose to honor ourselves. The moment you choose to dishonor yourself is the moment you give the world notice to do the same. Take back your power and learn tools and strategies that will get you to a better position.
WORDS OF INSPIRATION
Excerpt from her book, “Unscripted”
Good Morning Sculpture,
I am learning each and every day that my past experiences are nothing to be ashamed or afraid of. To wholeheartedly accept them, good, bad and indifferent will make me whole.
Memories often haunt us like forgotten tasks. They appear in our minds well after the fact but have an omnipresence in our lives. Some memories creep up into our current thoughts like nightmares and others we are able to remember the experience so vividly that it makes us smile (like when I made mud pies and a friend ate one)!
The point is, your experiences create the mold for the beautiful sculpture that you are today. When you feel like something is missing, dig deep, it may be the lack of acceptance from a distant past that is making you feel “off”.
You can’t just appear put together, you must accept the path that you walked to arrive... be sure to wear the proper footwear and use inserts as needed, for this journey toward acceptance of self-love can be arduous. You must be willing to see yourself for ALL of your goodness and flaws. You must be willing to taste the difference between success and lessons learned to get to your happy space (if that’s where you want to be).
So today, please go look in the mirror at those beautiful smile lines and know that they are the mark of someone beautiful inside and out.
Have a Magnanimous day!

On February 23, 2019, one of the most incredible gifts that God placed on this earth to bless humanity went home to be with the Lord. Dr. Maranatha McLean M.D.
Dr. Maranatha McLean is a forth year anesthesia resident at Westchester Medical Center in New York. She first encountered her purpose at a career week at middle school in the United States. A Doctor from the Dominican Republic spoke to the students about his experiences. Consequently, Maranatha was captivated and decided to pursue a career in medicine. With this intention, she volunteered at a hospital and immersed herself in the world of medicine.
Throughout her journey, Maranatha has surrounded herself with Christian friends who are equally determined, and goal oriented to push her towards excellence. Notably, Maranatha graduated Magna Cum Laude from Howard Payne University with a major in Biology in 2009, and graduated from medical school, University of Texas Medical Branch in 2015.
In the role of an anesthesiologist, Dr. McLean meets patients on the day of surgery and has to build a trusting relationship in a short period of time. In particular, she helps to alleviate the patients’ physical pain and mental anxiety. Similarly, Dr. McLean is accountable for keeping patients alive during surgery as a critical member of the Operating Room (OR) team. Anesthesia is a hands-on specialty without a nurse between her and the patient. Therefore, Dr. McLean has the responsibility of diagnosing and treating a patient during the perioperative period. Admittedly, Maranatha has a short-term goal to complete a pediatric fellowship, followed by a long-term goal of becoming a Program Director of a residency program. Taking into account that, few African Americans hold the position of an anesthesiologist,
Maranatha aims to fulfill the role and inspire the younger generation.
Although, Maranatha faced another big challenge moving from Texas to New York, balancing work while enjoying the city. In either case, working at three hospitals and studying for exams, leaves little time to explore being in a new city. Fortunately, Maranatha has the support of her sister, cousin, and residency friends in New York to help acclimate to the area.
Recently, Dr. McLean rotated through pediatric anesthesia. In spite of the gruelling schedule, she achieves a great sense of accomplishment, leaving each day tired but with a smile on her face. Conversely, when Maranatha was younger, the Lord laid it on her heart to work with children. However, she enjoys taking care of all ages.
All things considered, Maranatha attempts to balance her arduous work with fun recreational activities. Namely, exercising a couple of times a week at the gym or walking in the park. In addition to, venturing to China Town for monthly massages and Chinese dumplings with her sister, to achieve a healthy work and life balance. In fact, Maranatha acclaims her stability to having a strong core of friends from medical school that keep her grounded. Dr. McLean enjoys spending time with friends and family.

StephanieBspeaks@gmail.comSocial & Psychological Factors
ThaT affecT PeoPle In The MarkeTPlace
Here are four things that affect a person’s social and psychological state which influences behavior. While this is not a comprehensive list, but I would like to address these four key elements.
They are:
1. Motivation - the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way
2. Perception - a way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something; a mental impression
3. Learning - the acquisition of knowledge or skills through experience, study, or by being taught.
4. Attitude or belief system -is an ideology or set of principles that helps us to interpret our everyday reality
According to case studies and statistics, if these 4 concepts are dealt with in a person’s life, they can truly live a fruitful life, and things will never be impossible. For us to accept the principles that we are taught, we must be willing to adjust our thinking pattern to a level that may not always be comfortable with our day to day life.
A person must be willing and motivated to make adjustments as it pertains to their social life especially concerning the things that may impinge on there mental growth and development. When it comes to shifting into the desired place that an individual is looking to go, how they preceive the journey will be critical to the process. This includes all negative people and places that will cause a person to not live at their higher self.
Psychological factors include individual-level processes and meanings that influence mental states. When we think about physiological factors, these are things related to your physical body that affect your thinking. For example, when your body’s chemistry is off due to unbalanced nutrition, dehydration, alcohol, etc., the neurotransmitters that control your thinking processes can be affected.
Therefore, it is so important to detox your mind through soaking (some might call it meditation), exercise and water hydration. A person must condition their minds to adjust to the greatness that is within them. If we don’t allow the process of what is being taught to push us to action, we will constantly find ourselves dealing with the term that many have found themselves in, which is mental assent -- to hear and believe what is said, but never put forth the actions to see the desired results that could be produced.
We want to live in a state of revelation knowledge and not just head knowledge. Which is the mental state of hearing, believing; yet, never acting, simply put, “Mental Assent.”
