MODULE 01 How to draw a Croissant?

3

MEASURED DRAWING OF A CROISSANT How to measure a Croissant? A photo stage was set up at home. The photos were printed out and then tracing paper were laid over. It was outlined with a 0.4 fine liner, then overlaying another paper for the hatching using a combination of 0.2 to 0.5 fine liners, then shading was done by using 2B to 6B pencils. The three tracing papers where laid and taped together for scanning. The cross sections were measured by drawing a 10mm by 10mm squares, to help draw it in an axonometric view. The images were imported to photoshop to change the lighting, contrast and for layer masking. It was then layout on a A3 sheet that including, labels, dimensions and name, it was laid in a specific order and then printed out.

NEW MARIO WORLD

The making of new Mario world. Two images were given, one for the front and one back. The image was laid on a 45-degree angle and then using an A3 tracing paper the world was drawn using axonometric projection. The views were then combined, and the students were to transform the world with their imagination. The drawing was scanned and imported to photoshop to change the contrast then on illustrator to trace the linework and painted, using a number to techniques such as patterns and gradients. Then uploaded on to indesign to be printed out on a A1 matte paper

Axonometric projection This is the original drawing of the two sheets for the mario world.

Combined top level The first level is just gaming machines and vending machines as well as tents for fun activities, like card games and board games.

This is the creation of the worlds designed, on the underworld is a maze, with a ladder going up to the actual world.

PAPER LANDSCAPE

The making of new landscape A terrain was given then rhino was used to let the terrain become a base using planar curves, panelling tools, etc. Point attractors and curve attractors were used to change the levels of the terrain. Four different designs were drawn using the rhino software, with the help of workshops and tutors. The designs were put onto 7 or 8 A1 matte paper for laser cutting. The small nets were folded and glued together to form a physical model of the rhino image.

CITIES & DESIRE 5: ZOBEIDE

INVISIBLE CITY

SHIRLEY WU 908873

Cities and desire 5: Zobeide The story is about many men from over the nation is dreaming of a lady that is running away without any clothes on. And they come together to form this city where they see her in the dream. Wanting to trap her here with them. But no one has ever seen her and so they were let to live a normal life. My perspective of this city is that the lady is lefted in a blocked road where it is ugly a filthy. While the men are living a normal life filled with happyness, although it is boring in this ugly city.

Perspective two: In this perspective I want to show the juxtaposition of the first perspective of how the men go back to their daily lives gradually after no been able to find the women of their dreams.

REFLECTION

In these projects I’ve learnt to use time wisely so that changes could be made to improve on the original project. The lectures really help teach and give ideas of how to design each project. Also, with the help of workshops, it guides on how to make the basic models of each module, as well as it lets student explore themselves how to complete the assessment exploring the softwares and coming up with their very own designs. I like the way how this subject gives us many different approaches towards one module. That everyones could be very different and has an element that they think they want to protray and show in their designs and creations.

There are many improvement to be made first of all, in module one, my drawing of the croissants were a bit to dark when shading, causing it to lose some of the effects, also that i wasnt very skilled in using photoshop, hence the A3 sheet had marks that could essentially be erasered. I improved my M1 by changing the levels, brightness and contrast so that the shadings were a little lighter, as well as to add lighting that reflects off the crossiant standout more. Lastly, i redid the photoshop so it was neater.

Before enrolling in this class i have never or only used a few time the computer softwares such as photoshop, indesign, illustrator or rhino. The workshops were very fast paced in teaching how to use each software so personal time was necessary to be able to see how to use the application to try make the design to satisfation. I believe as the semester went by my skills in photoshop has improved. Which is good as i maybe using this software next year again or in the future.

In module two, it was the most terrible project for me. As i was terrible at using illustrator and trying to paint it. As well as i was very confused on how the axonometric project should look like. It took ages to figure out which caused i didnt finish the end product. Thus, for the portfolio i have redone the marioworld starting from the start from drawing the worlds to tracing it on illustrator then painting it. I believe in module three, rhino was a little hard to use at first. But after watching the workshop recording again and again i think i was at a standard level. Although, my module after physically making it didnt turn out as expected, losing some of the levels and heights, it was still okay. After gaining the skills of using rhino, module four was easier. But the illustrator took forever to do, freezing every second that it was it keep your hands sweating afraid that your computer might just shutdown on you. My two perspectives could be better, but i think it is made at my best.
