INTENSIFYING GENTRIFICATION
For nearly a decade some New Yorkers have worried that gentrification would force low-income people out of suddenly popular neighborhoods. LESS ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE
According to the New York State Department of Health, mortality rates are the highest in north central Brooklyn, which is also the area with the highest rates of poverty in the borough. The health care delivery infrastructure in Brooklyn is not strong enough to support this need. There is insufficient access to primary care in Brooklyn. Some areas of Brooklyn, such as Williamsburg and Bushwick, have only 11 full-time equivalent primary care physicians, for a population of approximately 80,000 individuals. DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE ALVAREZ FAMILY 2054
Haley (Now 6)) Parents have died Dear Ma and Pa, I wish I could show you this exciting new world I live in today. I live in a skyscraper with a wall garden. I can grow my own food within my building. Remember when we would have almost no access to healthcare and it was hard for us to make ends meet. I have everything I need now. The people in my building are soo nice. And the gentrification has ceased. Also with the high rise buildings we have more space for shops and restaurants. I now have a job as a nurse. I am making more money than I could have ever imagined. It is soo sad that you have left us soo early. The housign prices are very affordable and sustainable. We are now protected by the law and cannot be homeless. I have never felt better. THe technology is soo advanced now that I can control my house from a mobile app. I dont have to worry about leaving anything on/ burning the food when I step out. We use mass railroad transport to get places now and I can never be late. I feel like I have a place in this world now and I am grounded. Wish you were here. Haley.
