which is itself the most famous mantra) that is considered capable of “creating transformation” (cf.spiritual transformation).[1] Its use and type varies according to the school and philosophy associated with the mantra.[2] Mantras (Devanāgarī मन्त्र) originated in the Vedic tradition of India, becoming an essential part of the Sikh and Hindu tradition and a customary practice within Buddh and Jainism.

H.H SWAMIJI SRI SELVAM SIDDHAR

‘Mantras’ are mystic sounds which produce certain type of energies. ‘Mananath Trayathe Ithi Mantraha’- Mantra protects the person who recites it. This means Mantras are primarily invented by great seers for the welfare of the society. The cosmic energy we always receive contains different energies coming from different celestial bodies. Because we are part of our solar system, the energies coming from the Planets in this solar system always fall on us, and absorbed by our body. These energies are much needed by every one of us. They drive our daily activities and decisions. Our life force is indeed combined with these energies. When there is a deficit of any of these energies, the related problems will arise. For example, when there is a deficit of energy coming from Sun, health problems like headache, bad eye sight, weakness of heart etc will occur. Also there will be problems with one’s boss or government officials. There will be obstacles in acquiring paternal property. We can overcome all these problems by increasing the Sun’s energy in the individual by adopting various techniques. Recitation of Sun’s Mantra is the most effective technique. A mantra (Sanskrit मन्त्र - manas - mind, consciousness, soul + tra, trayate - to free; “liberating the mind, consciousness, soul, atma from repeated birth and death”) is a sanskrit (sometimes - in other languages, especially in buddhism and other religions outside India) sound, syllable, word, or group of words (usually starting with word ॐ (Aum, Om),

In the context of the Vedas, the term mantra refers to the entire portion which contains the texts called Rig, Yajur or Sama, that is, the metrical part as opposed to the prose Brahmana commentary. With the transition from ritualistic Vedic traditions to mystical and egalitarian Hindu schools of Yoga,Vedanta, Tantra and Bhakti, the orthodox attitude of the elite nature of mantra knowledge gave way to spiritual interpretations of mantras as a translation of the human will or desire into a form of action. For the authors of the Hindu scriptures of the Upanishads, the syllable Om, itself constituting a mantra, represents Brahman, the godhead, as well as the whole of creation. Kūkai suggests that all sounds are the voice of the Dharmakaya Buddha i.e. as in Hindu Upanishadic and Yogic thought, these sounds are manifestations of ultimate reality, in the sense of sound symbolism postulating that the vocal sounds of the mantra have inherent meaning independent of the understanding of the person uttering them. What happens when a Mantra is recited? When we repeatedly utter a Mantra we are tuning to a particular frequency and this frequency establishes a contact with the cosmic energy and drags it into our body and surroundings. Thus we can balance the energies and also increase the level of a certain type of energy, which promote certain actions and events. For example, if we increase the Mercury’s energy level, it promotes us to take intelligent steps in business.

om mantra, sreem mantra, kleem mantra, hreem mantra, iym mantra, ham mantra, saam mantra All mantras came from the single sacred sound: ‘Om’. Om is a combination of 3 main sounds: Aa-Vu-Ma. (See the symbol of Om at right) ‘Aa’ represents Vishnu, the sustainer, ‘Vu’ represents Siva, the destroyer, and ‘Ma’ represents Brahma, the creator. Aa-also represents the Sun, Vu-the Moon, and Ma-the Fire. There are more than 150 meanings uncovered from the sound ‘Om’, so far. It is said that lord Siva was the first to reveal mantras for the welfare of the mankind, through sages. There are Mantras for every thing. The ‘Gayatri Mantra’ recited by Hindus comprise 24 sounds, each sound is loaded with the energy of a different type by ancient sages. Thus there are 24 sages who contributed the sounds for Gayatri Mantra. It is said that ‘there is no great Mantra than Gayatri and there is no great god than the Mother’. The main aim of Mantras is to provide whatever the human beings long for. For example, the sound ‘Sreem’ represents Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Hence the Mantra: ‘Om Sreem Om’ will bring monetary success to a person who recites it daily for at least 2 hours. If you want to attract others and get the things done by them, then ‘Kleem’ is the right sound for you. This sound spells charm. So the Mantra: ‘Om Kleem Om’ will increase your magnetism.

If you want to become more dynamic and energetic and you want to get rid of general diseases, you can chant: ‘Om Hreem Om’. Here ‘Hreem’ is a energy reservoir. If you are worried about the intelligence and education of your children, let them recite: ‘Om Iym Om’. Here ‘Iym’ represents Saraswathi, the goddess of Education. To get rid of evil eye and evil spirits, you can recite: ‘Om Ham Om’. Here ‘Ham’ represenst Hanuman or Anjaneya who dispels all evils and fears. To have hormonious married life and to reduce quarrels between the husband and wife, the following mantra will be invaluable: ‘Om Saam Om’. Here, ‘Saam’ represents lord Subrahmanya or Kartikeya who gives happy married life. If kids recite this mantra, their vital power will be increased and they can escape from accidents and illhealth. A lot many people face illhealth and suffer a lot, because of the deeds committed in their previous births. For them, to get rid of health problems, and live a full life sanctioned by God, they should recite ‘Om Joom Saha Maam Paalaya Paalaya Swaaha’. This is called Mrityunjaya (Winning on Death) mantra and should be recited for atleast 2 hours daily. All the activities by the human beings are greatly influenced by the Nine Planets identified

MOLES ARE CLUES FOR YOUR DESTINY - Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar

Moles are marks which can be found on different parts of the body. In Indian and Chinese Astrology, moles are interpreted as representing the destiny of the person. The influence of the planets on the person would start at the time of fetus formation in the mother’s womb. Some planets influence the fetus more and some less. These influences result into mole formation when focused at the surface of the body. In the horoscope, the Ascendant and its lord, 6th house lord, Moon, Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Rahu and Kethu will form moles on the human body. For example, if the Ascendant lord Saturn is posited in Aries, will produce a black mole (Saturn for black) on the head part (Aries for head) of the native. If the sign and planet influencing the fetus are masculine then the mole will be formed at the right side of the body. If the sign and planet are feminine then the mole will be formed at the left side of the body. For example, a combination of Mars (Male planet) and Venus (Female planet) in Scorpio (female sign representing genitals) forms a mole on the genitals. If Mars is strong, then the mole will be at the right side on the genitals. If Venus is strong, then the mole will be formed at left side. The colors of the moles can be decided by the colors of the planets. For example, Saturn and Rahu give black moles and Mars gives red moles.

Moles should be interpreted according to their color, shape and size, and the place where they are located on the body. Moles in red color or honey color or green color will generally bring good fortune. Moles in black color give bad results. Small moles which are not so visible, will not give any results. Only big moles will produce results. Long moles give good results. Moles which are in square shape will give bad results in the starting, but they produce good results by the end. H.H SWAMIJI SRI SELVAM SIDDHAR Graphology is a science of determining the personality, character traits and destiny of a person from his or her own handwriting. Over 2000 years ago, Aristotle noticed the correlation between handwriting and personality while the Chinese independently also made the observation that there was a connection between character and writing. In the 2nd Century, C. Suetonius Tranquillus noted peculiarities in the handwriting of Caesar. In 1622, Camillo Baldi an Italian doctor and professor at the University of Bologna wrote the first book on Graphology entitled ‘The means of knowing the habits and qualities of a writer from his letters’. In 17th century, Saint Samarth Ramdas Swami from India who is a Guru of Chatrapathi Shivaji wrote in detail about how the traits of a person can be read from the handwriting and how in turn the bad handwriting affects the mindset of the person. He also prepared sample scripts of ideal handwriting. He made many references to Graphology in his work ‘Dasabodha’. Even though there were several works on Graphology, the word “Graphology” was coined only in 1875 by Abbe Jean Hippolyte Michon who also published two very important books: ‘The Mysteries of Handwriting’ and ‘A System of Graphol-

ogy’. Later, his successor, Crepieux Jamin, classified the handwriting into 7 different types with 175 specimens which are still in use by Graphologists today. To understand the basis of Graphology, we should know about human brain which has centers connected to our feelings and fingers. For example, ‘amygdala’ which is located in temporal lobe of brain, controls social and sexual behavior and other emotions. The ‘basal ganglia’ within the cerebellum coordinates the movements of the finger tips. So, the brain responds to the feelings like anxiety or happiness which in turn affects the movements of fingers and hence our handwriting reflects our feelings. Hence the handwriting of a person who is under heavy stress will be different from the handwriting of a peaceful person. Similarly, the handwriting of healthy person will vary from the handwriting of a person who is suffering from ill health. The three zones Any handwriting can be divided into 3 zones called upper, middle and lower zones as shown in [Fig 1].

The upper zone is called ‘intellectual zone’ which represents the intelligence, spiritualism and imagination of the person. So, more letters thrusting into upper zone represents an intellectual who uses his mind

Karma 12

more [Fig 2 (a)]. The middle zone is called ‘social zone’ which represents the self-confidence of the person and his social relations. When there are more letters in middle zone we have a person for whom social relations are important. He is action oriented and does not waste his time in thinking [Fig 2 (b)]. The lower zone is called ‘baser zone’ and represents the material wants and sexual desires of the person. Letters dropping more into this zone represent a person who craves for satisfying material desires. Letters with sharp bottoms in this zone indicate criminal tendencies [Fig 2 (c)].

The Slant We can divide the slant of writing into 5 categories. If the letters are perfectly vertical, they represent a person who lives in the present. This person is disciplined with good judgment. We find judges, business and political people in this type [Fig 3 (a)]. If the letters are slightly slanting towards right, we have a person who lives for future. He is quick to take decisions and implementing them practically. Top level executives and administrators will come into this category [Fig 3 (b)]. If the letters are extremely slanting towards right, the person jumps into action without adequate thinking. Hence, their actions will be often erroneous [Fig 3 (c)]. If the slant is slightly towards left, it represents a person who is highly imaginative and an introvert. His advice will be very useful to others. Political advisors, artists and cine people will come into this category [Fig 3 (d)]. If there is extreme slant towards left, then we have a person who lives in the past. He is a daydreamer and can not carry any task practically. He tries to avoid the society and

keeps himself alone [Fig 3 (e)].

Spacing When words are set too far apart from each other, it represents loneliness and unwillingness to interact with others [Fig 4 (a)]. When words are too close to each other, the person cannot keep distance from others. He does not care for privacy and always close to someone. This also represents insecurity and low confidence [Fig 4 (b)].

Writers who leave a wide space between each line are endowed with good analytical thinking and management ability. Teachers and executives hand writing will reveal this [Fig 4 (c)]. Writers who do not leave enough space between lines cannot take proper decisions because they could not survey the facts. They are weak-willed [Fig 4 (d)].

Direction of Lines Lines which ascend or go up express a strong wish and optimism to improve life [Fig 5 (a)]. Lines which descend or go down towards the end represent pessimism, sadness and lack of courage [Fig 5 (b)]. A wavy line which rises and comes down represents a person whose thoughts fluctuate, hence he is not dependable [Fig 5 (c)].

Karma 13

Connective Forms Connective forms represent the way letters in a word are connected. There are 4 connective forms: Garland, Arcade, Angular and Thread. Garland connectivity represents smooth curve at base line. These people are ready to mix with others and are easy going [Fig 6 (a)].

Arcade type represents rounded top like an umbrella. It is a sign of keeping aloof from others. He is secretive, reserved and proud. Sometimes it represents an artist also [Fig 6 (b)].

The Angular connectivity is identified by sharp angles at the top and base. This person is stubborn and drags others towards his goals. He is tense and sometimes violent [Fig 6 (c)].

If the Angular type is combined with leftward slant of writing, it is a sign of antisocial tendencies. The Thread connectivity occurs when the letters appear like interlaced threads. This form indicates a person who is impatient, hesitant and insecure and who makes hasty judgments [Fig 6 (d)].

Letter Size A person who uses large letters craves for distinction from others. He thinks that others should consider him as eminent [Fig 7 (a)]. On the other hand, a person who uses small letters never bothers about others. He is an intelligent person with good concentration [Fig 7 (b)]. Round letters are indicative of a soft and friendly person who does not encourage quarrels [Fig 7 (c)]. Narrow letters represent narrow mindedness of the person. He is calculative and miserly [Fig 7 (d)].

Margins A wide left margin represents self respect and sensitiveness of the person. A wide right margin represents that the person wants to remain aloof and guards his privacy. If a person leaves wide margins both at left and right sides of the writing, he is avoiding the world because it fails to meet his expectations. On the other hand if a person is not leaving any margins then he is unconcerned about his fellow men. Pressure Heavy pressure in handwriting represents strong will, strong body, love of eating and strong sexual drive [Fig 8 (a)]. Light pressure represents that the person is weak, timid and has less sexual desire [Fig 8 (b)]

One feels a mental block, gets disturbed sleep with bad dreams, and negative thoughts. There is heaviness and weight on the heart and constriction in the throat. At times, there could suddenly be blue marks on thighs without getting hurt, or faster & erratic heartbeat and breathing without any physical exertion. There are quarrels in the family without any reason. One might feel the presence of somebody in the house. One feels one is not getting one’s due and can achieve much more. One feels suffocated & restless in all circumstances, and is never at peace. One remains depressed, with lack of enthusiasm or desire to live & rise in life. Effects of Black Magic :Black Magic can really play havoc with the life of the target person by destroying any aspect of life may it be career/ business or wealth/prosperity, creating family problems or unnecessary tensions/ phobias, adversely affecting children & family, creating chronic health problems, destroying mental peace, intelligence & happiness, cause inner turmoil, unrest & uncharacteristic / abnormal behavior and even cause unnatural deaths in extreme circumstances. Black Magic not only affects the circumstances and future

prospects of a person, but also deprives him materially of everything he was destined for, but also affects the psyche of the victim in such a way that one looses the will-power & mental energy to get out of the sinister situation one is in, and has no desire to live or rise in life. The effects of Black Magic become more chronic, dangerous and fatal with time, if untreated, like a horrible disease. Black Magic starts spreading like a contagious disease, affecting the person’s mind, brain, body, relationships, attitudes, work, money, marriage, career and everything in life. Breaking or reversing Black Magic Spell :-

Putting a Black magic spell on someone is very easy for those knowing even a little bit of Tantrik Siddhis / voodoo. But to remove the spell and eliminate it’s sinister effects needs lot of expertise, continuous & rigorous puja / worship and a combination Siddhis & Sadhana. Gurudev curses those doing Black Magic on innocent people and destroying their lives and happiness for years to come. ‘Soolini Raksha Kavach’ for Protection & Cure of Black Magic :‘Raksha’ is ‘Protection’ and ‘Kavach’ is ‘Shield’. ‘Raksha Kavach’ is the most powerful Talisman for protection and cure of Black magic. ‘Raksha Kavach’

eradicates all ill-effects of Black magic, Evil spells, Curses, Ghosts and Spirits. Raksha kavach cures one of evil effects of past attacks and protects one from all future attacks. The effect of ‘Raksha Kavach’ never gets reduced. Raksha kavach’s protection is life-long, and lasts for as long as it is worn. The moment it is worn, the negative effects start receding and it’s protection starts, freeing the wearer from all evil influences which can ruin & destroy one’s present and future life. ‘Raksha Kavach’ is blessed with so much extraordinary energy and power that it can guard and protect an individual against the strongest super-natural forces, negative powers and reverse/break any kind of spell. The wearer of ‘Raksha Kavach’ always remains immune from all kind of Black magic (Voodoo, Evil Spells, Curses, Ghosts and Spirits) attacks. His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar LOCATIONAL ASTROLOGY (Western Sayana System)-Western sayana tropical Locational astrology or Relocation astrology We know that all planets rotate around the Sun. But in Astrology, we are concerned with the life of a person on earth and hence we draw the planets positions with respect to earth. This is the reason, the horoscope of the person is prepared taking earth as the central point and assuming all other planets including Sun are rotating around the earth. The planets positions can be projected onto the surface of the earth. At any moment, the planets may be at different locations and their energies will be projected to different locations on the earth. The planets energies will not be same at two different locations on earth, because same configuration of the planets cannot be obtained. For example, when Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2nd October 1869 at 7.12 AM LMT at Porbandar in India, his Jupiter is approximately in 8th house in the horoscope. If Mahatama happens to born in some other location on the earth say London at the same moment, one cannot expect his Jupiter to occupy the same house position. To understand this, let us convert Mahatma’s birth time to London, UK time. Since there is a difference of 5.30 hours between India and London, the date and time at London would be 2nd October 1869, 1.42 AM LMT. This is the time which shows in London when Mahatma

was born in India. Now the horoscope prepared with this time in London will be different from the original horoscope of Mahatma. Due to the time difference between London and India, Jupiter may shift into 10th house in the new horoscope. The time difference occurs because there is a change in the location. It means, a change in the location or place will change the horoscope. Judging the changes in the horoscope of a person with a change in the location is called ‘Locational Astrology’. Since the horoscope changes with location, when a person shifts from his birth place to another city or country, he is bound to experience the new modified effects of planets. Locational Astrology was practiced by Western Astrologers from 1930 to 1960 with the name ‘Astrogeography’. During 1970s, Jim Lewis expanded this field using detailed maps and modern software which he called ‘Astrocartography’. Locational Astrology helps to know whether the new place to where you are getting transferred would be lucky for you or not. It also helps to know which type of good or bad results can be expected from the planets in the new location. The difficult part in Locational Astrology is when someone wants to know which city or cities are good for him. In this case, we ought to prepare horoscopes for each and every city on the earth which is impossible. But if a person wants to know whether the city A or city B is good for him, then it becomes easy for the Astrologer to give guidance as he should prepare horoscopes for only those two cities.

Karma 17

While judging the effects of planets in Locational Astrology, importance is given to 4 angular houses. They are Ascendant (As), Descendant (Ds), the 4th house which is called Immum Coeli (IC) and the 10th house which is called Medium Coeli (MC). Since these houses are called ‘action houses’, when a planet is located in any of these houses, it is bound to play an important role in the person’s life. When good planets like Jupiter and Venus are positioned in these angular houses, the person will get very good success and prosperity. When bad planets like Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are positioned in the angular houses, the person will face troubles and failures.

When the birth horoscope is prepared, we obtain the position of the planets according to the birth place. In this horoscope, we should note the 4 angular house cusps and the planets which are on or near the cusps. It is possible to obtain a picture depicting the projection of these cusp lines and planets in the cusps. This picture is called ‘Astrocartography’ or ‘Solar Maps’. For example, in the solar map, the planet Jupiter is found to touch the MC line in a particular city. It represents that the native would feel more Jupiter energy in that city.

If the native goes to that city, it is certain that he will definitely find growth in higher education and wealth. This is what we can see in Mahatma Gandhi’s Locational Astrology. The following solar map is related to Gandhiji’s birth horoscope, i.e. for 2nd October 1869 at 7.12 AM LMT at Porbandar in India. Gandhiji went to London to have his higher education In Law. In London, we can find Jupiter power line under MC. [Jupiter represents higher education and law]. Later, Gandhiji went to South Africa where he started his career as legal representative for Muslim Indian Traders based in the city of Pretoria. Observe Saturn energy line in IC passing through South Africa. There, he faced a lot of struggles because of discrimination towards blacks which made him fight for civil rights. [Saturn represents career, struggles, civil rights, working for masses]. When he came back to India, he traveled across entire India to understand the problems faced by Indians during British rule. He continued his movement for freedom where he actively used news media to promote his cause. This can be understood from the Mercury power line in As located in India. [Mercury represents mass media, newspapers, and journeys]. Thus Locational Astrology clearly indicates the events happening in one’s life based on the locations one lives in. -His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar Mundane Astrology or medini jyothisha. Mundane charts, planets and houses in mundane astrology. The word ‘mundane’ refers to earth. Hence, Mundane Astrology focuses mainly on the future of the different countries existing on the earth. Mundane Astrology is a branch of Astrology that examines the charts of countries and their rulers in predicting the future of the country. Mundane Astrology is also called ‘Medini Jyothisha’ or ‘Desa Gochara’ in Vedic culture. It is also referred to as ‘Political Astrology’ by modern Astrologers. There are references to Mundane Astrology in Ramayanam. So, its existance can be traced back to several lakhs of years in India. Varahamihira gives a vivid description of Mundane Astrology in his great work ‘Brihat samhita’. Western Astrologers like Ptolemy, Sepharial, Alan Leo and Raphael had made tremendous effort on this subject. Unlike Natal Astrology which focuses on the individual horoscope of a person, Mundane Astrology mainly focuses on the future of a country. It is possible to forecast the time when the ruling party of a country changes, when the country will have conflict with her neighbors, when epidemic diseases spread, when natural calamities like floods and famine are possible and when the people revolt against the Government etc. events in advance. When such things are known in advance, required contingency plans can be adopted to alleviate the problem. Mundane charts To know the future of a country, Mundane Astrology uses several horoscope charts. First

of all, the chart of the birth of the country is required. It means chart for the formation day or Independence Day of the country.Next, the birth (natal) chart of the ruler of the country is important. It means the birth chart of the President or Prime Minister of the country. A chart drawn for the moment when the Sun enters the Aries 0 degree is also needed. This is called ‘solar ingress chart’. The word ingress comes from the Latin ingresses, to ‘go in’ or ‘enter’. The solar ingress chart represents the beginning of new cycle for the Sun to go round the zodiac. ·Charts for the time of Solar and Lunar eclipses provide clues regarding bad events taking place that year. ·Chart representing the transits of planets during that year. ·In addition, the Astrologer should have information about the ruling sign, ruling planet and ruling star of the country. Horoscope chart for USA United States of America has got independence on July 4th 1776. But the time is unknown. So, Astrologers have taken different timings and drawn several horoscope charts for USA. Of the many charts proposed for that day, the most widely accepted continues to be the Sibly chart, set for 5.10 PM on 4th July 1776 in Philadelphia. This chart is constructed by taking the major events happened during the course of several events that have their own impact on the country. Horoscope chart for India Most Astrologers take the horoscope chart of India for the Aug 15th, 1947 at 12.00 AM, New Delhi when she became independent.

On that day, India acquired only a dominion status under the British Crown. But she was not fully free. She became a sovereign democratic republic only on January 26th, 1950 at 10.18 AM. From this date onwards, she attained her freedom fully and hence this date should be taken for the purpose of predicting the future of India. Ptolemy’s classification of countries into zodiac is still followed in Western Astrology.

According to Ptolemy, the ruling sign for England and Germany is Aries. The ruling sign for USA is Gemini. The ruling sign for India is Capricorn. According to Indian scholars, the ruling sign for India is Virgo. India, a spiritual land extends from Sharada of Kashmir to Kanya Kumari in the extreme South. These two female deities point to feminine sign Virgo (Kanya) as a ruling sign of India.

Planets and houses in Mundane Astrology All the planets are given special significance in the Mundane Astrology, as they represent certain classes / community and particular matters, as shown in the following table.

The influence of the 12 mundane houses in connection to the affairs of the country is given in the following table.

gods. Gods are representatives of certain types of energies. The entire Zodiac chart is divided into 12 signs, starting from Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. There are 4 things to be done in a human life: Dharma (righteous path), Artha (wealth), Kaama (Desire), Moksha (Unification of soul with God). These are one by one represented by the 12 houses of the zodiac. The hidden meaning is: A man should follow righteous path to achieve wealth and fulfill his desires. At the same time he must be desirous to reach God, and find ways to finally unify himself with the super soul. The potentiality to achieve this is represented step wise by the zodiac. Theory says that Zodiac wheel starts with Aries 0 degrees, and is constant. When a top is rotating , it bends slightly and rotates. If a point is imagined on the top , it make circles. These circles will not coincide each other. There will be some deviation between each circle. Similarly, the Zodiac is also deviating slowly from its constant position. It is calculated to be around 51 seconds per year. This deviation is called Precession of equinoxes, or Ayanamsa. Indian Astrologers are not taking this Ayanamsa into account when they calculate Planet positions. So their system is called ‘Nirayana’. But westerners apply this correction in their calculations. So western system is called ‘Sayana’ system. This is the major difference in Indian and Western Astrological worlds. Sayana = Nirayana + Ayanamsa. There are 27 stars and each star has 4 padas (quarters). Thus a total of 27 x 4 = 108 star padas will will arise, which have been distributed in the zodiac. Since 12 signs are there in the Zodiac, every sign gets 9 padas. Each pada is of 3 degrees 20 minutes duration and 9 x 3deg 20min = 30 degrees. So each sign takes 30 degrees duration. There are planets whose role is to bestow the results of past deeds, done either in this birth or carried from previous births. Planets merely transmit the results which we earlier stored in the form of radiation. There are 9 planets

identified: Sun, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Venus , Rahu (Ascending Node) and Kethu (Descending Node). All the planets are not comfortable in all the signs. A planet is comfortable in its exaltation, or friendly or own house. Then it may give good results. A planet is not comfortable in enemy camp, and can give bad results. Each planet aspects its opposite planet, i.e, the house and planet in 7th from it. Additionally, Jupiter has 5th and 9th aspects. Mars has 4th and 8th aspects. And, Saturn has 3rd and 10th aspects. By observing the inter-relationships between the signs, planets, stars and their positions, we can understand the inherent capabilities of a human being, his thought process, and his weaknesses, and finally conclude what he has in store for his future. Various Dasasystems are developed to know what planets are currently influencing a human being and promoting him to do what kind of things. Indians call planets ‘Grahas’. Graha means that which catches. Grahas are those which catch the human beings and shed their influence on them. Grahas affect all inanimate and animate objects in this world. This is the reason Grahas are also personified as gods by Indians. Another greatness of Indian Astrology lies in providing remedial measures for various problems faced by human beings. The remedies are mentioned by sages in various works and also in Vedas. But the suitability of a remedy for a case is to be judged by a competent astrologer. Indians see Astrology in everything. It became a part and parcel of their culture. For them Astrology is ‘VedaChakshu’, the guiding eye for molding their future and attaining selfrealization

PUTHRA DOSHA (PROGENY PROBLEMS) ABORTINS/ MISCARRIAGE/ UNABLE TO CONCIEVE A BABY -His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar What is Puthra Dosha? What are the houses indicating progeny? What are the effects of Puthra Dosha? Planets indicating curses in our horoscope Who is Karma Puthra? ‘Puthra’ means child. The word ‘Dosha’ has several meaning like blemish, mistake, a problem or an imperfection. Puthra dosha creates progeny problems to the native. Fifth house is called as Puthra Sthana(house indicating children). Any malefic planet in 5th house creates puthra dosha. Jupiter is the puthra karaka(planet indicating children). If the 5th lord, Jupiter and 5th house is affected by malefic planets then the person suffers due to Puthra Dosha. Puthra Dosha makes the native suffer due to progeny. Common effects of Puthra Dosha: 1.Delay in child birth 2.Miscarriages 3.Birth of female babies alone 4.Birth of physically or mentally affected child 5.Children become useless or helpless to parents 6.Child doesn’t respect or obey parents Fifth house is the Puthra sthana (house indicating children) for a male and any malefic planets in this fifth house creates Puthra Dosha (imperfection in child birth) to the native. For a female both the fifth and ninth house in the horoscope are to be analyzed for the child birth. Usually ninth house is called as Puthra Sthana for women but still, fifth house indicates the nature of womb (ovary) and conception. Any malefic in 5th or ninth house in the horoscope of female creates some problem in child birth. Rahu in 5th house delays child birth and in most of the cases they suffer abortion if any malefic like mars or Saturn aspects Rahu. They beget only female children. If ketu is posited in 5th house, they suffer childlessness for a very long period and they may beget a male child long after 8 years of marriage. If moon or mars is posited in fifth house they beget more female children. If Saturn is posited in 5th house, they

may go in for adopted child. For a perfect analysis of progeny, Rasi chart and Sapthamsa chart of both the husband and wife should be analyzed and this cannot be explained here in detail. Also, fifth house indicates ancestral assets, love affair, luck in speculation, personal mantra favorable deity etc. weak fifth house and malefic in fifth house spoils the ancestral assets. They also face failures in love affairs. They should also avoid involving in speculation which might put them in to disappointments. Planet in fifth house indicates the type of mantra one would choose to chant and attain perfection (mantra siddhi). It is always good if no planet occupies 5th house (puthra sthana). Even benefic planet like Jupiter in 5th house creates dosha. 5th house is also called as poorva punya sthana. Hence any malefic planet in 5th house indicates the curse we’ve got from our past lives. 1.Planet sun indicates curse of father. 2.Moon indicates curse of mother. 3.Mars indicates curse of brother. 4.Mercury indicates curse of maternal uncle. 5.Jupiter indicates curse of god 6.Saturn indicates curse of departed souls. 7.Venus indicates curse of spouse. 8.Rahu and Ketu indicates curse of serpents If the fifth house and its lord is affected along with any of the above said planets, one suffers from Puthra dosha due to the curse from the past lives. Maharishi Parasara in his jyothish text ‘Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra’ has given different planetary combinations that indicate childlessness due to the curse in the horoscope. Karma Puthra: If the person has afflicted 5th house, then he suffers due to childlessness. But if he has a strong bagya sthana (house indicating fortune) and karma sthana(house indicating actions), then he begets a child after the age of 40. He’ll be blessed with a karma puthra (child who would performs the final rites to his father) due to his noble actions indicated by 9th and 10th house.

types and often a certain type may predominate in a person. The thinking type person is intelligent. He analyses the things according to logic and draws conclusions based on evidences. This thinking type is reflected in the signs: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius in Astrology. The feeling type person evaluates others using emotional criteria. He is sensitive to moods and atmosphere. In Astrology, the feeling type is shown by the signs: Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.

- Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar “Astrology represents the summation of all the psychological knowledge of antiquity.” - C.G. Jung Psychology in Astrology or mind readingPsychology, Astropshychology, Astrology and Carl Jung Astrology (Astro – light, ology – study) refers to study of light (energy) coming from planets and their influence on human beings and the affairs taking place on the earth. Psychology (Psyche – mind, ology – study) refers to study of human mind. It involves the study of mental processes such as perception, cognition, emotion, personality and the environmental influences on humans. Psychology: According to Carl Jung, “the individual disposition is already a factor in childhood; it is innate and not acquired in the course of life”. This means that there is an ‘innate seed’ in the child at the time of its birth. In Astrology, the horoscope built depending on time of birth of the child will help to know this innate seed. The horoscope reflects the character traits, strengths and weaknesses of the child in future just like a seed reflects a huge plant. Carl Jung classifies people into 4 psychological types, namely: the thinking type, the feeling type, the sensation type and the intuition type. A human being is a combination of these 4

The sensation type person uses senses: see, hear, touch, taste and smell to understand the world around him. He cannot judge the things. He just understands the things. He would be possessed with a lot of patience. Astrology provides the signs: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn which represent sensation type. The intuitive type person also cannot judge the things. But he understands the things by mental and spiritual faculties. Such a person becomes impractical sometimes. But he would be active mentally. Astrology reflects the intuitive types in the signs: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Psychology or Astrology? In USA, Canada and some European countries, we see Psychologists playing a role in recruitment of personnel for top level companies. Psychologists conduct some tests and observe the mental attitude of the person and finally draw conclusions whether the person is fit for the job or not. But Psychology fails to assess the person’s behavior on a long run. Psychology does not know what happens tomorrow, which only Astrology can foretell. After conducting a series of tests over a period of several years, what Psychologists can tell us, the same can be judged by an Astrologer simply by looking at the horoscope of the person in 10 minutes. In this way Astrology becomes an invaluable tool. Moreover, Psychologists can be cheated by clever and cunning people who can easily disguise their true nature during the Psychology tests. This is not possible in Astrology since Astrology draws information from the

Karma 31

horoscope and not from the appearance of the person. Couples consult Psychologists to know whether they have compatible mindset for marriage or not. Psychologists analyze the minds of the couple at that moment and may say ‘Yes’ for the marriage. But after a few years the same couple may go for divorce. How the minds of the people change over the period of time and when the couple gets separated etc. can be assessed in advance only by Astrology. Astrology can accurately predict the times when a person becomes psychologically imbalanced, when a person becomes physically ill, when a person takes wrong decisions, when a person gets troubles in his profession and personal life, etc. which is not possible to any other science. Psychology in Astrology: It is interesting to note that Carl Jung practiced Astrology and found that it is useful in his psycho analysis. He writes: “In cases of difficult psychological diagnosis I usually get a horoscope in order to have a further point of view from an entirely different angle. I must say that I very often found that the astrological data elucidated certain points which I otherwise would have been unable to understand.” Jung’s broad division of attitude types as extrovert and introvert are seen in Astrology as masculine signs (Aries, Gemini, Leo, …) and feminine signs (Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, …). For example, in a horoscope if more number of planets occupy the masculine signs, the person will have male qualities of aggressiveness, domination and sociable nature. If more planets occupy feminine signs, then the person will be endowed with female qualities like sensitiveness, softness and care-taking nature. In a female horoscope, if masculine signs are dominant, that woman will acquire male qualities. She goes out into society, establishes relations with others and becomes aggressive in pursuing a job or profession of her choice. Such a woman cannot spend time in extending sufficient affection to her children. If her husband expects her to sit in the house and pamper her children like a typical Indian

house wife, his dream will become impossible. Slowly, this will become an important factor leading to unhappiness in their married life. In Astrology, the Ascendant, the lord of the Ascendant and the most influencing planet in the horoscope will determine the psychology of the person along with his strengths and weaknesses. For example, a Pisces Ascendant person is sensitive, submissive and never dominant. He likes to follow the orders in a calm way. He does not want to lead others. He even hesitates to pass orders to others. Anybody can convince him by appealing to his kindness. A Pisces person can become a good clerk or a supervisor. He can never become a leader. So, if such a person is promoted as Head of the Department in a company, the entire department will lose control and there will not be expected progress. Let us take another example. A Cancer Ascendant person likes good food, different varieties of food and drinks. He likes water and wants to stay cool in swimming pools. His moods change more often. If he says ‘Yes’ in the morning, it becomes ‘No’ by the evening. He moves on and takes journeys to beautiful places studded with green trees and river banks. He likes cool nights rather than dried day times. Knowing this much about him, how can we use this information? Suppose you have to do a business deal with a company. You are visited by a Cancer person from the other company. Now, see that the person will be accommodated in a beautiful hotel in the middle of green trees and perhaps nearby a river. See that several varieties of food and drinks are served to him through out the day. In the evening when the moon rises, when he is at the swimming pool, go to him and talk about the deal. The fresh air, the blue waves in the pool, the drink in his hands and the moon on his head will make him say ‘Yes’. Don’t give him a chance to change his mind. Get his signature instantly. That’s it. The deal is completed. For More Help call our Guru Maharaj Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar #@ 408 829 7780 in USA . Or email him to avtemple@ aol.com

M

ost of us know about Pythagoras as a mathematician who developed a theorem in Geometry which states that in a right angled triangle, the sum of squares of the adjacent two sides will be equal to the square of its hypotenuse. But many of us do not know the other side of Pythagoras. Born in 570 BC in Samos, Pythagoras was an Astrologer, Numerologist, Musician and a spiritual Guru. He was able to communicate with Siddhas (enlightened souls) and went back into his past births and visualized his ninety nine thousand past lives in a row. He was able to predict earthquakes and calm the waves of the seas and rivers while travelling on. He healed several people with his music by playing lyre. After getting enlightenment, he started his own school where he used to teach Numerology and philosophy to his students. While initiating his students, he used to give a secret mantra (sacred sound) to his disciple.

Pythagoras believed that every planet had a peculiar sound of its own. He represented this sound using numbers. He felt that numbers can be classified as having male or female qualities, introvert or extrovert nature, beautiful or ugly etc.He also mentioned that some numbers carry karmic debts, i.e. the results of bad actions done in previous births, into the present lives of the people. Plato followed Pythagoras philosophy. Iamblichus gathered his verses and Thomas Taylor translated them from the Greek. Pythagoras assigned a particular number to each alphabet in the natural way from 1 to 9. Apart from 1 to 9 digits, he considers 11 and 22 as master numbers. 11 and 22 represent the force of karma (past actions) which leads the person into success or failure in this life. Also, every number will have positive and negative qualities. For example, the right hand side table shows how the alphabets are numbered in Pythagorean Numerology.

Karma 33

According to Pythagoras, the entire destiny of a person would be decided primarily by the numbers involved in his date of birth and name. The following are the important numbers in the life of a person, as calculated by Pythagoras system of Numerology. Destiny number or Expression number: Destiny number or expression number represents the environment and opportunities that the person will come across in this life. It is the goal to be reached. It is the sum of numerical values of all

Now the destiny number is 1+6+9 = 16 = 7. Please note that ‘Agnes’ gives 19 which is a karmic number. This number represents struggle for freedom from the circumstances. ‘Gonxha’ has 33 which represents teaching and self sacrifice for the welfare of others. ‘Bojaxhiu’ has 36 that represents travel, creativity and humanitarianism. The final destiny number is 16 which is a karmic number that represents failures in marriage and business. This number gives 7 (i.e. 1+6) which represents spiritualism.

the letters in the full name of the person. While calculating destiny number, we should find the sum of numbers of each word in the name and reduce them to a single digit or master number. Then they should be added further to form a single digit or master number. Let us take an example. Mother Teresa born on 26th August 1910. Her full name at birth is: Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. Till her middle age, she was called with this name. After her 36th year of age, she was called ‘Mother Teresa’.

These numbers indicate that Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu will be forced to attain freedom by sacrificing her life for the welfare of mankind on humanitarian grounds. With this goal, she came to India in 1929. After coming to India, she worked as a teacher for several years. She took religious vows as nun in 1931 when her name was changed to Teresa, but every one called her Mother Teresa. Let us calculate Destiny number for Mother Teresa.

Karma 34

The destiny number here is 7 + 5 = 12 = 3. Observe the word ‘Mother’ has 34 which represents spiritual purity attained by effort and the word ‘Teresa’ has 23 which represents love for people. The final number 12 represents help from friends and groups. This number 12 = 1+2 = 3 represents creativeness. This is why Mother Teresa created her own society for destitute and poor and started doing service. She got a call within the call during 1946 to dedicate her life to the poor and needy. Talent number or Life path number: This number represents the inner talents and abilities of the person and the lessons to be learned. It is the sum of date, month and year numbers in one’s birth date. For example, let us find the Talent number for Mother Teresa. Her date of birth is 26 – 8 – 1910.

Since the master number 11 is encountered in the year number, we should not reduce it to a single digit. The final talent number is 8 + 8 + 11 = 27 = 9. Whereas the 8s represent the executive abilities, the master number 11 represents work at spiritual level and the final number 9 represents sacrificing everything for the sake of helping others.

importance to be handled which will have a lasting impact on the world. Personality number: This number represents how other people will think of a person. It indicates the outer appearance or what the person shows to the society. The personality number is calculated by adding the numerical values of the consonants of a name. In case of ‘Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu’, the personality number is 2 which represents a person dressed in neatly and giving homely appearance. In case of ‘Mother Teresa’, the personality number is 8 which shows a person with a neat and executive dress.

The Heart’s desire number or Soul urge number: This number represents the inner desire and motivation of the person. It is calculated by adding the numerical values of the vowels in a name. For ‘Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu’, the heart’s desire number is 5. This number 5 represents freedom of expression. For ‘Mother Teresa’, the heart’s desire number is 22 which is a master number as well as karmic number. 22 represents a big project of major Karma 35

The Ultimate number or maturity number: It indicates an underlying wish or desire that gradually surfaces around the middle age of a person. It represents a person’s awareness of his goals in life. The Ultimate number is calculated as the sum of Destiny number and Talent number reduced to a single digit or a master number. For example, in case of ‘Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu’, it is 9 + 7 = 16 = 7 which represents a person who is desirous of retiring from worldly affairs and think about spiritual and religious matters. In case of ‘Mother Teresa’, the Ultimate number is 9 + 3 = 12 = 3 which represents a person who attains success with optimism and self expression. The Challenge number: It represents a weakness or problem that the person has to face in the life. While calculating Challenge numbers, the master numbers (11 and 22) should also be reduced to single digits. The Challenge number is calculated from the date of birth of the person, as shown below: Find the difference between month digit and day digit. For example, in case of Mother Teresa, 8 – 8 = 0. This is the first challenge number which Mother Teresa should face. The next step is to find the difference between day digit and year digit. In case of Mother Teresa, it is 8 - 2 = 6. This is the second challenge. Then find the difference between the first and second challenge numbers. It means, 2 - 0 = 2. This is the third challenge. The fourth challenge number can be found from the difference between month digit and year digit. It is 8 – 2 = 6. This is her fourth challenge. When we divide the life of a person into 4 parts, these challenge numbers will influence those 4 stages one by one. In Mother Teresa’s case, the challenge

numbers are: 0, 6, 2, 6. The final challenge number is 6 and it is repeated twice. This represents a greater emphasis on 6. This number represents a need to become a humanitarian. There will be inner conflict between personal life and the service to others. Destiny number, Talent number, Heart’s desire number, Personality number, Ultimate number and Challenge number Destiny number, Talent number, Heart’s desire number, Personality number, Ultimate number and Challenge number are called major numbers since the whole picture of one’s life will be decided by these numbers. Apart from these, there are other minor numbers which exert minor influences on a person’s life. Of course, a question arises here: “What happens if one changes one’s name?” Definitely, the change of one’s name will bring changes in most of these numbers. When these numbers are set harmoniously and without any karmic intervention, then one is bound to get success. For example, in Bible, it was written that Abram became Abraham and Sarai became Sarah when God promised them a child. The letter ‘H’ is child bearing letter and hence they were blessed with children. This is where you need the help of an expert Numerologist. -His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar Your Daughter’s age Attainment ( puberty) and her marriage - good & bad What is Ruthu jathaka? Horoscope is usually cast by the birth time of a child and predictions are based on the planetary positions in their natal chart. But for a girl, the predictions are done mostly by looking at their Ruthu chart otherwise called as Ruthu jathaka. How is Ruthu chart cast? Puberty or Menses is a physical change in the constitution of a girl. The girl is said have attained Ruthu when she gets her first menses. Ruthu chart is cast based on the planetary positions during her first menses. What effect does it have on a girl? Life of a girl changes completely after her puberty. She gets all kind of feminine qualities only after Ruthu. She looks at the world and people around her with a different mentality. Beside this a new way of life is destined for her after her puberty. How do birth chart and Ruthu chart differs? Birth chart of a girl reveals entire destiny of the women. Ruthu chart reveals only about the marital life, children, happiness, longevity of husband, conjugal bliss and the character of the native. Ruthu chart can reveal very well about the marital life of a girl better than the birth chart. After the Ruthu chart is cast, prediction from an astrologer can be had only about her marital life, Kalathra dosha and Mangalya dosha if any. Any steps for marriage should be taken only after doing proper Remedies. But this chart cannot be used for determining any

karmic problems, assets etc. this chart stops working after menopause (end of menses) Shall I use Ruthu chart for marriage match making? No. Only birth chart should be used for marriage match making. If Ruthu occurs on auspicious time she’ll have a very happy marital life even if she has any kalathra dosha (marriage blemish) in her birth chart. If she gets Ruthu on inauspicious time then her marital life will not be peaceful. She might face lot of problems with her spouse. SUGGESTIONS FOR A HAPPY MARITAL LIFE Happiness in marital life can be achieved by properly following the suggestion given by vedic shastras. One should take advice from a good astrologer by properly casting their birth horoscope and Ruthu horoscope and do the remedies where ever needed before her marriage. Then, Proper marriage matching such as a) birth star matching (10 porutham), b) mars dosha considerations, c)kalthra dosha considerations, d) mangalya dosha considerations e) dosha samyam should be done. After the marriage, proper Muhurtha for Nishekam (first sexual contact) should be chosen. A) FEMALE HOROSCOPE Though the horoscope is cast in the same way as for men, predictions vary for women in few aspects due to their anatomy and life style differences. By anatomy, breasts and ovary are indicated by the fourth and fifth house of the female horoscope.

Karma 37

5th and 9th house: (conception and children) Children are indicated by the 5th house for a male. For a female 9th house indicates children, 5th house indicates conception and abortions. A woman becomes childless if the 9th house is seriously affected. Any malefic planet in 5th house creates ovary problems. Rahu in 5th house creates minute germs in the ovary which eats away or harms the ovum or embryo and disturbs the conception of the baby. Mars in 5th house creates more heat in the ovary and spoils the conception by hurting the embryo. Saturn in 5th house fills up the ovary with vayu (gas) due to its vatta nature and prevents the floating of sperm cells in to the ovary. Ketu in 5th house damages the tissues of the ovary delays the conception of baby. 5th and 9th house of the female should not be affected by any malefic planets to have a healthy delivery of child. Proper remedy should be done if the 5th and 9th house is affected in order to have a healthy baby.

days), constellation, months, yogas , karanas and planetary positions .Happy future of a girl is also determined based on the clothes worn by the girl during her first menses and the person who checks the menstrual discharge in the girl. The colour and the quality of the cloth worn by the girl during her puberty also shows some effects in her marriage life. If a girl was wearing white cloth during her first menses she will be happy and healthy. She’ll live like a queen and be fortunate if she was wearing silk during her Ruthu. Happy and polite if new cloth was worn. Torn cloth, red cloth, black cloth, dirty cloth

7th and 8th house: (husband and marriage) 7th house is called as the kalathra sthana. 7th house indicates the characteristics of husband, position of husband, happiness and sexual pleasure. Any malefic planet in 7th house creates kalthra dosha and spoils the above said qualities in the life of women. A girl will get a good husband and have a good conjugal life only if the 7th house is not affected by malefic planets like mars, Saturn, Rahu and ketu. In case of kalathra dosha, proper remedy should be done in order to have a good husband and to maintain good relationship with him. 8th house is called as Mangalya sthana. 8th house indicates the marital tie and the longevity of the husband. Any malefic in 8th house creates Mangalya dosha. Mangalya dosha will spoil the marriage life either by separating husband and wife by sending someone away from home or by divorce or by giving death to the husband. It is highly recommended to perform some remedy before the marriage in case of mangalya dosha. B) RUTHU HOROSCOPE Marriage should be arranged for a girl only after following proper remedies if the Ruthu of a girl has occurred on inauspicious day, thithi(lunar

gives poverty, disease, widowhood and sorrow respectively. Hence parents should concentrate in choosing right garments and night cloths for their girl child who is about to attain puberty. White, yellow, green is best recommended for girls whose age crosses 12 and above. Black and red should be strictly avoided. Similarly the person who confirms the first menses in the girl also has effect on her life. Future of the girl will be good if a mangalya

stri (women happily living with her husband), devadasi(prostitute) confirms the first menses. Widow, childless women, women currently in menses and the mother of the girl should not be allowed to confirm the puberty. This would make her life an unhappy one. The girl taking mangal snan (first bath) after her first menses should look at any auspicious objects like sandal wood, lotus, mirror, cow, elephant etc Effects of weekdays on First menses: •Sunday: suffers health problems, problems in progeny. •Monday: will be affectionate and be a chaste. •Tuesday: short marital life, ill health

shoola, vyaghata, vajra, patha, vydhruthi are inauspicious. Karanas like bhava, garaja, vanika, bhadra, sakuni, chatuspath, naga, kimsthugna are inauspicious Months like chithirai(chaitra), Aani(jyeshta), adi(ashadha), puratasi(bhadrapada), krithigai(karthiga),thai( pushya) are inauspicious. Women who have attained their puberty on the above inauspicious Muhurtha will face troubles in their marital life. The bad effects of these muhurthas can be minimized to a certain extent by doing a proper remedy recommended by our Vedic scholars. C) MARRIAGE MATCHING Marriage match making is done mostly by comparing the birth star of bride and groom. Out of 10 matches made by comparing birthstars of bride and groom at least five matches such as dhinam(health and long life), gana (for dominance and peace of mind), yoni (for sexual satisfaction), rasi(progeny), racchu (longevity of spouse) should be present for a happy marital life. Apart from this, proper horoscope matching should be done based on the planets posited in 2,4,7,8 and 12th houses. A manglik should be matched with a manglik alone.

to husband.• Wednesday: more children, happy family. •Thursday: happy, good character, fortune to husband . •Friday: will be healthy and devoted to husband and family. •Saturday: Unhappy and vicious Similarly Thithi’s like Chathurthi, shasti, astami, navami, chaturthasi and amavasya are inauspicious. Stars like Puram(Pubba), Krithika, Pooradam (Purvashada), Pooratadhi (Purvabhadrapad ), Bharani, Ayilyam(Aslesha), thiruvadhirai (aridra), vishaka, kettai(jyestha), are inauspicious. Yogas like vishkamba, ganda,

D)NISHEKAM (FIRST SEXUAL CONTACT) Proper muhurtha is to be chosen for nishekam (first sexual contact). The planetary position at the time when a person has first sexual contact with somebody determines the health, fortune and conjugal bliss of a person throughout their life. This rule applies even if a girl is raped or commits adultery. Any bad activity done by a woman at inauspicious muhurtha spoils her entire life. -Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar Spiritual horoscope enlightened person

and

Spiritually

Most of us do not know why we have taken this birth, why we are leading these lives, what happens after death and what the ultimate goal of our lives is. We are all ordinary people without knowledge of the very fundamentals of human life. But a spiritual person knows answers for all these questions. We are all descended from a huge reservoir of energy, called ‘Paramaathma’ or the ‘Supreme soul’. The Supreme soul has divided itself into small quantities of energy and that individual speck of energy is called ‘Jeevaathma’ or ‘Bodily soul’. This Jeevaathma creates a physical body and starts doing some karma (actions) and these actions will bring it different experiences which finally expand its level of consciousness. When Jeevaathma realizes that there is nothing to know more, it will reach to higher consciousness where it identifies itself with the Supreme soul. This is called ‘Moksha’ or ‘Salvation’. We are all now in the form of Jeevaathma and our mission in this world is to attain salvation. For a normal person, it takes more than 1,00,000 births to reach this state. A yogi or a spiritual person reaches this state in 3 years by doing meditation for 8 hours a day. In Bhagavad Gita, the Jeevaathma is represented by Arjuna which resides in the physical body which is depicted by a chariot. This chariot is driven by horses which represent the senses. The Paramaathma is Lord Krishna who guides Arjuna to realize that he is Jeevaathma and his goal is to reach Paramaathma. Krishna holds

the reins which are nothing but the activities of mind. The battle is between Kauravaas (demonic nature) and Pandavaas (divine nature) – these two are the two sides of the mind. Winning the battle is possible only by controlling the senses and purifying the mind through yoga. Then only Jeevaathma can attain the state of Paramaathma. Such a person who is in the path of becoming Paramaathma is called ‘Spiritually enlightened person’. Prayaatnaad yatamanastu yogi samsuddha kilbishah Aneka janma samsiddha sthato yaati pararaam gatim | Tapasvibhyodhiko yogi jnaanibhyopi mathodhikah Karmibhyaschaadhiko yogi tasmaad yogi bhavaarjuna | - Bhagavad Gita. A spiritually enlightened person, who practices yoga diligently will be relieved from the worldly attachments, attains perfection of several lifetimes and finally attains the ultimate goal (Moksha). Such a person is superior to the persons who practice penance and lead austere life. He is superior to the Vedic scholars. He is also superior to the persons who perform Vedic ceremonies for gaining worldly comforts. Therefore, O Arjuna, become a spiritually enlightened person! A spiritual person knows that he is not the physical body, but the Jeevaathma. This Jeevaathma does not need any bodily pleasures and hence he is not interested in doing the worldly duties. He concentrates on the purification of mind and soul. For this purpose,

he needs a ‘Guru’ (divine guide). A Guru is a person who already attained the ultimate goal of becoming the Supreme soul. Guru prescribes certain procedures like reciting mantras, doing yoga and meditation, etc. Finally, the person’s consciousness increases to find out that he is the Supreme soul, the only one thing pervading the entire Universe. In Astrology, it is possible to know whether a person craves for worldly pleasures or whether a person is in the process of reaching spiritual heights. Also, it is possible to know whether a person can get a Guru or not. Bhavas to be observed: The Ascendant represents the self, physical body and psychology. Spiritual person’s thinking will be always inward. He thinks about the inner himself which is represented by the Ascendant. The 5th bhava in the horoscope represents soul (Jeevaathma), the mantra power and the mind. The spiritual person controls his mind by adopting techniques like yoga and meditation (dhyana). He will clear his past karmas with mantra recitation. Finally his mind will stabilize and the person will understand that he is the soul (Jeevaathma) but not the physical body. 5th bhava also represents the universal love. The 9th bhava in the horoscope represents higher spiritual knowledge, philosophy and the soul’s expansion. The practices represented by 5th bhava lead to the spiritual wealth gained from the 9th bhava.

benefic of all planets in the sense that it gives material wealth and also spiritual progress. Jupiter represents Guru (divine guide), religion and philosophy. Jupiter also represents the rewards gained by the person because of his good actions in the past births. Moon represents psychology and emotional state of the person. If Moon is receiving good aspects in the horoscope, then the person will have stable mind and will be able to achieve good grip on his mind which is first step in the spiritual growth. The planet Sun represents the soul’s strength and soul’s interest. It also represents the type of experiences the soul had opted for before it took the human body. Uranus gives an interest in mysticism, telepathy, clairvoyance and freedom of the soul. It represents the intuitive link between the Jeevaathma and Paramaathma. It also shows the unique work or purpose of the soul in the present birth. Neptune represents an interest in the matters of life after death, clairvoyance, spiritual healing and strong spiritual practices. It represents the spiritual wisdom acquired by the person from the past births. Aspects between the planets: - Jupiter should be in good aspect to Moon. For example, Jupiter trine Moon, Jupiter sextile Moon, Jupiter conjunction Moon, Jupiter parallel Moon.

The 12th bhava represents salvation (Moksha), soul’s journey after death, past life actions (Karma) and the number of births still to take.

- Jupiter should be in good aspect to Sun. For example, Jupiter trine Sun, Jupiter sextile Sun, Jupiter conjunction Sun, Jupiter parallel Sun.

Planets to be observed:

- Uranus should be in good aspect to Moon. For example, Uranus trine or sextile Moon, Uranus parallel Moon.

Spiritual growth is indicated by the planets: Jupiter, Moon, Sun, Uranus and Neptune. Among all these planets, Jupiter is very important and it dominates the entire horoscope of the spiritual person. The planet Jupiter is considered the most

or Jupiter or Sun. For example, Neptune trine or sextile or conjunction or parallel to Moon, Neptune trine or sextile or parallel to Jupiter, Neptune trine or sextile or parallel to Sun. Who gets spiritual Guru? Jupiter connection to 5th bhava or 9th bhava is compulsory to get a Guru. Jupiter should be strong and should not be debilitated. - Jupiter in 5th bhava / 9th bhava - or Jupiter conjunct or trine to 5th lord / 9th lord - or Jupiter trine to planets in 5th bhava / 9th bhava. CASE STUDY: Swami Yogananda, 5-1-1893, 20.14, Gorakhpur, India. In Yogananda’s horoscope, we can observe that the Ascendant lord is posited in 5th bhava, representing his universal love. He loves others as his children. The conjunction of 5th lord Jupiter and 9th lord Mars represents that he works for spiritual wealth. His work will be recognized internationally. The 12th lord is Moon in 12th bhava which is an indication that this is the last birth for him. He would have attained Moksha. Regarding planets, Jupiter trine Moon and Jupiter sextile Neptune is the clear indication of his spiritual involvement. This combination represents that he would involve into deep meditation and yoga practices to reach the Supreme soul. The sextile aspect between Uranus and Sun is the testimony for his mystic experiences. The square aspect (which is bad) between Sun from 5th and Jupiter in 9th represents that he would not give any importance to worldly possessions. Another square aspect between Sun from a powerful Saturn indicates heart attack. He has withdrawn his soul from the physical body at the same moment the heart attack was indicated. Also, Jupiter is with 9th lord representing that

Yogananda will have enough guidance from his spiritual Gurus Sri Yukteswar and Mahavatar Babaji. The 2nd lord being Mercury parallel to Sun and joined with the 3rd lord Venus would give him a very good communication skill which made him wrote the most sensational book: ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’.

Palmistry revives its foundation on the experiments conducted by Desbarrolles and d’Arpentigny in 19th century. They made a life time study of Palmistry by collecting the imprints of Hands of thousands of people, and classifying them according to the nature of people and events which occurred in their lives. Then a hypothesis has been developed and verified with the support of further research.

FORTUNE THROUGH PALM - Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar “There is nothing in the three worlds for knowledge besides the hand, which is given to man and which can be read like a book.” Hasta Sanjeevani. It is said that Palmistry has migrated from India to other countries like Greece, Egypt, Persia and Syria in ancient times. Samudra, deity of the Seas has first given this knowledge to the world, hence this is called ‘Samudrika’. Sages like Narada, Valmiki, Garga, Bhrigu, Prahlada and Astrologers like Varahamihira have done a lot of work in Palmistry. Palmistry was discussed in the great books like ‘Bhavishya Puranam’ and ‘Hasta Sanjeevani’. But some how Palmistry could not receive proper attention in India in modern times. It is given high regard in Western countries. “...It has put me under a necessity of saying something about Palmistry, which is a judgment made of the conditions, inclinations, and fortunes of men and women, from their various lines and characters which Nature has imprinted in the hands” says Aristotle in a paper written by him in 350 B.C. Today Palmistry has completely transformed into a science, because of the extensive research done by the intelligentsia. Palmistry is a science of understanding the Past, Present and Future of a person by the pads and lines of a palm.

Just like a doctor examines a patient and determines his disease by using clinical equipment, a Palmist can predict in advance the health state of a person by simply observing his hands. Noel Jaquin and Eugene Scheimann have proved this by their research. Mr Edward Kowalewski, a professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and former president of the American Academy of Physicians, says: “I try to watch the hands of the patients in my waiting room, because they give so many clues, both physical and emotional”. Micheal Faraday proved that electric charge is attracted by objects with sharp ends. This is the reason, when the child enters this world from his mother’s womb, the life force from cosmos enters his body through the fingers of his hands and toes of feet. Mostly the life force enters through the index finger and goes up to the brain, where it influences the person’s thinking and circulates in the body and finally comes back through the other fingers. The movement of life force is channeled by the lines of the hand. Every finger of the hand has been connected to a different area of the brain, thus activating different processes in the brain. The pads below the fingers are the places where a number of nerves are bundled up. These pads are like capacitors to store the life force. The life force also carries the energies coming from the planets in the sky. And hence, the pads are named after the planets. The answer for the question: How the hand reveals Past, Present and Future of a person lies in the statement by Frances Kiezle: “Hands are photographic plates upon which our brain writes our impressions”. When an event happens, our brain first reacts for the event, and that reaction leaves a mark in our hands.

Karma 45

By reading these marks, we can understand the Past of a person. The sub conscious mind always carries impressions from Past life, and these impressions bear considerable affect on Present deeds. The sub conscious state can also be studied by the hand, and hence the Future can be predicted. Every hand is unique, and reflects the nature of the person. The pads or mounts of the hand show the strengths and weaknesses in the personality. The marks and lines in the hand describe a vivid picture of events that take place in his life. But these marks and lines may change from time to time depending on the planetary energies which vary from time to time. By a careful examination of all these factors, we can judge what the person is and what he has in store. ASTRO PALMISTRY Astro Palmistry We are always living in the energies coming from planets and stars. The space above us where planets and stars dwell is called ‘zodiac’. The zodiac is divided into 12 parts and each part of the zodiac is called ‘sign’ or ‘rasi’. Thus there are 12 signs in the zodiac wheel. Since we are exposed to the energies of planets and stars, the energies coming from them are absorbed into our body continuously. Hence the energies coming from the zodiac will influence our whole body and in particular, the specific energy coming from each sign of the zodiac will influence the specific part of our body. So the 12 signs influence our body parts. For example, our head receives more energy from Aries sign, so head is influenced more by Aries. Similarly, our neck is influenced by Taurus, our hands by Gemini, chest by Cancer, heart

by Leo, stomach by Virgo, buttocks by Libra, genitals by Scorpio, thighs by Sagittarius, knees by Capricorn, calves by Aquarius and feet by Pisces. All of our body parts are covered by skin. While the planetary energies enter our body through our skin, they leave some markings and lines on our body or skin. For example, the lines on our forehead, in our palms and under our feet are all formed in this way only. When good energies enter our body, we feel peaceful and become healthy and wealthy. When bad energies enter our body, we feel disturbed and are prone to various problems. Understanding the energies whether they are good or bad by observing the marks and lines on the body will enable us to predict the future of a person. This is called ‘Anga Vidya’ (Science of limbs). The skin is very sensitive at our lips, in our palms and also at our feet. Energy flows in and out at pointed surfaces. Since our palms and feet are attached to fingers and toes which are pointed, there will be more energy flow in these areas. So, the marks and lines on the palms and feet give clear information about the energies going into or coming out of our body. So it is possible to predict the future of a person by observing the marks and lines of the palms and feet also. Predicting one’s future by studying the marks and lines in the palms is called ‘Hasta Samudrika’ (Palmistry) and predicting the future by studying the marks and lines in the feet is called ‘Pada Samudrika’ (Footology). Connection between Astrology and Palmistry In Astrology, we draw the planetary positions in the zodiac at the time of birth of a person and analyze the good or bad energies of planets by their positions and aspects. This drawing is called horoscope of the person. In Palmistry, we can estimate the good and bad energies of planets by looking at the marks and lines of the palms. In other words we can say our palms contain in-built horoscope. With this idea, some people who are experts in Astrology and Palmistry tried to build horoscope of a person from the lines of the palm. Similarly, some scholars tried to describe the lines and marks in the palms of a native by looking at his horoscope. Such people are called ‘Astro-

Karma 46

palmists’. The science ‘Astropalmistry’ refers to the Astrology part that is directly reflected in Palmistry. Astropalmistry is in its infant state because any person who wants to become an Astro-palmist should be versatile in both the sciences: Astrology and Palmistry which is not so easy. Some Astro-palmists were able to identify the zodiac signs and planetary positions in the palm as shown in the Figure. One of the ancient books in Astrology that has been kept secret for centuries together in North India and recently made available to the Astrologers is ‘Lal kitab’. This book contains several chapters where Palmistry is linked to Astrology. There are citations linking marks and lines in the palm to the position of the planets in the horoscope. For example, if the Sun line is good and starts from Venus mount and ends on Sun mount, then the planet Sun is found in the first house in the horoscope. Similarly if Sun line is running towards Jupiter mount, then Sun is posited in the second house. In this way there is clear description in Lal kitab linking Palmistry and Astrology. However, this area awaits a lot of research. Astropalmistry Some general points about planets can be understood by observing the palms. - If a mount is well developed and high with 1 vertical line on it, then that planet would be in its exaltation or own house. - Similarly if a mount is depressed and underdeveloped, then that planet would be in its debilitation. - When favorable markings like trident, conch, fish, triangle, square etc are found on a mount, they represent the mount is receiving good aspects from other planets.

- When unfavorable markings like island, grille, chain, star, dots etc are found on a mount, then we can understand that the mount is receiving bad aspects from other mounts. - In most of the cases, we can see a connection line between two planets when there is a conjunction of planets. - The Fate line which generally starts at the bottom of the palm and ascends to the Mount of Saturn generally represents the MC or 10th house in the horoscope which shows profession and earnings of the native. - In Vedic Astrology, Rahu and Kethu are considered as planets. When these planets afflict the life of a person, we can find chained formation in Life line, Head line and Heart line. Case Study This is the birth chart of a male born on January 12th, 1980 at 79E07, 13N12, India. We have shown the actual palm image of the person, next to the birth chart. Physiognomy body language and different types of faces Interpretation of character and fate from the study of a person’s face is called ‘Physiognomy’ or ‘Face reading’. It is obvious that when we meet an unknown person, we try to understand his feelings by looking at his face. So the origin of Physiognomy traces back to the date of origin of human beings. Indications of a person’s progress in yogic path are described with respect to Physiognomy in Hindu text ‘Svetasvatara Upanishad’, composed earlier than 500 B.C. According to Hindus, Samudra (deity of oceans) have first given ‘Anga Samudrika’ (Body language). King Prahlada has contributed a lot to this subject. Chinese texts dating back 300 B.C., mention Physiognomy. Socrates(470-399 B.C.) was a great physiognomist. The first book on Physiognomy ‘Displaying the Secrets of Nature Relating to Physiognomy’ was written by Aristotle(384-322 B.C.). As it was mentioned by Marco Polo, the Arabs also practised physiognomy. Physician and philosopher Avicenna(980-1037 A.D.) has written about Physiognomy in his book ‘De animalibus’. Michael Scot(1175-1232 A.D.), court astrologer to Emperor FrederickII, also composed a book ‘De hominis phisiognomun’, which was printed in 1477 and became best seller for years together. Italian doctor d’Abano(1250-1316) also wrote many books on both Astrology and Physiognomy. During sixteenth century many authors have written books on this subject. Gerolamo Cardano,

born in Italy in 1501, wrote many books on Medicine, Mathematics, Astronomy, Physics, Astrology, Dream Analysis, and Physiognomy. Cardano believed that a person’s character and fate are symbolized by the shape, lines, and markings of his or her forehead. He wrote a total of 13 books on the subject of forehead reading. In 1586, Porta published ‘De humana physiognoma’ in which he compares the likenesses of human beings to certain animals. He says if some one resembles a particular animal, he will also have the same tendencies and temperament of that animal. Kaspar Lavater(1741-1801) was regarded as the founder of the modern Physiognomy for his tremendous work in this subject. Later on Cesare Lombroso has made this subject more popular. By observing the face of a person as a whole, we can get a keen idea of how his life would be in general, starting from childhood till his old age. 1. Parents region: The position where the hair starts at the top of forehead represents parents and the person’s relationship with them. If this area is smooth and shining, the person’s parents are fortunate in matters of health and career and the person’s childhood is filled with happiness. If this area is indented or with dull skin color then the person’s parents face troubles during his childhood. 2. Career and Success region: We have this area below the Parents region and above the eyebrows. If this position is good, gently rounded and bright, it represents good career prospects and early settlement in the career. If this area is indented or hollow and dark in color, it shows the person’s intelligence will not help him in his career and misfortune from his 21st to 25th years. 3. Life region: This area lies between the eyebrows. If it is firm, bright, gently rounded, then it symbolizes a successful career after 27th year of age. It represents a friendly person with positive attitude towards life. If the space between eyebrows is wide and eyebrows are thick the person earn good money and his longevity is also good. If the eyebrows are

Karma 48

closer and there is a hair line connecting the two eyebrows, it is a sign of negative mind who is obstinate and unforgiving. If this Life region is dull or any colors found there, it represents unhappiness in career and poor health. 4. Middle age region: This region starts at center of the eyes and covers till the end of the nose tip. Any cross lines, patches and black spots in this region represent ill health and problems with the spouse in the middle age. 5. Love and Emotional region: This is the area below the two eyes. If this area is bright, bulgy and rounded, the person will have deep emotional involvement. He or she will fall in love easily and whole heartedly. If this area has wrinkles or low and not smooth, then the person faces failures in love affairs due to selfishness or over indulgence. 6. Fertility and children region: This area represents the groove which connects the nose with the center of the upper lip. This is also called philtrum. A long, broad and deep philtrum indicates good fertility and ability to have children. It also represents long life. When the philtrum is low or flat, it represents less energy and childlessness. A short philtrum represents early death. 7. Old age region: This is the region below the lower lip which is also called the chin. If this area is strong, rounded and spacious, it represents happiness in old age after 60th year. If this area is low with a weak jaw and dark hue, it indicates unhappy and friendless old age. It also represents dangers of drowning, poisoning, and food or water born diseases. Shapes of faces: Round shaped faces are also called Moon faces. They represent laziness, lack of energy, imaginative and jovial persons. They love good food and highly domestic. Square shaped faces are called Earth faces. They represent a tough and aggressive person, offensive and sociable. They are suitable for works where more muscular energy is required.

Rectangular faces represent a honest, diplomatic and leadership qualities. They are suitable for professions as top level executives and officials. We can also have triangular faces. An upright triangle which starts with narrow area at the forehead and comes down widening, represents Fire face. This is a symbol for anger, low talent but boastful, and rough person. An inverted triangle which becomes narrowed at the chin, is also called Air face. This signifies a cheerful, bright temperament, hyperactive and sensitive person. This type of face indicates disturbed married life. Side Profile of face: A straight face represents a person whose nature is balanced. A concave face represents a person who sees dark side of life. A convex face makes a person an optimist with a happy disposition. If a straight horizontal line is drawn from the corner of the eye towards the ear, it should just touch the ear’s upper portion. If the ear is located above the straight line, it denotes the person is of refined nature. Ear set low below the line and close to the head represents criminal tendencies. If the ear is erected out from the head, with much gap between the head and ear, the person depends on inner self to gain success. Forehead: A high and even forehead with a good shining gives a person intelligence and a rich life to enjoy. Any black shades or black creases on forehead represents obstacles in his career. Three clear horizontal lines on the forehead give longevity. Eyebrows: If the eyebrows are set apart, it represents broad mindedness. Eyebrows close to each other represent critical minded person who expects exactness in every work.

Karma 49

Nose: If the nose is long, the person will be proud of his accomplishments. If short nose is found, we will have a free person escaping from responsibility. Broad nose gives stability of mind. Nose tilted up with nostrils visible represents a spendthrift and emotional person. If the eyebrows are high set, then it denotes an irresponsible attitude and superior tastes.

Lips:The size of the upper lip represents the ability to love and the size of lower lip represents need for love.

If the eyebrows are low set and nearer to the eyelids, then they represent a prudent and calculative nature and an insecure mind.

If the lip corners are turned up, cheerful and friendly disposition is seen.

If the eyebrows are like a straight line, the person will become practical and unimaginative. Eyes: The colored circular portion of the eye is called ‘iris’. If these irisis float too high, we will have an unstable and disturbed person. He is not trust worthy. Sometimes it denotes premature death. If the irisis sink too low in the eye, a cruel and perverse nature is indicated. If the iris is large, thus occupying much of the space in the eye , the person cannot hide affections and emotions. If the iris is small, and hence the white portion of the eye is much seen, then the person is secretive. If the gap between the two eyes is large, the person is expansive and communicative. If the eyes are closely set, then the person will be criticising others, and will not demonstrate his feelings. Color of Eyes: A dark eye denotes a forceful nature than a light colored one. Light blue colored eyes represent flirtation. Deep blue is a sign of gentle love. Brown eyed people are devoted in love and friendship. Hazel eyes represent a highly impressionable and affectionate type. Grey represents good intellect and imagination. Green eyes denote an inventive and adaptable nature. Black eyes provide passion and tenderness.

If the lip corners are turned down, irresolute person with depression can be seen. Full and broad lips show sensuous tendency. Thin lips show brevity and concise behaviour of the person. He will also be a learned person. Mouth: A large mouth is a sign of outgoing and extroverted person. A small mouth represents introverted, careful and cautious people. Chin: A narrow, pointed or weak chin represents less energy and drive. They face problems in old age. A broad, round chin is symbolic of generosity and good humour. A broad and square shaped chin makes the person work hard. It is a mark of steadiness. Jaw: A strong and deep jaw line just below the ear lobe represents the person has good will power and energy. Weak jaw indicates flexibility. When the soul creates its body in the mother’s womb, and slowly limb by limb is formed, the interactions of previous birth’s instincts with the soul lead to alterations in the outer body. So by observing the outer body, we can estimate the inner self of the person. This is the root idea of Physiognomy. The surprising thing is these energy lines are clearly visible to the birds flying in the sky. They follow these lines while migrating to distant places. The planetary energy flux first reaches the grid plate. When the planets are in good position, the energy flux flows smoothly on the grid plate. When there are changes in the planetary energies, then the flux will assume different forms. For example, when the planets’ energies are so bad that there is possibility of an earth quake, a sharp spike appears on the plate. Sakuna sastra, the science behind omens:-

One of the branches of Astrology where an Astrologer can predict the outcome of a question just by observing the changes in the environment is called ‘Sakuna Sastra’ or ‘Nimitta Sastra’ or Astrology of omens. The word ‘sakuna’ refers to something indicative. ‘Nimitta’ represents something happening at the moment. Let us take an example. A person going on a work found a black cat coming opposite in his way. It is a sakuna or indication that he will see delay or failure in his work. The reason is black represents planet Saturn who gives delays and failures. The cat coming in opposite direction is an indication that Saturn is not favorable for him to carry out that work.

The amazing thing about Sakuna sastra is that the person who wants to know the future need not have any knowledge of Astrology and planets. He can simply observe the changes around him at that moment and know what is coming to his way. Science behind Sakuna sastra Every planet in our Solar System radiates a specific type of energy. When the energies from different planets are combined, we will have a lump of energy called ‘planetary energy flux’. Dr. Ernst Hartmann soon after the Second World War found that the planetary radiations surround the earth in the form of a net. Two scientists Bill Becker and Bethe Hagens proposed that the entire Universe including our earth is surrounded by a ‘grid plate’ like formation. This grid plate carries energy to all the places in the Universe in the form of lines. These energy lines pass in the direction of earth’s North Pole towards the South Pole.

According to Madis Senner, the planetary energy flux from the grid plate is caught by ‘ducts’ on the earth. A duct can be imagined like a pipe which grabs the energy from the grid plate and pumps it down to our earth’s atmosphere. There are innumerable ducts on the surface of the earth which continuously bring the planetary energies into our surroundings. These planetary energies are absorbed by the human beings, animals, birds, trees, mountains, oceans, objects etc. This is the way the energies from the planets are received by us on the earth. After reaching our surroundings, the planetary energies will influence our thoughts and actions. Thus there is an interconnection between what is happening at the above and the things going to happen here on the earth. Let us explain this further. Due to a certain planetary configuration, there is planetary energy flux generated. This flux travels on the grid plate which is at the higher atmosphere on the earth. From there, ducts carry the flux into our surroundings on the earth’s surface. This flux influences all objects in our surrounds. When a person wants to know whether he will get a promotion in his job, we should understand that at that moment that person’s thoughts are under the influence of these energies surrounding him. Now the answer for his query is also in those energies entering his surroundings. If the energy flux is good and harmonious, then there will be good happenings in our surroundings. If there are obstacles in the flow of energy or hazardous energy flow is there, then there will be bad happenings showing up. For example, when at

Karma 51

that moment, he has seen a boy running with two apples in his hand. This denotes that the boy has fruit (benefit) in his hands and hence the person will definitely get promotion. Since there are two fruit, we can interpret that the promotion happens in two months. Application of Sakuna Sastra: There is a story about a lady visiting Varahamihira while he was teaching Astrology to his disciples. The lady said that her husband had gone to a foreign country a few years ago and did not return home and there was no news from him whatsoever. In those days, people used to go to foreign countries to do business and earn money. But most of the people die during their sail. The lady wanted to know whether her husband returns home or not. At that moment, Varahamihira’s wife entered the hall. She said that she was on the way of drawing the water from the well when suddenly the rope had broken and the bucket fell into the well. She asked Varahamihira to send his disciples to help her get the bucket out of the well. This is an indication (Sakuna or Nimitta) that contains answer for the question of the lady who wanted to know about her husband. Now Varahamihira turned to his disciples for an interpretation of the Sakuna. The disciples said that the lady’s husband would not return as it was a bad omen that the rope was broken and the bucket had fallen into the well. But one disciple said that the lady’s husband would definitely return. Varahamihira asked why? The disciple said that the water in the bucket reached its original place in the well which was an indication that the man returns to his original (native) place. The breakage of rope was not bad since it was broken due to pull of bucket while reaching its original place. Of course, the lady’s husband returned home after 6 months. So, when a person poses a question to the Astrologer, the Astrologer first should keenly observe the surroundings for any changes happening due to planetary energies. The changes may be in the objects, birds, animals etc around him or sometimes there would be changes in his body also. These changes indicate the answer for the query. But the

Astrologer should be able to interpret the indications (Sakuna or Nimitta) properly. Also, the person asking the query should have strong and genuine desire to know the answer. One should never pose questions just for fun or testing. In such cases the interpretations go wrong. Good and Bad omens: When interpreting the Sakunas (omens), often the Astrologer or the querent will also see the indications in their body. For example, the Astrologer or the querent may have some tingling sensation in one of the body parts which can be interpreted as follows: It brings good luck and favors if there is a tingling sensation in the entire head, right side of the forehead, corners of the eyes, either side of the nose, in the upper or lower lips, left chest, stomach, right side in the back, right side or left side of the chest just below the shoulder, right hand, elbows, thumbs, waist, right or left thighs, left knee and right leg ankle. It brings bad luck and there will be difficulties if a tingling happens in the back side of the head, lower or upper eye lids, left eye, neck, back side of the neck, throat, right chest, naval cavity, left hand, entire back, genitals, right knee, left leg ankle, upper side of the right or left foot. Good objects like musical instruments, fruit, flowers, umbrella, horse, elephant, cow, white ox, mirror, white clothes, meat, honey, rice, food, vegetables, milk, curd, processions related to a festival or marriage ceremony indicate good luck and success. At the time of asking the question if bad objects like new earthen pot, logs, oil, charcoal, ashes, husk, stones, salt, police, eunuch, physically handicapped, patient, beggar, pregnant lady, snake, cat, pig, monkey, owl, processions related to death ceremony are all indicative of bad luck and failures. -His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar Rules for setting a good muhurta, Taara bala, chandra bala, panchaka rahitha: ‘Muhurtha’ means a moment. We live our lives moment by moment. When we receive good planetary energies, that moment is called ‘auspicious moment’ and if the planets deliver bad energies, then it is called ‘bad moment’. In Astrology, we prepare the birth chart of an individual based on the moment of his/her birth. muhurta or electional astrology This birth chart indicates whether the individual becomes successful or not in his life depending upon the type of planetary energies at that moment. In the same way, when we start a new venture or business, we can construct a chart for that moment. This chart represents whether that new venture or business will be successful or not. This chart which is prepared to know the outcome of a venture or event is called ‘Muhurtha chart’. Importance of Muhurtha If the Muhurtha chart shows good planetary energies, then that venture becomes a successful one. So it is better to select an auspicious moment (good Muhurtha) for starting any venture so that the chances of success will increase. This applies to all important events in life. For example, if a person gets married in a good Muhurtha, then his married life will be good. Some Astrologers are of the opinion that a beggar can become a king by starting his works in good Muhurthas. This is wrong. It happens only if the beggar has the planetary position to become a king in his birth chart. By following good Muhurtha, the beggar can become a

king in less time and with less effort. This is how Muhurtha helps. Let us take another example. In a native’s birth chart, there is an indication that he will not get children. But if a good Muhurtha is set for his marriage and nuptials, then the chances of getting children will increase and he may be blessed with children. Setting good Muhurthas for all important events of life in such a way that the person will become highly successful in all areas is called ‘Electional Astrology’. Indian Astrologers have done considerable research on Electional Astrology and came up with books like ‘Muhurtha Chinthamani’, ‘Muhurtha Marthanda’, ‘Muhurtha Darpana’, ‘Kaalamritha’, and ‘Uttara Kaalamritha’, etc. NOTE: To understand this topic, you should have knowledge regarding Panchanga elements like sign (rasi), lunar day (thithi), star (nakshatra), yoga and karana. To know about them, click here. General rules for setting a good Muhurtha setting a favorable star (Taara bala): Count from the birth star of a person to the star where Moon is located at the time of the Muhurtha and divide the number by 9, if divisible. The remainder represents the following 1 – Janma – represents danger to body. 2 – Sampath – indicates wealth and pros perity. 3 – Vipath – dangers and losses and accidents. 4 – Kshema – prosperity. 5 – Pratyak – obstacles and enmity. 6 – Sadhana – realization of ambitions through effort.

Karma 53

7 – Naidhan – dangers and death. 8 – Mitra – friendly and good. 9 – Parama Mitra – Very favorable. From the above list, the favorable numbers are 2, 4, 6, 8 and 9. For example, if a person’s birth star is Bharani. The person wants to join the new job on a day when the star is Visakha. Counting from Bharani to Visakha, we get the number 15. Divide this number by 9 and the remainder will be 6. This number represents ‘Sadhana’ which is favorable. Hence the person can join the new job on that day. Setting a favorable sign (Chandra bala): In the Muhurtha chart, the Moon should not occupy the 6th, 8th or 12th house from the person’s birth sign. For example, the person’s birth star is Bharani which falls in Aries sign. The person wants to start a new business on a day when the star is Visakha – 4th quarter. This part of the star falls in the sign Scorpio. Counting from the birth sign Aries to the Muhurtha sign Scorpio, we get 8th. This is inauspicious and hence that Muhurtha should be avoided by the person. Eliminating five types of bad energies (Panchaka rahitha): In general Muhurthas where the person wants

to join a job or attending an interview or going on a short journey, setting good ‘Taara bala’ and ‘Chanra bala’ is sufficient. But for important ceremonies like thread ceremony, marriage, nuptials, entry into a new house, etc, we should eliminate bad energies from the Muhurtha which is called ‘Panchaka rahita’. Count the number of lunar day (thithi), the number of the week day (1st is Sunday), the number of the constellation (1st is Aswini) and the number of the Ascendant (1st is Aries) of the Muhurtha. Add them together and divide the total by 9. See what the remainder represents: 1 – Mrityu Panchka – danger to life. 2 – Agni Panchaka – risk from fire. 4 – Raja Panchaka – risk from Government. 6 – Chora Panchaka – threat from thieves. 8 – Roga Panchaka – diseases. So, the above numbers should be eliminated. If the remainder is 0, 3, 5 or 7 then it is good. For example, if a person wants to start a new business on a day and time when the lunar day is 13th (Triyodasi), the constellation is Pubba, the rising sign is Leo, and the weekday is Monday. Calculating Panchaka, we get: Number of lunar day: 13 Number of constellation: 11 Number of week day: 2 Number of Ascendant: 5 Total: 31 Now dividing this number 31 by 9, we get 4 as remainder. This number 4 represents Raja Panchakam and hence the person will face a lot of troubles from the Government, Police, Taxes and Legal departments. Hence that Muhurtha is not auspicious for the person.

Karma 54

Other important yogas to be considered Panchanga Suddhi: Panchanga represents the five parts namely thithi (the lunar day), vaara (the week day), nakshatra (the constellation), yoga (the combination of Sun and Moon), karana (half of lunar day). These five parts should be good for any auspicious Muhurtha. This is called ‘Panchanga Suddhi’. In regard to lunar days, the 4th, 6th, 8th, 12th and 14th and full moon day and new moon day should be avoided. In regard to week days, Thursday and Friday are good for all works. It is better to avoid Tuesday and Saturday in most of the Muhurtas. In regard to the constellation, Bharani, Krittika and Aslesha should be avoided for all works. Auspicious constellations for any work are: Aswini, Rohini, Mrigasira, Pushyami (except for marriage), Makha, Uttara, Hasta, Chitta, Swathi, Anuradha, Moola, Uttarashadha, Dhanishta, Sravanam, Uttarabhadra and Revathi. Coming to yogas, out of 27 yogas the following should be avoided: Vishkambha, Vyaghatha, Parigha, Vyathipatha, Vydhriti, Ganda, Atiganda and Soola. In the available 11 karanas, we should avoid Bhadra and Nagavam. Surya sankramana: Once in a month, the Sun changes his sign and enters a new sign. A period of 6 hours and 24 minutes should be avoided before and after Sun’s entry into a new sign. Karthari dosha: The Ascendant in the Muhurtha chart should not be hemmed between malefic planets. Shashtashta Riphagatha Chandra dosha: In the Muhurtha chart, the Moon’s position from the Ascendant should not be at 6th, 8th and 12th houses. Udayasta Suddhi: The Ascendant and the seventh should be strong. For example, the Ascendant should be occupied by the lord of the Ascendant or the lord of the Ascendant should be exalted. In the same way, the seventh house should also be strong. It is very good if the Ascendant is occupied by Jupiter, Venus and Mercury.

Ashtama Lagna dosha: The Ascendant in the Muhurtha chart should not be 8th from the Ascendants of both the bride and bridegroom. For example, the bride and bridegroom’s Ascendants are Aries and Leo, the Muhurtha Ascendant should not be Scorpio or Pisces. Grahanotpatha dosha: The constellations in which the eclipses appear should be avoided in muhurtas. Ashtama suddhi: No planet should be located in the 8th house from the Ascendant of Muhurtha chart. Consideration of appropriate houses: For all Muhurthas, the Ascendant and its lord should be good. To set a good Muhurtha for construction of a house or for house warming ceremony, we should see that the 4th house and its lord should be good. There should not be any malefics in 4th house and its lord should be with benefics or in his own house or exaltation. Similarly, to set a good Muhurtha for marriage, the 7th house and its lord should be good. To set a good Muhurtha for starting a new business, the 7th house and 11th houses and corresponding planets should be good. According to Sage Bharadwaja, a fully flawless Muhurtha cannot be seen for years together. We should wait for such a Muhurtha for years together and hence it is advised to fix up a Muhurtha with less doshas (bad) and more gunas (good).

-His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar DREAMS ARE YOUR ASTRAL JOURNEYS! – Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar|Every one of us gets dreams. Some people say that their dreams came true and some claim that they have seen horrifying figures disturbing their mind entire night. Dreams are real mystery to every one since no body knows for certainty what they mean. Greeks believed that gods physically visited the dreamers to deliver divine messages. Later, they thought the soul of the dreamer would leave the physical body and roams around in different places which are seen in dreams. The same view is supported by Indians and Chinese. Egyptians were among the early civilizations to attempt interpretation of their dreams. The process of ‘dream incubation’ began in Egypt. When a person has troubles in the life and wants guidance from god, he used to sleep in a temple. He would get a dream during that night. When he wakes up, he takes the help of a priest to get his dream interpreted. Hippocrates, in his book on dreams wrote that the soul receives images during the day and it produces the images during the night, and hence we dream. Aristotle thought that dreams could be indicators of conditions within the body. He did not believe they were divinely inspired. He attributes the scenes in the dreams to the internal sensations in the human body. Romans had strong views on dreams. They believed dreams were messages from the gods.

Emperor Augustus ruled that anyone who had a dream about the country must proclaim it in the market place. In recent times, Sigmund Freud, in his book ‘The Interpretation of Dreams’ writes that the experiences and suppressed desires of a person during waking hours are stored in his subconscious mind. Since subconscious mind continues to function during sleep also, it presents the same experiences and desires in the form of symbols in the dreams. For example, if a person has high sexual desire, he sees rhythmical activities such as dance, riding, moving up and down the stairs etc., in his dreams which are symbols of sexual intercourse. Freud gave more importance for the sexual content of the dreams. Long slender objects like sticks, knives, flagpoles, water taps etc. represent male genitals and hollow objects like vessels, vases, caves, pits represent female genitals. Carl Jung connects dreams with different personality types which he calls ‘archetypes’. These archetypes appear as different persons or images in the dreams. For example, a man contains within him some feminine qualities which appear in the dream in the form of females. The innocent and pure heartedness of the man appears as a child in his dream. His teacher or father who helps him will appear as a ‘wise old man’ giving him guidance in the dream. The negative aspects like weaknesses and fears of the person will appear as frightening figures in the dreams. By understanding these archetypes, the dreamer can understand his personality better and can solve any disorders in his personality.

Alfred Adler does not believe dreams to bridge the subconscious and conscious minds. He takes dreams as problem-solving devices. When dreams are brought to the conscious and interpreted properly, they help us to understand our problems in waking life and offer solutions how to resolve those problems. Calvin Hall says that dreams should be considered to be a cognitive (to know) process. Hall argued that a dream was simply a thought or sequence of thoughts that occurred during sleep, and that dream images are visual representations of personal conceptions. Correct reason behind dreams: There are two reasons behind dreams. One reason is the psychological and physiological changes happening in our body. For example, if we are afraid of some issue, we get a dream where we are chased by some unknown figure. In the same way, if our urine bladder is full during night, we visualize toilets in our dreams. The other reason for dreams is our astral travel. When we go to sleep, the body starts relaxing and after sometime, the astral body slowly raises from the physical body. The astral body can be imagined to have exact shape like the physical body, but with fewer molecules and less dense. This astral body is inbuilt in the physical body. During night when the physical body sleeps, the astral body comes out and floats like a feather in the air.

Sometimes, astral bodies of great souls living at higher dimensions may communicate with our astral body. Generally, the astral body forgets what has happened during its trip since memory is attached to the physical brain. But sometimes, the scenes can be remembered Karma 57

-His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar Western tropical sayana Astrology

Western astrology, aspects of planets and Progressed horoscope Thousands of years ago, Astrology has taken its roots in Western Countries. Egyptians know Astrology 4000 years before Christ. They prepared ephemeris. At the same time, Chinese too studied Astrology. King Hoyangutee built a Planetarium in 2608 BC. Babylonians practiced Astrology a few centuries before Christ. Pythagoras (530 BC) propounded that the Earth is rotating on its own axis. Aristarchus (around 275 BC) claims that Earth revolves around the Sun. Aristilan and Timoris (320 - 260 BC) prepared an index of positions of several stars. Western astrology Ptolemy (120 - 180 AD) has written Sinatyxis, based on the writings of Hiporcus (150 BC). This book on Astrology and Astronomy has been given highest regard for centuries together. Arabs praised this book as ‘Alamygest’ means the great book. This book contains information on shape of Earth, orbit of Earth, planetary orbits along with a description of eclipses and milky way.

In 1209 AD Cambridge University was founded and Astrology was taught there from 1250. Copernicus (1473 – 1543 AD) developed helio-centric theory. He said that Earth is revolving around the Sun. Nostradamus (1503 – 1566 AD) gave his prophecies which are coming true even today. Tychobrahe (1546 – 1601 AD) and Kepler (1571 – 1630 AD) also contributed significantly to Astrology. Galileo built Telescope in 1609 and observed physically all the planets and constellations. Newton (1642 – 1727 AD) worked on Astronomy and Astrology and compiled a list of 2884 stars. Western Astrology is revived in recent times by Astrologers like Alan Leo, William Lilly, Raphael, Sapharial, Frances Sakoian and Louis Acker whose standard works are highly appreciated by all. Whatever the places and people are, Astrology is practiced and praised by everyone on the Earth. The fundamental facts like division of Zodiac and planets: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn and Venus remain same.

Karma 60

Western Astrology is always ready to accept any new ideas coming from astronomical observations. Thus in 1781 William Hershel discovered planet Uranus. Dr. Persival Lofvello discovered Neptune in 1846. Tambaugh discovered Pluto in 1930. Thus there are 3 more planets added. And Western Astrologers started updating their knowledge about the influence of these planets on human beings. A new planet Chiron is being added to the list.Uranus indicates sudden happenings, extremism, impulsive actions, high speed, explosives, electricity, television, computers etc. Neptune gives intuition, meditation, hidden affairs, reflections, colors, water resources, coffee, tea, photography, etc.Pluto represents destruction and regeneration, change of sex, modernization, waste material, unrest, life insurance, etc.Western Astrology gives more stress on the aspects of planets. The aspects are based on the distances of planets. Conjunction: Represents 0 degrees longitude between planets. Its effect is determined by the nature of planets involved.Opposition: 180 degrees. The effect is as above.Sextile: 60 degrees. It yields beneficial results for the native. Square: 90 degrees. It is an evil aspect. Trine: 120 degrees. It is a good aspect.

While the above are major aspects, we can have minor aspects which give minor impact.Semi Sextile: 30 degrees. Slightly beneficial.Semi Square: 45 degrees. Slightly bad.Sesquiquadrate: 135 degrees. Slightly bad.Quincunx: 150 degrees. Slightly evil. Progressed Horoscope is another great invention of Western astrologers. After a lot of research Astrologers found that when a person is born on a particular date, that day’s planetary positions will affect the first year of that person. The second year is influenced by second day’s planetary positions. Thus we can calculate progressed chart for any year of a person and predict his destiny in that year. Predictions are based on: the Natal Chart ( drawn for the birth date and time), the Progressed Chart (prepared for a particular year of prediction) and the Transit Chart (representing current transits of planets in that year). Aspects between the planets and their lordships in a chart are taken into account, and cross aspects between each chart are also observed and then the events are foretold. Colors and chakras, curing diseases using colors, chromotherapy Sun is the source of light and heat to sustain life on our planet ‘earth’. This is the reason Sun is treated as ‘God’ in ancient Greek and Hindu scriptures. Sunlight appears to be in gold color but it contains 7 different colors visible to us. They are Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red. These colors exist at different wavelengths starting from 380 nm to 740 nm. Saptaswaradhamaarudham prachandam kasyapaatmjam | Swethapadma dharam devam tham suryam pranamamyaham || -I bow before Sun God, who rides on a chariot of 7 horses (7 colors of Sunlight) and who appears in brightest light sitting in a white lotus (white light). Astrology is called ‘Jyothisha’ (related to light) and it studies the effects of celestial light on the human beings. So, Astrology gives prime importance to Sun who is the giver of light and the other planets which reflect that light. According to Einstein’s formula E = mc2, energy can be converted into mass. When mass vibrates at the speed of light, then it is again converted back into energy. We can understand mass and energy are nothing but two different sides of the same coin. Where

ever mass is there, it can also have some energy associated with it. Since we delve in our physical body which has some mass, we should understand that there is some energy also within us. If we take different colors, they will have different wavelengths associated with them. When wavelength is less, the energy will be more. For example Violet color has less wave length when compared to that of other colors like Yellow or Red. So, Violet color has more energy than that of other colors. Since colors are also nothing but energies, they definetely influence our body and mind. Effect of light on human beings 98% of Sunlight enters our body through our eyes and remaining 2% enters through our skin. We receive light during day time from Sun and the light emanated from Sun is reflected by Moon during night time. This is why Astrology relates Sun and Moon as causative planets for eyes and eyesight. There is a nerve that connects the eye with hypothalamus gland located in the brain. Upon receiving light from the eyes, this hypothalamus secretes a hormone called serotonin. During day time, serotonin production will be more as there is more light entering the eyes and stimulating the hypothalamus. Just a bit above the hypothalamus, almost in the middle of the brain, we got pineal gland. This is in the form of a pea nut of about 1 cm size. Serotonin which is produced in the

Karma 62

hypothalamus gets into pineal gland. Within the pineal gland, serotonin in the presence of Hydroxy-indole-O-Methyle Transferase (HIOMT) will produce an enzyme called ‘Melatonin’. More light will reduce the production of HIOMT and hence during day time less quantity of melatonin is produced. During night time, more melatonin will be produced. Serotonin and Melatonin control the functioning of our body. When more Serotonin is produced in our body, there would be diseases like migraine, headaches, insomnia, hypertensions, schizophrenia, mania, anxiety and impulsive acts of violence and aggression. These diseases can be eliminated by decreasing the Serotonin levels in our body by exposing to less light. When more Melatonin is produced, we get diseases like depression, Jet-lag and Seasonal affective disorder (SAD). So, these diseases can be controlled by exposing our body to more light or by spending more time in day light. This is the root principle in ‘Chromotherapy’ which is nothing but curing diseases with colors of light. This concept is used by ancient Egyptians, Indians and Chinese to heal various diseases. In modern times, scientists Klotsche and Dinshaw Ghadiali have proved practically that colors can be used to cure more than 120 different types of diseases.

gland. Thus the entire functioning of human body is controlled by colors. Research also confirmed that certain parts of the brain are not only light sensitive but actually respond differently to different wavelengths. Red color and Root chakra: Red is considered to be color of the fire. If a person is suffering from introversion, inner fear and laziness then Red color can be used to overcome these tendencies. Red will increase dynamic nature, courage, anger and quickness. Red can be used to cure anemia, asthma, diseases of the larynx, certain skin diseases and chronic coughs. Red is the color associated with Root chakra (Mooladhara chakra) which is located at the base of the spine. This chakra is associated with gonads. Gonads represent ovaries in females and testis in males. Gonads regulate the activities of the genital organs and reproductive potentials. Orange color and Sacral chakra: Since Orange color induces optimism, it can be used to treat mental illness, depressions, discontent and pessimism. Orange could be applied for the treatment of arteriosclerosis, cardio sclerosis, loss of appetite, anemia, anorexia and digestive system discomforts (e.g., flatulence, cramps).

Once the bright light enters the pineal gland, it gets dispersed to other endocrine glands in the body like a spark moving through the nerve fibers. This spark thus stimulates the glands which can be treated as energy centers in the body. These energy centers are also called ‘Chakras’. So, these chakras are responsive to bright light and the colors within it. In Indian yoga practices, each chakra is given a specific color thus emphasizing that the charka is highly responsive to that color. So, when a gland is exposed to a particular color, there will be changes in the hormones produced by that Karma 63

Sacral chakra (Swaadhistana chakra) is the second chakra located slightly above the Root chakra at pelvis area. Orange is the color related to Sacral chakra which is related to pancreas. The pancreas is also part of the body’s hormone-secreting system. The pancreas produces two important hormones, insulin and glucagon. They work together to maintain a steady level of glucose, or sugar, in the blood and to keep the body supplied with fuel to produce and maintain stores of energy. Yellow color and Solar plexus: Yellow color is applied when trying to combat glandular diseases and diseases of the lymphatic system, and to strengthen the nervous system. Yellow influences Solar plexus (Manipoora chakra) which is the third chakra located just above the belly button and represents adrenals. Adrenals produce hormones that influence or regulate salt and water balance in the body, the body’s response to stress, metabolism, the immune system, and sexual development and function. Green color and Heart chakra: Green improves the memory power and intelligence. Hence it is very affective for dull students. Green is applied for the treatment of bronchitis, whooping cough, inflammations of the joints, and swellings. In addition, green is thought to have a positive influence on the treatments of cysts, eye diseases and diabetes, generally promoting the secretion processes. Green color influences Heart chakra (Anaahata chakra) which is located at thymus. Thymus contains the power required for the growth and development of the embryo. Blue color and Throat chakra: Blue is claimed to profoundly calm and relax us. So, it is applied for rheumatism, arthritis, headaches and migraines, the pains

of stomach, muscle cramps, and even liver disorders. Throat chakra (Visudha chakra) is associated with thyroid gland. Its color is blue. The thyroid gland is present inside the throat. It plays a major role in maintaining mental stability and development of one’s nature. It helps kids and teens develop strong bones, and play a role in the development of the brain and nervous system in kids. Indigo color and Third eye: Indigo is believed to be a cooling color that develops psychic perception and intuition. It is applied in health treatments for eyes, ears, nose, and mental problems. It is also used in attempts to treat addiction. Indigo is also ascribed to have sedative and calming effects. The region between the eye brows is called ‘Third eye’ (Aajna chakra). This chakra is linked with the pituitary gland and its color is indigo. Brilliance or sharpness of intellect, enthusiasm, sentiments of love and affection, power of self-restraint are generated and controlled by this gland. It also regulates the growth of the body. This tiny gland governs the transitions associated with puberty, youth and reproductive potentials, too. Violet color and Crown chakra: Violet is the color of the emotions and is considered to be a meditative color. In color therapy and in particular in color acupuncture, violet is applied for treating the lymphatic system and the spleen. Violet is also used in attempts to soothe organs, relax muscles, and calm the nervous system. Crown chakra (Sahasraara chakra) is located at the top of the head and associated with pineal gland. The pineal gland is tiny like the tip of a pin - is located in the brain. This is associated with mental and spiritual development. This chakra is also regarded as the source of receiving divine light and knowledge. Contact with extraterrestrial

beings, ghosts and divine spirits is believed to take place through the crown chakra. Colors and Planets: Each color is associated with a planet as the energy of the planet is contained in that color. Thus, dark Red color is linked with Sun. Orange is for Moon. Yellow color represents Mars. Green is for Mercury. Blue is for Jupiter. Indigo is for Venus and Violet is for Saturn. Ultraviolet rays represent Rahu’s energy and Infrared rays represent Kethu’s energy. Please remember, these are cosmic colors in the Universe and are not the colors used in Astrology. Using colors: To use a particular color for our advantage, we can use opaque light bulb of that color. Suppose a person is suffering from rheumatism. He should keep a blue color bulb of 100W at a distance of around 10 to 12 inches from the knee joints and expose the joints with blue color continuously for 20 to 30 minutes. This should be done daily for 3 times. This will help him to slowly get rid of rheumatism. Similarly, if we want to improve the intellectual power of our children, we should use green color curtains in the children’s bed room and the walls should be painted in green. Using a green opaque bulb of

Zero watt as bed lamp will also help them to receive the full potential of green color during the entire sleep. Such children will fare very well in their education. People who are feeling loneliness and depression can use orange colored bed lamp to develop optimism. They should use orange color curtains and glasses in their rooms to develop cheerful attitude towards life. On the other hand, people with tensions, body pains and sleeplessness can use blue color bed lamps and blue color curtains to get relief. Similarly, people who do meditation, mantra recitation and such spiritual practices can use Violet color in the room to get the results quickly. According to “Sayana”, mercury is exalted in Aquarius that is 11th house.

-His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar Education and communication problems retrograde mercury Effects of Retrograde Mercury, education problems and remedies “Hello sir! How are you? Today the train is late by 45 minutes…, please come and sit here” Mallikharjun asked Giri. He continued, “Why are you looking worried, any problem?” Giri replied: “Yes, Mallikharjun, my son is not doing well in his studies… He is now in his 10th class and I doubt he may not pass this year”. Let us think. Why One student’s performance is improving and the other student’s slowly degrading? The reason is the planet Mercury, which is the key to mind, lord of 3rd, and 6th houses, which is Gemini and Virgo. 3rd house is for communication, thinking ability, personal ideas, logical thinking, Intellectuality, etc. And 6th house is for Service, health, practical work, methodologies, patience, clothing and dressing, food and taste of the food one likes.

- If there are any adverse aspects to mercury there is an educational brake (Fail /discontinue) in his study period. - Retrograde Mercury in birth chart makes the child unable to speak in childhood (after 3 or 5 years, he may speak based on the condition of the mercury) - Mercury becomes adverse with Saturn which results in hearing problems sometimes heavily impaired also. - If mercury is in 12th house and having adverse aspect, trouble in early education is indicated, They can’t achieve any thing in education with out brake. - If mercury is weak they cannot spell out what they are really thinking. - Lack of decision taking, shyness to talk in public, digestion problems. - Selfishness, liars, nervous weakness, poor dressing. - Abusing, mental blockade, etc by adverse mercury. - If mercury is well placed and having good aspects it makes journalists, editors, CA, Chemist, Mathematicians, Ambassadors, Cine dialog and story writers, Book authors, Teachers and persons having good communication skills. The house, sign, aspects to mercury, aspects of mercury will influence the above issues. In this article, we are not talking about retrograde effects of mercury in transit. This topic regards retrograde mercury in natal and progression charts. Retrograde Motion: Actually no planet will have retrograde motion. It is just an apparent phenomenon which happens when seen from earth; the planets appear to go back (except sun and moon). The stages are 1. Forward to stationary 2. Stationary to retrograde, 3. Retrograde to stationary 4. Stationary to forwarding. Mercury will retrograde thrice in a year, approximately 20 to 26 days total period. The stationary period is only few hours. The approximate motion of mercury is 2 ½ degrees per day.

DHANISHTA PANCHAMI (BLEMISH IN DEATH)

1.Whenever you go for a feast, avoid attending it on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. Also, these days should be avoided for taking first meal in your new friend’s house or in your neighbor’s house. The rule is, do not take food for the first time in anybody’s house on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

1. If death has occurred on the above said stars, then dosha (blemish) is formed due to those stars. Hence close the house until the blemish period is over. Eg: if somebody dies on the Nakshatra Rohini, then close the house or the room for 4 months. Otherwise, it affects the happiness of the family members. 2. Even if the death has occurred outside the house, the house where the dead person lived should be closed If the house could not be closed, pour some sesame oil or gingili oil in a bronze bowl and place it in the place where the dead person spent his life in the house and donate it to the needy person. BLEMISH IN FEAST

2.In case you want to arrange feast for your new friends, relatives or acquaintances on Sunday, ghee or ghee made products should be present in your feast. His Holiness Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar --

W

hat is Kalathra Dosha? What are the effects of Kalathra Dosha? What is Mangalya Dosha? What are the effects of Mangalya Dosha? What are the effects of planets in different house? What are the exceptions on dosha? The word Kalathra means spouse. Among the planets, Venus is the kalathra karaka (planet indicating wife). Among the 12 houses, 7th house is the kalthra sthana(house indicating spouse). Any malefic planet in 7th house creates kalathra dosha. Also, kalathra dosha is created if the 7th lord and venus is afflicted in the birth chart. Kalathra dosha delays the marriage and it is very hard to find a suitable partner for marriage. Even after the marriage, they lack good understanding and live a separated life. They also lack conjugal bliss which ultimately ends up in divorce. In some cases, the spouse suffers due to health problems and even death may occur in severe cases. Similarly, 8th house is called as mangalya sthana(house indicating marital tie). Malefic planets in 8th house create Mangalya dosham. Planet Jupiter is called as the mangalya karaka (planet indicating marital tie). If the 8th lord, Jupiter and 8th house is afflicted, then the person faces trouble in marital life due to mangalya dosham. Mangalya

dosha will spoil the marriage life either by separating husband and wife by sending someone away from home or else by divorce or by giving death to the husband. Common effects of kalathra dosha: 1.Delay in marriage 2.Unhappy marital life 3.Misunderstandings 4.Lack of conjugal bliss 5.Separation or divorce 6.Ill health to spouse 7.Premature death of spouse Mars Dosha: Mars in 7th or 8th house: Mars creates kalathra dosha in 7th house and Mangalya dosha in 8th house. This is also called as kuja dosha or Chevvai dosham. Much had been spoken about kuja dosha in the previous pages. If kalathra dosha is created by the fiery mars, better get your horoscope matched with a manglik person for a happy marital life. Manglik people are aggressive and angry prone. If mars is aspected by Jupiter, malefic effects of mars

Karma 71

will be reduced much and they can make a happy marital life.

Exceptions on Kalathra dosha and Mangalya dosha: -

Sani dasha: Saturn in 7th or 8th house: Saturn creates kalathra dosha in 7th house and Mangalya dosha in 8th house. This is also called as Sani dosha. Saturn dosha delays the marriage and marriage takes place only after the age of 30 in many cases unless otherwise a benefic planet aspects Saturn. Otherwise, the native marries a person who is very much older than the native. And this age difference would be more than eight. Or otherwise they may get married to a person who is darker in complexion or the one who is inferior by social status or wealth than the native. True affection from the heart will not be there between the couples.

1.If Jupiter aspects the 7th house or 8th house, then the dosha get cancelled.

Naga Dosha: Rahu/Ketu in 7th or 8th house: Rahu or ketu creates kalathra dosha in 7th house and Mangalya dosha in 8th house. This is also called as Naga dosha. Naga dosha creates troubles in choosing a right partner for marriage. They are mostly disappointed in the marriage life even if married early. Health of the spouse may not be good. No good relationship with In-laws. They’ll always be in a fear imagining that some unexpected event would occur. The spouse might speak lies or use deceiving words.

2.If the lord of the 7th or 8th house is strongly placed, then the dosha doesn’t harm much 3.If the planet creating dosha is placed on its own house or exaltation house, then there is no dosha. There are several planetary combinations that cancel the kalathra dosha and mangalya dosha which are beyond the scope of this page. It is always suggested to leave the calculation and confirmation part to an experienced astrologer. The only point that can be spoken here positively is that the Kalathra dosha or mangalya dosha do not affect the native if they marry a person who has similar type of dosha in their birth chart. The Malefic effects of Kalthra dosha and Mangalya dosha gets reduced to a greater extent in case of Inter-caste Marriages and Love Marriages. In case if a proper match could not be made, then they should at least perform suitable remedies and nullify the malefic effects of the planet to make a peaceful marital life. This 7 ½ Saturn period is further broken in to three phases based on the position of Saturn from the natal moon. In the 12th house it is called as viraya sani. Janma sani in the 1st house and kudumba sani or padha sani in the 2nd house. PHASE I: VIRAYA SANI If the Saturn enters the 12th house from the natal moon/ janma rasi, then the period of Saturn (sadesati) starts and the first 2 ½ year is called as viraya sani period. During this period one suffers a lot financially. Fruitless travels, roaming around aimlessly, Loss of prestige and bad name. Children lack concentration and face memory problems. They become poor in studies and start disobeying parents. Debt, loss of wealth, sleeplessness may also arise. Though financial position gets affected, they get money through some means for a better survival. Few people in india believe that, a person would be in the clutches of Saturn if the crow hits a person at his back or in his head. PHASE II: JANMA SANI The second 2 ½ year is called as janma sani period. One

Its period is for 2 ½ of years but gives more malefic effects than the sade-sati. If the Saturn transits the 4th house from natal moon it is called as artha-astamasani, as the name indicates, artha (half), astama(eight). This period gives half the malefic effects of astama-sani.

gets affected physically during this period. Mental worry, Indifferences with spouse, Problems in job/ business. De-promotion or problems with higher officials or transfer in job. Staying away from home leaving all the family members happens. PHASE III: PADHA SANI OR KUDUMBA SANI This is the last phase of sade-sati. Problems with family members, financial problems and legal problems in severe cases will happen during this period. Accident, fracture or injury in the leg might happen during Padha sani period. The family members in the family will be seriously affected if more than two person in a house has sade-sati period simultaneously. This rule does apply for astama-sani also. In such a case, To protect yourself from the malefic effects of Saturn, it is advisable that any one from the home stays away either in hostel or in a relative’s house. Though this suggestion looks strange, this has worked for many by experience. Other Phases of Saturn: Astama-sani, Arthastama-sani Beside the 12th, 1st and 2nd positions, Saturn gives more malefic effects similar to the sade-sati in 8th and 4th positions. If Saturn transits the 8th house from the natal moon(janma rasi/ moonsign) it is called as astama-sani.

Exceptions on malefic-effects Transit of Saturn such as 7 ½ Saturn period or astamasani doesn’t harm people born in Libra and Taurus moon signs because Saturn is the yogakaraka for Libra and Taurus. Transit of Saturn doesn’t harm Capricorn and Aquarius moon signs because Saturn rules Capricorn and Aquarius. Saturn doesn’t give much harm to people whenever it transits Libra (Saturn’s exaltation house) and Aquarius (Saturn’s Moola trikona house) Whenever Jupiter aspects Saturn in its transits, malefic effects of Saturn will be reduced Sade-sati doesn’t harm much if it transits the stars of venus (bharani, puram, pooradam) and the stars of its own (Pushya, Anuradha or U. Bhardrapada / poosam, anusham, uthratathi) Sade-sati and astama-sani doesn’t harm much if in sarva-ashtaga-varga, the 12th, 1st, 2nd and 8th houses from the natal moon has got more bindus (more than 28). If the dhasa bukthi is good, Saturn transits doesn’t harm much. But the native gets all the benefic effects of good dhasa-bukthi only after a long struggle or after a delay. 7 ½ Saturn period and astama sani gives more malefic effects to leo, cancer and scorpio and aries moon signs. But if they are born in any of the stars of venus or Saturn, it doesn’t harm much. For More Help call our Guru Maharaj Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar #@ 408 829 7780 in USA .
