DEAR SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD RECIPIENTS,
A
fter a two-year hiatus we are thrilled to have the opportunity to get together to honor your achievements and accomplishments in front of your family, coaches, athletic directors and others. While we were able to publish a journal during the past two years we all felt a void in not being able to share this special moment together, so the fact we are gathering inside the R W J B arnabas Health Arena is certainly a step forward. I have always felt strongly that competitive athletes like you should have mutual respect for your opponents because you know what it takes to be successful. While others are on the beach in the summer you were in the weight room, at the gym or playing in a summer league. When others go home after a day in school you hit the practice field/court/track/etc. and put in a couple of hours of work. You define what a true student-athlete is and while always striving to win understand that handling a loss is part of the process. Those involved in the selection for this award have been impressed with your ability to do that in the face of disappointment. You have also been cited as a positive role model for teammates, especially underclassmen, and a leader who can be counted on in good times and bad. You are the person your school is proud to honor as their representative and in many ways exceeds what you have accomplished as an athlete. You have set a standard for others to follow, one that is not based on statistics but intangibles like leadership, understanding, responsibility and fairness. This is also a good time to offer congratulations to those who helped get you where you are today. Your parents and families certainly top that list but don’t forget the coaches who helped mold you into successful young men and women. It not only takes a village to raise a child but one to develop a successful student-athlete so make sure you take the time to thank all of those in your village. Of course you also had to deal with having your sophomore and junior years impacted by a devastating pandemic, one we are still living with in many ways. You will tell your children one day about what it was like and while there was plenty of sorrow you made it through with flying colors which will help you navigate the challenges ahead. On behalf of all of us at the Shore Sports Network please accept my heartfelt congratulations on a job very well done and all the best in the future. Sincerely, Kevin Williams

SERVICE AWARD ack Levy
J J
ack Levy spent much of his lifetime combining two of his greatest passions, his love for education and devotion to athletes. He was an outstanding quarterback at Springfield College where he was named an AllTime Captain in 1974 and still holds program records for most singleseason attempts, completions and yards as well as the career record for most passing yards. Following his graduation he began his career in education and athletics at Long Branch High School in 1976. He spent 17 years there as a physical education teacher and coach and in 1986 was named football coach of the year after the Green Wave won an NJSIAA championship. Jack would earn his Master’s Degree at Monmouth College and then moved to Shore Regional as Physical Education Supervisor and Athletic Director, a position he would hold for 18 years until his retirement in 2010. He would oversee an athletic department that would win 115 divisional titles, 46 state sectional crowns and 21 state group championships during his tenure. Jack found incredible joy in encouraging athletes of all skill ranges to participate and strive for personal excellence. Advocating always for
inclusion, he played an integral part in the development of thousands of young men and women in sports and education. In retirement the 45-year resident of Long Branch loved traveling and watching sports (especially football) with his wife Debbie and enjoying time with their nine grandchildren. Sadly the Shore Conference lost a dear friend with the passing of Jack in March at the age of 68. His impact at both Long Branch and Shore is immeasurable and he left a lasting impression at both schools and in both communities. Jack was an avid reader of news and loved to learn new things and keep up with current events. He was a quiet and humble man who never sought recognition and had a passion for serving and helping others. In addition to his wife of 44 years Debbie, Jack is survived by his children CJ (42), Jackie (39) and Kelly (34) along with his nine precious grandchildren who called him “Pop-Pop.” The Shore Conference of Athletic Directors are proud to honor one of their own with this service award as Jack gave his life in the service of others.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD arren Wolf
W
Brick Twp. High School
W
e would need a book to try and sum up the life of Warren H. Wolf who died at the age of 92 on November 22, 2019. He will forever be known as one of the greatest high school football coaches in the nation, compiling a record of 361-122-11 over 52 seasons, all but one of them at Brick Township High School. He was simply the “face of the franchise” and helped put Shore Conference football on the map as his Green Dragon teams ventured to the northern part of the state to take on and beat schools that did not think highly of teams from around here. The list of accomplishments is a mile long, 42 winning seasons (8 undefeated), 31 division titles, six state sectional crowns. Many of them were memorable including Brick’s stunning win over heavily favored Camden in the first year of the NJSIAA Playoffs in 1974. However even more impressive than the win-loss record is what he meant to his players. Many of them who are now fathers and even grandfathers speak about Coach Wolf with a reverence that is like nothing you have ever heard. His words and character have
impacted their lives which is why as many as 10,000 mourners paid their final respects during his viewing which took place inside the auditorium at Brick Township High School. The following is taken directly from his obituary. “Of all his accomplishments, nothing was more important to Coach Wolf then reaching and influencing the young people in his charge. He was a master of motivation and set an impeccable example for his students and players for several generations.” Wolf was not just “Coach” Wolf during his life. He started out as a teacher and finished as Deputy Superintendent Wolf, he was Mayor Wolf, Freeholder Wolf, Assemblyman Wolf, and Councilman Wolf. He seemed to have unlimited energy and the ability to juggle so much responsibility at the same time. Shortly after his death Coach Wolf’s wife of 69 years, Margaret Anna passed away. They are survived by a son, Warren C. Wolf and wife Kristin, and a daughter, Donna Wolf.

OCEAN COUNTY ATHLETIC DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR ete Panuska

ete is Brick “royalty” having starred for the Green 2017 which he held until his recent retirement. While he will no longer be strolling the halls
Dragons on the football field and track, and after a near 29-year career in education retiring as the school’s athletic director on March 31st of this year.
of the school on Chambers Bridge Road there are still signs of what he meant to the green and white as his #21 football jersey is retired and can be seen in the school’s trophy awards case.
Panuska was an all-state running back for the legendary Warren Wolf and had numerous college offers before accepting a scholarship from the University of Tennessee. In his five seasons in Knoxville he played in five bowl games, set a Sun Bowl record for the longest kickoff return in history and graduated with a degree in Tourism, Food & Lodging. He worked in that industry for a short time before deciding that teaching and coaching was his true passion. Pete got his teaching degree and began working with special education students at Vet Middle School while coaching football and track.
Now retired from education he hopes to send more time with his wife Lori as the couple will celebrate their 27th anniversary this summer. They are the proud parents of Kylee (22) who earned a Bachelor of Science with a focus in Pre-Veterinary Medicine from the University of Delaware and Ryan (17) who will graduate from Brick Township High School next month before heading to the University of Tampa.
Pete would go on to obtain his Masters and then became Assistant Principal at Brick Memorial and later Brick High School before settling into the role of Athletic Director in

The 58-year old is not fully retired as he is working in the grounds department at the Bay Head Yacht Club. At least in this job he doesn’t have to worry about cancellations and bus schedules.
